About this Episode

OptimusSolo and TFG1Mike continue their deep dive through Masters of the Universe with three back-to-back episodes: "Double-Edged Sword" explores the discovery of Eternium and the inconsistencies in how long its power lasts; "Quest for He-Man" features a time-travel adventure to another planet with the introduction of Zodak; and "Orko's Favorite Uncle" brings Uncle Montork and the villain Tauron into the mix. The hosts dig into plot logic, character moments, animation quality, and what they felt worked—or didn't—across all three.

and the Masters of the Universe! I am Adam, Prince

of Eternia and defender of the secrets of Castle

Grayskull. This is Cringer, my fearless friend.

Fabulous secret powers were revealed to me the

day I held aloft my magic sword and said, By

the power of Grayskull! Granger became the mighty

battle cat and I became he man the most powerful

man in the universe Only three others share this

secret our friends the sorceress Together we

defend castle gray skull from the evil forces

of Skeletor Hello, this is TFJohn Mike and welcome

to the eighth chapter in Tales of Eternia with

me as always for this journey into the Master's

universe franchise is Optimus Solo. Hello. The

one and only. Are you ready to be continuing

on with Powers of Grayskull? I'm always ready

to continue with the Powers of Grayskull. That's

right. In this episode of Tales of Eternia, we'll

be giving you our thoughts on episode 22, Double

-Edged Sword, episode 23, Quest for He -Man,

and episode 24, Orko's Favorite Uncle. So we

hope you're ready, because it's time to go back

to Eternia. Thank you for coming so quickly,

Your Majesty. You said it was urgent? Where are

we going, Duncan? The Energizer Chamber. I haven't

been down here since I was a boy. There's been

no need for anyone to come down here. But there

is now. Eternium, the most powerful substance

on the planet. This one piece has supplied all

our power for centuries. Duncan, what happened?

Its energy is almost used up. If that walk goes,

everything on the planet would come to a stop.

Everything with Skeletor, he'd just walk in and

take over. We need a new piece of Eternium. Won't

be that easy. Eternium is nearly impossible to

find. First up today is Double -Edged Sword.

Take it away, plot man. Double -Edged Sword,

episode 22, air date Tuesday, October 4th, 1983.

Written by Robbie London, who we are not unaware

about. He wrote Diamond Ray of Disappearance,

Disappear and Act, Dawn of Dragoon, and now Double

-Edged Sword. I'm starting to think that he cannot

write an episode that doesn't have a prominent

D -word in it. But anyways, plot for the Double

-Edged Sword. Man -at -Arms explains to King

Randor and Prince Adam that their Piece of Eternium,

which has powered the royal palace for centuries,

is almost used up. In the sands of time, a young

boy named Chad and his grandfather discover a

Piece of Eternium. and a pick up with Tila is

arranged. Merman and Trapjaw witness the Eternium

moving across the sands of time and decide to

take it for themselves. As the villains attack

Chad, they soon learn that his grandfather is

not all he appears to be. As Chad aims to learn

his grandfather's past, Trapjaw, powered by Eternium,

duels with He -Man. So our main bad guys are

only Merman, Trapjaw, and a brief appearance

from Panther. No Skeletor, Evelyn, etc. No Beastman.

And our masters are our regular good old crew.

None of the minor masters and no new people there.

And then obviously we're dealing with two new

characters there, Chad and his grandfather, who

I believe goes by the name of Elden. So what

did you think about the plot of the Double -Edged

Sword? It was interesting. The title threw me

off a little bit. Yeah. I was expecting it to

be something centered around the power sword.

And it really wasn't. I guess it's more so discussing

the eternium and how it could be used for good

or used for bad in this situation. I was more

so thinking it was more about the grandfather.

Yeah, could be to the boat where where where

he was once one thing and now he's another thing

that that Chad just didn't even consider that

he could be Yeah, you know or how writing can

be good sometimes but bad at the same time too,

right? Yeah, but I I Don't know. I thought this

was an interesting plot. I'm gonna have some

things that we're gonna delve more into concerning

the plot in our other two segments, dealing with

the Atterneum, which is the main focus of this

plot, both good and bad. But as far as just a

general plot, as far as they need some power

source, they find something, bad guys are going

to try to intercept it, I'm with them with all

of that. And I kind of like the setting of this

one and the fact that it's The side evil warriors

and not Skeletor manning. Yeah So yeah, I don't

have a problem with this plot at all. I Don't

necessarily have a problem with the plot. I Have

a certain issue with part of the plot, but overall

I like it There's a certain character that I

don't give two shits about all right So The PSA

for this one was about violence in cartoons and

about fighting and war in general. And it was

given to us by He -Man. I'm actually going to

say that out of all the PSAs I've ever heard,

this may be the best one I've ever heard. This

PSA, I just want to shove it in the face of every

single stupid idiot. that blames video games

or movies or cartoon violence on why people go

and shoot up a school or something, which is

the biggest load of BS. The reason people go

and shoot up schools is because they're mentally

fucked up and they haven't had good parenting

usually. Anyway. Yeah, you're right. But, you

know, everyone's always looking to blame something

and it's always the easy thing. Oh, it's because

people play video games. No, millions and billions

of people play video games and millions and billions

of people don't go shoot people up. But this

one is just like Snacks right in the face. It's

like He -Man directly talking to kids being like,

you know Real when real fighting takes place

or when war takes place Not only can your friends

get hurt you can get hurt, you know And they

even come out and say of course in you know the

cartoon the good guys never get hurt But in real

life good guys can get hurt Yeah, I just think

it was masterfully written He -Man Delivered

it perfectly it fit with the episode. It was

a good message for every single person That's

watching the cartoon and I love the PSA for this

one. Yeah, it was great So there's my soapbox

on probably if I had to pick like a top five

list of best PSA's of all time This would be

a shoo -in. Yes All right, so we're gonna head

on over to Grayskull Alright, so we are in Grayskull,

and I'm gonna go first. I only got a couple.

Chad and his grandfather sound like Mr. Peabody

and Sherman to me. I kind of liked the voices

for them. Just because, again, like I said in

a couple more recent episodes, it seems like

there's a little bit more variety in the voices

we hear. It almost took me a while to figure

out who Chad was. No, I knew instantly. I'll

get to that. I knew instantly. Yeah, I don't

mind their voices in this one. We'll get to that.

Yay, Merman and Trapjaw. Yay. I very much like

that this was a focus on those two and that they

were the ones coming up with a plot, trying to

execute the plot. Now we got a break from Skeletor.

And I just, I love all of Trapjaw's moments in

this episode. It's so awesome. So cool. It really

focused more on Trapjaw this episode than it

did Merman, but it was still very, very cool

to see the two of them team up together. What

about you? What'd you like about this one? I

liked a lot of stuff about this one. Obviously,

I liked the PSA. We already talked about that.

This is going to be a love -hate thing, and I'll

get to it. But Eternium. All right. I like the

fact that we finally get a mention or an explanation

of what supplies energy on Eternia. Up to this

point, it's been very ambiguous as to what their

vehicles are powered by or what's providing energy

just in general to the planet. It's been something

that hasn't been touched on at all. So I thought

it was a good thing that someone decided, in

this case Robbie London, to touch on. what is

providing power at this planet. Power and energy

is a huge deal for any planet. So I thought it

was good that they touched on that. We'll get

back to that later. I loved the look on the sea

creature's face when He -Man first grabs him.

I think he at that point grabs his tail or his

legs or something and it's just like the sea

creature knows he's in trouble. It's like this

really innocent like, oh shoot. I kind of like

the fact that the grandpa knew who merman and

trap job were Yeah, it makes the evil warriors

More legit as a presence on Eternia that is known

throughout Eternia It's not just bad guys that

even that battle he man or the Masters It's bad

guys that must be doing stuff throughout the

planet because even this guy just saw them and

recognized them and knew them by name. Trapjaw

showed at times in this episode that he has a

brain. He actually was smart enough to think

there is a rock -like substance that creates

power or energy. I eat rock. Or I have a you

know a jaw that can munch through rock and stone

and stuff So maybe if I eat that I can consume

and you know, absorb some of that energy. I thought

that was a Intelligent moment for him I'm not

saying all his moments in this episode were intelligent,

but that was one of them. I Love merman But I

felt bad even though it was nicely done and I

laughed when he was used as a human cannot catapult

That was a funny moment And the other thing I

liked about this episode going back to the grandpa

is not only did he know who the evil warriors

were But it also kind of gave a little bit more

also background of Eternia's history when he's

talking about the orc war I Don't think that's

been mentioned before You know whether it's just

made up for this episode or whatever But he talks

about this orc war that he fought in and it just

kind of just adds a little bit more depth to

Eternia's history So I kind of like that. So

those were the my favorite moments of double

-edged sword. All right, let's head on over to

Snake Mountain. Hey look! Is that Teela? Chad,

quick hand me the scant array and the force shield.

But you don't know how to use... No, no, Chad.

Just give them to me. We'll take that, Rock.

It is ours. Now leave us in peace. Let's freeze

them, Merman. I didn't know you could handle

a shield like that! Let's just see how strong

their weapons are. Yikes! He's too good with

that thing! I don't believe it! But you're the

best shot I've ever seen! There's a link over

there. Get one of them water creatures you control.

Yes! We'll be ready if they show up again. Uh

-oh! Now what? I'm getting a distress call from

my Spidusaur! That old man and boy couldn't beat

that thing. Turn around! Turn around! It was

he man who did it! Now we'll never get the Eternium.

It was so close, I could almost taste it. Taste

it? I wonder. The Eternium is the most powerful

substance on the planet. So? Suppose I ate some

of it. Why would you do that? Well, if I ate

it, it might make... So we have trekked into

snake mountain and why do I have a long list?

Interesting. Let's start off with the biggest

elephant in the room It you know we we as you

know earthlings live on a planet of a Like, how

many billions of people? A lot. Okay. You mean

to tell me one piece of Atterneum runs the entire

planet? Really? Come on. Like, okay, I get I

like that they finally show it, that this is

what gives us our power, but that's an entire

planet. I even showed you... his last episode

you you had said something about the matter of

attorney i even showed you a picture of the toy

of the messengers classics actual map andy it

looks like attorney a looks like earth it looks

like our world as far as like the positioning

of the confidence of all that stuff i'm so i'm

sorry one piece of attorney of running the entire

fucking planet that's fucking dumb see i don't

see it quite as dumb for a couple reasons Number

one, I don't view it like our planet now where

there's billions of people and there's all kinds

of Industrial, you know their growth and buildings

and etc. I view it as more like what our planet

was like back when dinosaurs roamed the earth

where the actual For better for sitting in a

lack of a better term here The actual human population

is not going to be that huge on the planet and

there's not that many civilized centers outside

of the castle I mean the palace and a few other

places So I think that makes it a little bit

more believable that they don't need as much

and then the other thing I just buy it as a super

Energy source like this is just a we're living

in a fantasy world on a magical planet and this

stuff just has That much power You know, it was

able to make trap jaws powerful as he man, so

it does have some power my issue with the eternium

Is the inconsistency of its lasting power? Yeah,

okay. We've had one rock the size of you know

basketball not even a basketballs, you know size

of a softball almost golf ball that has been

powering the planet for Long ass time. I don't

remember exactly what they say, but I want to

say it's like hundreds of years or something

So this one little rock has done that for a long

long long time The rock they find is basically

the same size if not just a tiny bit smaller.

Yeah Why does the effects on trap jaw wear out

within minutes? my problem and you can say it's

because it's different because he consumed part

of it or he broke some of it up or he didn't

eat the whole thing or whatever but if you have

a piece of rock that has the energy power the

capability of powering the planet for hundreds

of years trap Josh at least should have been

able to go a couple weeks or months with that

thing yeah so I had a problem with the inconsistency

of how long it lasted you know I guess nothing

Doesn't I guess it just doesn't keep going like

the Energizer bunny. I don't know Yeah, so that

was my problem with the Eternium I can buy that

it powered the whole planet because I don't think

there's that many civilized centers and it's

super powerful I just don't understand what causes

it to run out faster or slower in some cases

The grandson is so a male version of Tila's voice

I knew that was Linda Gary the instant that kid

open his well I knew I had to because it couldn't

be anybody else But it is still I had I still

was listening very carefully to be like how did

she do that with her voice? It was just kind

of weird sounding, but I liked it I didn't For

a minute there. I was gonna have an issue with

the transformation, but Tila had already run

off And didn't see it for a second there for

a split second I was gonna have an issue with

the transformation, but she had already run off

I'm so sick of the Furby animation when the devil

creature is on Chad's shoulder the back and forth

is just oh Just it was horrible and it's a burby

It sounded like they were saying I know that's

because we live in a society that has since had

As a kid we would not have heard furbies because

they didn't exist back then Again more bad smoke

animation. Yeah, there was some Chad's voice

still annoys the hell out of me even at the end

of the episode could not stand it Okay Everyone

always says he meant is the most powerful man

in the universe Every time he gets hit with a

magic blast like that once he doesn't deflect

or whatever he may get stunned But we don't actually

ever see him to my knowledge to this point in

the series. We've never actually seen him bleed

I know but I'm saying I'm coming around to my

point here though is they say that Immortal has

to enter the chamber. I thought he man was immortal

because The guy never gets okay sure is Prince

Adam he might fake a cold every now and then

To kind of go off and do the transformation thing

but it's like the dude never gets sick the dude

never Gets hit or hurt in battle sure he can

hang off a cliff, but that that's nothing You

know it's like what is he is he mortal or immortal?

I never I guess as a kid. I never pictured him

as being immortal. I always figured he could

die He's powerful. He's strong Right, but what

I'm saying is like it they Again, this is again

where the where the episode title could come

in where it's a double -edged sword where it's

like Which one is he? because they specifically

say that a Mortal needs so a non -magical being

like sorceress couldn't enter the chamber obviously,

so that's why I think that he is mortal Okay

Alright, well, that didn't work. What didn't

you like about this one? Besides the inconsistency

with the Eternium's lasting power, again, bad

characters never value things. Trapjaw eats part

of the Eternium and then just throws the rest

away. If it's that valuable, come on, guys, be

a little bit smarter. I know they're bad characters,

so maybe they're not supposed to be smart, but

I get sick of watching bad characters drop and

throw things that are important throughout. Cartoon

dumb This is just a nitpick, but I believe they

called it a jet chair though futuristic wheelchair

that the grandpa is in yeah, all right in one

of the opening scenes I Don't understand why

all of a sudden the jet chair went into bucking

bronco mode Like the grandpa's just explaining

something or doing whatever like just talking

to his grandkid or Whoever he was talking to

and then all of a sudden his jet -chair is just

like bucking up and down for no reason whatsoever

I'm like is he doing that on purpose? I don't

quite understand what's going on right now Maybe

the chair was looking for its mate I don't know

what was going on the chair was getting into

a mood that it needed some loving I guess Oh

God wait a second wait a second. This was 83,

right? Yeah Damn, it's a few years short of shot

a few years shy of cherry Yeah, but yeah, I didn't

understand the bucking bronco jet chair Yeah,

bucking bronco jet chair for people that want

to understand my reference of cherry go listen

at telecast Peewees playoffs episode because

yeah that chair essentially molested peewee yes

and this chair was molesting the grandpa i think

yeah or else the grandpa was getting off in front

of his grandson without his knowledge i don't

know okay uh i think it's awards time holy crap

come on you'll be safer over there tayla could

you put your finger here for a second that should

hold you long enough for us to be on our way

where's that monster You're a little late, Orko.

It is awards time. Do you have any awards to

give out? I do. I never do this. I very rarely

give this character something, but I will give

a power sword to He -Man on this one. Um, I thought

he was good throughout the episode. He didn't

bug me at all You know, he didn't smash the attorney

and back into a rock. He's flung the sea creature

around He he did everything he needed to do follow

trap John did all that all right, and then he

delivered a flawless PSA So I'm giving a power

sword to him in I Agree, I'll give one to him

as well But at the same time on the other end

of the spectrum Just could not stand Chad so

I get a brain that kid over the head with a Havoc

staff I do And you're reading Since we've talked

it out, I'm gonna give it a three I originally

wrote down a two, but I'm gonna give it a three.

I don't know. I think it's mainly Sometimes when

I'm watching these episodes if a character Comes

up that I just can't stand it ruins the rest

of the episode for me like if it's a one -off

character That is just like a passerby thing

I don't mind but if it's a main like story character

to that episode and I don't like them It just

throws it all off for me. So I'll give it a three

out of five orcos. I Enjoyed this episode. I

like the trap John Merman two -person team I

like that we have something that's actually giving

power to the the universe even if it's or the

planet even if it's inconsistent I give this

one a four I would give it more if it was more

consistent with its some of its themes but it

was a decent episode for me overall I'd like

it all right we're gonna move on to the next

episode I'll go easy on you, P -Man. Your sword

gets my energy off. Whatever you say, metal mouth.

What is this? P -Man! I'll go after him! Let

him go! I have what I came for! At long last,

my revenge against He -Man will be complete!

Skeletor... I should have known! Your mistake

will cost you dearly, old enemy! I'm about to

rid Eternia of your hated presence forever! You'll

feel nothing, He -Man, but you will no longer

be a problem to me! By the powers of darkness,

evil and fear, I command He -Man's memory to

now disappear! Oh no! What have they done? Doorway,

now prove that Skeletor is clever! Sweep He -Man

inside you and hold him forever! Up next is...

Quest for He -Man. Take it away, plot man! Alright,

Quest for Nehe Man was obviously airing on Wednesday,

October 5th, 1983, so this is our mid -week episode.

Did you almost say Quest for Nehe Man? No. And

it was written by our friend Paul Dini, who has

a tendency of kind of going after one character

at a time, because he's done Tila's quest, he's

done Evelyn's plot, and now we're on Quest for

Nehe Man. So he likes to delve into those characters

a little bit. He also of course the creatures

from Tar Swamp and Prince Adam no more in the

shaping staff, which we've all reviewed so far.

So the plot for Quest for He -Man goes as follows.

Skeletor launches an attack on the royal palace.

When He -Man is drawn away, the villains trap

him, erase his memory, and banish him to the

crossroads of all universes. The sorcerer summons

Zodak. who gives Orko a wand that he promises

will guide Orko to He -Man on the mysterious,

polluted planet of Trennis. He -Man meets a strange

cast of characters. Orko, Ram -Man, and Cringer

form an unlikely trio, intent on rescuing He

-Man from Plundor, which is an evil pink rabbit.

So our bad guys on this one are Trapjaw, Triclops,

Skeletor, and Evil Lin while they're on Eternia.

So we did get to see a kind of a rare occurrence

of triclops and then of course once we get to

Trannis we see a plundor as the main villain.

Masters we have the regulars like we said a little

bit more featured with Ramman, Cringer and Orko.

Then we got to see a brief sighting of Stratos

and of course the introduction of Zodak along

with on the planet of Trannis Gleedle the bird

lady and her cat. So those are the characters

we see. And what are your thoughts on the plot

here? Again, Skeletor is thinking outside the

Havoc staff here. He's not just doing your, yeah,

I'm the villain of the week plot. He's not just

doing that. And I like that about this episode.

I like that it's completely different. I like

the fact that he tries to send He -Man to a different

dimension. This this episode really quickly before

you go This episode actually reminds me of The

child's play from g1 season 3 where they end

up in the little bug boys And then there is toys?

What were you going to say? No, I was just going

to say I thought the Evil Warriors were really

excellent in this episode. They came up with

a good strategy and a good plan to lure He -Man

out. You know, they had a trap waiting for them.

It was just a completely thought out process.

Like it's we're going to we're going to have

whoever it was trap draw, you know, get captured

or triclops, whoever it was. You know, we're

gonna lure him in out and we have a trap waiting

for him here And then it goes it's so much further

because now we're gonna erase his memory Which

is gonna serve a purpose because if we're gonna

erase his memory, he doesn't always he man He

doesn't know his friends are he's not gonna be

able to come to their rescue because he doesn't

know who they are But then even take it a step

further and be like we're not just gonna take

the chance that We're gonna erase his memory

and things are gonna be fine. We're gonna erase

his memory and then send him somewhere. He's

never been Where he can't get back so then it's

like double security here. Like not only does

he not have a memory, but now he's not even going

to be know that he's not on his own planet. So

it's going to take a lot of effort to get him

back. I mean, this is almost a surefire of a

plot and a plan that is Skeletor has come up

with to get human out of the picture so he can

have his way with Eternia. So I just really appreciated

how well this evil plot and plan was thought

out and how many layers there were to it. You

know, and then of course, we're going to see

another planet. So in the plot, we're also going

to be introduced new characters. And it gave

a need for the Sorceress to reach outside her

own powers to get somebody that knows how to

deal with the crossroads of all universes and

then brought Zodak in. So, you know, I'm sure

we'll talk more about him in the next section.

Yeah, but and then the PSA was Zodak's basically

giving us a Captain planet message of be nice

to your planet or it can turn into ruinous because

plunder basically has ruined the planet of Trannis

by Sucking up all their energy and whatnot and

so it's all kind of about like how you treat

your planet and whatnot Right But yeah, I liked

it Yeah, it was pretty good. So we are going

to enter the depths of Castle Grayskull. The

wand will work with your magic and will guide

you. I can tell you no more than that. You mean

we have to depend on Orko's magic? We're doomed.

So we have entered Castle Grayskull. What did

you like about this one? I like quite a few things

about this one. Like I had mentioned before,

not only did the evil warriors have a cool plot

that they had developed, I thought there were

some cool visual moments from them and some cool...

Like more minute things about them first of all

After they capture human and Skeletor and Evelyn,

you know, they always do their disappearing act

Evelyn kind of had a cool from a visual standpoint

how she like wrapped her robe type thing or her

cape Kind of around her as she disappeared. I

just thought I had a cool look and a cool aesthetic

to it This is one of the first times we've actually

got to hear Skeletor Recite a spell like give

us he did they like the incantation to it And

it was kind of a cool little rhyming thing that

you would kind of expect from them You know like

a Merlin or a magician or someone with magical

powers So I like seeing that side of it and seeing

him actually say the spell. I thought that was

cool So those were the evil warrior ones and

also we had trap job with his uh his gun go bang

moment Yeah, so he shoots and it's just like

a little flag that says bang that's always funny

Yeah, that's in the yeah, it's like almost like

a Looney Tunes moment I Thought this episode

was a great episode for Ram, man Being one of

the three that got to go to Trannis, we got to

see a lot more than we usually do from Ram Man,

him bouncing around, you know, busting through

things, having some clever lines, especially

like when they're doing the time travel and he's

like the only one that's just chilling. He's

just like, this is the only way to fly. And just

kind of being his lackadaisical, easygoing self.

So I liked his moments in this episode. Just

a couple other ones. Gleedle. I like that the

bird lady had her own cat. You know, because

we know that He -Man has Cringer and Skeletor

has Panther. Yeah. Now we're in another planet

and we see a character that has her own cat.

It almost makes her seem more important. But

I like that there was just another cat. I never

knew that there was other cats in He -Man besides

Panther and Battle Cat. Even to see the interaction

between Battle Cat and this cat was kind of cool,

I thought. Maybe you didn't, but I liked it.

I like that they, again, reference the time corridor.

To me, that means a lot that it's not something

that was used one time in one episode as a plot

device and then was completely forgotten about.

This is the thing we use when we're going to

other dimensions, when we're going to other time

periods, when we're going to other planets, whatever.

You go to Castle Grayskull, the time corridor

is an option. So I like that that's not just

a one and done thing. And most of all, the best

thing about this, we're talking about Castle

Grayskull moments. The best moment of Quest for

He -Man is the appearance of Zodak. His voice

is cool. He has one of the coolest looks of all

characters that we will see in this series. To

me, He was one of my favorite characters as a

kid and I loved that we got to see him in this

episode Very cool. What about you, sir? Yay triclops

for all of What five minutes as much as we got

to see Stratos basically in this episode So Skeletor

has a phantom zone portal Skeletor is the Zod

of the Masters of the universe universe respond

what it's a superman reference dammit okay good

i thought it was something else no zod zod is

stupid power rangers character or something no

no no that's zordon you dummy no zod is um the

villain from superman 2 he's general zod uh and

on krypton they What the elders did with criminals

is they put them in this phantom zone thing,

which usually you need to have some sort of projector

or some sort of ray come down. So I thought that

was interesting that Skeletor has a phantom zone

portal. Relying on Oracle's magic. Yup. They're

doomed. I love Cringier. He's got some funny

moments. He does. Yeah, as much as Orko is seen

as the comic relief in this series, it's really

cringey that it has the funny lines. Yeah, yeah.

I love how, and I wrote this note as soon as

I saw it, obviously now you're telling me that

this... thing is a cat but I love how cringe

your attempts to talk to the other cat dog whatever

kind of ant I couldn't when I first watched the

episode I was like is that a cat is it a dog

is it a mug I can't tell um John Candy reference

for the women um Raman doing his thing is just

awesome boing And I do agree with you. I love

seeing the introduction of Zodiac. I thought

that was really cool Again, it's showing you

something, you know this episode shows you multiple

facets of both the evil warriors and the good

warriors as well because Sorceress has to go

outside of her purview. She can't handle it.

So she has to go to somebody else and we get

this new character Will for being someone that's

supposedly as all -powerful as she has she has

lots of limits Her power is always not gonna

be strong enough to compete with whatever weird

thing Skeletor's come up with her, you know,

she's not able to do this or that she can't save

the kid He man's gotta go into the random chamber

of life or whatever we created for that episode

You know, we're gonna need zodiac for this one.

Like what can you do sorceress? Just kidding

Card any card. No, not that one All right, so

let's head on over into the mouth of the snake

be careful it's salty in there Still no other

sign of He -Man. This planet is so dirty, I can

hardly smell anything. We've just got to find

him. It's a monster. I don't think this friendly

pooch would hurt anyone. In fact, maybe you can

ask him if he's seen He -Man, Gringer. Snarl?

He says his mistress and he -men were taken away

by a giant robot! All right, we have survived

the lava. More whistling for vehicles. Boo! Oh,

gosh. Voice command. Drives me... no. Is not

a fucking voice command. Sound command. It's

like whistling for a dog. Or a horse. How in

one growl did Cringer get - I almost wrote that

down. Like Cringer does - whatever, like multiple

sound effects the cat growls once and he gets

that entire exposition out of that one growl.

Yeah, that's kinda weird. I mean, I'm not like

taking a point off the episode because of because

of cringers I just thought it was a funny moment,

but it was like he didn't even know what to say

He's like trying to make cat noises or something

and then he growl He actually growled at one

point and then the other one's just like wow

and then I was like, oh This has happened It

was funny. Yeah, it was funny The transformation

restores his memory Cop out much Yeah, I can

kind of see that as being a cop out. I kind of

didn't let it bother me I just figured that saying

the incantation even though he it was kind of

a weird moment because he was already he man

But I guess he just didn't know he was he man,

but he was already he man and then he does the

sword says the thing, and apparently that channels

the power of Grayskull, which can solve some

issues. You know, I can see people having an

issue with it. It didn't bother me as much as

I thought it might, but I can see where you're

coming from on that one. Well, it didn't, like,

okay, it isn't, like, you know, it's not gonna

take away off my score on here, but at the same

time, it's like... I just had that thing of,

oh, transformation restores memory. It was just

one of those moments where I didn't cop out much.

It's one of those things where... It was kind

of an easy way to do things, but I don't know

what else they would have done to get him to...

That's true. What I would have liked to have

seen is if Orko sat there for like two minutes

and said, hey, do you remember... you know what

you know all your friends back in attorney and

then you know like somehow or go telling him

of adventures that they went on or something

we have something just more than just hey here's

your sword you know yeah i mean it was kind of

a code it was a way you know zodiac apparently

knew that that's what he needed to do and he

didn't You know, so he gave him the clue of you

know, it's gotta be something about back home,

you know So it's kind of cool that Oracle figured

it out But yeah, it was kind of easy easily done

This episode kind of had a couple things that

you kind of had to that are worth discussing

or at least worth mentioning I mean number one

we have he man already being he man and doing

the sword thing We also have he man and cringer

together Yeah, which is a weird thing to come

to terms with because it should be he man battle

cat but he meant and still he man but Cringer

somehow wasn't still Battle Cat, so something

happens where Battle Cat goes back to being Cringer,

but He -Man is stuck being He -Man. It was something

that I had to like, I don't know, it was something

that was like offsetting for me a little bit.

Like why, if He -Man is still He -Man, why is

Battle Cat not still Battle Cat? Is it just because

they got separated and moved to a different dimension,

and then when that happened, Battlecat reverted

back to Cringer and that's why He -Man could

do the sword thing again It was just it was kind

of cool, but also kind of weird seeing He -Man

with Cringer Yeah And my final Sting Mountain

moment a Bunny -shaped fortress, that's not at

all frightening. That was kind of freaky Yeah,

I can Like, Plundor was not the greatest -looking

villain in the world. They literally chose a

rabbit and then put a stupid line that they gave

to Orko about, oh, there's probably nothing more

vicious than a rabbit that we're going to encounter.

That was a dumb line. But I didn't have as much

of a problem with Plundor as I thought I might.

He had a cool name. I get that he's stealing

from the planet and zapping its power and not

being environmentally friendly or green or anything

like that. But I was just like, oh, they chose

a rabbit to be the bad character. It's kind of

weird. But then, you know, it was a different

planet, a different dimension. So I'll let that

slide. My really only low light, only snake mountain

moment for this episode is the ongoing visualizations

and graphics that they use to represent time

travel. Yeah, it's just awful. It just looks

like something out of a 1940s sci -fi Show or

something that you would expect 1950 sci -fi

show excuse me or something, you know, just something

that's just cheesy to the max So yeah, that's

the only thing I really kind of didn't like about

this episode have a drink to the max Bad save

by the bell reference. Any, uh... No, those are

the only lowlights I had. Okay. Let's, uh, go

hand out some awards. I think I'm getting travel

sick! Look, guys! Sodak's wand is glowing! We

must be close to He -Man! Hang on! Oh, I thought

we cats always landed on our feet! It is awards

time for the Quest for Heman. What do you got?

Um, basically for this one, I kind of have to

give two out. Which is kind of unfair I guess,

but I gotta recognize Ram Man a little bit I

talked about it But just seeing him being one

of the three that got to go to the new time You

know we didn't really have an explanation of

why it had to be Kringer or Orko or Ram Man That's

just what Zodak said it had to be But it gave

Ram Man some spotlight, and he was cool with

it So I give him a little power sword, but the

main power sword for this episode has to go to

Zodak Love his look. I love his voice. I love

what he's doing his his aura his mysteriousness

He's just an epic human character, and I'm a

big power sword to him Okay, I'm gonna give two

out as well one to ram in for everything you

just said and Cringer Cringer needs a power sword

Yeah, he just was. What do you rate this one?

This one was darn near one of my favorite episodes

so far. There wasn't much that I didn't like

about it. Yeah, maybe doing the whole By the

Power of Grayskull wasn't an easy way out of

it, you know. But yeah, four and a half for me.

Four and a half out of five. I really, really

enjoyed this episode. Yeah, I'm just gonna give

it a straight four. I really enjoyed it as well.

It's Again super super interesting, so we'll

just go from there, so we'll move on to the last

episode of the night Gark, am I happy to see

you? That's your uncle's pet? Uncle Mator! Stay

back! Toron's an evil wizard, and he seems to

have put your uncle and Gark under a spell. Take

care of them! Please, you gotta snap out of that

spell! Why should that little one look so familiar?

Bah! It's a trickery of my master's enemies!

And finally, we're in... talking about Orko's

Favorite Uncle. Take it away, plot man. That's

right. It's Thursday, October 6th, 1983, and

like you said, it's time for Orko's Favorite

Uncle. A little disclaimer here, though, before

I go any further. For anyone who's ever had an

issue with us going in chronological order as

far as air date, this episode is proof that that

is how you should view this series. Because if

you are viewing this in production, order. how

they are on the DVD, how they are on Netflix,

in that order, you would have already seen the

return of Orko's favorite uncle before you saw

this episode. Right. So this is why this should

be viewed in this order. This is supposed to

be his first appearance. This is supposed to

be the first episode that you see that has him

in it. So that's why it makes sense to do it

this way. Because as a kid, I think I would have

been confused if I saw a return of Orko's favorite

uncle before I saw Oracle's favorite uncle. Yeah,

but anyways, like I said, it was Thursday, October

6th. This episode was written by Douglas Booth,

who most people should at least be somewhat familiar

with. This is the first He -Man episode that

he wrote that we have talked about. And the plot

goes something like this. Tauron uses his powers

to summon powerful beings from other worlds.

One of them being Orko's uncle Montork and his

pet Gark who are transported from Tralla but

arrive in separate locations. Montork arrives

just as Prince Adam, Cringer, and Orko are trying

to fend off a manticore. Safely back at the royal

palace, Montork tells of his arrival on Eternia

just as Toran appears and possesses him. Toran

then orders him to attack Castle Grayskull, much

to Orko's astonishment, and we're left with Orko

and the good characters trying to convince his

uncle... that he is good and that he should not

be doing what he has been doing and that he's

possessed by Toran. We didn't have any of the

bad guys in this character, none of the evil

warriors, because it's basically just Toran.

As for the Masters, we get our regular group,

nobody on the fringes or no extra people. And

then of course we had Toran, Uncle Montork, and

his pet Gark. And the PSA was Orko with a weird

message about the magic of being alive and never

taking things for granted, I guess. And that

the rainbows are magic Yeah, there's a weird

PSA anyways thoughts on the actual plot of the

story for you I gotta start with the PSA. Oh

my god. I Didn't know what exactly he was trying

to say I don't know if he was trying to make

a play that there is a god and that Rainbows

can't just be happenstance and that there's something

higher power creating that or if he was literally

trying to make the message that there's just

magical things Like it was just weird. I don't

know but apparently They have weed on attorney

because orca was smoking some weed when he The

overall plot is is interesting I'm glad that

we're getting more characters from trawler Yeah,

not just orco and Driel and not just because

in the one Driel episode that we've had already

in tales of Eternia you know she was like Orko

he has to save the other trolling and you just

see a random try you know you don't you don't

get any other like specific trolling characters

other than Driel and his uncle and he's of course

got the like square glasses that kind of make

him separate in the beard right as far as the

look goes he he's kind of uncle Montork is like

the Papa Smurf of Masters of yours my problem

here is that Toran Who is apparently this very

evil magician and and he's portrayed like that

and they do a good job making him seem like that

He is doing these different spells and now he

needs power from people, you know from other

worlds I would have bought that more if he would

have brought more than just two people from trial

Yeah, like he just brings Oracle's uncle and

his uncle's pet That would have been fine if

they were one of Maybe three different people

that he summoned Like I think this episode would

have been better if he would have summoned These

two people or you know, he summons the uncle

from trial who just happens to come with his

pet or whatever He summons some other being or

beast from some other planet and maybe a third

one where He needs the combined power of all

these people but for it just to be orcos uncle

and his pet Seemed a little lame to me Like it

almost took away how powerful this man was supposed

to be that he's relying on a trawling or whatever

We call these people I get that his uncle's powerful

and has powerful magic and can do a lot But I

think it took away some of the effect of how

mighty and magical Toran was Yeah, it essentially

turned them into a villain of the week Yeah,

I just I just think it would have been cool if

they would have grabbed a couple people from

other planets as well Then the uncle would have

been one of the group and then that would have

been their way to You know to defeat the group

was to use the connection with the uncle and

to sway him to turn on Torrin or something I

just think this episode had potential that was

not reached No, I so agree. Yeah, and it just

became kind of weird. It was it was almost boring

to me at times Yeah, it was very very like I've

seen this before you have a character who is

under some type of spell or who is Working for

evil and we're gonna have to convince him that

no you're not evil and you know at the end He's

gonna snap out of it and everything's gonna be

fine and all plots are gonna be foiled. I Don't

know. I just wasn't entertained by this episode

I'm surprised there wasn't a sword with a jewel

in the center of it. Yeah Yeah, whoops jumping

ahead. Anyway, alright, so we're going to We

command the jaw bridge open we're gonna head

into grayscale That's no mouse Orko, that's a

manticore That's the first good news I've heard

all day. Alright, we are here in Grayskull, and

I only have got three here. I just love Cringer's

smartass remarks. Cringer's becoming an all -star

on this show. Yeah, he really is. I mean, because,

like, see, that's the thing, like, yes, Cringer

is a... is a Freddy cat, no pun intended. But

he has some of the more comedic moments where

when he's battle cat Battle cat gets a good one

-liner every now and then but normally battle

cat is Nah, I'm all serious and we need to save

he man. Come on. Let's go We're on my back. I'll

carry her Sorry again jumping ahead um Gringer

makes his exit Again showcasing the lines that

just they give him so awesome Enough of this

writing. I'm gonna levitate. Why didn't you do

that in the first place? It's good thing you

never tried to ride on the jet chair Fucking

bronco, but yeah, what did you like about this

one? I like Toron's look I liked his voice I

like the yeah, I like the effects that they used

when just his head would show up when he was

kind of like You know speaking to a group or

possessing the people or whatever there was kind

of a cool like somewhat transparent Look and

the way his floating head would appear Yeah,

so I thought toron had a lot of potential in

this episode I guess we'll leave it at that All

right, yeah, he had a lot of potential that just

kind of fell to the wayside. Yeah, I mean it

was just a type of episode where I just I watched

it and There was never a time where I just thought

oh that was cool. I should write something down

about that I just never had those moments with

this episode where I was like I'd never felt

like jotting anything good or cool down about

this episode I Will say his entrance With the

lightning and the thunder and all that I really

really really dug that I thought that was cool,

and I love his voice and it's It was cool. Like

I loved how they started the episode I loved

how they were looking at him and his entrance

and all that other stuff and then I'm not saying

I have anything against trawler and and orco

and his people But as soon as that became the

only thing that was involved in it. I just fell

off for me Yeah, yeah, no I can see that I can

definitely see that You know a thing with Toron

You know, it was a great great character great

character design amazing voice Done, I believe

by Alan Oppenheimer Which he usually does a lot

of the other villain voices that aren't like

because Alan Oppenheimer has this thing where

like we know he's man -at -arms We know he's

Skeletor, right? And they are two very, very

different voice. Like Man in Arms is pretty much

what Alan Oppenheimer's voice is for the most

part. It's a little varied, but I've seen him

in like interviews and conventions and stuff

like that. That's pretty much his voice. Skeletor

obviously is slightly different, very different,

but like Toron is kind of like a deeper, darker,

slightly different tonal version of Man in Arms.

And it was so well done. It was so good. But

again, Tor on is a character that I don't know.

I haven't looked. I don't know if he ever comes

back, but it's like These episodes with these

one -shot villains. Like what was that one in

the in the in the shirt score shirt skirt episode

that that that people like Jarvan yeah, Jarvan

does Jarvan ever come back. No, I don't I don't

think so Like I said, I'm not looking at anything

to see if he does but if he does we'll be surprised

so don't ruin it Exactly But again, you know

Toron is one of those characters that was really

really really good premise but yet It just kind

of fell short because they didn't give him anything

past like they didn't give him Oh, I'm going

to come back next time kind of thing, right?

All right, so probably there's no command to

enter snake mountain. Anybody can just walk in

so let's not a snake No Are you talking about

a solid snake or a liquid snake? You don't want

the fucking bronco to molest you. Open up. All

right, so we're in the dungeon of snake Mountain

I hope that toron guy doesn't end up Working

being work, you know, I hope we don't end up

seeing him. Oh, he's just a minion of Skeletor

Which I don't think he is but you know how that

kind of happened with them. What's another stupid

character's name? The one that he man Told that

he had his own debt. Not, um, not Daymar. Um...

Granamar? Granamere? Not Granamere. Um, the other

one that you like. Um... Crap. The one that was,

uh, the one in the Driel episode that was stealing

the energy from the Trollens. My mind has gone

blank. I don't remember what the whole stupid

character's name is. Um... Wow, mind control.

Yay. Oldest plot in the book. That's all I got.

I I really enjoyed this one overall But I only

found two things negative to write down about

it. What about you? I mean besides the crappy

PSA To me it's it's you know, yeah, there wasn't

like I said I watched it and I didn't find anything

real great to write about it I didn't find anything

that stood out that I go. That was a cool moment.

I really enjoyed that moment at the same time

You know, there wasn't, was there animation errors

and stupid -looking moments and bad voices and

visual things that were wrong? No, none. There

wasn't any of that stuff. I mean it was a, the

episode was done fine. It just wasn't, for me

there was nothing. There was nothing to write

down either way. There was nothing good about

this episode. There was nothing bad about this

episode. It was just an episode that I will be

fine if I never watch again. Which probably means

that it's count marzo's top ten favorite episodes,

but I'm sorry. I can't help the guy has bad taste

He likes every episode we hate I Enjoyed it why

don't we go ahead and hand out some awards and

we'll and we'll get to that I wish I had some

magic that could help. Adam! Pranger! Look out!

What's going on? Be careful, Adam. Uncle Muntork!

Uncle Muntork? Ha -ha! Orko, my lad! Quick, Pranger.

This could be our chance. Let's hand out some

awards and also rank the episodes. Do you have

any awards to hand out for this one? It kind

of goes back to the whole fact that I didn't

write down anything good or bad about this episode.

I got nothing. There's nobody that stood out.

There's nobody that was a douchebag. I don't

know. Maybe I should give Havoc staff to Doug

Booth for coming up with a decent plot that went

nowhere. But I'm not going to do that. uh...

you know you know i don't like this guy of apparently

i'll give them a pass on this one he did transformers

episodes and uh... some other stuff i'm pretty

sure i don't know but i'll give them a pass on

this one i won't beat him over the head with

anything for failing with the potential that

this episode had uh... so you know no hardware

for me well i like this episode in general for

the very reason you don't like it I like it because

it's more Trala stuff. I have no problem with

that. We see... Well, you said by the time...

I just... No, I have no problem with Trala stuff

being involved and seeing more. I just think

it was used wrong in this one. Right, right.

That's one that went downhill for me. Right,

yeah. For me, I liked it. I thought it was great

seeing Orko and his uncle interact. And again,

between Orko, his uncle, and Kringer... uh...

they were all great characters in this episode

for me so i'm going to give two power swords

out, one to orco and one to montork as well uh...

i thought that was really really you know really

really good uh... characterization family characterization

uh... the PSA if it had been something like to

do with family it would have been better but

again i don't know what Don't know what kind

of stuff Lou Shimer was on when he wrote that

one if he wrote it. I don't know if he wrote

For the record Doug Douglas Booth will we will

see four more episodes in human that he wrote

He wrote nine episodes of Transformers Including

A Plague of Insecticons, and City of Steel, Sea

Change, Aerial Assault, a Decepticon Raider in

King Arthur's Court. Okay, okay, okay, okay,

I got it, I got it. What do you rank Orko's Uncle?

I mean, like I said, I don't want to seem like

I'm completely hating on this episode. It is

not the worst episode we've reviewed so far.

It's just not the best, either. So I'm just gonna

stick it right in the middle as Nothing Good,

Nothing Bad 3. I agree. Even though I like the

trawl and stuff even though I like Oracle and

his uncle together and I like to cringe your

stuff The villain was so poorly used and not

even set up to come back at all. Yeah, it's a

three out of five for me an agreement Wow Yeah,

so with that we're gonna head to an ad break.

You're gonna hear these PSAs one of them completely

off the wall and the others as well and Ads and

all that good stuff and we'll be back after this

Sometimes movies and television adventure series

like this one make it seem as though shooting

a gun Fighting and taking chances are fun and

exciting things to do and what's more the good

do get hurt, even killed when they fight or use

guns. Make believe can be fun, and there's nothing

wrong with imagining great adventures. But never

forget that when it's the real thing, someone

can get hurt. Even the good guys. Even you. Grab

thoughts on the series so far after watching

these three episodes. Yes. As far as my overall

thoughts, you know, I did get some of the stuff

that I've been looking for. You know, I'd been

yearning for new characters, etc. So, you know,

we got to see Zodak. That was cool. And I'd wanted

some more individual attention given to some

of the side characters. We got to see a little

bit more ramen in the one episode. We got to

see a little bit more Trapjaw in the one episode.

So they did give us a little bit of that. I did

find myself though, even though I really liked

the fact that Skeletor was not a main character

in most of these episodes. You know, he doesn't

appear in the one and the other one he's just

there in the beginning. I did find myself though

when I did finally see Skeletor in a few of these

times then appreciating him even more. Like,

oh, there's good ol' Skeletor, I've been missing

him. But at the same time, like I said, we got

a little bit more ramen, we got a little bit

more trap jaw, so I'm getting a little bit of

what I have been asking for the last couple times

we've done this. I'm greedy, though, I would

like a little bit more individual stories for

some of the characters, especially the minor

characters, and I always am yearning for some

of the new characters to show up, like we got

to see Zodak, so now I'm looking forward to his...

to more appearances by zodiac if we get them

or if we don't don't ruin it for me people i

don't know i haven't watched this recently so

i'm liking where we're at yeah i'm liking where

we're at but at the same time i'd like them to

do like more stories with The other villains

like okay sure these three episodes Skeletor

kind of really isn't okay. Sure. He's there in

a quest for Heman in the beginning, but then

he's gone because obviously that's the The time

shift and all that these are really the three

episodes did a weird grouping of three because

hardly any of them have any Skeletor Yeah, yeah,

the ones all trapped on Merman the ones none

of the evil warriors and the other ones only

the evil warriors at the first five minutes Yeah

So I mean, I like that for the for the master

side, for the for the heroic warriors. I'd like

to see them do something like go to Ramman's

village or hometown or something with Ramman.

I know at some point we are going to go to Avion

with Stratos. Well, we kind of already went with

the whole staff of. Cicero act or whatever the

hell is stupid baby. Yes Whatever You know We

kind of been to avion, but like I would just

want more with that Zodiac I think is good to

leave him as a mystery. Yeah, I mean I want to

see him at some point right No, I'm not saying

that I'm saying like I don't want to see an episode

Explaining how zodak is is who yeah. Yeah. No,

I get that. Yeah, I agree with you He should

be a mystery and he should also be someone that's

only called on in dire straits. Yeah But but

like you said with the other ones Yeah, I would

like to see some more background on like you

said Ram man, especially or triclops maybe Well,

they haven't really done much background on any

of the evil warriors They just kind of got summoned

and they showed up So besides merman a tiny tiny

bit we could see more on all of them Like even

Evelyn, where does she come from? Yeah. And we'll

see that in about, well, let's see. When will

we see that? Well, from 1983, from 1983, we'll

see that in about 19 years, as far as we're...

Oh, we gotcha. So, so there you go, folks. That's

the overall thoughts. Anything else you want

to say before we close out? Nope. Looking forward

to the next patch. We're going to hit the 25
