Powers of Grayskull
Masks of Power, Ordeal in the Darklands, City Beneath the

About this Episode
and the Masters of the Universe! I am Adam, Prince
of Eternia and defender of the secrets of Castle
Grayskull. This is Cringer, my fearless friend.
Fabulous secret powers were revealed to me the
day I held aloft my magic sword and said, By
the power of Grayskull! became the mighty Battle
Cat, and I became He -Man, the most powerful
man in the universe. Only three others share
this secret. Our friends, the Sorceress, Planet
Arms, and Orko. Together, we defend Castle Grayskull
from the evil forces of Skeletor. I command you
to bow to us! I bow to no one! Actually, there's
some guy in Korea that names himself optimus
solo on Facebook, but anyway I'm the one and
only Anyways, are you ready to continue on with
the powers of grayskull always am? Yes We are
About a month and a half away before the DC the
new DC ongoing starts in comics. So that's that's
pretty cool Alright, in this episode of Tales
of Eternia we'll be giving you our thoughts on
episode 34, Masks of Power, episode 35, Ordeal
in the Darklands, and episode 36, City Beneath
the Sea. So we hope you're ready, because it's
time to go back to Eternia. the city of the ancients
has been lost for centuries it was but prince
adam just found it for us first up today is masks
of power take it away plot man thursday october
20th 1983 mask of power airs written by our friend
quote unquote doug booth Plot goes something
like this. As Prince Adam, Man -at -Arms, and
Orko discover the City of the Ancients, Eren
and Una arrive at Snake Mountain wishing to prove
their worth to Skeletor. Skeletor sends the pair
to the City of the Ancients in order to collect
the mysterious power mask of Deimos and Torella.
When Eren and Una take the mask for themselves,
the physical forms of Deimos and Torella gain
possession of their bodies as the two evil beings
seek out the Sword of the Ancients. He -Man and
his friends must race against time in order to
stop them from achieving their goal. So for bad
characters we have Skeletor and the before -mentioned
new people to the episode, and for the Masters
we have He -Man, Orko, Man -At -Arms, and an
appearance by the Sorceress as well. The PSA
is about admitting when you're wrong. It's kind
of given to us by Tila and Orko, who weren't
in the episode otherwise. Thoughts on this mask?
Wait You were gonna say on this mask episode,
right? No, I was gonna make some type of mask
reference and I thought that was something that
I should not do. Oh Before the real mask of power
we had these masks of power. Yes This episode.
Oh my god. The only thing I liked about this
episode is Skeletor's different reactions he
has and I like the fact that There is a sword
somewhere on Eternia that rivals the power the
the sword of powers own power The sword of the
ancients in comparison with the power sword that
is probably like I'm agreeing. That's one of
the only highlights of this episode Yeah, like
I like to see that I don't know how I felt about
how everything they did with this two swords,
etc but I do like to there be an idea of like
Other high ranking swords out there or weapons
like it's not just a power sword There's other
weapons in the universe that have different levels
of power All right One of the reasons why I really
hate this episode is because you have the Wonder
Twins minus Gleek Those I swear to God those
two characters they look just like xam and jayner
whatever the hell the wonder twins names are
i was just waiting for wonder twins powers activator
whatever the hell the stupid thing is i just
think this was just a little bit as far as plot
goes it's a little twisted i mean you have these
two random people we don't really know where
they came from we don't know what their purposes
or why they're doing what they're doing they
seem to want power they're going to skeletor
then they're getting possessed by these other
two people who have this historic legacy of being
bad but at one point they say that they weren't
really ever real people and the writing is very
like convoluted and confusing like it doesn't
all go together and then of course we have Doug
Booth doing some things with characters apparently
he still knows nothing about that we'll get to
later yeah I hope to God this guy is still not
writing episodes of animation today. He had been
up until a little bit ago at least I know and
that's funny because I swear people say that
I think I want to say back in the day when I
was much more Active member in the Transformers
community before they all pissed me off That
there's a good portion of Transformers fans that
really like him With episodes like a Decepticon
Raider in King Arthur's Court, I have no idea
why. Yeah, and I remember seeing him on DVDs
or on special features talking about stuff and
it was just like, I don't know. I can't remember
which one I like less, Doug Booth or Glut. Donald
F. Glutt, you know. I can't remember which one
really pissed me off on one of those special
features. I'd have to re -look, but one of them
had absolutely no liking, respect, or anything
for the franchise he was involved with. Basically
just doing it to get a paycheck. Yeah, that sucks.
As far as the PSA, it's a good PSA to learn.
You know, it's a good lesson for kids. Yeah,
it was connected to the episode, so I didn't
mind it too much. Any other thoughts on the plot?
Just too convoluted, not well written, not the
greatest plot. Nope. So we are going to head
to Grayskull. So we have entered the Hallowed
Halls of Castle Grayskull. I've got a couple
of things here. We both agree that you have to
love Skeletor at any point in time, anything
he does, between the cackling and the, where
are my evil warriors? So very funny and awesome.
Seeing Orko quote -unquote walk is very interesting
weird and creepy all at the same time But I still
like see it was a it was one of those. Did you
notice that I missed it? It's it's after it's
after the scene where Skeletor is like where
are my evil wires? Yeah It's he The problem I
don't know if it's with the animation or the
writing or what it is with this series they can
never like Places orco should float and shouldn't
float like they get those mixed up all of the
time like orco got I think it was last episode
orgo got knocked down and He was like hell if
I'm falling Like he knocked down a crevice or
off a cliff or he got knocked down off of something
and hell I'm falling. It's really you can float
you dummy jish, but there's a scene I'll see
if I can I'll see if I can go back and grab it
with the with a picture but there's a scene where
you see his his cloak on the ground and you see
what's something it's supposed to look like legs
that he's actually walking on the ground it's
very i liked it i thought it was interesting
but it was very weird and creepy hey man's got
jokes this episode wanna arm wrestle Yeah, I
don't know if it was viable or believable that
he actually won that match but It's nice to know
as I said before that next to the sort of power
There is another sword just as powerful that
has nothing to do with the twin sister. Oh wait
whoops. I'm jumping ahead No shakes fist in the
air Skeletor what do you get for this one uh...
couple things like i know that i was talking
about uh... the fact that this basically better
and there is a few pieces in here that has uh...
decent dialogue though one of them was the one
you mentioned before i really kind of thought
it was funny at the beginning of skeletor was
like my evil warriors are never around when i
need them uh... just that whole Tyra that he
was going on was funny. I Found it somewhat funny.
I don't know that they just keep referring to
that one lady as his witch queen Like what kind
of like that's like, I don't know. It's not very
nice way to refer to anybody. It's like Demos
and his witch queen. I just see her in the background
I thought it was a funny thing when they were
seeing the right before Deimos and Torella are
near the sort of the ancients they say something
about Behold or something like that and he man
walks in he's like beholden is all you're gonna
do Yeah, that's kind of a clever play on the
word. So there's a couple interesting dialogue
things that were okay in there I don't mind the
fact that again that we're dealing with some
type of historical aspect or legendary history
of Eternia. I mean, I don't like what they did
with it, but I don't mind them exploring the
history of the universe there. I just wish they
would do a decent job with it for once. And I
didn't mind the intense monster that He -Man
was arm wrestling. That was a pretty ferocious,
large... beast. You know, I guess it's just your
typical non -speaking giant beast that we've
seen over and over and over again. But I didn't
mind this one as far as design goes and just
as pure like size and epicness. But that's about
all I can come up with for this episode. Let's
head on down the waterfall of snake mountain
So we have swam up the waterfall and I've entered
snake mountain What do you got? I got a slight
problem with them setting up the City of the
Ancients as this city that's been unlocatable
for centuries. It's been lost to time and no
one can find it. And Prince Adam really had no
issue finding it whatsoever. There was no tricks.
There was no traps. There was just basically
walk through a forest, deal with some crazy things
in the forest, and when you get to the other
side, there's the city. Yeah. So I don't quite
understand how it was so lost for so long Especially
with as many flying beings as we have that could
bypass all the dangers of the forest anyway I
thought it was weird that man -at -arms referred
to orco as being like As being just a normal
alien. Yeah I call that bad writing because Alien
Shouldn't be a term being used in this universe,
in my opinion. To me, that's an Earth term that
we use to describe anything that's not of Earth.
So it's weird. I don't buy that it's an Eternian
term that deals with someone that's not from
Eternia. I don't know. And to call orco an alien
just seemed weird to me. We've got beings and
creatures and different... I guess you can call
them whatever, races or, you know, beans of all
kinds of sorts. So this is the first time in
the series I've heard someone referred to as
an alien and it kind of just struck me as weird.
Again, another example of Doug Booth. I'm assuming
he just doesn't watch any of the shows or doesn't
read anything about what's done with the characters
before he writes his episodes or he just doesn't
care. When did Skeletor get a robot bird? He's
never had a robot bird before Well, he doesn't
need a robot bird. First of all, he can see wherever
he wants to see he's got that thing in his lair
magic crystal ball He can see anywhere on Eternia
That's true doesn't need a robot bird and the
worst part about the episode I Should make a
list of times where this type of thing has happened
where like robots cry or swords speak The sword
of ancients spoke Oh my god, I completely missed
that it glowed yellow it hovered and it spoke
I Like there being a sword of ancients I like
there being a weapon that can rival the power
sword. I do not need such weapon to talk to me
Yeah, we didn't need a singing sword from a Bugs
Bunny cartoon or singing sword from Roger Rabbit.
It just made me At that moment, I was like, this
episode's retarded. All right. For me, I've got
four semi big ones. If Adam is in the next room,
wouldn't he have heard the crashing of the boulder
as they go underground? Come on, they would have
been caught instantly. They say, but Prince Adam
is in the next room. And then they throw a boulder
down to get below the room that they're in. Adam
would have heard somebody, Adam. Whatever. Someone
would have heard that. Yeah. Well, I like Adam's
initiative. It isn't quite out of character for
him to have a tone similar to He -Man, granted.
No, wait a second. I'm reading that wrong. Well,
I like Adam's initiative. Isn't it quite out
of character for him to have a tone similar to
He -Man? Granted, it's not the deep booming tone,
but he did get all assertive there. His voice,
John Irwin, changed the inflection just a little
bit as he was still Prince Adam, and it wasn't
the full -on He -Man voice, but it was somewhere
in the middle of the two. I'm not sure if I really
cared for it. I know Adam and Duncan have to
slide down the rope, but Orko can float, dammit!
He does not need a fucking rope! Or a regular
rope. Fucking Doug Booth, oh my god. It was foretold
that the Sword of the Agents would join with
another. Really? But He -Man Sword looks no different!
Yeah, there's nothing special that happened when
they formed together I was hoping it would have
some type of like glow or a different shape or
form or different power of some sort But we really
got even be slightly larger or or like whether
it's in height or or width Something that it
would change the outward appearance of it. I
just thought it was a fail what they did this
There's a lot of potential when we introduce
this sort of ancients, etc Etc and the myth behind
it and joining with others and it just had all
this potential that they just failed with Yeah,
they didn't do anything cool with it. No, no,
it's what just it's just formed together forever
now. So now humans always Can it around a stronger
sword? We just leveled up. I guess what is this
a freaking RPG? Yeah What are you doing? Did
he do give the sword some Viagra? All right,
let's move on to the awards ceremony Just as
the sorceress warned, the poor fools have been
possessed by the spirits of Deimos and his witch
queen. So it is time to hand out some awards.
First of all, Havoc staff to Doug Booth. Dude,
you need to learn how to write. Skeletor gets
a power sword for his comedy bits. For all of
his funny lines, I like that. What about you
for... As bad as this episode is, I'm not giving
a Havoc staff to anybody. I am in agreement though,
even though he kind of got owned by Deimos and
the Witch Queen, I really enjoyed Skeletor's
bits in this, his scenes, his lines, everything,
so a power sword to Skeletor, I'm in agreement
with that. I was debating whether this was gonna
be a goose or a one, and it turns out to be a
one out of five orcos for me. The only reason
why it's even getting a one out of five is because
Skeletor's humor slightly saved it. The rest
of the episode is just lazy writing, just inserting
stuff that should never be there, just horrible,
horrible, horrible. What about you? It's not
the worst episode I've seen so far. And then
as far from the best episode I've seen I settled
in on a two. Two cats for this time. You're away
for a few days. Now is my chance to conquer all
of Eternia, for myself! He -Man will stop you.
Oh, you think so? I could be mistaken. No! You're
right! He -Man would stop me, unless someone
stopped him first! Don't look at me! Don't worry,
coward! I have someone else in mind. Kor, the
sorcerer. I've heard of him. He is one of the
most powerful in all Eternia. The keeper of the
Crimson Scourge. Kor is a peaceful man. He would
never fight He -Man. He would if I can trick
him into believing He -Man has taken his daughter.
Come. We have no time to lose. Where are we going?
to the dark lands. Up next is ordeal in the dark
lands. Take it away plot man. So to end our week
back in friday october 21st 1983 we sat around
the tv and were treated to ordeal in the dark
lands written by mark scott zacree who we've
seen before. So this is at the end of the week
episode the plot goes something like this with
Skeletor away Evil Lin and triclops hatch a plot
in order to have human captured so that they
may attack Eternia without interference The pair
trick core into believing that he man and man
-in -arms have kidnapped his daughter Korra imprisons
He -Man in the large prison that holds the Crimson
Scourge, a large creature that once caused destruction
on Eternia. And as He -Man fights to stay alive,
Tila and Orko rush to Snake Mountain in order
to save Korra's daughter. Just as the family
is reunited, He -Man unavoidably frees the Crimson
Scourge while trying to escape. And they must
deal with the Crimson Scourge to end the episode.
So for bad guys, we have a difference here because
there is no Skeletor, but there are some evil
warriors. We got Evil Lin and Triclops. And for
the good guys, Tila, Orko, He -Man, Man -at -Arms,
the Reg. And our PSA was Tila and Man -At -Arms
talking about listening to your parents, that
when they say no, they have a reason to respect
that, etc. A couple things on this plot here.
First of all, I appreciate the idea of having
a plot that starts with Skeletor away for some
reason. Now, they don't go into why Skeletor
is away specifically or what exactly he's doing.
But we do get the gist that he is away on some
type of business Yeah, um, so I like that They
mentioned kind of set that up and that it's evil
and in triclops that are left kind of in charge
of snake mountain And that of course that they're
going to come up with their own plot I I like
this setup of the episode because it's something
somewhat different from what we've seen I mean
we haven't seen this every episode like some
other plots Um, so I like that the evil warriors
are the ones coming up with the idea of what
to do And I like that their idea is, look, we've
had a shit -ton of problems completing our things
because of He -Man. Well, we also are obviously
incapable of stopping He -Man, so we need somebody
else to do that part, get He -Man out of the
picture, and then we'll have success with all
our other evil doings. So that's a thing that
makes sense to me. I can buy the evil warriors
coming up with that idea, like... We need to
get this guy out of the picture. We can't do
it. Someone else needs to do it. So let's set
this up. So I appreciate that. And I appreciate
seeing another side of Eternia with Core and
this whole history of this crimson scourge that
used to wreak havoc on Eternia. And now every
so often, a new person gets kind of put in charge
of keeping the crimson scourge at bay. I'm all
on board with that. So I really don't mind the
plot and then we have instead of evil in just
disguising herself we have her basically putting
up an optical illusion and showing core so we
have the whole angle of The trickery there that
he's seen he man and man -at -arms Kidnap his
daughter when in reality it was triclops and
evil in and the whole how do we? Convince core
that that's what happened to set her so I like
this plot Yeah I like the plot. I don't like
a lot of the stuff that happened in the episode.
We'll get to that when we get to Snake Mountain,
but the general plot, I agree with you. It's
a really good plot, but just some of the executions,
some of the lines, some of the writing is just
so bad. I'm interested to see what these are.
So bad. It's the usual, but you'll see when you
see it. The PSA... Guess it's a Good lesson.
Yeah, I thought they were gonna go somewhere
else with that Yeah It seemed like there was
I'll get to it in a little bit, but it seemed
like there was a built -in PSA that they didn't
use So we'll get to that a little bit later,
but I have some more comments on the PSA later
Okay. All right. So let's head to gray skull
in and bring a bag or a barrel or something because
i got a lot of stuff that we're gonna unload
at castle gray skull but i've got to find out
if i can count on my skills in the jungle i'm
thinking about going to the dark lands to see
how i can get along by myself for a few days
so we have entered castle gray skull yay a triclops
episode oh an evil warriors plot with main bad
guys but no skeletor that's interesting hey look
millennium falcon battle droid with a woman Dude
I it it's You take Luke Skywalker animate him
and put him in Tila's place. It's Star Wars all
over again What's funny that you mentioned that
I like that but it was I was like, where have
I seen this before? Such a witchcraft Evelyn
is awesome. I love her scenes. I love when she's
not doing the disguise thing when she's just
herself I love her scenes. Yeah, I always even
as a kid. I loved Evelyn Hey look, Star Wars
chest. You better let the Wookie win. Some of
our notes are identical. Yes. So Tila's clothing
is a secret weapon, huh? That's kind of bordering
on Snake Mountain there, but I thought that was
kind of funny, more so not necessarily good.
It was just kind of funny and awkward to me.
What about you? What do you like about this?
First of all, the things that you said already.
The Star Wars chest game, that was kind of funny.
The training exercise with Teela, I mean Luke
Skywalker. We just keep getting the Star Wars
connections in this series, which I don't mind,
but it's just like they're so obvious. Especially
in this episode. I thought there was some cool
scenery. Obviously Mark or Zickery or whatever
was a Star Wars fan. There was some cool scenery
shots. There's one especially at the beginning
of snake mountain and the waterfall from kind
of a side angle somewhat And I thought it was
one of the first times that we've seen snake
mountain in all its glory From somewhat of a
close -up angle, but where you can still see
everything. So I thought that was really cool
I thought it was funny because you know shows
like this You know, this one is what prime example
that always gets made fun of of like a stock
footage and whatnot but it was almost like a
joke inside a joke because when Evil Lin changes
the scene for what Kor is going to see, it's
like Evil Lin is taking advantage of the stock
animation and making Kor think that He -Man did
this. I've liked Kor as a character. I thought
he had a cool looking design. I thought it was
a cool variation of Skeletor's voice being used.
Just kind of got a cool feel and a cool vibe
from core. He's kind of like this independent,
but you believed how respected he was you believed
how powerful a man he kind of was and why he
was given the responsibility of guarding the
red scourge and Yet he was not a hundred percent
Like good or bad. He's his own person So I kind
of I kind of enjoyed him as a character Again,
I thought it was a clever clever plot by Evelyn
You know, we've seen her do the disguise a lot.
We've seen her do lots of tricks like that I
up to this point can't remember a time where
she has Almost edited the video footage to fool
somebody in that way I thought the lizard men
looked decent And to me, what's important when
you're introducing, because every episode almost,
introduces some type of creature, alien race,
some being or animal or something. And sometimes
they don't fit the Eternia universe. Like sometimes
they just don't look like they belong. It's a
tale of two cities. And like the rock people.
Yes. But these lizard guys that core has to me
a hundred percent fit in Like you could almost
picture one of the lizard guys eventually being
a main character of sorts Like whether it be
a master or an evil warrior or something like
that Like if there was one that was like kind
of stood out like oh, let me ask you this Do
you think this this lizard men thing here? a
test for what we'll get later with the snake
men and Cobra Khan or it could have been something
they looked back at kind of the designs for this
and saw that that kind of worked but it just
was a race of people or whatever I keep using
race even though that's incorrect but it was
a race of people that I bought that I thought
fit into the Eternia style so I appreciate that
I thought he may had a funny line I like getting
a tan but this is ridiculous yeah that was funny
to be in a kid's cartoon way before tanning was
popular He man Going against somewhat of a worthy
foe is always nice to see and in this case a
foe he couldn't beat At first, you know, basically
when when they're inside when they're trapped
inside he is just trying to survive long enough
He's just trying to hold him off. He is not beating
him You know, it's not till they're outside and
he kind of gets lucky and finds the weakness
or whatever But for a long time, it's like he's
just has to keep him at bay. He can't use his
power just to beat this guy I thought there was
a cool connection where you know, originally
they were talking about Tila was talking about
getting to this place through an underground
river and I thought that it was cool that it
kind of came full circle at the end and they
use the knowledge of the underground river to
beat the Red Scourge You know, I don't know if
it was executed perfectly But I like the connection
between just a mention of this river at the beginning
of the episode and then using it at the end As
a kid, you're like, oh, yeah, I remember when
she said something about that or whatever A couple
more things. There was almost like a double PSA
connection with both Cor and Tila. Like I literally
thought that the PSA was built into the episode
and I'm like, well, when we get to the actual
PSA at the end of the episode, they're going
to be talking about things that have happened
with Cor and Tila in the episode and lessons
that they've learned. And then they didn't do
that. No, they went to a PSA that was completely
unrelated to that for the most part So I thought
that was kind of weird but I guess it was cool
that you kind of got a multiple lessons in the
level or in the episode I mean So I appreciated
that and the lastly Okay, don't confuse this
because I hate Tila And I hate Tila in this episode
Especially in the first half of the episode But
I appreciate that this episode, to me, did a
good job truly developing her character and her
abilities. It highlights her. He -Man is trapped
with the red scourge. you know, a man -at -arms
not gonna be of use or whatever, and it's up
to Tila then to take it upon herself to go figure
things out so that she can somewhat save the
day and she can prove herself. Like, she goes
out on this journey because she wants to prove
her abilities, which was messed up and we'll
get to that in a minute. But her whole goal in
this episode was to prove her worth and her ability.
Even though it's not the way she wanted to do
it, the episode does do a good job showing her
actual abilities. Showing her come through and
file through and do something right to prove
herself and to develop her character I thought
she could have struggled a little bit more when
she went to snake mount. It was basically pretty
easy for She went in and got the girl and they
left basically So I thought that could have been
drawn out a little bit more that would have made
made it more Believable that you know that she's
really proving herself But I did appreciate that
the episode attempted to show that she was just
more than just the second and you know the guard
Commander whatever you want to call her That
she actually Had some worth so I kind of like
that development in this episode even though
I hate Tila as a character What have you come
to tell me of my daughter woman not tell you
show you look into my magic crystal you Was he
man and man at arms it can't be it's true. They
are your enemies He man isn't evil. Why would
he take my daughter? I have no idea, but he has
done it and you must save her We have parked
the Wind Raider without whistling for it What
what didn't you like about the episode since
I was just talking about Tila in that last segment?
Let's just start with her It's one of my pet
peeves. Whether it be a cartoon, a live action
series, a movie, whatever, I don't care. I absolutely
hate it when a character is told specifically
to not go somewhere or to stay put or to do this
and they just completely disregard it. No, I
can understand when it's a rebellious kid or
teenager that they're not listening to or whatever
But like it happened all the time in MacGyver
and MacGyver would be like stay right here when
MacGyver tells you to do something you fucking
do it And it arms specifically told her not to
go to the dark lands and she gets to the line
of dialogue I'm sick of people telling me what
I can and can't do When has that ever happened?
When has anyone told Tila what she can and can't
do? First of all, no, I don't remember it happening
very often where she could have the grounds for
throwing this little hissy fit Yeah to your father
and the main Like mind behind all of eternity
all of eternity's defenses basically who has
knowledge of this world that you couldn't even
fathom Tells you not to go to the dark lands
You don't go to the dark lands then Why am I
flashing to You must never never go to the elephant
graveyard Simba Yeah, it's just like always happens
in literature and shows or whatever It's like
let's foreshadow this by telling someone not
to go somewhere even though everyone knows that
person's gonna go there now like but this one
it just bugs me when Tila does it because and
Lastly also about Tila now. I always knew she
was manly How many things does she truly have
under those clothes? All right, she's got pulling
stuff out from under those clothes and I can
only imagine what else she's hiding All right,
Tila stop being a whiny bitch Tila stop being
a spoiled brat Come on orko, you know, you should
have told someone even though I know orko is
thinking that he can do the job He should have
told on it. He should have told an adult that
she had went to the dark lands May Linda Gary
rest in peace, but the crying sound she made
When she was caught is just weird. It sounded
like a cross between a cry and pain and then
a moan of pleasure It was just it was such a
weird vocal just so weird um so when tila frees
the daughter where the hell is evil in the entire
time she wouldn't just leave sleeping triclops
to guard her and the father what the hell it
takes nearly all episode for him to believe them
oh putting his hand okay he man how can he man
putting his hands in the water directs it towards
the scourge i call bullshit i know he's the most
powerful man in the universe but seriously he
is able to control that that force of water to
aim it precisely at the... fuck that noise that's
so fucking stupid and lame this episode while
it teaches a good lesson listening to your parents
it was just so infuriating oh my god i hate this
episode i don't understand i cannot stand this
episode Alright, so let's get to some awards,
I guess, unless you want to rebut any of my...
I just don't understand where your hatred is
coming from. It's Tila, man. She's just such
a bitch. Let's go in and get to the awards. Alright,
it is a wards time. Okay. Havoc staff for Tila
and for Kro or Kron or whatever the wizard, what's
his name? Kor? Whatever the hell his name is.
Neither one of them listen to what others are
trying to tell them. Havoc staffs for both of
them. What about you, anything? I give Havoc
Saffortila just for going to the Darklands in
the first place, even though I do think she somewhat
redeems herself later on in the episode. And
we do get a little character development there.
She's still stupid for being a whiny bitch and
going there in the first place. Power Sword for
Korr, because I liked his character. I could
understand why he was confused. He saw with his
own eyes what he thought was to be the truth,
and he reacted like most people would react.
And I just liked his voice, his design, his everything
about him, actually. I like Korr, so Power Sword
for him. okay what about battle cats for this
one I'm baffled I'm absolutely baffled by you
I don't understand your hatred for this episode
I don't understand why you have a problem with
it to me I love the plot of Skeletor being away
and Evelyn and Triclapse getting an episode for
themselves. We didn't really talk too much about
Triclapse, but they're both heavily involved
in the whole plan. I thought it was a cool plan.
I like to see this other part of Eternia with
Kor and the Crimson Scourge. I like that He -Man
was somewhat captured and someone else had to
basically figure out, and I kind of like the
paradox that Tila initially... wrongfully went
to try to prove her abilities, but unintentionally
does prove her abilities in the end by saving
the core's daughter. I thought real long and
hard about giving this episode a five out of
five, but instead I gave it a four and a half
out of five. Okay. The only thing that saves
this episode from a goose egg is the fact that
as you just said, you love that it's Evil and
and and triclops. Yes. I like that. I like that
part of the plot I like that they are actually
showing initiative and doing Something while
Skeletor is away. So yeah one out of five other
than that Tila just ruins this episode was by
far by far better than mask of power in every
freaking way and You're ranking them as equals
Pretty much. Yeah, you're so wrong and the people
will tell you you're wrong Anyways, let's move
on to the last episode for today. And that's
the sixth ship to disappear in the last two weeks.
There's been no trace of them. Not even a single
piece of wood, Your Majesty. It's a real mystery.
And now all the other ships are afraid to sail.
What do you think about all this, Duncan? Well,
sire... There've been no storms and... Considering
the area in question... What in the name of the
ancients? It's your fault, huh? Gotcha! The only
thing you've got is trouble. Father, I was just,
uh... Adam, if you must carry on like a clown,
please do it elsewhere. You're interrupting important
business. Your Majesty, I'm sure he didn't mean
to... No excuses! I'm sure you must have something
better to do. Yes, sir. Then do it and let us
get on with protecting the kingdom. Man it on!
Coming, Sire. Don't take it too hard, Adam. These
ship disappearances have got him worried. Ships
disappearing? Where? I'll tell you later. And
finally of today is City Beneath the Sea. Take
it away plot man. So this was the beginning of
our new week, Monday, October 24th, 1983. This
is how we start our week with City Beneath the
Sea written by Larry DiTillio. In order to learn
how Eternia and ships have been mysteriously
vanishing from the seas of Eternia, Prince Adam,
Man in Arms, and Cringer board a ship. They soon
spot an underwater city that begins creating
a whirlpool. The whirlpool pulls them underwater.
where they find themselves inside the ancient
kingdom of Aquatica. The heroes are shocked when
Merman appears before them. I called it a Merman
episode, yay! Seemingly as ruler of Aquatica,
they soon realize that Merman is in possession
of the Pearl of Power, and with it appears to
be unstoppable. Our only bad character in this
episode is Merman. Masters, as I mentioned, are
Man -at -Arms, the Cat, and He -Man, with a brief
appearance by King Randor. And the PSA comes
from Orko in Man -at -Arms, don't judge a book
by its cover. So, we are in a new environment
in the sea, plot -wise, and we're basically getting
a completely, an episode completely dedicated
to Merman and the people of Aquatica and their
distrust for the land dwellers. And basically,
they've been stealing, creating whirlpools and
stealing ships and whatnot and eventually Captured
he man and have to deal with the aquatic aquatic
ins aquatic people Learning how to trust he man
and the other earth dwellers Eternian dwellers,
excuse me. Yes. So what do you think about the
merman plot? The whole time I was writing my
I guess I kept seeing near Gill in my is in my
head for some stupid reason i know it's a merman
episode but i kept wanting to call it sub atlantica
or anything but what it was anything that had
to do with atlantis except what the actual title
of of of the city is a role of the places i like
this episode i like the plot i think it's interesting
god yeah i agree that i'm gonna grinch this episode
shut the hell up well the good thing about this
episode is tila is barely there so that's that's
yeah So, um, no, I think this is a great plot.
It's your average Atlantis plot. It really isn't
when you boil it down. Um, I was halfway waiting
for Aquaman to come in and save the day. He'd
be useless as usual. But I like that it's Merman.
I like that it's Basically merman off on his
own. This is kind of goes back to what when Skeletor
said where are all of my evil warriors? He's
been hiding out. Yeah, apparently so Yeah, I
like to I thought the PSA went well with it I
don't really have too many complaints plot wise
about this I mean it seemed somewhat strange
to be on the sea and have these like Pretty high
-tech looking ships and whatnot just cuz we haven't
seen that before but I don't have a problem with
it It just kind of looked at it first Yeah Alright,
let's head on over to a watery gray skull. Oh,
there's nothing there but little dots. Well,
that's just an image, Cringer. It only shows
us where the fish are. Some invention. Call me
when you've got something that catches fish.
Cringer thinks with his stomach. So I've noticed.
You think whatever's causing ships to vanish...
comes from below the sea yes and with this ship
is bait and my sonoscope i mean to find out who
or what it is a sea voyage would probably do
cringer and me a lot of good so we are in gray
skull um i love uh cringers coming at the camera
movements when chasing the wenches there's this
side angle of cringer It's not the straight -on
like we would normally see with a vehicle or
with He -Man punching the wall But it's like
this it's like this diagonal angle, and I thought
it was really really cool Adam you've got Trubber
Trouble Cringer always thinking with his stomach
well of course I love that Sea voyage, but I
get seasick This might be yet another one of
his of Cringers best episodes. He was just so
awesome in this very very awesome Cringer slash
battle cat Okay, well, but I'm getting to battle
cat, but what I'm saying is up to that point.
They hadn't done the transformation Okay, I thought
he was equally as well in both forms in this
episode Yeah, he is I just haven't gotten to
that. Yeah continue Stop interrupting me you
asshat I love the look on He -Man's face as Battle
Cat roars when Merman is revealed. The look on
He -Man's face is just like, what the fuck is
going on? And Battle Cat's like, I'm ready to
get him, He -Man. Yeah. That was a good look.
Yeah, that picture will be in the post. I do
like that there's an actual plot to the... Atlantica
you see that's what I even wrote Atlantica. I
don't Whatever and it's not just hey, let's do
an Atlantis type thing because it's cool, right?
And I like at the end when I think it was the
daughter somebody said I don't know if it was
a villain or whatever Somebody said nice kitty
to battle cat Yes, exactly, but I know I love
this episode this episode is so great between
merman and battle cat and Cringer and Some of
the stuff that he man does so much better than
the other two episodes when you watch today I
thought that Cringer had some funny moments.
He there's one point where they're Talking about
why he should stay behind and he's like right
absolutely right and then they're like someone
about that He should actually go and he's like
wrong absolutely wrong Just thought it was funny
the timing of him saying it and then basically
just changing it with the word Interesting to
see a sea setting for a change I thought just
like I said like with the lizard people the sea
guards the aquatic ins or whatever we want to
call them Those are legit I thought they fit
right into the universe. Shalindor, they're kind
of their leader in all the aquatic and guards.
I thought they very much looked like they belonged
there. I like how we're getting to the point
where everyone refers to, or at least Hima just
refers to Battle Cat as Cat. He's become too
cool for too many syllables. Those that are cool
with him call him Cat. Was actually as much as
I was expecting to see merman based on the title
of the episode Once we got into it. I mean cuz
he doesn't appear for a good what 15 minutes
Yeah. 10, 15 minutes or whatever. Once the episode
got rolling, I was like, oh, this really doesn't
need to have anything to do with Merman. I think
this is legit. And then I'm like, oh, I thought
the Shalindor was the leader. And then they're
like, oh, you need to see our ruler. So I'm like,
oh, I wonder what the ruler is going to look
like. And then Merman steps out. I was actually
somewhat surprised. Really? I wasn't. I mean,
I knew going in that I expected him to be in
this episode, but I wasn't expecting him to come
in when he did. So I kind of like that. Well,
I was kind of confused at first because I thought
the old guy with the beard was the ruler. Right.
And then he was like, well, our ruler, blah,
blah, blah, blah, blah. And then as soon as he's
just the way he said it, I was like. yeah merman
took over well the reason i didn't think that
is because nobody was acting like the rule was
bad in a way it was like or awful ruler some
like that they're like our ruler and we're doing
this for our ruler everybody's happy with our
ruler uh... so i just wasn't a hundred percent
expecting it now have we or have we not seen
the pearl power before no we saw before was the
uh... pearl of bagu or bagu that's what merman
likes his pearls Apparently so. There's a lot
of oysters to eat. Someone should make him a
pearl necklace. So I was confused on the pearl
thing. I thought we'd seen that before. I thought
that was a great save by Cat. I'm referring to
him as Cat now because we're cool and we're on
that level. But he saved He -Man's life, basically,
with a pretty athletic jump. So good job, Cat.
I appreciate that the princess was not voiced
by Linda Geary. Yes, I'm assuming that was Erica
Shimer Lou's daughter because it did not sound
like his wife No, yeah, I've seen do the Queen
before Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was Erica Shimer
I'm not saying it was like spectacular voice
acting or whatever But it was just a nice pleasant
change to not have Linda Gary voice and the princess
nothing against Linda Gary Yeah It's cool to
see he man and the rest of the group. I guess
man -at -arms swim for a change Yes, I was interested
to see how the animation was gonna look with
that and it was fine So yeah, I mean basically
nothing too awful to say about this episode I
mean, I will have a couple more things that I'll
share in the next location, but overall a pretty
decent episode You know two in a row One for
this week, but yeah. All right. Let's head on
over snake. I think your brains and snake mountain
Messiah, the prince is in your care. What about
me? Isn't anybody gonna take care of me? I may
not be a prince, but I'm the prince's best friend.
You're also a big coward. That's what I do best.
So we are in Snake Mountain. I only have one
thing, and we've talked about this before, that
the transformation scene is for us, the viewer,
But I have to question it yet again while they
are facing the whirlpool. There is no way there'd
be any time to do that and still save Man -At
-Arms. No, I agree. I thought that immediately.
I'm like, that would have taken way too long.
No, yeah, no. Yeah, my things are pretty minor
as well. There was one moment where they, if
they intended to do it, they did it in a way
that made it seem like it was an error. And that's
when they're about to go down in the whirlpool
He -Man goes we're about to go for a swim and
I and there's nothing after that Yeah, like I
don't know if they were intending that he was
talking and then the whirlpool catches them So
we just don't get to hear the rest of that sentence,
but I don't think that's what they were doing
I think there was literally more to that line
that just somehow got cut off in the editing
Yeah, he's basically we're about to go for a
swim and I nothing Yep, so that kind of was weird
to watch typical dumb giant monster overuse a
Lot of times these people like we have a plot
and we have a story going on and it's like oh
Let's pause the action and throw in a unnecessary
big Mute monster that human must battle for something
Yeah, and we'll spend five minutes doing that
until human easily throws him somewhere Which
always means you win and the person is no longer
you you know of any yes And I just sometimes
it's just not necessary So and this is one of
those where I was like a whatever typical big
monster guy that we see in every three episodes
And the only other thing was I really didn't
need as much as I was appreciative of the voice
of the princess Yeah Didn't need her giving us
a play -by -play Explaining the last five minutes
of the episode Yeah, that was a little strange
like I didn't need her to explain what he man
was doing by running around and Moving the guardrail
and you know going against the whirlpool that
would eventually break it etc etc like we can
pick up on that Anybody that saw him going the
one way while the whirlpool merman was using
was going the other way You know was gonna be
able to see that and I forgot to mention but
I did like merman Having the intelligence to
set that trap basically and then to destroy it
so nobody could do anything about it Like he
showed some intelligence side to him throughout
this episode, which you know, sometimes I think
you know You see him alongside some of the dumber
evil warriors and you forget that he's actually
one of the smarter ones As much as he seems dumb
sometimes but uh, yeah, so I just didn't need
the play -by -play with the princess explaining
what was happening. I could figure that out.
I think kids could figure that out. But it was
just a minor nitpick. All right, let's head to
the awards section as He -Man Godandi hold. Volunteering
to go with man -at -arms does you credit, son.
Thank you, father. But I'm afraid it's much too
dangerous. Right. Absolutely right. I think a
prince should be ready to face danger to protect
the kingdom. Wrong! Absolutely wrong! Alright,
so it is time to hand out some hardware. You
got anything? Yeah, um, I'm gonna stay positive
with this one. No Havoc staffs, you can put those
away, but I do have to give out two power swords.
It should be obvious because people probably
know that I like this character, but so anytime
we get an episode devoted to him, I'm probably
gonna reward him unless he's really retarded,
so a power sword's a merman. I appreciated him,
his whole plot, his execution for the most part,
his intelligence. I liked Merman in this episode,
and since we're buds now, I'm giving a power
sword to Cat, because I thought he saved He -Man's
life, had some funny lines. I appreciate the
Cat. I'm going to give a power sword to Merman
as well for the same reasons, and I'm going to
give a power sword to Cringer slash Battle Cat
as well. Both damn it the same same person What's
your rating for this one? Um, you know, I really
appreciated this episode I thought after the
first one which was kind of a doozy We got two
very solid episodes that I really enjoyed they
both rank very high on my episode rankings this
one just slightly under or deal in the Badlands,
which I gave a four and a half I give this one
a straight four Yeah, I had two horrid episodes
this week. So this one was just Levels and levels
above it. It gets a five perfect episode Yeah,
five orcos the plot was well executed There weren't
too many, you know horrible villain screw -up
moments. Like you said, you know There's a I
only wrote down one thing that I didn't like
which we both agree on about the transformation
and the transformation we've agreed pretty much
on most of the time on that anyway when shit
like that happens. Like when they do it in a
time when you think there's no way in hell they
can do that and do other things. So yeah, five
out of five. I have no problem with you giving
the first episode a one. Even though I gave it
a two, you know, it's terrible. And although
I don't see this as a perfect episode and a five
rating, but I don't have a problem. I gave it
a four or so. I mean, we both agree it's a solid
episode, but you are off of your fucking rocker
with Ordeal in the Dark Lands. That's one of
the best episodes we've seen in 36 episodes and
you gave it a fucking one. It's because of Tila.
It's so fucking bad. It's not bad. Get over your
hatred for a character and appreciate the episode
outside of that. It was one of her best episodes,
even though she is a whiny bitch in the beginning.
Alright, um, we're gonna take a commercial break
and come back with our thoughts for the series
so far. We'll be back after this. Instead, they
admitted it. As Eman said, admitting you're wrong
takes courage. But when you do, you've taken
the first big step toward making up for it. Of
course, if you're like me, you never make a mistake.
Or a co. Well, I guess I better disappear. Oops,
I think I made a mistake. Like animation? Come

head on over to itunes or the net or else i will
send you my vehicles to extract your spark and
destroy you yes in today's story the aquaticians
were afraid to trust us because we look different
from them Merman talked them into thinking we
were their enemies and it almost caused great
harm You should never judge a person by the way
he looks but rather by the way he behaves Because
it's what's inside a person that really counts,
right? Oh, you're absolutely right So we are
back thoughts on the series so far, um, you know
I appreciate this series of episodes because
we kind of got a look at Evelyn and Triclops
together. One whole episode. We got a look at
Merman for one whole episode. You know, I didn't
mind some of the plots overall outside of Doug
Booth's writing. So not too much to complain.
We got some character development for Tila. You
know, me and Kat formed a bond. Like where we're
going, you know still I would like some introduction
into some new characters Maybe let's see all
the evil warriors together at some point Instead
of just always one or two of them like a group
fight, you know He's like where all my evil warriors
always are gone. We'll get them all together
and let's see something So yeah, either some
more spotlights on individual characters new
characters or all the characters together would
be cool and we're aware of the ambiguously gay
duo gone I need some Stratos and ramen. That's
funny. Yeah, for me so far... It was completely
crap as far as Tila goes, except for the character
development that they gave her. She still does
not listen to her damn father and it just pisses
me off to no end. That's what makes that episode
so hard. It's true! As far as Merman, that was
awesome. I like that. As far as Evil -In and
Triclops, I like that. Like you, I'm still looking
forward to the new things. Some other evil warriors
or, as you said, maybe some different team -ups.
Maybe instead of Evil -In and Beast -Man or Evil
-In and Triclops, we'll have the introduction
of 2bad or something, somebody else. Right. that
some other like I know a lot of the the other
villains the other heroes come in as as season
one gives way to season two and all that stuff
but like hurry up yeah we're all the same thing
we've had enough episodes to learn about these
characters we need to mix it up a little bit
so thank you for listening to Tales of Eternity

Cass from Illinois hello guys thanks for a great
He -Man podcast I look forward to it every week
I especially can't wait until you get to the
2002 cartoon the sound bits from the shows are
great and they take me back to when I was a kid
I remember finding a UHF channel 23 on my grandma's
TV and seeing He -Man for the first time Sometimes
it looked a little snowy and was black and white
with no color, but I could still sit and watch
the show Thanks for bringing back a lot of great
memories and making my job at a cubicle will
buy a little faster So thank you very much cast
from Illinois. Illinois good people there. Yeah
last episode I gave them all Havoc staffs Yeah,
there was a Was it episode 10 or 11? There was
a clip, remember, at the beginning? Where I said,
have it staffed all Illinoisans? And you're like,
what? Because, I don't know, you said something
pissed me off. You did something like you normally
do. But anyway, you can also leave the show's
feedback on iTunes. Please do this. You can also
rate us on iTunes. Very, very awesome. Which
we actually have a new... Actually, we have two
new iTunes reviews. One, uh... One of the big
He -Man fans, Chris Vint, over across the pond
actually stepped up to the plate and gave us
a review over there where he lives. Obviously
we can't see that in the US store, but he did
screen cap it for me. He says, the title is Take
a Trip Down Memory Lane. If you don't remember
the episodes of He -Man and the Masters of the
Universe, then here is the podcast for you. Great
discussion and much more. So hit subscribe now,
you have the power to do that. iTunes review,
thank you so much. It reads as follows, it is
from JediJP. They have the power, five star review.
It was left on February 12th, 2013. If you love
He -Man and love the 80s classic series, then
you will love this great podcast. I've enjoyed
taking a trip down memory lane with each... And
every episode these guys review TF2 on Mike and
Optima Solo do a great job breaking down all
the good and not so good moments of this filmation
classic cartoon series. I really enjoy the banter
between the two and the different perspectives
they each have. So thank you. Even though he
agrees that I am right most of the time and Mike
is wrong. Shut the hell up. Still different perspectives.
Shut the hell up. A right one and a wrong one.
Shut the hell up. Follow us on Twitter the network

and don't forget to join us in our next adventure
when we will be discussing episodes 37 38 and
39 the defection Tila's trial and the star Wait,
do we even need to watch Tila's trial or are
you just do you already have it marked down as
a one? Have you already ranked that one one out
of five? I'm just asking we may just need to
skip that episode. It might be a zero. You never
know Okay, so to recap next time we will be talking
about the defection Tila's trial and the star
child Tila's trial is can she get an episode
ranking of above one? Hey now, wait a second
here I gave Tila's quest a four or five go back
and look at that one is written by But Tila's
quest happened so far early in the series that
it wasn't to the point where she was just so
annoying. She's almost more annoying than Adam's
cousin. Every episode should just have a character's
name and then an event. Ha ha ha, funny. For
now, I am TF2 and Mikewith. The one and only
Optimus Solo. And remember, by the power of Grayskull,
you all have the power.
No chapter markers for this episode.
