About this Episode

OptimusSolo and TFG1Mike discuss three episodes of the original He-Man cartoon: "Pawns of the Game Master" (written by Paul Dini), where the Game Master tries to recruit He-Man for his cosmic games; "The Huntsmen," featuring Baron Grodd's hunt for Eternia's last unicorn; and "The Remedy," in which He-Man races against time to find a cure for his father's old friend. The hosts debate the merits of one-off villains versus recurring evil warriors, discuss the role of Prince Adam when the Sword of Power is unavailable, and explore the show's approach to environmental and moral storytelling.

and the Masters of the Universe! I am Adam, Prince

of Eternia and defender of the secrets of Castle

Grayskull. This is Cringer, my fearless friend.

Fabulous secret powers were revealed to me the

day I held aloft my magic sword and said, By

the power of Grayskull! Hello, this is Optimus

Solo and welcome to the 19th chapter in Tales

of Eternity. With me for this journey into the

Masters of the Universe franchise is, as always,

TFG1 Mike. Hello. Hello. Are you ready once again

to journey into the powers of Grayskull? Yes.

People, leave us iTunes reviews. I want to say

that up front, please. We only have three of

them. We are back. We are back full time. We

will finish this show before the end of 2014,

if not before the end of the summer. We're almost

done with season... season one so in this episode

of tales of eternia we will be giving you our

thoughts on episode 55 pawns of the game master

episode 56 the huntsman and episode 57 the remedy

so we hope you're ready because it's time to

go back to eternal the perfect ladiator for my

cosmic games. But who will it be? A warrior known

as Ram -Man, perhaps. No. No, he possesses great

strength. The oaf is too clumsy for my purposes.

Beachman's power is mighty indeed. But his savage

nature makes him completely untamable. For my

gains, I'll need the greatest fighter the universe

has ever known. None other than He -Man himself!

And now to fake a distress call that will lead

the hero to me! Alright, episode 55, Pawns of

the Game Master. Written by Paul Dini, this is

his... 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9th episode that

he wrote for the series that we've talked about.

Last we talked about him was with Wizard of Stone

Mountain. So Pawns of the Game Master aired Friday,

November 18th, 1983, and the plot goes a little

something like this. A villain called the Game

Master tricks He -Man and Battle Cat into meeting

him and his warriors. After a brief battle, the

Game Master surrenders and leaves, but not before

sending his spy to follow He -Man. The Game Master

arrives at the Royal Palace, kidnaps Tila, and

takes Prince Adam's sword. Adam, Cringer, and

Orko decide to try to rescue Tila, but can Adam

prove Tila wrong and be a hero that she thinks

he can never be? We did have a brief shot of

Beast Man in this episode, kind of, and a brief

shot of Ram Man, otherwise it was just the main

masters and no evil warriors. And the PSA was

all about don't be a sore loser or a bad winner,

which we'll talk about in a little bit. But first

of all, the plot of this Game Master coming in

and trying to add He -Man to his ranks and He

-Man trying to defend that and then obviously

being without the sword and having to deal with

Prince Adam for most of the episode. What did

you feel about the plot of this one? Oh boy.

I didn't know they had internet dating back in

the 80s. It just... Okay, sure. The Game Master

and... Wow, this was six years before Kevin Keen

got sucked into video land. Holy crap. No, I

didn't care for this blog. It's just... half

glimpse of Beastman I mean okay say what you

want about Beastman ladies and gentlemen if you

like him you don't like him whatever at this

point in the season any evil warrior for more

than five friggin seconds that is the main evil

warriors that we know is gonna be good for me

because I'm so sick of these non Skeletor plots

I really really am How do you really feel? I'm

just sick of it. I did not share your thoughts

on this episode. I actually enjoyed the episode.

I thought it was an interesting plot having this

guy come in and who's basically collecting the

best warriors that he can. Not that that's a

story that we've never seen before, but I enjoyed

it in this setting and I thought it was interesting,

you know, as he kind of... Scrolls through different

characters that he could add. He's like, oh I'll

add Ram and no he's too dumb or whatever He said

and I was like, you know, how about beast man?

And then finally he's obviously like on he man

and he's trying to add him and I like the twist

that You know the sword gets taken away and that

we have to deal with Prince Adam Has the main

character throughout most of the episode. So

I actually thought it was a Obviously I agree

with you your sentiment about we need some evil

warriors because it seems like it's been about

15 to 20 episodes I know it hasn't been that

long, but it seems like it's been that long since

we've seen any Substantial appearances of the

evil warrior, so I agree with that part, but

as far as the Episodes that don't have to do

with the evil warriors. I thought this was one

of the better ones I Mean I like the plot of

it. It's just I'm I'm sick of just one -off villains

I mean, that should be another one of our recaps

when we either recap the season or the series

for He -Man. How many episodes had one -off villains?

Or what were the best one -off villains? Yeah,

I guess. I don't know. I'm just kind of like

the whole point of this show, at least in my

mind, even as a kid, it was like He -Man and

his group versus Skeletor and his group. And

like you said, we've had 14 -15 some -odd episodes

without hardly any evil warriors. I don't even

remember the last time Skeletor showed up. It's

been a little while. Yeah. And then the PSA,

like I said, was about not being a sore loser

or a bad winner, which I think is a pretty great

message to send to the kids. And it obviously

is somewhat related to the episode, but that's

a timeless classic kids message, so that's always

good. Yeah, I like the PSA and since it pertained

to the game master You know that That was pretty

good again. I'm just not I'm just Yeah, let's

go to Castle Grey school on the way I'm gonna

inject you with positive energy and see if you

can find something good to say about this episode

Yeah, I scream when I see needles. So alright

sounds like a fun adventure There it is ladies

man, it owns latest invention the Android horse

Show us how it works. Adam. We'd love to see

All you have to do is sit in the saddle and say

forward Strider We changed Strider's vocal command

unit today. Anyone who tries to ride it besides

man -at -arms with me gets thrown. I wish I'd

known that before I took my gun. Alright, don't

worry folks, Mike survived the needle injection.

He is going to be forced to try to say something

good about this episode now, so we will hand

the mic over to Mike for his Castle Grayskull

moments. I have exactly two things. Well, that

was an interesting way for everyone to not find

out the secret, but can't they hear? I mean,

is everybody deaf in Atternean now? I mean, come

on. And I know we've talked about this before,

when he meant when Adam goes off and does the

whole thing. The whole transformation is more

for the audience than it is for the characters,

but I'm sorry. If you can't hear Battle Cat roaring...

like five feet away then there's something wrong

with you and i know this is supposed to be positive

but it just this episode the only positive thing

for it was i love the ending at grayskull i thought

that was great that's it the rest of it no Alright,

well you were sadfully wrong on all of your thoughts

on this episode so far. First of all, I loved

the intro with the search for the warrior. I

loved what they did there showing Beastman and

Ramman even though they're not technically in

the episode. I liked those little synopsises

where they kind of did a brief overview of the

character, the good side and the bad side as

they were searching around. I thought that was

a cool way to intro the show. I thought we got

a little character development into Prince Adam

and just see him showing off for the ladies and

some insight there. I liked that the sword was

taken, I always liked that, so you have to try

to figure out how to do things without your fall

-to, you know, go -to guy when you're changing

the He -Man. Obviously eventually he does and

I agree with you. I liked that they thought to

make orko They thought to have orko make everybody

blind Still risky though for them to do that

with Tila right there, etc But at least they

they did because of orko wouldn't have done that

that would have been a bad part for me And I

also like the ending I and I thought it was a

good ending to the to the love triangle if we

had to have a love triangle So I thought it was

a good intro good ending Good stuff along the

way. Not like a whole bunch of like little specific

highlights, but overall a good episode. And now

we will give Mike his day in the sun or the darkness

as we travel to Snake Mountain. Let's all jump

in the lava pit, ladies and gentlemen. No, injections

and lava in the same episode would be too traumatic.

Nah. But I like that fellow a lot. More than

he, man. And I like you both. But for different

reasons. You could never be a warrior like He

-Man is. Oh, I don't know. I'm pretty good with

a sword. Adam! Adam, I'll need that sword! Wait,

Teela! This is a memento of my easy victory.

Alright, before Mike pollutes the air around

Snink Mountain with his negativity, I just have

a few lowlights to get out of the way real quick.

First, I thought it was weird that he immediately

pulled a sword, given the situation that he was

in. There wasn't immediate danger, but I guess

maybe stranger danger, so he immediately felt

like he needed to pull the sword. I thought that

was kind of weird. I could do without any more

of the little love whispers. And I believe Tila

should stop being a whore. She can't like everybody.

She needs to pick somebody and stick with him,

regardless of if they're the same person or not.

So Tila, stop being a whore. And overall, He

-Man fights the entire episode. I'm sorry, Prince

Adam fights his entire episode to get his sword

back. And then as soon as he gets his sword,

he throws it. Know it's like, you know, he's

throwing it with a purpose and you know, it serves

a purpose or whatever But I would think if you've

been without your sword that long the first thing

you do when you get it would not be to throw

it Yeah, all right, sir. It's all yours Tila

and he man a couple in all caps. I wrote this

down worst internet dating experience ever Where's

the internet part coming into just this whole

episode to me felt like? eHarmony commercial

or Something like that match .com. It just really

really did Now you said earlier that or go blinded

them Right. Is that okay? Maybe that's where

this is coming from But even if you're blind

you you people can still hear and my note was

really Adam can sneak past them that easily really

And the last one was what I just said, seriously,

all this is is a dating website ad before there

was the internet. It just... I did not get that

feel at all during the entire episode. Because

the Game Master, the Game Master seems to think

that He -Man and Tila are married or whatever

the hell and it just... Think you just saw I

don't think it was necessarily that I think you

just saw her as somebody that was important to

him So that was the way to get to him was to

because he had the spy and the spy overheard

them So that's where he was going with that He

just thought you know, this is someone that's

important to him. And if I get her maybe it'll

bring him into the fold It was more of a beat

like a ransom Yeah Anything else sir? No Well,

that wasn't too much negative stuff to say. No,

it just... Overall, this episode really sucked

in my opinion. Alright, well I'm gonna take Mike

behind Snake Mountain and beat the utter sense

into him or out of him or something, and then

we will come back with our awards for Pawns of

the Game Master. Adam, those aliens, where they

taking Tila? They're holding his gate for He

-Man. Well, why don't you just become He -Man

and go after them? I wish I could, Erko, but

they only took my sword. Oh, no! I'm going after

them. Tila said I'd never be the hero He -Man

is. All right, it's ranking and award time first

of the episode here for pawns of the game master

I am afraid to even go to you as far as power

swords and Havoc staffs But do you have anything

usual the usual Tila Tila? What it just she just?

Tila gets a power sword. No Tila gets a Havoc

staff. Okay, because she needs to stop being

a whore as you so succinctly put it I mean it

just I don't think I I would like okay. We're

only 19 episodes into this 45 episode podcast

I would like any listener to go back and count

how many power swords I have ever given Tila

I hardly doubt there's gonna be maybe five Anyways,

so you I can I can understand somewhat if I have

a staffer to you I guess if I was gonna have

to give one out I would give it to her but I'm

not going to I am mr. Positive with this episode

because it was a good episode and I'm giving

a power sword out to number one Prince Adam for

Being able to do what he did without the sword

without being able to be he man I liked Adam

in this episode and I'm also gonna give a power

sword out to the Game Master because I actually

thought he was a cool one -off villain Normally,

I'm all for Adam being there and involved and

everything else and I guess that is a positive

part of this episode, but it just It just didn't

I just wasn't feeling it when I watched this

episode. It just wasn't wasn't that he was in

a bad mood folks He needs to rewatch it. It's

all right. Don't blame him. Don't fault him All

right, I'm afraid to ask because I know we are

gonna strongly disagree on this one But how many

orcos do you give this episode? One I already

had that written down No, you didn't. Yes, I

did. I already had one written down for you.

You, sir, are an idiot. I'm just kidding. I will

give this one four and a half out of five battle

cats. Four and a half. Four and a half. It's

one of my higher rated episodes. I thoroughly

enjoyed the Game Master plot. I enjoyed the PSA.

I enjoyed the intro. I enjoyed the closing. I

enjoyed Adam. I enjoyed the one -off villain.

Teela, nah, but other than that, good episode.

All right, moving right along. Let's get to the

next episode. The King said to thank you for

lending this to him. I'm always glad to him.

Can't we go now, Adam? This place gives me the

creep. Cringer, that's very rude. You apologize

right now. I'm sorry you live in such a creepy

place, Sorceress. Cranker! That's alright, Adam.

Sorceress, help us, please! What's that? It's

the Silani. They're trying to contact me magically.

Sorceress, please, if you can hear us... Who

are the Silani? The fairy folk. They live in

the Whispering Valley. Tell me how I can help.

A huntsman has entered the Mystic Mountains.

He seeks our valley and the unicorn. A unicorn?

I didn't think they still existed. There is only

one left on all Eternia. The Silani are sworn

to protect it. Who is this huntsman? His name

is Baron Grodd. Grodd? Yes, I've heard of him.

I will do what I can. Thank you sorceress. Thank

you, but please hurry All right for episode 56

we find ourselves in the land of snow white and

the huntsman And i'm sorry the huntsman uh written

by larry datilio That would be his seventh episode.

Um, we saw him with return of granny mayor last

week So the huntsman aired monday is how we started

the week. Uh, november 21st 1983. At Castle Grayskull,

Adam, Tila, and Kringer are visiting the Sorceress

when they are suddenly contacted by the Solani.

They inform the heroes that Baron Grodd is planning

to hunt down the last remaining unicorn on Eternia.

Adam, Tila, and Kringer fly out to Barangrad's

castle and plead with him not to go through with

the hunt. Barangrad refuses, forcing Adam to

seek the assistance of his father. But before

they get back to the royal palace, Barangrad

orders his ogre comrades to capture the heroes.

Taken to the ogre's lair, the three of them escape,

with Adam and Kringer transforming into He -Man

and Battlecat, while Tila evades the ogres who

pursue her. He -Man, Battlecat, and Tila arriving

in the Whispering Valley to stop Barangrad from

capturing the unicorn, but are too late. They

travel to Barangrad's castle. And during the

battle, he accidentally resurrects one of his

other captured animals. The animal attacks him,

but Tila saves his life. This prompts Beringrad

to free all the animals he has captured, and

the last remaining unicorn is safe. Our main

masters, once again, no evil warriors. And I

don't remember what the PSA was for this episode,

and I forgot to write it down. My bad. The PSA,

the PSA, what was the PSA? Alright, hang on a

second, folks. Editing pause! Wait, wait, wait.

Go ahead. I liked it that I saw too many early

She -Ra moments. Not that that's a bad thing.

but the whole unicorn thing and swift wind and

all that stuff and uh it was better than the

game master i'll say that not by much because

at this point and i know you're gonna crucify

me for this and tell me not to do this but i'm

doing it anyway at least with this episode any

episode from now until the end of the series

if it doesn't have at least one evil warrior

and it gets three points knocked off automatically

Yeah, I know right But I do have legitimate complaints

once we get to snake mountains But the plot It's

it's something I feel like I've seen so many

times before I believe that would be because

we have both seen this plot I believe This is

very similar to an episode of Thundercats, which

I know came after He -Man, so I'm not trying

to say that they're ripping this off, but...

Well, they couldn't if Thundercats came after

him. Right. That's what I'm saying. I'm saying

it's not a ripoff or anything else, but I'm saying

that there's an episode of Thundercats, which

I at least watched a while back, where they're

also trying to save Unicorn of some sort, I believe.

Yeah, I remember that one. Yeah, I know what

you're talking about. So it's not an uncommon,

you know, in the realm of fantasy cartoons in

the 80s to have some type of deal where they

are trying to play to the part of, you know,

endangered animals and teaching kids about that

type of thing. And it seems like they run to

unicorns as their go -to animal that's somewhat

endangered, I guess, in the world of cartoons.

And it's not just that it was... I'm saying I...

Seemed to have seen this like in the last ten

years kind of plot now It's not even the fact

that it's a standard 80s 80s cartoon kind of

plot this plot of them trying to convince someone

to Do the right thing. That's basically what

this whole episode is. It's Tila poorly attempting

to Convince this guy to do the proper thing and

I've seen that so many times before and This

just didn't... It was Tail of the Hammerhand,

I think, when the pyre guys were trying to capture

the unicorns and Lionel meets the unicorn keepers.

Anyways, we are getting off track with that.

Anyways, just in general, it just seems weird

that we're He -Man masters of the universe and

we have an episode where we're trying to save

the last unicorn. I don't know. Maybe my tone

will get across my point on that one, but...

I don't know. I mean, I guess it's a good plot

story as far as there's a guy that's, um, you

know, killing all these animals, et cetera, et

cetera. And we're going to teach kids that, you

know, you had to respect nature and animals or

whatever, but I don't know. I could deal with

it. Oh God. Oh God. Can you imagine if, uh, it

was going to be so bad. Imagine if, okay, we

had Tila in this episode. Imagine if there was

Tila. The only other good female is is Marlena

so Tila Marlena Stratos Crap Stratos ram man

and man -at -arms That's five kids with five

rings to summon he man. Oh my god This is a Captain

Planet episode before Captain Planet was ever

existed stretch if I've ever seen one I just

would have been better if the plot would have

been something about like Instead of unicorn

being the example that we're gonna use to get

the story across, you know That was like some

type of ferocious beast or dragon or something

that was endangered that this guy was hunting

Rather than a unicorn. I don't know Yeah, but

I guess it's a good message. Don't lose your

cool kids All right. Well, we will try not to

lose our cool and we promise not to hunt any

unicorns or other Eternian animals as we travel

to Castle Griswold. Who goes there? I am Adam,

Prince of Eternia. We want to speak with Baron

Grodd. Immediately! The Baron is on the practice

ranger arenas. If you'll wait, I'll send someone

for him. Don't bother, we'll go ourselves. Where

is it? That way. Target! Let's have three this

time! Pretty good shooting. Who are you? I am

Prince Adam. This is Teela, captain of the Royal

Guard and my friend and companion, Cringer. Your

Highness, forgive me for not recognizing you.

I haven't been to the Royal Palace in a long

time. Baron, we want to talk to you about a very

important matter. Of course. But let's go inside

where we can be more comfortable. Growler, come.

Gringer! Your pet is not very brave, is he? I

built mine to fear nothing. He has his moments.

Unfortunately, this isn't one of them. Will you

get down? You're embarrassing me. I'd rather

be embarrassed than eaten. A shame. Such a good

-looking beast. Well, shall we go? Just lead

the way. At least he thinks you look good, Gringer.

He probably wants to make me into a cult. My

trophies! I caught each animal myself. Magnificent,

aren't they? Disgusting is more like it. All

these poor animals. Control yourself. They, uh,

they look almost alive. They are. I put them

in a state of paralysis when I catch them. It

preserves their natural beauty better. That monster!

How can he be so cruel? Now, what is it you wish

to speak about? We understand you're about to

hunt down a unicorn. Quite true. It will be my

greatest hunt ever. Do you know that it's the

last unicorn on Eternia? Of course. That's why

it's such a valuable catch. No huntsman on this

world can boast such a trophy. But the unicorn

has a right to live, especially since it's the

last of its kind. But it will live. In fact,

it will live forever, just as all my trophies

do. And I mean to have it. You can't reason with

a villain like him, Adam! Calm down, Tila. You

won't call off this hunt? That's correct. Well,

in that case, I have no choice but to ask the

king for a royal order against it. As much as

I respect the royal family, you have no right

to meddle in my affairs. And you have no right

to hunt down the last unicorn for your own selfish

pleasure. As I'm sure my father will agree. Goodbye,

Baron. You sure told him, Adam. Good for you!

You can't do this! Alright, we found ourselves

safe and secure at Castle Grayskull. Looking

for highlights from the Huntsman. I just have

a couple and I'll let you go here. First of all,

I thought it was kind of funny that Cringer was

calling the castle creepy. I just thought that

was a cute, clever insight into what is somewhat

creepy of a castle and Cringer recognizing that.

I also thought it was cool that He -Man recognized

that he shouldn't be there at the one point.

But maybe the best part for me in the episode

is that there was actually some lawmaking on

Eternia. We had King Randor basically passing

a law about the hunting of endangered animals,

etc. So I thought that was kind of a clever insight

into Eternian law. What about you? King Randor

actually passes down laws and rules. It's something

that, and I get it, it's a kid's cartoon, so

they're not going to do this a lot, but... It's

something we don't see randor really doing you

know sometimes he's done decrees before and stuff

like that, but it's not It's I really enjoyed

that part of it There was a point where I Forget,

I think it was Tila, but I forget where she mentions

the woods somebody mentions the woods And I thought

she was going to say the Whispering Woods. And

I'm like, oh god, they're already foreshadowing

She -Ra. And what's this, a unicorn? Yeah. The

other thing I wrote down for this one, the animation

was pretty good. I liked that for the most part.

And part of the animation with this show that

I always love. Is when the power hunts Cringer

down. When it basically finds him around the

corner and bounces. I love that. So freaking

awesome. What about you? Just those ones that

I said about the lawmaking and the creepy castle.

So any other good moments that you had about

the Huntsman? Nope. Alright, well then let's

see what negative stuff... Mike's always good

for some negative moments, so let's... See how

it feels about this episode as we travel to Snake

Mountain and again we promise we will not kill

any snakes on our journey. Well, I won't promise

that. You can, but I won't. Alright, there's

a law passed here in Eternia. I don't know if

you were aware of that. You're gonna get yourself

in danger at the Royal Palace. There's a difference

between hunting unicorns and killing the devil,

which is a snake, so... Now we just opened up

a can of worms. Alright, let's get to Snake Mountain.

We use those to go fishing. Baron Grodd to Gamrak.

Come in, Gamrak. Gamrak, this is Baron Grodd

calling. Answer, you stupid ogre. Gamrak hears

you, Grodd. Speak. My wind raider has just left

my castle, heading south. I want you to bring

it down and take the passengers prisoner. Who

are the passengers? Prince Adam and Teela, Captain

of the Royal Guard. Hmm, very important people.

A lot of risk. I'll pay well, as I always do.

Of course, if you're afraid... I am Chieftain

of the Ogres! Of the Mystic Mountains! I fear

nothing! But the pay must be double this time.

Agreed. But no one must know I'm involved. And

I don't want them harmed. Only hell for a while.

It will be, as you say. All right, sir. Now that

we're at Snake Mountain, what evil things do

you have to say about the Huntsman? OK, I know

this is going to be an understatement, especially

for me, considering I can be very much like this.

But oh, my God, I was banging my head against

the desk watching this because Teela is so close

minded. Once again. He man knows stuff that he

shouldn't, or he should have said Adam told me

when I saved him or something. Another episode

that is just there. Nothing really major happens.

No super cool, oh my god, that was awesome moments

at all. Man, they're really phoning it in these

last 15 episodes of this season. I don't know

if I completely agree with that. We've had some

decent episodes along the way You're hating on

Paul Dini and Lear to tell you on this episode

by the way, yes, I know Well the record I am

NOT It's nothing against them it just it's one

of those things where it's like can't you throw

the evil warriors a bone people come on I guess

not. No bones thrown at the evil warriors. I

thought, again, I'll echo your sentiment somewhat

with Tila being stupid in this episode. First

of all, she was acting mad, which is very not

believable and very fake. And then Adam was kind

of being silly mad. Don't know there's just some

weird moments with them acting as characters

in this episode overall and then I have a slight

problem here We have an endangered animal story.

All right, and we are trying to save the last

unicorn Okay, so my question is at this point

what's the fucking point there's only one of

them left and less unicorns can You know like

Mary, have an immaculate conception, once that

unicorn is dead, there will be no more unicorns

anyway. If they would have said these are the

last two unicorns, this whole story would have

made more sense. But if there's only one left,

then it's pretty much over for the unicorn race.

Like I said in the beginning this had a lot of

feeling of oh my god They're foreshadowing Shira

at least at least in my mind it did and I was

like hmm If aetheria is real, maybe they can

just you know transport some unicorns Well, maybe

I don't maybe I'm not well versed in the unicorn

reproductive system Maybe somebody can enlighten

me on how it's gonna matter if there's one or

zero because she can't she or he cannot reproduce

therefore when its life is over unicorns will

be done anyway so why don't you just go hunt

on it doesn't matter it's inevitable this is

a bad lesson on endangered animals because if

you wait until there's only one folks you've

waited too long yeah exactly all right let's

see who we can beat over the head with Havoc

staffs or who we can gladly present power swords

to oh my god you have a power sword for this

episode People will have to wait and see. Come

back after the break. I don't think they'll give

us any more trouble. Now to stop Baron Grad.

You know about it? Yes, of course. He's the reason

I'm here and unless I miss my guess, he's already

hunting the unicorn. It's award time here at

Powers of Grayskull. And first up on the award

stand podium to give his bestowing great things

upon people, I'm sure. uh michael what do you

got for us today two havoc staffs two havoc staffs

two havoc staffs one for the baron for not listening

not even having any iota of even trying to hear

what heman and tila are trying to tell her can

i guess what the other one's going to you already

know it's tila because instead of asking and

being nice and not being a whore, she was way

too damn overbearing. Teela proved one thing

in this episode and that she's a bad actor because

that was not a good acting mad in that situation.

I actually am going to 100 % agree and give a

Havoc staff a second Havoc staff as soon as they

get up for both of those characters. So after

you hit them, they fall to the ground, they stand

back up, I will hit them again and hopefully

knock them out. Havoc staffs. to both of those

jabronis. As far as ratings go, I am going to

predict that you are going to give this one a...

Let me write it down here. One. Oh, okay. I was

off. I was going to give you a one and a half

on this one. No, I was going to give this a two

out of five orcos. And then as you're telling

me and we were talking it out about how it...

Okay, sure. Killing animals. is wrong, killing

anything is wrong, but as you're sitting here

complaining and talking about what is it gonna

matter about the last unicorn, and unicorns,

to my knowledge, are mythical creatures. They're

not even real as far as like real world, you

know, comparisons. So, yeah, I give it a one

because it just, the more we talked about it,

it was like, yeah, the worst it got. As always,

I'm gonna be kinder and gentler. to episodes

that Mike is mean to. Not saying I don't trash

on some episodes, because I do, but I just kind

of felt this was one of those episodes that didn't

do anything great, didn't do anything god -awful

terrible. Didn't have, you know, anything on

either side to sway me, so I'm going to stick

right in the middle and give it a two and a half.

Two and a half out of five. It's not good. It's

not bad. It's just there, like you said. It's

just an episode that's there. Let's see if episode

57 is also an episode that is just there or if

we get away from Paul Dini and Larry DiTillio

if you'll have something positive to say. Here

we go. Alright Adam, again, carefully. It worked.

Teela, I've wonderful news. I'm afraid I have

some sad news about an old friend, Father, who

was very sick. Poor Rohan, my teacher. He taught

me so much. Now he's desperately ill and nobody

knows the cause. I must go to him. I'd like to

go with you. And I'll go too, Father. Tell me

everything, Mitro. How did it happen? We were

searching the tundra caverns for my grandson

who got lost. I had given up hope of finding

him. It's episode 57 and let's see if the remedy

can truly be the remedy for Mike's discontent

this episode so far. It aired Tuesday, November

22nd, 1983. It was written by Sam and Rob Schultz

who had done four episodes. Prior to this, it's

not my fault, the defection and sheeting of phantos.

The plot for the remedy, Adam and Man -at -Arms

and Tila fly out to see Rohad, an old friend

of Man -at -Arms who is very sick and slowly

dying. The sorceress tells Adam and Man -at -Arms

that Rohad was bitten by a dauber and needs Vimwood

to cure the illness. The two of them fly to the

Crystal Mountains, but a fierce storm forces

the Windraider down, leaving man -at -arms behind.

To work on the Windraider, He -Man rushes on

foot to obtain the Vimwood, but encounters many

obstacles, including an octopus and a whirlpool.

He -Man frees a Taktral from the web of a Kryvon.

Crevon, and when he falls to his death trying

to leap a gorge, the Taktral saves his life.

He -Man manages to obtain the Vimwood, but not

after pleading with the Ancients. Flying back

to Rohad on the Taktral, He -Man encounters a

Mandrone, but working together, He -Man and the

Taktral defeat the Mandrone and race back and

save Rohad's life. So besides Rohad, Dauber,

Vimwood, Crivan, Tactral, and Mandrone entering

our lexicon. Were you able to decipher this plot

on this episode? Yeah, it's fairly easy and it's

again standard compared to today. From back then

to today's standards, it is standard. Someone's

dying. You have X amount of time to go get an

antinote and bring it back to save their life.

You have a lot of obstacles on the way. And yeah,

and the sad thing is this is very similar to

one of my most Disliked Knight Rider episodes

from season two race for life. It's basically

the exact same plot except they're looking for

An organ donation for a little girl It's not

the reason why I dislike the episode but this

one I don't like it's not that it hateful hateful

man that's not what i mean i do we really want

to go down this night rider at home really at

all well that's because you hate cars even though

you drive a truck that's exactly right i drive

a truck not a car it's still a vehicle anyway

uh no no no here's the thing i like this episode

i think this is a good episode sure i'm gonna

have a couple of issues with it like um They

tell him and he doesn't have a lot of time. Thankfully

they didn't say in X number of minutes hours

Mega cycles, whatever however time is measured

on on Eternia At least they didn't say that but

what I have a real problem with this episode

is how is he going through all of this and how

is Rohad still alive because He was gone for

a very very long time. I'm sorry. I don't care

if he's the most powerful man in the universe

His running that's not fast run he's not he was

running fast He had two different types of running

in this episode if you watch the animation he

had his standard running Then he had this fast

running where all of a sudden he hunched over

and looked very weird But apparently that meant

he was going very fast Not fast enough apparently

he saved him so apparently it was a Few more

times in the sentence Etc. Etc. I forgot to mention

that as far as the Masters go again We have the

main ones as far as evil warriors go. They're

on vacation people. They're on vacation. They're

on a cruise Outside of Eternia leave them alone.

They're enjoying their cruise. They will be back

with a vengeance sometime in the next season,

hopefully I mean, Skeletor's got to be nice every

once in a while and treat his cronies. They're

also recruiting. They're out recruiting people

to try to attack He -Man in a new and different

way. The PSA was all about the true meaning of

friendship, obviously going back to the storyline

between Man -At -Arms and Rohad. I enjoyed the

plot. Like I said, it's a plot we've seen before,

but I thought it was an interesting take on that

as far as someone being sick or someone getting

poisoned, etc. You know the clock's ticking you

got to find something and you got to overcome

some type of obstacle to get that that's a standard

plot But I thought they did a good job with that

plot The execution was decent So as far as anything

other did you want to comment at all about the

the evil warriors not being there or anything

else about the plot Or an episode 57 right correct

We have about Don't know Eight or nine episodes

left of season one they better Show up somewhere

There better be This is so sad. I am so missing

a standard Trapjaw episode where he sent out

to get something for Skeletor You know you're

I'm so missing the villain of the week with the

evil warriors at this point We have exactly eight

episodes before the season one is done and three

episodes of the podcast So we will see if one

of them and you're happy or not Like I said,

I like this episode I like that I enjoyed this

episode more than the other two that we've talked

about today, so I'm just saying that We haven't

seen any evil warriors. There's eight episodes

left in the season one and it's like Hurry up

already and why does Skeletor need to take them

on vacation? They live in a lava -filled resort

Well, it's more of a recruiting vacation. Yeah

Alright, well let's go to Castle Grey Skull and

see if we can find anybody there. You never like

to rush a project. I, on the other hand, couldn't

finish one fast enough. When Rohad was asleep,

I returned to try and finish following his plans

just as he'd drawn them. I thought I had all

the answers, but I didn't. Suddenly there was

a giant flash. Everything started to shake and

fill with smoke. The next thing I knew, Rohat

was pulling me out of the machine. And then,

like he knew what was about to happen, he pulled

me behind a metal lab counter. And then things

blew from here to the vine jungle. But that's

the strange part. I had ruined his whole experiment,

and yet he wasn't a bit angry. He praised me

for my eagerness and told me, sometimes before

you can make something work, you have to know

how it doesn't work. He saved my life. I hope

we can do the same for him. All right. For the

last time today, we're approaching Castle Grayskull

so that we can talk about the good things about

the remedy, which maybe truly is a remedy for

Mike today. What positive good things do you

have to say about this episode? You know, you

mentioned I think it was episode 17 or well,

no, it was probably Whenever we did wizard of

stone man, I think it was episode 18 Once you

like the backstory for Tila. I like the backstory

for Duncan here I thought that was really cool

to get some some more man -in -arms backstory

and we've had backstory for him before Way back

in Tila's quest But I did like this and I thought

that was really cool. I love the flying through

fog. I thought that was, you know, when he was

going up against the dragon, I thought that was

looking really cool. At least he put the web

cord on his boot and not his crotch. Get out

of my head. What do you got? I like that it was

an interesting take on the same plot that we've

seen different times, but I thought that the

execution was well as far as how they did it,

so I enjoyed the plot. I again like the backstory

and the continuity of Rowhead being man -at -arms

teacher and what we get to see there. I like

that he kept something in his boot instead of

his belt, but I don't think either is a comfortable

place to store stuff like that. But it was interesting

seeing him go to the boot instead of the belt.

And then I thought we had the introduction of

a new character. I thought we were gonna see

Octoman The octopus definitely played an interesting

part in this one. I thought he had potential

to become his own character But yeah, just overall

a decent episode not like a bunch of huge like

breathtaking blow -your -mind moment type things,

but overall a good episode All right. Well, let's

again for the last time today. See what negative

stuff we can trudge out at Snakemon. I think

just for purpose sake of this episode we should

just go to snake mountain we should pillage it

we should steal everything that's there because

we know that there are no evil warriors in sight

so this is a perfect moment to loot and plunder

oh god you had to go there didn't you ladies

and gentlemen welcome to the planet punks podcast

for this episode. I just thought there was some,

not execution on the writers or the character

development or anything like that, but some execution

as far as the episode quality. I thought there

were some audio issues. I thought there was some

animation, weird design drawing, especially with

He -Man running at that one point. And then there

was a little bit of bad dialogue and stuff. I

don't like the fact that they were like, oh,

a bird, and then all of a sudden we have a bird

appear, and oh, wind, and then there's wind.

And I don't know, there was just some kind of...

Cheesiness on that aspect but more so on the

animation audio visual aspects. There were some

lowlights on this episode But I'll let you guys

watch it and find those for yourself. What about

you there were 57 episodes into the series and

There have been so many different stock animation

Type of scenes like he man running in in that

in that super speed Thing that you mentioned

with him crouching and then running it It's Maybe

we noticed it more here than any other episode,

but it was just bad Well, I thought they showed

I thought there was two different running animations

that they showed in this episode I thought the

one that I hadn't noticed before Yeah, one seems

fine the one I have no problem with it actually

looks like he's running But then there's this

other one that just looked retarded No, the the

crouch running where he's like leaning forward.

No, we I've seen that before That's that's what

else you got Don't know why this is in because

more of a comedy I don't know why this is here

at snake mountain But did he just say web fluid

where spider -man when you really need him? Reference

number 365 today Yes, we know the time is running

out we know it's like First of all they say time

is running out and then they don't actually tell

us how much time that it says he doesn't have

long or something like like i was saying earlier

i kind of like that they don't make it specific

but yet they then go back and say hey uh time's

running out let's let's kick it into high gear

here um oh god and the in the ending when when

he man arrives tila's like he man has arrived

yes tila we know we we we can hear the you know

We can hear the wind Raider or we can hear that

he man has arrived or we can you know You're

very you cannot find anything good to say about

that woman No Not not this version of her. No

other versions Possibly give her a chance the

seasons where we got over half the show to go.

Maybe she'll redeem herself Anything else low

light wise as far as the remedy goes No. Alright,

well let's see what kind of awards and rankings

maybe we can get a ranking above a one for Mike

on this one. We'll see. Go back! I've come on

a mission of mercy. I can't go back without the

Vimward. It seems your mission has failed me.

Please, I must get by. You mortals have never

respected ancient ways, and now you come to us

for help? I've always respected the ways of the

ancients, but I thought the ancients respected

the value of life. My time is short, I must have

the Vimward. Do what is enough to pay for it.

If kneeling and begging is what you want, there's

no shame in doing so. I beg of you to help me

save another's life. I can't force myself against

you. I can only ask for your help. Rise, He -Man.

What you ask for is just. Your quest will not

be denied. Take this branch of Inward. And let

its healing power do its work. Alright, for the

last time today we're handing out power swords

and Havoc staffs. I only have one thing to give

out and that would be a power sword to the man

who saved the life. I'll give a power sword to

He -Man. I thought it was cool seeing him go

through all the different obstacles. I'm glad

he found a different place to store some things

within his wardrobe. You know, he fought a bunch

of different stuff and he came out successful,

so power sword to He -Man. What about you? I'm

gonna give a power sword to He -Man and Man -at

-Arms because both of them really, really shined

in this episode. You know, you got Man -at -Arms

taking, you know, looking after his friend and

stuff like that. I really like that. And like

you said with He -Man, even though the time doesn't

match up with when the guy should have perished,

but, you know, going through all the obstacles

and succeeding, I really did like that, so. All

right, drum roll, please. Can we get... Is there

a chance today that Mike has liked an episode

more than a one orco radian I am predicting?

Yes. What are you saying? Three out of five.

Three out of five. It's not great, but it's better

than one. I might... I'll put it this way. This

episode is better than the other two combined.

We will have to agree to disagree, but I will

again give an episode a higher rating than you,

and I will give this one a four out of five Battle

Cats. I liked all the different obstacles they

went through. I liked the backstory with a man

at arms. I liked He -Man's execution. I mean,

there was a few little audio visual errors, like

I said, but other than that, not too bad. So

I'm going to give it a confident four out of

five. So. we are going to take a quick break

then we will reflect on these three episodes

and we will reflect on the closing moments of

season one and what we are looking to as we end

the season and i'm sure mike will be on a soapbox

at some point so uh If you want to hear that,

stick with us for after this commercial break.

They're your two best friends. Your mother and

your father. Well, if anything, today we learned

during the powers of Grayskull that Mike is...

very much... Poisoned by the we need some Vim

wood to cure my From his from his disease of

not appreciating decent episodes I myself and

about a four and a half a four and a two and

a half You handed out a three a one and a one

What is the dealio? Just and it wasn't even the

fact that like like I said before in other episodes

of this show Sometimes I pay attention to the

writing credits when watching the episodes a

lot of the times I don't and I didn't even really

realize that it was Paul Dini and Larry to tell

you on the first two I just think they're really

piss -poor episodes in my opinion I didn't care

for them at all one or two items that were really

enjoyable, but the rest of it just and and again

It's you know as far as overall thoughts on the

series at this point bring me the evil warriors

damn it That's we see we were we were earlier

like if you'd wanted to trace back like 10 to

15 episodes When we're doing our overall reactions,

it was a lot of we want to see new characters,

you know We want to see backstory we want to

see some new evil words Or we want to see some

new masters or some some new blood or we want

to see more in -depth on the current ones We

did not realizing that we didn't realize that

through our requests to see more than just the

standard evil warriors that the evil warriors

would just run away from us and Yeah, and just

disappear altogether, but that's definitely the

theme of the last about ten episodes going forward

here And like we said, there's only eight episodes

left in season one I don't know if there was

a if it was a conscious decision at this point

by the people at Filmation by the writers by

the toy, you know involved the toy company or

if it was just they were out of story they felt

they were out of storylines with the with evil

warriors and they weren't able to introduce any

new ones until season two i don't know what's

going on hopefully we'll see that as we close

out these eight episodes and then see if you

know right away in season two if there's a shift

in the storytelling or what but it's going to

be interesting to see the next about 15 episodes

how how that plays out in the last eight of season

one going into the first seven or eight of season

two Might open some some eyes as to what was

going on behind the scenes a little bit But uh,

but yeah, I thought I thought Ponce of the Game

Master was one of the best episodes of season

one With a four and a half rating and I thought

the remedy was decent You know, I can somewhat

agree with the Huntsman. It was just kind of

an episode that just seemed like it was there

But I didn't think these were terrible episodes

if we have to have episodes without the evil

warriors I thought some of these were decent

episodes Any last thoughts on the series or the

today's episodes besides that you're insane Evil

warriors evil words evil words send them to him.
