You are tuned in to Steve Megatron on Altered

Geek. Hello and welcome to Altered Geek, I'm

your host Steve Megatron Phillips and in this

episode of the podcast I plan on talking about

quite a many things. There's been actually a

lot in the technology realm that I want to touch

on, a few things in the film industry as far

as sequel -itis and some Star Trek. So with only

five episodes away from ending the the round

200 number, and kind of deciding where the show's

going from there, well, that only remains to

be seen. I really don't have any idea what I'm

going to be doing when I hit episode 200, whether

it's a celebration episode, whether it's a live

episode. I'm honestly kind of leaning towards

doing a live Google Hangout for episode 200.

and I'm trying to nail down what kind of a day

I would do it. I couldn't do it during the day.

It would have to be late at night, Eastern Standard

Time, probably 10 p .m. Eastern Standard Time.

I know that's kind of late for a lot of people,

but if you're on the West Coast, it's not that

late at all. It's only 7 o 'clock. So I'll probably

do a Google Hangout and maybe have something

where people can interact with the show, have

a hashtag like AGU. F200 or HU200 and when I

do this what I'll probably do is have maybe Michael

Blanchard if not it'll just be myself or I might

try and get Mike Powers on it just kind of depends

on how things go but yeah it's kind of a monumental

episode it'll be the first podcast on Geekcast

radio to ever hit number 200 at least consistently

and in the numbering scheme. I know Geekcast

Radio has like about, I don't know, 50 or so

episodes that aren't even in the number scheme.

M -Wire is about the same boat. The Pull Bag

is about the same boat. So I mean, there's a

lot of differences. Mine is the only one to actually

consistently number it to 200. So... That'll

be kind of interesting and fun. I really want

to do more interactive, more conversational pieces,

more informative pieces. Not necessarily on geek

culture as a whole, but I just kind of want to

do things that branch out a little bit and kind

of make every episode a little bit different

and unique in its own right. So I heard somebody

on the radio talking yesterday about not really

understanding the DC films and the paying and

all that kind of stuff and they were conversing

and this was specifically about Batman and I

kind of have this knowledge of the series enough

that I've done enough research I've done enough

that I feel I can talk on this pretty well but

anyways this specific individual was was stating

that they don't really know what DC has you know

Wonder Woman was great and they really loved

Guardians of the Galaxy and I'm sitting here

going okay well Guardians is Marvel but it's

also that director style and yeah they kind of

picked the wrong pony to launch the DC universe

but they were kind of panning on the fact that

Affleck's Batman and Honestly, like I enjoy this

Batman more than Christian Bale's Batman. I still

don't like the the The tones that they use for

the the voice, but at least he's got more of

a serious bat voice when he's when he's Batman

compared to Christian Bale's You know, sorry

if I just blew your ear holes out, but it just

drives me nuts with that whole Batman. Plus,

he's not very ingenuitive on his own. He doesn't

do a lot of his own stuff. He's kind of just

a dude in a bat suit beating the crap out of

people. There's not really much detective work

going on. He has to have Lucius do everything

for him, which is kind of where I find the mistakes.

And they were like... They set up this trilogy

of bat films that are great and blah blah blah

blah and I just don't see why they don't continue

that. Well, one, it was kind of a standalone

thing. It was never meant to be a part of this

DC Extended Universe. While it does follow that

tone, it is not a part of that universe. They

kind of tied that up on its own plus changing

actors Midway kind of makes it feel like the

early like the 90s version of Batman where they

they continued the series, but they had a different

Actor portray him every time it it just doesn't

it doesn't work and they couldn't pay bail to

come back anyway They tried he didn't want to

come back and so they they also wanted to reboot

so they they did and That's kind of what they

were confused why they didn't try and go back

on that that Trilogy and it's a totally different

universe like it's it feels similar But it's

a totally different universe and I feel like

and everybody's panning Yes, Batman v Superman

was a terrible movie But as I said before the

best parts of the film had to do with Alfred

in Wonder Woman and Bruce Wayne If it was anything

else in that film, it was terrible It was really

bad, but we've got the Dark Knight Returns version

of Batman, in a sense, with some of the animated

series aspects added in. So I mean, it was a

very nice touch, but I look forward to seeing

what they're going to do in the actual Batman

film and in Justice League. and so like to me

to make the statement that I just don't understand

why they you know and trying to like back up

on the the Nolan verse it's not it's not even

a question they couldn't go back to that now

anyway like they they weren't even really planning

on continuing it it was meant to be new with

Superman as the focal point and that kind of

bombed out so they switched to Batman But yeah,

I mean I just it drove me nuts when I heard it

and I could not It was eating at me and it's

because I know the the pop culture surrounding

and I know a little bit of the the knowledge

of the research and They didn't really know what

it was about and I mean granted their specialties

elsewhere But it's still it was enough that it

drove me nuts about it. So Getting into a little

bit of I'm gonna go to Star Trek Beyond or not

Beyond. I don't know why I keep saying Beyond

It's it's not even that at this point It's Beyond

good, but it's yeah just suffice it to say Anyways,

I I have this this whole bit of information you

could say on discovery and while I'm gonna give

it its fair shake, and I'm going to try it out.

They finally came up with a release date, which

I was like, finally! Because it's been, they

meant for it to come out in January, at least

to the pilot, and then continue on with the rest

of the series, and granted they've added a couple

episodes and lengthened it, but I just didn't...

I couldn't understand why they kept kind of playing

around with it now and then they said May for

a release and now it's September 24th. And so

now I'm okay with that and I'm going to try it

out despite, you know, and I know that it doesn't

look like it fits with the original series and

it looks beyond it and it looks like it's got

that kind of the Abrams verse look to it. I'll

give it a shot on the fact that, you know, okay,

I'll give them the nod that, you know, the older

uniforms before Kirk, the original series, I'll

give them that nod with messing with that. I'll

give them the enhanced special effects because

it's... modern day and they can do a lot of the

same stuff with it now that they couldn't do

in the 60s. So I'll give them that too. So I

will sidestep my thoughts on the appearance in

Fitting with Continuity for now until I actually

see it. So they're supposed to have the first

and second episode on the CBS app. I can't remember

what it's called, but I'm not gonna be getting

it. I'm gonna wait. It's gonna probably kill

me when we get around to it because of the fact

that I want to watch it. It's more so I want

to watch it because it's a necessity and it's

Star Trek. It's not because I'm going in with

an entirely open mind. But it's being said anyways

with this series that Star Trek discovery the

executive producer Alex Kurtzman said that it

will blur the line between film and television

because of the fact that Because the line between

television and film is blurred now at this point

not just because of storytelling and visuals,

which is what he says. He says, we're doing Star

Trek right now. That's not different from what

we were doing in the movies. I think that's what

people expect when they pay for Netflix or HBO

or whatever they're going to pay for. That actually

makes sense as a storyteller, makes it in many

ways. You're not limited by, oh, we could never

really do that on television. Which, yeah, I

mean, everything's been innovated so much since

TNG, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise, the original series.

I mean, so I mean, I get it. I do. I more so

have a problem I think now with just the timeline

that they they chose to do because you've got

people that are gonna have to like it puts into

question who's gonna play the original series

cast when they have them show up because they're

gonna cameo at some point those that are still

alive or they're gonna do some kind of a virtual

mind screw with it And I'm not particularly fond

of the fact that, yeah, James Frame playing Sarek,

yeah, that's fine. It's a younger version of

Sarek, so it kind of works out before they cast

him in the original series anyway. So the hairy

mud's gonna be a little odd to see, but it depends

on how they dress him up. But yeah, I mean, I'll

give it a shot. I'm still a little bit irked

about it, but I'll give it a shot. But yeah,

924, and the difference in the ship from that

teaser that we got, and even from the previous

one we just got, like showing it from a year

ago to now, it actually looks like it could fit

better. It looks more like a solid design, I

should say. The colors are still a little bit

wonky for me, but... Yep, I'll give it a shot.

So anyways, Star Trek Online, before I go into

some other stuff, has done something really cool

and they've decided to make an update for the

enterprise. They have a new style or you could

say aesthetic they've been renovating the designs

for a lot of the ships to try and make them show

accurate for years just because you know different

modelers do different things so anyways they

had this kind of a silvery metal like grunge

metal look to like the Constitution refit or

the Reliant it was very gray dark and metal looking

Didn't look like the the movies or the shows

and yes gradually everything got more gray and

silver But during those those beginning films

they were very white At least during the first

three and So they've come up with a new a new

skin more or less. They've revamped them They're

reliant because they they resold it as a t6 ship,

which is like top of the line like Very you got

to pay for it. It sucks, but you do So they redid

it and made it look like the Reliant from Star

Trek 2. And the Miranda, Soyuz class type stuff.

So they used the same aesthetic and redid the

Constitution refit. So now it's got that white

look instead of the grunge metal look. And the

deflector doesn't have some weird square in it.

I'm not... Thrilled about the nacelles because

they they took out the blue lighting in them

and they're just black like in the spot where

they would light up But I don't know if they

actually light up in the game, but they're doing

an update to the game coming soon where The Constitution

refit will finally get that and I'm hoping they

come up with a t6 Constitution refit in the game

because if they do I'm gonna be all over that

because one it'll be infinitely cheaper than

the the Kelvin Enterprise which I've been trying

to get my hands on since I started playing the

game. It's been driving me nuts because I've

been seeing that. Well, now there's a new thing

that drives me nuts. Apparently, at a convention

a couple years ago, they had a promo code where

you could get the entire original series cast

holograms, which would be your crew members.

Instead of having to necessarily buy or have

specific crew members, you would have these...

Holograms of the original series cast. So it

was the the TOS Holographic bridge crew. So you

got Yeoman Rand, you got Uhura Sulu, Chekov,

McCoy, Spock, Kirk, or not Kirk, Scotty, Spock,

I think I said Spock, McCoy. Anyways, you got

all of them, but you didn't get Kirk. That's

the weirdest thing. Like, that's the weirdest

thing to me in this game is like you've seen

everyone else's faces and they look... spot on

with their character, but you never see Kirk.

Like you see his character one time and he's

face down because he got stabbed in a certain

part of the storyline and you stabilize him,

but you never see the face. You never see him

talk to you. It's only spot reporting from the

Enterprise. And you never see, like even in the

holographic bridge crew, there's no Kirk. So

I actually like, because I didn't, I saw somebody

with this like a while ago. It was like a month

ago. like two months ago. So I started creating

my bridge crew under this current character I'm

playing to match the original series. And I stared

at the pictures long enough that I was able to

resemble them for the most part. Sulu I have

pretty close, it's not an exact. Spock I have

pretty close. McCoy I have almost spot on. Scotty

is kind of close. I ended up going for their

film versions of themselves, their Star Trek

6 edition of their characters because it was

easier to manipulate and kind of interpolate

the looks a little bit better. So at least if

they looked off, they didn't look too bad because

it looked like their film version. So I had the

RaffaCon uniforms on, all of them and everything,

but... For some reason, Cryptic Studios has been

going around and emailing random people with

no rhyme or reason and giving them promo codes

for the original series Bridge Crew. And I don't

know what the stipulations are, but I'd really

like to know, or if anybody has a spare one,

I would love to get my hands on this promo code

for the original series Bridge Crew, because

I would love to... Because I already got the

bridge. I had the Odyssey class Starship right

now. Although I prefer the Constitution refit.

But it just doesn't allow enough weaponry or

a lot of modules that you can put into it. So

I had to upgrade to that because it was a stronger

ship. But I want to fly around in the Constitution

refit. That's my favorite design from Star Trek.

I even have one on my desk of the Enterprise

A. that Hot Wheels came out with a number of

years ago. And it's the only ship that I really,

really, really, really, really, really like enough

to get models. And I even have the Micro Machines

1 from a few years back when they had the, it

was like 20 years ago, they had the 30 pack of

all the Micro Machines Starships. And it was

great. It didn't even look so accurate. This

one looks so accurate that I have on my desk.

But yeah, so I mean, I'm... I'm hoping that I

get my hands on this too, but I bought the the

bridge for the Enterprise A so that I could have

one. I liked the high -tech bridge from the Odyssey

because it's a lot of virtual consoles and a

lot of space and a lot of stuff on it. It's pretty

cool. It's like an advanced enterprise E in a

sense or D. It's kind of if you mix the two you'd

have that but I really wanted the Enterprise

A, and so when I took some screenshots of the

bridge, which I'll probably post on this post

later, some of the awesome stuff in there, it's

had me pretty enthused when I've been playing.

So I think I'm going to move on from that. There

was a bit of Star Wars headache. I guess I'll

go after this particular part. Star Wars The

Last Jedi trailer is going to be coming, a new

one. apparently they're working on coming out

with one. There's a listing in the British Board

of Film Classification website shows a trailer

B for episode 8, which was classified today earning

a PG certificate, so the film's gonna be PG,

which is cool. And it lists a running time of

91 seconds, making it shorter than the first

teaser. It says it's not clear, however, when

the trailer will be released. It might be safe

to assume that the big reveal will come at Disney's

D23 convention or at SDCC. But yeah, everybody's

going to be excited. I'm going to be seeing that

in theater. Not sure the same week, but it'll

probably be following that. But anyways, the

bad news is Han Solo spinoff, Lorde and Miller

fired after clashing with Kathleen Kennedy and...

Yeah, so apparently there was creative differences.

They wanted to do more of a comedic thing and

Kathleen Kennedy and Lawrence Kasdan disapproved

of the infusion of tongue -in -cheek stuff that

Phil Lord and Chris Miller are kind of good at

with 21 Jump Street and Lego Movie. Why they

chose these guys in the first place if they didn't

like... See, I wonder why I think they chose

him because they were hot directors I don't think

they chose him because they really wanted the

tongue -in -cheek aspect But that's what they

were going for and they wanted more of a western

heist type of movie out of it so actually they're

gonna be hiring another director to come in and

You want to interact with the show? You can get

ahold of us in the following ways. Probably gonna

be a mess. I'm afraid to say, because they weren't

given the lead way to do a website on altergeek

.com. You can also get on the episode code on

altergeek .com and make your comments there.

You can of course get ahold of us on social media

at Facebook at altergeek or on Twitter at altergeek.

And of course you can find the show on the following

locations. It's almost like as bad to me as like

Google Play because it's kind of like dipping

his hand in talk radio as well as altergeek .com.

And now, back to the show. sold the company.

So, I guess we'll see how it goes. I mean, only

time will tell. So, also, Wrath of Khan's Nicholas

Meyer is working on another Star Trek project.

Doesn't say what, but he wrote and directed Star

Trek Wrath of Khan and Undiscovered Country,

and he co -wrote Star Trek IV. And he's also

one of the producers on Star Trek Discovery,

so as a writer and consulting producer. So, I

mean, I really hope that the writing's strong.

I wonder if he's gonna be doing the next film,

which would be interesting if they're doing that

one with Kirk's dad in it, or if they're gonna

do something... I would love to see him kind

of take on a post -Star Trek... Six like post

Enterprise B era and kind of go between Enterprise

B and C Because that's a vastly unexplored region

of Star Trek history, and I would love nothing

more than to see that But uh yeah, there's there's

zero official word on what he's he's doing But

uh Yeah, they're saying that he's gonna be a

writer and producer and maybe even director of

whatever it is It's not a book documentary or

video game. Obviously, he's not gonna, you know

do that so I would I would love to see what this

guy does because his Stuff was generally some

of the best Star Trek we got in the films and

it kind of revitalized the characters Evolution

and it still kept them who they were without

making it forced. So, yeah, I mean, I'll kinda

wait and see how that turns out. So, I guess

we should move into some tech. So, we'll be right

back after this quick break. Do you want to interact

with the show? Well, you can get a hold of us

in the following ways. You can email us feedback

at alteredgeek .com or you can fill out the form

on the website on alteredgeek .com. You can also

get on the episode post on alteredgeek .com and

make your comments there. You can of course get

a hold of us on the social media, Facebook at

AlteredGeek or on Twitter at AlteredGeek. And

of course, you can find the show on the following

locations. You can get it on iTunes, on Google

Play, on Stitcher, and on TuneIn, Blog Talk Radio,

as well as AlteredGeek .com. And now, back to

the show. And we're back. So last episode we

kind of talked about the tech that is Star Trek.

And I had to cut it short, which was unfortunate,

but a lot of the tech that we've developed, just

go watch Making Star Trek. That documentary actually

spells out a lot of the stuff that they've developed

that came from Star Trek ideas. So if you want

to find out more about that, just look up that

documentary, try and find it. I think it was

done by A &E or the History Channel or something

in that realm, but it was a Smithsonian put together

thing, I believe. So yeah, there's been quite

a few new concepts and things that have come

out that have kind of interested me. In a past

episode I talked about how hotels don't let you

watch your own content. Well, that may be about

to change. More hotels will let you watch your

own Netflix coming soon. Apparently, StayCast,

a Google Chromecast -powered service for hotels,

could fulfill the dream of being able to watch

whatever you want as a guest. AT &T has announced

that hotels can get DirecTV HD systems preloaded

with StayCast. Which means that you download

the the Hotel Cast app for iOS and Android and

connect to the hotel's Wi -Fi to start streaming

your own Netflix, Hulu, and other Cast enabled

apps. Because it will use your your phone basically

as the remote to connect it. The service launched

last year actually and the the service has only

recently become more available thanks to companies

various partnerships. Back in April apparently

hotel chain tightened height. Hyatt revealed

that Stakehouse now comes integrated with the

world of Hyatt mobile app. And 14 of their locations

actually off right now, but with more to come.

That's actually awesome because that was what

I brought my portable PC for in the first place.

I mean, it was partially to look stuff up on

the internet, but it was also because... I don't

like the TV that they have generally, like the

content, and I don't like not being able to just

watch what I want to watch. So having the ability

to watch Netflix, even at the hotel, is awesome

for me. So there's another article that says,

Vulcan may not be real, but Spock's home system

is. So one star system that really exists in

our Milky Way galaxy is... Vulcan, which is fictional.

The star system it belongs to, Forti Iridinae,

is very real. It's located 16 .5 light years

away from the Earth and its primary star can

be spotted with the naked eye. It says they've

discovered it anyway. It's the most massive...

star in that system is the 40 radonite A dwarf

star. It is a mythical Vulcan Sun. The other

two are a pair orbiting each other at a distance.

The binary pair contains a red dwarf and a white

dwarf star. So yeah, it would basically kind

of reinforce that concept of how the planet would

look with that type of Sun. So it's... Kind of

cool how they found something like that. So China

successfully sends pairs of entangled photons

from space. For the first time, China has successfully

sent pairs of entangled photons from a satellite

in orbit to three ground stations in the country,

each separated by more than 1 ,200 kilometers,

any major breakthrough that opens up prospects

for practical quantum communications. Hmm, subspace

communications you say? It's the interest in

distributing entangled particles over increasingly

long distances and studying the behavior of entanglement

under extreme conditions is the quantum physics.

So this satellite -based technology opens up

bright prospects for both practical and quantum

communications, which that's actually kind of

neat, because like I said it's... It's pretty

crazy the kind of stuff they're working on. But

yeah, the possibilities for this for communication

purposes and for another spectrum to kind of

play with is always an interesting thing. Who

cares who made it? The point is the technology

is being created. So, yeah, we could see a revolution

in our communication access and how it works

in the future with this. But it sounds very much

like subspace communications like Star Trek to

me when I hear it talked about. So SoundCloud,

which is a big podcasting resource or music resource,

depending on what you use it for, It's going

through some issues, apparently. It says a Hacker

News site posted that they've had some funding

issues and some salary issues. It sounds troubling

for them, like they may need more money. They

don't have. it'll remain to be seen what happens

to that service. So it's one that I've kind of

played with. I've put Altered Geek on SoundCloud

as well, like I'll do a couple episodes and then

when I run out of time, I'll delete the previous

older ones to make room for the new ones. And

it's not a service I really like, but I thought

I would try it out. I like blog talk radio. I

like Omni. Which, if I get a Ford Omni for all

of the podcasts here, I would, because it's such

a nice service. It's actually one of the best

ones I've seen. But, yeah, Blog Talk Radio does

actually really well with a lot of the content,

and they house all of our stuff, and there's

editors, and there's actually a call -in system.

Which, again, I may try and do that sometime.

Either that or Google Hangout, I'm not really

sure which yet. But the ideas are there. So Amazon

is going to buy Whole Foods Market for $13 .7

billion, expanding its physical retail footprint.

Kind of interesting, actually, because they...

It's like they're trying to get more footholds

everywhere. I mean, they've already got their

Amazon Go stores. They've got, I imagine, fresh

pickup sites. It's kind of interesting because

now they're going to offer the best natural and

organic foods and make it healthy and everything

else for people. So I mean, I'll kind of follow

this because it's odd that... Companies such

as this would buy something like that, but I

guess you know eventually it's gonna be all corporate

world anyway, so Companies buying up smaller

companies only kind of makes sense at this point

but uh Yeah, I guess we could see maybe we'll

start seeing shipping of food Probably expensive,

but we'll see it probably But yeah, that's that's

kind of an odd thing but Verizon also has done

a merger. They've closed a 4 .5 billion acquisition

of Yahoo and everything Yahoo owns, which it

looks like is... I mean they've got... Does Yahoo

own TechCrunch and AOL and Engadget? Or maybe

is that just Verizon what they own? I'm not sure.

But anyways, it's that's listed AOL. I know is

owned by Yahoo and It's They're definitely sneaking

into that realm of like Google and in trying

to combat everything AOL and Yahoo have kind

of been on the out anyway for the better part

of 10 to 10 15 years So it's not surprising that

they're continuously buying getting bought out.

I'm surprised. They're actually still around

because they're kind of useless at this point.

I don't even know anybody that uses Yahoo for

anything other than mail. Same thing with AOL.

So, I don't know, what do you guys think about

that? That's just kind of odd to me. So, I mentioned

that they pre -did the tri -quarter. Apple is

apparently going to make a major podcast update

with their own kind of new extensions to kind

of track your podcasts. They're coming out with

this new analytics system for Apple podcasts.

And this new podcast feed spec will have better

title handling and better analytics so I would

be actually kind of curious to see what they

do in that because obviously podcaster and working

in the podcasting industry it's kind of one of

those things I like to keep track of and to hear

that they're coming out with their own analytics

to see what you know to let podcast creators

and advertisers see what people actually listen

to or where they turn it off, where they fast

forward, what the whole process is. But they've

shown clips on recode .net of the aspect of the

whole process through their iTunes Connect podcast

analytics. It's definitely something I want to

check out when it becomes readily available to

everyone. I have always wondered why they don't

have that in their system, why it's taken them

this long. So Nvidia is working at a Project

Holodeck, the next Star Trek -inspired invention.

And they're trying to bring it to life. It says

that they... from the communicator -inspiring

cell phone to the pad -inspiring the tablet.

Star Trek's always about innovating. NVIDIA's

holodeck isn't a room you walk into, but a virtual

space. The virtual holodeck allows people from

all over the world to come together to experience

this new virtual reality space. And they've kind

of showed it off with a video, but... You know,

they're taking us closer to it. Microsoft's been

working on one for years. I'm hoping that they

eventually go the route of having it as a physical

room. But, you know, who knows? So, yeah. That's

about most of the tech that I have, besides the

fact that Western Digital owns Sandisk now, too.

They acquired Sandisk. Like, it's just... colossal,

they bought them for 19 billion, it's just insane

the amount of like companies getting swallowed

up by other companies. But Western Digital's

next -gen SSDs add even more speed and capacity

because it's the first to use 64 layer 3D NAND

tech, which means we'll have cheaper, faster,

lower power, higher performance capacities coming

in the future. And they show them off like they're

the identical the Western Digital to the Sandisk.

Although the Western Digital I think gets the

higher bump not only for brand but because of

feature wise. I've always been a fan of Western

Digital and Sandisk so it's kind of a match made

in heaven there for me with the tech and with

the hard drives and the flash storage. But yeah,

there it says the larger capacity devices can

read at 550 MB a second and write 560 MB a second

and the 256 Yeah, because they're gonna start

having 256 500 gigabyte 1 terabyte 2 terabyte

SSDs because their new setup has Fewer chips

than rival SSDs. So it'll drive the price down

And it says, most importantly, is all products

have a mean time to failure of 1 .75 million

hours, which I have no idea what that would actually

calculate to. I'm gonna try and just Google this

real quick. So you're talking about 72 ,916 days.

So let's try that out. So let's change the...

I'm gonna change it to years. So it's 199 years.

So they say it will basically never fail as long

as you have it. So we'll see. I'm sure they'll

fail, but the concept of this is actually really

interesting. Sorry, I had to do that live figuring

it out. It's... I love how they tell you the

hours because they're like exponentially higher

than anything you'll ever think of. Whereas if

they just told you like the amount of days or

years, you would be like, oh, okay. So basically

it's going to outlive me. Or it's the concept

anyway. So I would love to get my hands on a

bigger SSD. I have 120 gig SSD in my computer

and it's almost full. It's what I use my computer

like I operate on it I have 21 gigs left on it

and I have a 500 gig that has 50 megs left here

gigs left on it so It's not something I'm I Would

like to expand it. I don't have this space inside

my tower, but Intel reveals its new 18 core 36

thread extreme core high nine processor at Computex

some of this stuff's a little bit older. It's

like from end of May, beginning of June, but

yeah, it's like two grand for this chip, but

it's supposed to be pretty sick. As far as the

speeds and capacity, I would love to upgrade

my processor, but I really don't have a need

to. I could use more memory, but anyways. So

I think that about cuts it out on the tech, so

we'll be back after this And we're back so I

figured with the returning of the show from break

that I Would try to cover some other stuff I

kind of mentioned some of the the superhero stuff,

which I will be covering I will also be covering

another update to Star Trek Online real quick.

So in the time span it took me to record this

because I had to stop and come back due to not

feeling all that well. They did release the 23rd

century Enterprise like Constitution class skin

update. and they did decide to come out with

a tier 6 ship like I was wanting. Now the unfortunate

part is, for whatever reason, whether it's CBS

or whether it's the game, this as well as the

Emperor Jay, the temporal dreadnought, are in

these things called R &D promotion packs. It's

like promotion, R &D, you know, and then it's

got... a picture of the ship that you may win.

So what happens is there's a probability, it's

very much a lottery system, which is total BS.

And I tried my hand at it for a little bit. And

you unfortunately have to buy these R &D packs.

Or you can get them on the exchange on the game,

which... They cost an astronomical amount which

they've gone down by half since yesterday when

they first came out they were like 30 40 million

Credits and they've since dropped to 15 to 22

credits 22 million credits Now the people that

have won them through these boxes, it's ridiculous

like because it's it's almost taunting because

I've never won a ship. I've never won anything

in this game besides materials for R &D related

material. And you can get some decent stuff that

you can sell for a lot on the market, and I've

done that. But the unfortunate part is because

these stupid R &D boxes are lottery sets, you

either win 10 Lobby, which allow you to buy other

stuff. It's an entirely different payment system.

You have keys, which unlock boxes, which these

R &D packs don't have, but you get to buy these

R &D packs separately. And so, they have so many

different money systems. They have the C store,

they have lobby credit crystals, they have dilithium,

they have EC, they have fleet credits. There's

a bunch of different currencies in this game.

Anyways, you have to buy Zen to get these R &D

packs, and it shows the ship that you would win

in the corner of the box. And I was like, okay,

well, somebody told me about this, and I was

like, that's pretty nice to know. So at least

if I'm on the exchange, I have that capability

if I can ever... Get enough EC built up now people

that have won them are selling them for 1 .2

billion credits in game which is Your credit

limit is 2 billion. So I The highest I've ever

gotten is 22 million and that's because I've

sold all this crap And then I bought a enterprise

jrd pack and I didn't even get that so it kind

of Ticked me off a little bit And I've opened

eight of these boxes for the Enterprise 1701

Constitution class because the difference between

the entry level one and the tier six is I get

instead of two onboard weapons for aft and four,

I get five and three. I can also store more crew

members. I can also, there's a lot more benefits

to having that compared to the earlier one and

I actually love this ship design. So if anybody

wants to donate one to me, I would be eternally

grateful I would give you free advertising on

the website. I don't care. It's I am eternally

grateful if you can do that It's Phillips at

Steve Megatron on the game That's that's my user

handle on there. So if you want to message me

So anyways the The the thing I've opened them

up not gotten one little frustrating little irritating

And then I go to find out that, you know, besides

the fact I knew it was a lottery system, but

about every other minute somebody's opening up

one and then it says 23rd century temporal cruiser

unlocked, or something to that degree, or 23rd

century tier 6 ship, you know, unlocked. And

it's just infuriating to watch as it comes on,

so I had to disable the notification. it comes

up Temporal Light Cruiser T6, Constitution class,

and I just, oh, it's so irritating. And then

I found out that the Bridge Crew thing was like

an exclusive for conventions, which I knew that.

But there was no real, some people are just randomly

getting it in their email at this point, which

it's kind of frustrating me on that too. So then

I've had a couple issues with the game where

I've had random pop -ups because I started as

a 23rd century character and Essentially the

answer I got when I emailed support about it

Which was a little irritating Is that the pop

-up I'm receiving from the temporal agent is

normal and shouldn't affect gameplay negatively

and then I have some missions that are locked

and They've more or less said that, you know,

do any prerequisite missions, and it's like,

I did it. It's just not wanting to open up, so.

So yeah, there really wasn't any answer from

support, so it kind of just irritated me a little

bit. I still have hope that eventually I may

get one, but that I'm not gonna dump any money

into it anymore. I tried for the Kelvin 1701

for the longest time, couldn't get that. I believe

that you can buy that on the market. I'm not

entirely sure though. But I really love the Refit

Constitution class from the actual prime timeline.

So again, if anybody wants to donate one to me,

I'd be eternally grateful. So moving on from

that diatribe, I just couldn't get past. So getting

into TV shows Supernatural season 13 will have

a backdoor pilot to a spinoff series called wayward

sisters Because you know they play this the wayward

son song in the show And so Supernatural you

know kind of joke that You know they never make

it past season 10 then they did and then now

it's on 13 And so they've tried doing a spinoff

before It flopped because nobody cared about

the characters and nobody heard of them before

And I mean I never even got a pilot it was so

Atrociously bad because it was supposed to be

a spinoff from in a particular episode so wayward

sisters is supposed to be a show that's focusing

on sheriff Jodie Mills played by Kim Rhodes as

well as the adopted family of girls orphaned

by supernatural causes So like Claire Novak Alex

Jones and then sheriff Donna Hanscom Which you

know and then introducing new ones So they're

gonna have an episode in the 13th season that

will focus on these characters and serve as a

backdoor pilot Which I could see it possibly

going on in happening Just for the fact that

these characters have popped up Multiple times

in the show and they've always been interesting

when they do show up However I don't know if

People will really watch because you know it

says That the the actors you know may or may

not keep going with this but um It may get the

same notice. It's kind of hard to say I Just

I don't know like I don't see it getting bigger

Than what's already been fought in the regular

supernatural It's just I don't know I I like

the show But I've kind of stepped away from it

a little bit because it just kind of bothers

me at this point that they've they've tried to

Do so much with it that it's it's getting old

So cars three originally included cameos by two

versions of the Batmobile They were supposed

to be at some kind of a party in LA Which I could

admit would actually be pretty cool to see in

the show, but they took it out in an earlier

rendition of the script. I was supposed to be...

Lightning McQueen went to a Hollywood Hills party

and it was full of actors, and so we had the

old 66 Batmobile and the new one talking to each

other at a party. Well, I'm assuming 66 because

this is an old Batmobile and the new one. So,

yeah, that would have been pretty awesome to

see, but they kind of bombed that one out. So

Saw 8, if anybody saw the first seven which I

used to watch that kind of stuff I don't really

watch it anymore because of just I just don't

watch horror movies anymore. So I follow it only

for the pure speculation of what the storyline

has in store and I might read the Wikipedia on

it of the the synopsis, but I'm not actually

gonna see the movie. They've rebranded the title

instead of Saw 8 or Saw Legacy. It's gonna be

called Jigsaw. which is the featured character

from the Tobin Bell character that he plays and

the doll that's in all of it and they're going

to have the Laura van der Voort from Smallville

Supergirl in the movie as well so should be interesting

to see how that plays out or hear how it plays

out. Kind of interested in the new Blade Runner

to be honest just because Harrison Ford seems

to be doing this like reprisal role of everything

He's done in the past and I'm kind of digging

it Especially when it's something like Star Wars

or that where he comes back 30 years now mind

you I have not seen the first Blade Runner, but

I am interested in watching it So what I'll probably

do is wait till the second one hits DVD or blu

-ray or Netflix or whatever medium and then I

will do them back -to -back, kind of like I did

with Tron, so it should be interesting on that

as well. Jurassic World 2 got a title called

Fallen Kingdom, and it says, Life Finds a Way,

because obviously, Jeff Goldblum's Dr. Ian Malcolm

will be back in this as well, so I love the tagline,

Life Finds a Way. The Flash Season 4. Reported

villain is possibly the thinker. I have no idea

who this is, but I'm game. So yeah, there's been

a lot of other stuff. Patty Jenkins signed Wonder

Woman 2, which Wonder Woman was actually really

good and interesting. And I like Chris Pine anyway,

so it's kind of a win -win there. And then DC

has got a new intro for their movies, which I

believe Marvel did the same thing. Tom Holland

running his mouth, who's playing Spider -Man,

saying he wants to play Batman and James Bond.

Never happened on either until he's like old.

Team Titan's series begins shooting this fall,

reportedly. Justice League reportedly begins

significant reshoots now that I kind of skipped

over it a few weeks ago just because I was expecting

to converse about it at the time with somebody

else and it didn't quite happen but Zack Snyder

had the death of his daughter and so he had to

bail and then they have Joss Whedon coming in

to finish the film and to do some reshoots and

whatnot and get the film up to snuff, as you

would say. Ron Howard is to direct Han Solo's

movie for Disney Lucasfilm, which is interesting

because he's an Academy Award winner. Yeah, I'm

kind of good with that. Should be interesting

what kind of reshoots and what significant changes

are made we'll probably get the the almost Richard

Donner type of setup with You know like Superman

2 where you've got the two different cuts, so

they might be that although with Star Wars probably

not Because they weren't thrilled with the original

So yeah, I guess I guess we'll see what happens.

I'm kind of done with that because I like him

Yeah, they're saying that it can be extensive

Josh brawling Thanos or Jonah hex is now playing

cable in the Deadpool sequel which I'm totally

good with he looks like he fits the role anyway

with Boss logic did a graphic for a couple of

these sites. I love it when they they do those

Justice League had a score change, which is awesome

because they had, what was it? Snyder had been

working with Antonius Tom Holkenborg, aka Junkie

XL, on the movie. He scored Dawn of Justice and

counts movies like Mad Max and Deadpool among

his credits, is now moving on to Tomb Raider

according to sources. and like Hans Zimmer did

the Nolan trilogy and I believe Man of Steel

and then Junkie was doing Dawn of Justice which

I didn't really dig any of the soundtrack and

there was really nothing memorable from that

or from Hans Zimmer's run. The one thing that

I'm glad about is they chose Danny Elfman to

set up the Justice League hopefully with him

joining, and Whedon on there, and the success

of Wonder Woman. Hopefully this film gives us,

in a sense, that vibe that we got from the Justice

League, Justice League Unlimited cartoons. Obviously

just more grown up in real life fashion. And

it's kind of interesting that they chose Danny

Elfman, who's coming in, you know, last round

to score it, which he's done before. But he's

also significantly known for doing Spider -Man

and Spider -Man 2, which they had their own soundtrack,

but there was nothing like extremely memorable.

But he did Batman and Batman Returns. And those

were some of the most memorable soundtracks in

the world, especially Batman 1989, which went

on to the animated series and so on, and kind

of set the tone for the animated universe. So...

I'm super stoked for that and I hope that there's

something really awesome going on with it It's

it's yeah, I'm just I'm hoping that it's really

good and then they kind of teased the in some

of the reshoot set photos teasing almost the

Hall of Justice so I'm kind of done with that

as well Los Angeles because we had the unfortunate

loss of Adam West had a ceremony of bat signal

lighting on June 15th and I can honestly say

that that's that's just awesome to to memorialize

him that way yeah I that's such a sad passing

he was such an iconic actor and he had that that

kind of voice for very memorable voice very much

Kind of like how Shatner has his own tone and

voice, and Adam West had his own tone and voice.

It's really hard when you lose somebody like

that. I mean, Chris Walken is pretty much that

same. You know, I'm not saying that they all

have the same voice, but I'm saying that they

have... They have kind of that unique voice to

their own self that they add to their acting,

and it's kind of fun. Rocko's Modern Life cast

is returning for a movie. Yeah, from the 90s,

coming back. And it had its own kind of questionable

material inside the show as well. But yeah, it's

been 20 years since the last episode aired? And

the movie's gonna air in 2018 and stars Rocco,

Huffer, and the other principal cast members

returning to Earth after having been stranded

in space since 1996. I don't remember that, but

that's kind of interesting. It says not all of

the characters adjust all that well to the many

start differences between 96 Earth life and current

day Earth life. That's kind of an interesting

take, kind of plucking them from the universe.

I don't know if they ever went to... Space in

the last episode, but I'm fine with that I mean

It it's kind of that showing that everything

from the 90s is coming back again And everybody

wants what we had in the 90s because it was awesome

Speaking of awesome from the 90s Batman mask

of the man phantasm blu -ray remaster has been

announced And they finally got it coming to Blu

-ray, which may be the only way that I'll purchase

it again, because I bought it for DVD all those

years ago, and I had it on VHS, and I saw that

in theater, so it holds a special place for me.

But yeah, I'm wondering what they're gonna do

to it. It says it was originally released in

standard definition on Laserdisc and VHS in 94,

and the remaster will up the resolution to 1080p.

Leaving the aspect ratio open for viewers to

decide the remaster will support both and updated

16 by 9 and the film's original for not for three

Subtitles and a bonus theatrical trailer. I'll

probably buy it unless WB finds it in their hearts

to send it to me. I've that's one of my favorite

bat films so So yeah, and then Fox is developing

a kid -friendly Fantastic Four reboot. I could

care less at this point. I mean we had kind of

a kid -friendly one in the past with When we

had Chris Evans as the Human Torch, I mean that

was to me like It was realistic enough, but it

was still cheesy enough that it didn't was it

really all that scary. I mean it was It wasn't

really that bad, but I'm I'm fine with it Again,

it's not something I'll care all that much. Carrie

Fisher, of course, I don't want to touch too

much on this because everybody in their world

has touched on this, but they said that her death

was released by the LA coroner, which, she died

in December. For it to come out now is a bit

strange, and it's almost like a why bother? But

Variety reported that her autopsy report has

confirmed that she had cocaine, methadone, heroin,

and ecstasy in her system upon the death. That's

what caused her to die, unfortunately, which

she had problems with some of that stuff. I'm

glad that she got to do Star Wars one last time,

and it's unfortunate that she's gone. Yeah, I

mean, it's still sad either way you look at it.

And then Arrow and Legends executive producer

teases this year's four -show DCTV crossover,

which all these sites are saying is that they're

working on it, they're talking about it. There's

really nothing concrete. So if you're trying

to look for that, don't bother, there's not going

to be anything concrete probably until the season

starts up this fall. They're just saying that

they're going to go look at it. So it's a giant

waste of time. Clickbait. Wherever you go. So

just avoid it like the plague. There's nothing

worth clicking on. I saved you the hassle of

having to check it yourself. So I guess until

next time, I hope you guys enjoyed this episode.

It's a little bit more normal length at this

point. And... Until next time, let me know what

you guys think. Let me know what you guys want

to hear about in the next episode. I do have

some returning guests coming. I almost had one

for the next episode. However, I wasn't feeling

all that great, so I had to kind of bail. I feel

terrible about it, but yeah. So, just let me

know what you guys think about the movies, the

TVs, the games, anything, the tech, and what

you want to hear about next time that maybe I

left out, or maybe I'm incorrect on, or your

own opinions. I'd love to do another feedback

episode because that was fun. And so until next

time, get altered, get geeky with the Altered

Geeks!
