I promise we will get back to the retro topics,

it's just right now it'd be pretty negligent

of us to not talk about what's going on in gaming.

Considering the future's knocking on our doorstep.

Wait, is something going on in gaming? Yes, it's

called E3 2013. What the hell is E3? The Electronic

Entertainment Expo. Sorry, I thought you said

relevant. I'm sorry, I got confused. It's held

every year for anyone that doesn't know. Traditionally.

Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo all show up. Unfortunately,

Nintendo has elected to sit this year out. I

wonder why. Again, relevant. They're not sitting

it out. They're just... Well, they're not doing

a conference. I thought they were. No, they're

not. They're not doing a big conference. They

have a place on the show floor, but they're not

doing a conference like Microsoft and Sony are.

I thought they were. They're scheduled for the

exact same time as the square... Square Enix

Final Fantasy one is Then that's new because

it was a big deal like a couple weeks ago that

they weren't going to e3 Like proper like they

weren't doing a conference for the first time

ever I think they're having like little stuff

But they're not having a big conference like

the other two are I think you can still go see

Nintendo stuff But you can't somebody made a

comment on Twitter today that the fact that they

have tickets for the Final Fantasy Square event

which is scheduled for almost the exact same

time that the Nintendo conference is scheduled

for Hmm Well, I'm just gonna go on a limb and

say Nintendo doesn't actually have a conference

not one that you'll be able to see streaming

anyways This well, how else are they gonna announce

the re -release of? Fill in the blank Zelda or

Mario game. Well, they're doing a they're gonna

do but they'll probably do one of their directs

Nintendo direct things Maybe that's what the

guy's talking about. That the conference is at

the same time as Nintendo's doing one of their

direct conferences. So before we get too far

ahead of ourselves, as always, I'm your host,

with a really easy prediction here. Of the two

big conferences that are happening, Xbox One

and PlayStation 4, who do you think is gonna

come out on top? Wow, the most like who's gonna

bring the most guns to the table like well since

you were talking about this earlier how PlayStation

4 is doing Destiny I Don't see anything Xbox

releasing being like or showing being like oh

my god. They're gonna show another color duty

trailer Yeah, there's a dog in your squad Well,

but I mean destiny is kind of destiny's destiny's

gonna look the same on both so it is but you're

but Just speaking in the conference. That's gonna

look that's true I think the ps4 conference is

gonna be more impressive than the Xbox conference

I guess that's I guess I can see what you're

saying because I think People so yeah people

associate Call of Duty with the with the 360

because Microsoft has always had Call of Duty

at their cops Yeah, and and that usually battlefield

gets lumped in more with PlayStation because

they get the timed exclusives I think and you

know Xbox gets to call a duty time refusals,

but who do you who you think you so you think

Sony's gonna be the one I think this conference

will be go better for Sony than it will for them

for Xbox Plus how long ago was Sony's last conference

February February and Xbox's was very recently

So I don't see a lot of new information coming

from the Xbox one. Well, I see I think we're

going to see a lot more games out of Microsoft.

I would hope so. I think they got all the boring

stuff out of the way first and I think they're

going to get into the meat of things at E3. But

I don't the thing is with it is I don't see something

unless something new comes out like crazy like

oh my god like Star Wars Battlefront 3. Something

being me being super crazy excited. I don't see

it happening. Okay. I mean I'm firmly in the

like I think Sony's gonna come out I mean they've

already come out swinging already because their

conference was arguably had a better message

for gamers than Microsoft's But I don't think

we're gonna get I think Sony's gonna come out

swinging again Because both guys are gonna have

to show off the games and the reasons to buy

their systems Dana where do you come down on

this? I'm sorry. What was the question? Stop

eating your goddamn Greek yogurt. No, where do

you come down on the whole... Who do you think

is going to win E3, Sony or Microsoft? I think

it's kind of hard to say. Sega. Yes, Sega. I'm

going to go with LOL Out of the Park. I'm going

to say Majesco. Wait, I was going to do Publishers

and Developers next. Skinbox. I think it's kind

of hard. I really I'm trying to be, you know,

kind of bipartisan and just kind of fall in honestly

where I think it's going to go deep down. I personally

feel that I think Sony is going to continue to

impress. And I honestly think this council generation

belongs to Sony. Mm -hmm. I could be completely

wrong. I mean, I just I feel like To me they

came out with a stronger message back in February

and I think they're just gonna expand and build

on top of that I just I Think a lot of it less

so unless Microsoft really comes out with some

shocking Oh my god type exclusives. I just don't

really Connect 2 .0 with below job app. It's

just Sony Looking back at like between 2010 and

2013 looking at the exclusive support or in -house

Studio support that Sony provided compared to

what Microsoft provided. I just have to believe

that I think Sony's going in a good direction

and I have to believe that they're gonna have

a much better showing than Microsoft will. I

have to believe full -heartedly that I believe

Sony is going to do the better job this year.

I hope so. Like I said, I like their message

from their conference. I know. Like we all said,

their message from their conference was aimed

at us and Microsoft's wasn't, and Sony has come

out since saying that The PlayStation 4 is a

gaming console first and everything else, you

know, later. Where Microsoft came out saying,

this is an entertainment console. This is an

entertainment console. This is a TV hub. This

is your this is your media. This is the one box

you need for your media center. Well, let's not

forget. I don't you know, it's kind of interesting.

Is the PlayStation 4 the first time? Sony has

called it a gaming console like legitimately

because isn't it? It's always been the PlayStation

Entertainment System Yeah, it has been But and

I think that has a lot to do with the fact that

the fact that it hasn't it was finally designed

by somebody else Yes, it wasn't the regular the

has a lot to do with it. I think they might be

trying to get away from that Previous design

and I think they're really trying to Embrace

the gamer because I think they know that's where

Microsoft is kind of fallen away from that Or

that's how gamers feel about Microsoft in general

Yeah, I would love nothing more than to come

away from this and be like oh my god Xbox fuck

yeah, but I don't see it happening Yeah, I was

gonna say I think the difference between Sony

and Microsoft this point in time is I think Sony's

actually starting to listen to the consumers

That and their indie developers are going Crazy

are there the guys that go out to find the to

bring the indie developers They're like hitting

the pavement really hard They've been doing that

on the PlayStation 3, too. Yeah. And another

thing, too, is I guess, kind of off the mark,

but I guess Microsoft is not allowing self -publishing

on the 360 for indies. The developer still has

to find a publisher for their game in order for

Microsoft to put it on their system. Oh, what,

like, they even, like, Jewish mode can't use

the, what the fuck was it called? XNA, was it?

Something like that? I can't remember what it

was. No, you can get it. You just can't release

your game on there unless Microsoft publishes

it for you or EA publishes it. So basically they're

like, hey, you have to make sure that some big

corporation gets a slice or whatever. Yeah, and

Sony is allowing for self -publication on their

platform, and they've been doing that. Because

I think that's where these consoles these systems

are going to shine kind of like later Later this

generation. It was the indie games that kind

of started to stand out for me like journey and

dust and a couple of others, but I'm also excited

to have they said if they're gonna show the hardware.

Yes, they I'm cuz I mean, it doesn't matter too

much to me, really, I guess what a system looks

like. But it's just the I think the Xbox one

looks ugly. I don't think it's going to look

any better than the Xbox one. Just it. So they're

both I think they're both going to be big black

boxes that that disappear and why you got to

think about it like colors. OK, stop being so

racist. Fine, they're going to be big gray boxes.

That's still a color. Brown boxes. That's every

color. Against the brown? No, that's only if

you mix all the paints together. That's not how

it works. If you mix all the colors together,

you get Dwayne the Rock Johnson. All right, let's

see. Now, you know, we have the big guys. The

platform holders go on Monday and a couple of

other like some publishers go on Monday, too,

if I remember. at the same time, like EAA and

Ubisoft, and I don't know if I've ever actually

seen an Activision conference. Hey, Call of Duty.

It's called the Call of Duty. It's the Call of

Duty thing is Activision. Konami and Capcom and

those guys have one. Who of the publishers who

do you think is going to have the best showing?

Ubisoft. Yeah, because I think Watch Dogs. And

Watch Dogs was shown last year. I mean, people

obviously are more. They're just they have so

many things that people. Rainbow Six Patriots.

Yeah, they have just the other the other guys

may have like one or two. Is Patriots still coming?

Because I've heard Patriots is in the list for

next gen. Yeah, I think it was it just got pushed

as. It seemed like a lot of games that were going

to come out right at the end of this console

generation. The guys were like, no, let's just

let's just hold up. And release it on the brand

new stuff. I mean, take that. Everything I saw

for Patriots, it looked like a next gen game.

I was just really, really hoping that it wasn't.

Well, the only thing I saw quicker, the only

thing I saw for Patriots was that cinematic.

That scene. That was that was that was gameplay.

It didn't look like gameplay maybe we were stuck

where it's the one where they raid the office

It's gameplay. Yeah. Well, it says it. I think

that's what it says, right? This is well if that's

gameplay Then it's the same kind of gameplay

that Sony showed off at their cons that their

conference Yeah, I don't know if it's running

on a computer or not. But um, I So I still think

that's a lot of those games like I am very surprised

that watchdogs and assassins Aren't just strictly

next -gen I believe that I I believe that assassins

not being next -gen I I do find that a little

hard to swallow with what the differences between

the two versions of yeah, cuz I mean from my

understandings of it is There's no loading Like

you go on the boat, whatever I'll go to this

island. There's no loading. That's a lot of information

to be queued up all at once Well, it's a penny

and put a PlayStation couldn't couldn't do Skyrim

properly so It wasn't properly programmed. Yeah,

but it happened. It's happened. I guess for the

like it's a couple of things. It's because of

the It's because of the way the RAM is divided

up in this. Yeah, it's it's yet split So the

so things that require a lot of information all

at once kind of freaked me out on the PlayStation

But you know people that developers that actually

know how to use it like sucker punch They have

no problems with those open -world games. Oh,

yeah, they're not again. Then again infamous

is not Skyrim. Yeah So I just want to make that

perfectly clear in case somebody actually listened

to this podcast and decided to say you're a freaking

moron I understand that infamous is not as big

and that's the thing is it's like If half -life

3 was to come out that game would probably suck.

never gonna live up to expectations Like why

what they've done I Can't see playing another

the guy that can play both Call of Duty and battlefield

Release dates. And anyone want to take a stab

trying to figure out cuz what some of the games

that are gonna be current and next -gen or what

starting off what August Ye no October October

okay, so October October one releases in November

Well, yeah, I don't think they're going to release

it at the same time, but I think they're going

to be within the same month or two. I think the

Xbox is going to release the week that Call of

Duty comes out. See, I have a feeling that that

that Call of Duty will come out at the same time

as the Xbox. I have a feeling. Well, don't they

already have a release date for Call of Duty?

Isn't it like first week of November? Yeah, that

was November 5th. Yeah, so I see either Xbox

coming then or like a week before. I predict

Xbox the first week of November and PS4. They're

both gonna be out before Christmas. Well, they

have to be out before Thanksgiving. Oh no. Thanksgiving

it will they all want the Black Friday rush.

They all do. Okay, I will go I'm gonna go out

and say I agree with the November 5th for the

Xbox one and it riding the Call of Duty sales

I'm gonna go and when's battlefield coming out?

Well, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say October

29th for the PlayStation 4 which is the week

before so they get Assassin's Creed 4 and they

get battlefield 4 But mainly it's because Sony

likes to ride the the battlefield train and Activision

and call it and Microsoft rides the Call of Duty

train Yeah, I'm saying October 29th for PlayStation

4 and November 5th for the Xbox one If I had

to pick another day doing nothing if I had to

pick another date for the PlayStation 4 it would

be The week of Thanksgiving December 25th Don't

be ridiculous December 24th. We can just take

the Amazon approach and say it's coming out before

December 31st Is that what they're saying? That's

what I think that's what all of the next -gen

stuff says right now on Amazon That doesn't have

an official release date. It says like December

31st, and they all have like a like I think They

all have like placeholder prices of like seven

eight hundred dollars Know the games have placeholder

prices at $100 So and the only reason games are

in a hundred bucks Well, no, they won't be the

only reason they do that is because if they put

it up there for 60 And you pre -order it at $60

and the game ends up being 80 They they have

Amazon has to honor that $60 price So They'd

rather shoot high and then because they always

give you the lowest price. And you guys need

to stop. So. But price. Where do you guys think

we're coming in on that one? I. Man, I don't

know. I. I really hope it's under five hundred

dollars. And for some reason in my gut I'm still

thinking it's gonna be around 500 bucks even

though I've seen some of the analyst stuff that

They're predicting the ps4 350 and the Xbox one

at 399 and that just seems Really loaded me,

but they're gonna be different version I'm very

hopeful that those are actually the prices because

that means I'll probably get one at launch I

I think it's gonna be the other way around on

the pricing. I think it's gonna be 399 for the

PlayStation 4 and 350 for the I don't know. Why

are the why is the price so different? I don't

understand. It's the It's the RAM But wait what

you were saying Xbox is 350. Yeah, how is the

connect? Not pushing above It I mean it depends

on how how much how expensive the stuff inside

the console is because all I know is stuff They've

been saying about how much how much of the memory

in the Xbox One, whatever, is dedicated just

to the Kinect, is like frightening. It's two

gigs. Yeah, it's like half, like half of it's

uh... You still get six to play around with.

of its power, just for that. Okay, RAM does not

equate power, but... Okay, four, you know what

I meant. And not only that, I think the um...

believe the connect sensor is able to process

its own information Like it's not like the 360

connect where the yeah where the 360 is processing

all that information But they see that's my thing

is that without cuz I mean I I don't have any

relative of how big that thing actually is You

know cuz we've only but we've only seen it in

relevance to other parts of the Xbox which we

still don't know how big it is It looks a lot

beefier than the old Well, it looks that way

the for that I would I don't think they would

make it unnecessarily big Being something that's

gonna be mounted on top of your television or

about the fact. They haven't released a council

no. I want a console that's actually shaped like

an X. Where would you put the disc in? It could

be like one of those like the CD players that

a door opens up and you put your disc in there.

the fuck would they ship the PS4 like? Like,

the actual, like, a P, an S, and a 4. It's actually

separate. It's in three pieces. And you have

to have all three pieces for it to run. Yes.

Buy them all separately. Collect them all. I'd

like to buy a vowel. Oh man, I accidentally bought

two P's and I got no S. Son of a bitch, I got

a PP4. What does it do? Not a fucking thing.

It's the do nothing machine. Yeah, I mean he'd

over 399 Mainly because the the hardware is Relatively

the the hardware inside is cheap Okay, just because

it can be that price doesn't mean it will be

well Sony learned their lesson with the five

hundred dollar five six hundred dollar price

tag It With the Xbox the price is gonna come

down to what that whole subscription thing if

what's going on there I I think I Know yeah,

that's what I'm saying is if that is the thing

if it's not that's gonna be a huge point I think

it's a two skews. You're gonna get subscription

non -subscription. Yeah Cuz I think Xbox they

have to realize that it's price wise I mean cuz

Have they come to a ruling on? how necessary

PlayStation Plus is actually going to be. No.

What's going to be behind that wall? I think

all that stuff is going to be. Well, I don't

think it'll all be at E3, but I think some of

them will be at E3 because either Sony is going

to realize that they're missing a ton of money.

And start charging. I don't think they're going

to be equal or they're not an Xbox is going to

realize that if they're going to make people

pay. For all the good stuff, but they're gonna

have to charge less for the system Here's how

I think Sony's gonna go after the this is what

they're gonna do because Microsoft puts everything

behind a paywall Multiplayer is behind a paywall

Netflix is behind a paywall all this stuff But

yeah, they still want people to buy it as an

entertainment box, but Microsoft wants her $60

cut for making it accessible to all these things.

Like, hey, we made our box. So I think I think

Sony is going to take the approach. I think someone

is going to do this. Everything that makes it

an entertainment device, Netflix, Hulu, you know,

MLB, all that stuff, because that stuff has subscription

services in other places. I think all that stuff

is going to be outside of the paywall. I think

anything to do with the gaming games is going

to be behind PlayStation Plus. That way they

can be like yeah, you can buy this box and it's

a blu -ray player And it you know it has all

these streaming services, and it you know it

has all these extra apps But you don't have to

pay extra to access any of them But if you want

to use it you know as far as if you want to go

online and play games Or you want to use like

the the screen sharing or any of that stuff you

got a pony up You know $50 for a year Which I'm

okay with that because if I let my if I let my

PlayStation Plus lapse I can still watch Netflix

on it And if if Xbox does go the subscription

or what are they gonna do for the people that

I already have subscriptions? Is my two years

gonna start at the end of that or they just gonna

erase what I have probably is that gonna have

yeah, how bullshitty that is I think I I think

mine will run till February Yeah, something like

that, but they don't care. I know they don't

That's why I don't see I don't see PlayStation

not charging Not because like they realized not

because that's the right thing to do but just

because they can I think that's what hurts Sony

more this console Than not why that's a huge

chunk of money. They missed out on like I said,

I think they'll charge, but I don't think they'll

charge for I think they're only charged for gaming

related stuff. Why not? Because that's kind of

what they're known for right now is that value.

No, they're known right now for... Horrible horrible

hack that happened and they're just praying it

doesn't happen in the next generation They're

also known for the like they're the their Netflix

streaming is the best on the market Like they're

all they're known for that kind of stuff The

PlayStation 3 has that reputation of being a

very good media box because you buy it exactly

But that's how I can see them not necessarily

as much as the Xbox But like hey, you can get

the the basic membership for 20 bucks a year

or you can get the PlayStation pulse membership

for whatever a year, and having to have at least

the basic one. I don't see that happening, because

right now, PlayStation Plus is completely...

I mean, the only thing it adds is free games,

really. Yeah. But I just... And, uh, what was

it? Don't you get, like, dedicated servers or

something, too? No. What am I thinking of? God,

I'm thinking of Battlefield Premium. Fuck. I

just... I don't think that stuff is gonna be

behind a paywall. I really don't. I think I don't

I hope it's not because I think the features

I think the screen -sharing features the recording

your video and sharing it and streaming your

game online and you know a good cross -party

chat and A better friends less had better be

in on the next place. You sure I will flip my

shit and all that stuff I think I think all that

is is worth plus what will come from PlayStation

plus I think that's worth You know 50 bucks to

a gamer. Plus they could also they could also

put that money. They could put backwards compatibility

behind the paywall. I mean, right now, you know,

we talked last week about how, you know, they

said they're going to do this, but it's, you

know, they say a lot of things. Yeah, they say

a lot of things. So but they could put that behind

the paywall and that just adds to it. I don't

think that they need to. I mean, that's one of

the things that I like about the PlayStation

is that I don't have to pay extra for Netflix.

And I know that's what a lot of people like about

PlayStation. And I think Sony knows that. So.

What do you think, Daner? I get it. It's one

of those I kind of I'm interested to kind of

see what the. Is gonna come of yeah PlayStation

Plus if it's gonna evolve and do Xbox live or

if it's gonna stay essentially what it is Cuz

they got to say if you expect PlayStation Plus

is far more rewarding than Xbox live ever has

been Well in in the stuff that it gives you you

mean Yeah, because I cuz At the brief time that

I had my PlayStation, I would rather pay. For

my for just the, you know, the interconnective

actions on the Xbox, then get the PlayStation

one free as they were. I mean, the chat was garbage.

The community on most games was nothing. I don't

remember what it's like to play with people anymore.

Yeah, most people didn't talk because you had

to go out and get a Bluetooth headset. Well,

I think one of the best things Xbox did for their

online services was put a headset in the box.

Yes. Yeah. Which it looks like that may be the

case again because the PlayStation 4 controller

has that same port as the 360 controller But

I have read something that current head gaming

sets will not work. That is correct. I why I

don't understand Sony's might because they're

all Bluetooth But Microsoft's won't because Microsoft

does this stupid for proprietary BS. Oh It's

like a connector or something, right? Yeah, that's

different It's the fucking lightning cable all

over again Well, I mean, yeah, but it's just

but Sony doesn't I mean it's weird right Sony

goes out and makes their own storage standards

Yeah, everything else. They're kind of like yeah

sure plug whatever you want into this thing.

Yeah That and I'm hoping because the gaming heads

that I have right now works on both PlayStation

3s and Xbox 360s I'm hoping that would still

work on a PlayStation 4, but probably not. I

wonder what would happen if you plugged a wired

360 controller into a PlayStation 3. I'm pretty

sure it explodes. I'm sure it wouldn't recognize

it. Do 360 controllers have drivers built into

them? No. Because I know if you go into a computer

you have to download drivers just to use one.

That's true. So I would just assume that PlayStation

wouldn't be like, Hey, do you want to download

this driver to use your 360 controller? That

would be really neat. The awesome. Are you getting

the first thing I ever did when I hooked up my

new PS3 was log on to Xbox .com and check to

see who was on Xbox because I was too lazy to

Uncharted 4 being there because the release,

schedule by pushing Naughty Dog's game to May,

and obviously Infamous was, you know, should,

is usually a May -June game, and now it's been

pushed to probably a launch, if not a launch

title, then a launch window. You think they're

gonna show more of that? Infamous? Absolutely.

I think they'll - I mean, you got your more into

Infamous than I am. I mean, I played a little

bit of the first one, that was about it. It's

awesome. Oh my god! It is. That's how we're like

for Mass Effect. I'm hoping to get some sweet

Vita announcements, too. I know that they want

with smart glass if that evolves at all, because

about Smartglass integration with the next Xbox

and I had to remind him that Smartglass is integrated

with the Xbox 360 and no one's done Jack with

it. I think HBO uses it for Game of Thrones and

then I... One of the things... Halo does some

stuff with it I think too. Well then they also

showed off being able to change up your plays

in Madden by... with, you know, drawing out your

play on the tablet, which, you know, I don't

play sports, but that's kind of a that'd be cool

if you did. Yeah, exactly. And but it's like

I had to. You know, it's like, no, that that's

been in there since like 2010, man, and no one's

done shit with it. So like, why do you why do

you think anyone's going to do anything with

it now? There's a reason consoles don't have

touch screens. But no, except the PlayStation.

I just want to go back to Uncharted four real

quick. Do you have any idea how good that game

has to look? To pass is like a next -gen uncharted

game It wasn't one of the best looking games

on the PlayStation 3 one of the best looking

think uncharted 3 looks as good as uncharted
