Altered Geek
Star Wars, Batman v Superman, and Daredevil Talk

About this Episode
Chewie, we're home. Oh, and welcome to Altered
Geek Unlimited, episode 84. I'm your host, Steve
Megatron Phillips, and joining me this week are...
Michael Booth, Ninja Powers. And movie revolt
Dan. Yes, our special guest. Special's a strong
word, but yeah, thanks for having me. Is this,
forgive me, is this your first time or second?
Second. Okay. Second time. I was on, in the...
Early stages. Early stages, and I think it was...
Means Steve and I were talking. I think we talked
about stand -up comedy or something. I don't
remember but it was a topic. Yes It was back
when uh, you know the early early Ongoings of
the Batman versus Superman saga before we even
had a title. So that's how long ago it was Yeah,
now I remember that okay now and there's still
nothing much to show about it Still so all that
time still no trailer. Yeah, we know about James
Bond and Star Wars And yeah, which the Star Wars
is very fascinating so So what what shall we
touch on first? Well, I just want to get something
out of the way because I think it's gonna be
rather boring to talk about and I Forgive me.
I can't get the if you can read that comment
Steve from which one Reply do it was on the it
was on the website. We read the first part of
the second part actually hang on It's loading.
Okay. Anyways, it was I just want to make sure
that I get the guy's name in here about Brad
Lincoln, right? Yes, Brad Lincoln Because we
brought up last week about the whole Kickstarter
thing and I admit I had my head up my ass about
that the whole time I mean My opinion is still
my opinion. I totally understand why things are
the way that they are but we were talking about
He talked about how he usually just backs kickstarters
that he is Familiar with he feels more comfortable
with that because he feels like he's more likely
to get a return than on like a unknown Company
or an unknown group of people trying to just
make a random product and that got me I replied
with you know, I Understand where he's coming
from with that. I also take that a step further
on what when making purchases online like I don't
buy anything from eBay I don't Buy anything off
of Amazon that isn't like fulfilled by Amazon
Stuff like that Basically when I buy something
online I like to know who I'm buying it from
and I very rarely like to make that transaction
with the person that I'm Buying the product from
because I like there to be a level of What's
the word I'm looking for security yeah security
trust security trust I guess there's a few words
And accountability like if something goes wrong,
I like to be able to Have someone that I can
actually like go after not somebody that can
just like block me or give me like a bad user
rating so like example of Amazon like screws
me over I can You know talk directly to Amazon
customer service like I usually like to deal
with companies that have customer service And
stuff like that like I will buy Another example
is Apps for my computer I will I've never bought
an app for my computer from like the app creators
website I've usually tried to find it in the
Mac app store. Like if it's in the app store,
I will buy it that way. That way I'm not giving
them my personal credit card information like
Apple's giving them their money. And Apple has
my credit card information. I was just wondering
if you guys have anything like that, like as
far as like making purchases online or if you
guys just you just don't really worried about
it until something actually happens. Mean I tend
not to go to companies that or You mean I'm more
like, you know, like an Amazon or something that
I will purchase from them but if it's someone
who's a little bit more out there, I'm not gonna
give them my credit card information just because
a little bit more so, you know Worried about
where that can go. I I don't really I mean I
buy a lot of stuff on amazon But I don't really
buy many purchases. Otherwise online a great
deal. Um, i've never gotten anything on ebay
But I want to be necessarily against it and i've
done like craigslist purchases before but that's
you know in person Um in a public location not
like someone's house because I don't you know
that that could also be troublesome. Um But no,
I I don't know like I I've gotten stuff on Amazon
which wasn't one of their products but more so
I didn't realize it as I did it at the time I've
done that previously in one time when I forget
what I purchased but it didn't come in the mail
and I Contacted Amazon and they indicated, you
know wasn't from them was from a third party
Didn't realize at the time but I ended up getting
my money refunded anyways Because Amazon's customer
service is pretty for not phenomenal So I I don't
know. I don't have a policy per se Anything I
just if I if I'm gonna get credit card information
though, I do make sure it's at least someone
who is a notable company So it's someone I'm
not worried that my credit card will get stolen
But in this today's day and age if your car gets
stolen, it's pretty easy. It's an easy fix for
the most part. Oh, yeah, totally It's just a
basis best to avoid the hassle, you know like
I have to go and cancel the card and wait for
them to send me a new one and what? I mean like
if you look at recently you never really look
at like target what happened to them and the
you know in that that whole was it last year
or two years ago where you know, They got hacked
and so many people's private information was
was taking credit card information So something
you know just because go to an Amazon or a notable
brand doesn't necessarily mean you're safe So
no, it doesn't but again, there's a there's accountability
there like you'd like to think so Well, it's
a there's a whole like lawsuit and settlement
thing with target. Yeah. Well as far as I'll
depo had the same thing go wrong and They actually
were giving everyone about it. I think it was
a free year of Identity checks and Protection,
you know the same thing happened with the PlayStation
Network when that went down and all that stuff
was gone they you know, they they gave them they
showered everybody in video games and gave them
a free year of identity that protection so It's
it, you know, I'm that's that's more or less
what I'm talking about It's like I'm just more
comfortable with an eating me intermediary there.
Sorry. I woke up like 45 minutes ago that I Like
high on exedrin Yeah, I just like having someone
that's like accountable because then I can my
life is inconvenienced by something that goes
wrong then there's that versus Like my dad buy
stuff off of eBay like all the time and I hear
like horror stories from people making purchases
It's just going like all sorts are wrong Yeah,
my bigger worry with eBay is more so the quality
the product will get in return like I mean especially
if it's something like a movie or something like
that like, you know if I'm buying a lot or Like
that'd be my worry that like just that it's improperly
packaged with something like Amazon I can trust
that they're gonna ship it in You know something
that is sturdy and not just like some envelope
or something like that when you're gonna get
from some Private vendor, you know if you're
gonna get it and the condition is gonna be in
so it's always a concern Not to mention you can't
really be Amazon's prime. No No, no now it's
crazy. Like I can get things in like It takes
less time to get stuff from Amazon now than it
does to order a pizza. It's really insane Get
things like in less than an hour It seems like
I don't even need to go to the grocery store
anymore, which is pretty awesome I wish that
was here, but nothing ever comes to Michigan
anymore Yeah, no only leaves Michigan. Yes, everything's
just leaving They get the bus and they go No,
like I I've bought things off eBay before Back
when PayPal was still partnered with them. I
Don't know how it works now because I haven't
bought anything from them in probably about two
years. I think eBay owns PayPal. I Think they
split off. I don't know like I said, I don't
pay attention to that stuff I don't even I think
I think they split and around that time PayPal
did you know kind of broke off at eBay and They
they were no longer kind of intertwined like
they used to be but that was I would say probably
two years ago that was the last time I bought
something on eBay and most of the time it depended
on what I bought. If I bought like an action
figure or I bought a comic or I bought something
like that I pretty much almost always never had
a problem. If I bought something electronic it
was hit or miss. I bought a car part on there
for my car because I Smacked off my side mirror
on a road cone So I bought one of those on there
for pretty cheap, I think that was the last time
I bought something but um I Did buy some DVDs
and some some video games off the eBay before
trying to save money and I discovered that all
you get is bootlegs So I learned that's not something
I buy from there Pretty much the only place I
I mean I'll buy from like some of these online
toy outlet stores, you know for instance like
your your big bad toy store or You know stuff
like that superhero stuff or Various kind of
geeky sites like that, but for the most part
my main place to go is Amazon Kind of like you
guys for the same reason I just it I've had issues
with discs where I've actually bought one thing
and then the vendor will send me something completely
different. For instance, I tried buying the Star
Trek Q collection where it has all the episodes
where he shows up through TNG, DS9, and Voyager
and they sent me Star Trek Generations. That's
boring. I was like, well, that's sad because
I already owned it. So I got to keep the disk
and I got my money back because I couldn't get
the retailer to Send me the correct item because
that's all I wanted So But yeah, I mean I agree
with you guys for the same reason that you know
I kind of have to trust the place to put my money
there my wife on the other hand if she's trying
to find a bargain will just She'll ask me if
it's okay, and I'll be I'll kind of look it over
make sure it's not a bullshit site, but if Even
then I still don't trust it, but she'll buy it
because she wants to save more in what Amazon's
willing to offer See I don't really I when I'm
when I'm shopping around there's like two places
I go it really depends on looking for book Basically,
I there are two things I look look at it's like
I'm looking for movies or books or video games
or something I compare everything to Amazon if
it's like computer parts I compare it to new
egg But I'll very rarely like go outside of those
Those two things like Best Buy Amazon new egg
and model price. Those are like the four websites.
I'll buy anything from I Can see that The worst
thing that's ever happened to me though to be
honest was something like I think it's happened
like maybe two movies From Amazon they've come
with the spindle like broken. So the disk is
like sliding around inside the case That's always
annoying. I hate that So I know that that happened
with big hero 6 that made me sad So I just put
the DVD on the broken side and then put the blu
-ray on the good side I didn't I didn't sure
I got the Blade Runner series since it was like
the digibook and the corners were bent and but
they ended up basically I called and they refunded
my money, but I kept to keep the this the actual
it wasn't that badly burnt bent, but uh It was
I got a free the special edition of Blade Runner
basically were fronted because they didn't ship
it properly So yeah, it was on like the opposite
of Comcast and like every way possible. Oh I
was going to not bring up Comcast this week,
but I'm sorry had no no it's it's oh, it's all
good No, I yeah Comcast is not Comcast Wow holy
cow. Thanks, Dan No, Amazon is is really great
because I remember I ordered a case for a phone
and There's this like I don't know if you've
ever had them deliver stuff to you Steve But
there's like this besides UPS who is basically
is Amazon's main prime shipper There's another
company that they use sometimes for smaller packages
called Prestige. Is that the one where you see
guys come up in a beat up pickup truck and they
pull it out of the back of their truck and hand
you the package? Yeah. So I remember I was waiting
for a package to arrive and they it was being
sent by Prestige. This is like the second package
I'd ever received from them. And it showed up.
It said it was delivered, but I had been home
like all day. So I was just sitting there waiting,
you know, got to be like eight o 'clock at night
and still no package at my door, though it had
been marked delivered. So I called up Amazon.
I said, hey, listen, I don't know what's going
on. This thing has been marked delivered since
like 1 p .m., but I've been here the entire time.
Nothing's ever been here. They gave me like another
week's worth of prime. They didn't like refund
my money or anything, but they gave me like another
week's worth of prime on top of my subscription
to make up for it. Plus the case ended up being
delivered the next day by the company. And I
called them back and I said, listen, I called
Amazon back and I said, listen, I don't want
this company delivering packages anymore. Not
that there's really anything I think they can
do about that. But I haven't had another package
delivered by Prestige since. So they've all come
UPS, which has been great. Luckily, when I had
them delivered, I had them delivered to my job.
And it was funny because this beat up pickup
truck. pulls up and all the sales people are
getting ready to jump at him and Then the guys
bringing in a package for me And I was like,
wow Amazon it's creepy the bottom of the barrel
there. It's creepy. It's like, why do you have
my package? I don't know you It's like they drop
it off at your house and it's somehow you're
bringing it to me So I did have a little scare
though because I just recently moved, as some
of the listeners may know, but I finally updated
my surround sound speakers. I ordered a set of
Klips quintets and I was here, they were supposed
to be delivered last Friday and I was here all
day and I left for lunch for like an hour. to
go to lunch with my sister and I came back and
I got a notification that said the packages had
been delivered. I was like, I, they're not here.
And so I looked to see and they said that signed
by resident and I was like, okay. And it wasn't
my name. I didn't know the guy's name, who it
was. And so I'm like freaking out. I'm calling
UPS saying, you know, it hasn't been delivered.
I'm calling my relitter to see if they, if like
the way that sold me the house knows. You know
the person's name that signed for the package
or whatever thinking that maybe they got dropped
off at my old house And well what happened is
I guess my new neighbor I think he works out
at his home like buying and selling stuff and
so UPS has like a that's one of their main stops
is my neighbor's house and I guess he had stopped
the UPS guy stopped here when I was gone and
it was like super windy that day and he's Worried
about packages blowing away. So he left him at
my neighbor's house and the neighbors signed
for him. So I, you know, all said and done, I
got my packages and everything was fine, but
it was, it was just a little adventure. Cause
I was like, I've been waiting a week for these.
Wow. So it's all good now. Cause now I know that
his name is Tom and he's a main UPS stop. And
sometimes maybe my packages might get stopped,
might get dropped off there instead of being
dropped off at the back door, but he's a nice
old guy. Don't know I kind of trust him already
That's good. It's like I knocked on the door
and I was like you didn't get any UPS packages
mentions. Oh, yeah, they're in the garage. I'll
go I'll go give them to you So Anyways want to
move on to something more interesting Sure Is
that the the Batman for Superman trailer that
is the Batman or Superman trailer, it's not the
greatest getting yanked everywhere It's currently
working there. So I think I'm gonna wait to actually
Is it is that a hand one like someone hold I
think so it's yeah, it's like a cheeky It's not
the it's not awful, but it sounds like it is
cool. Oh Wait, I'm gonna download it But it's
longer than 20 seconds. So that's not for all
we know this it could end up being like the Godzilla
to the first Godzilla trailer Which was awesome,
and then they pulled it so I Found another one,
but it looks like it's mashed up between other
things Do you want to talk about the 22nd one
real quick? Yeah, we can do that So Mean, I know
part of its recycled Is there any new words I
don't remember hearing words there's nothing
in it. It's just it's just it zones in and then
you have The Superman suit and then it goes to
the bat suit And the only in the logo. Yeah,
then the only new footage there is the bat suit.
Mm -hmm Yeah, I just think like we don't know
like When I clicked on it, I didn't realize it
was going to be like 20 seconds And I just I
don't know I put this on twitter, but I feel
like it should be It should your trailer should
be longer than saying the title it should take
More time to watch your trailer than it does
to say the title of your movie. I don't know
if that's the case with this So it's just I don't
know like it's getting kind of ridiculous the
teasers for the teasers for the treat teasers
It's it's just no it's just when is too many
teasers too much Think you should have a teaser
trailer and then like a normal trailer and then
like maybe your last trailer And that's all you
really need. You don't think you need to go beyond
that. It just here's the thing It's interesting
working at a movie theater. You guys think that
these movies have Well, I don't know about you
Dan. I'm sorry and I'd see what I mean to put
you on a spotlight but a lot of people think
these these these movies have a ton of trailers
and it's broken down between Star Wars and Like
Avengers you guys think it has all these trailers
But really what it comes down to is the way I
look at it as a trailer something that plays
in the theater and then there's TV spots Which
there's an overburden. There's an overabundance
of TV spots for Avengers right now Okay, I'll
give you that but in terms of trailers Officially,
there's only been two. I know that like movie
websites and everything say there's been three
but there's only been two the studio only lists
two because there's the there's the first one
that we saw with them like that everyone remembers
and then there's an extended version of that
same trailer that's still considered one trailer
by the studio and then there's trailer two which
is the most like recent one that has vision in
it but there are other movies out there that
get like six or seven or eight trailers like
eight different trailers And they're not superhero
movies. It's it's bizarre And I can't I can't
name one off the top of my head, but I see them
like all the time They they litter are the hard
drives at or the main server is just filled with
them But it's it's interesting. But yeah TV spots
can be an over, you know an overburden, but Yeah,
I I don't know how I feel about the the tease
of the The tease of the tea. When did they even
start? I know I feel like that was like recently
with like the Marvel stuff Didn't they start
it? Well James Bond you said has done it for
a long time and they've always had little things
here and there where they've like when casino
they've tended like Have their first little tease
before without giving much of anything away,
especially when they got casino royale I thought
there was like a really weird teaser for that,
but I think it I don't know last few years. It's
really exploded with just the DM Marvel has been
kind of notorious for it, but I don't know. I
can't think of anything specifically that kind
of Caused it a lot I mean even like like the
Hunger Games where it's like its first teaser
trailer and it's just a symbol of the Hunger
Games Transforming like that's not that's just
an image. I don't know Those trailers at work
are called they're called logo reveals. They're
not even like I mean they they're labeled as
trailers, but they they're like it says like
Hunger Games logo reveal And it's like how is
this and it's just some voiceover from the movie
it's yeah, and it's always weird especially when
it's a logo that's been revealed because the
books been out for like five years, so it's like
you're not really Revealing anything. You're
just putting it in trailer form or movie form.
But yeah, I don't know it it just It seems to
be I think maybe since like tinder was announced
and or you know with like the six seconds I feel
like that's when it really started like getting
like the six second trailer I'm in was a days
of future past remember doing it last year, too
They had the 15 second like preview to their
trailer and then I don't know it's just getting
less than less It's almost like people are having
a contest to see who's gonna have to leave it
Yeah, the least amount of content in their tracks
Which is I don't know. I just I get it. It's
just a huge marketing ploy, but it's just I think
this whole thing dovetails into the the over
saturation of trailers Right that we were just
kind of hinting at with like TV spots and whatnot
I feel like that and I mentioned this on Twitter
when when Steve and Ryan Cox 20 we're talking
about it I think I've said this before on here
I think it's like feeling like something is like
overplayed or oversaturated in this day and age.
I feel like that is partially our fault. It is.
Because my Twitter feed like blows up with is
full of Star Wars talk right now. And if I don't
have the filters in there, it's full of Avengers
talk and eventually be full of Batman talk. But
that's because of who I follow and the news and
like stuff like how my Twitter feed is curated
like that stuff is gonna be like over saturated
so like if one new TV spot gets announced like
half of my Twitter feed for the day it's gonna
be like breakdowns of that new TV spot or links
to said trailer and it's gonna feel like it's
all the time but it's like it's still just one
it's like one TV spot that just overflows by
Twitter feed for the day and that's my you know
that's on that's on me it's not see I don't watch
a lot of TV so I don't see I don't know how often
you know Marvel plays TV spots for Avengers on
TV especially because even even when I didn't
have a block people were talking about you know
all they're gonna play something during like
the Super Bowl like and you know that's like
a one -time -a -year thing right like that's
not an everyday occurrence or just trying to
hit like a mass market of stuff I don't I don't
know how you guys feel, but do you feel somewhat
responsible for, if you start feeling overwhelmed
by something, do you feel somewhat responsible
for how your news and information is curated?
I took it upon myself to cut down on the Avengers
exposure by blocking keywords like Avengers,
Age of Ultron, Avengers 2. So I don't see anything
related to Avengers in my feed right now and
I have it for like the last week My when I was
referring to over saturation mine not necessarily
the amount but just the length that it occurs
like when Like you have when trailers are announced
earlier and earlier and earlier. It's more so
like yeah It's easy. Like you said, it's easy
to avoid stuff. You just want to click on the
article. So I I don't feel like Oversaturated
in that instance like you know, there's a lot
of Star Wars stuff right now But give it a day
and it's gone away really if you're not on Twitter
at that moment It tends to it tends to fester
the next big thing comes up My more she was more
so that fact that will get it just it's the you
know used not back in the day way back when like
I felt like you didn't get trailers for something
that was two years away, but it seems like now
it's the buildup to trailers is Before anything
even begin shooting and then it's like some sort
of like logo reveal and then you have like every
little like element of a movie Becomes like a
news story or release. It's just kind of keeping
it in the in the lexicon in some ways so that's
the kind of the over saturation I was referring
to but III don't know if I think it's I went
on like last year I tried to like avoid trailers
as much as possible specifically for like interstellar
and It was rather kind of easy at the end of
the day like the only time that was really hard
to avoid trailers was like going to the theater
so I do think there's it we do do it to ourselves
like you mentioned we kind of We keep going fishing
for we keep fishing in the same pond and then
we're surprised when we keep getting the same
stuff So it is kind of a we are the product of
it ourselves. Really. I think it works when It's
a movie that's gonna be more obscure And what
I mean by that is like, you know, you you say
you mentioned interstellar or you know any really
any film It doesn't if it's not your regular
wheelhouse. Like if you're somebody that's geared
towards like the the Star Wars or the DC Marvel
type stuff it's gonna I think that it One you
see more of it because of that because you're
more into that that subject but also it's I think
that's because the way the the theater viewing
has gone everything's pretty much a comic book
film everybody's you know, it's the it's replaced
the craze of all the the undead or the Vampires
or any of that other stuff. So it's right now.
This is the big thing So they're trying to cash
grab it, you know while they still can it but
I think that it kind of hurts it too because
like you said releasing a trailer two years of
just a logo or or Just something just to have
it out there. I think that it kind of ultimately
Really hurts it because it kind of fizzles out
sooner. Well that I think is the studio's problem
because It is the studio but it's it's marvel.
I mean in this particular case, right? Let's
look at if we have to look at the the two I think
the two biggest ones that we're looking at right
now are You're looking at you've got to look
at dc the dc movies and you got to look at the
marvel movies because they're the guys that got
out there and announced an entire slate of movies
Between now and like the end of the century or
you know the decade, right? And so they have
to keep that stuff like in everyone's mindset.
So they're slowly don't like we made fun of Batman
like DC, you know announcing Batman versus Superman
and saying this is this is you know, then I'm
just gonna be Well, yeah, and then it's going
to be Ben Affleck and they every week it felt
like there was some like new news story or something.
We made fun of them for that. But then Marvel
turns around and does the same thing and nobody
says anything about it. Like they they they put
themselves in this hole and they have to keep
they have to keep they have to keep it in in
the lexicon or the zeitgeist of like the for
the fan like the fans are going to follow it.
Sure, but. It's kind of I at one point I you
know, I do agree that you know, just Marvel does
Avengers need another trailer I mean or is it
like coke and Pepsi like they don't need marketing
like you put out a poster in a movie theater
and people are gonna know to go see it or like
a you know here and there but Then again, I don't
see a lot of commercials I don't know how often
coke and Mountain Dew have commercials you were
even if they do anymore like I feel like some
of that stuff is ingrained, you know, like does
You do like it. It's surprising like to keep
that level. You do need to You do need to keep
it out there in a lot of ways like coke does
advertise Coke spends more advertising on than
anyone else in any of their competitors Which
is why they're like the biggest company one of
the biggest companies in the world And I mean
you think you can go based upon just you know,
what your you know your your Brand recognition,
but I think you do need to sustain that in some
ways I mean, that's why coke is like look at
you know has so many sponsorships with certain
people or whatever but uh, um, I don't know like
it it the thing is though it is It's yielded
positive results. So it's as much as we want
would want to say that, you know It's oversaturated
and you know people don't hurt them, but it really
hasn't they've it hasn't hurt them at all It's
proving to work. So I you know, it's they keep
breaking box office records I mean and what Avengers
age of Ultron is gonna probably make more than
the last one which is you know, it's kind of
insane so I don't know like it and Part of it
too is not just a lot of it is free marketing
that they don't even it's people Needing in websites
relying on them to fund their own, you know needing
their own hits those clickbait articles that
are just Not even designed by the studios or
just people looking to get news and stuff like
that So it's interesting is like when it comes
to looking at something like Twitter, you know
I follow a variety of like, you know geek based
stuff But also just more so like art house stuff
and then like sports and stuff So my Twitter
feed will be it'll be a random comedy. You'll
see like things go into different even as in
flows like last month the big thing was like
it follows was a huge thing and then Now the
kind of geekness is kind of taken over and it's
been you know, a lot of Avengers talk So I think
it I think it balances out like and it tends
to you know It there'll be moments where there's
a lot of stuff and then there'll be a new focus
a new thing to talk about so I don't know it
it's Don't know. It's kind of you damned if you
do you damned if you don't type of situation
Well that and even the Avenger stuff it wasn't
the Avengers stuff didn't leak out until I Mean
Avengers 2 was announced in like 2012 or something
like that So it to only be just now getting slapped
in the face of that stuff three years later.
That's not bad Yeah, I mean I kind of I I had
it I was gonna try to do the thing where like
I never watched trailers, but I don't know I
kind of recognize the fact that I kind of do
like watching trailers and and there's there's
some Part of the experience in some ways It's
more so the thing I have more of an issue with
and when it's like you're just you're giving
me nothing and you're making it You're trying
to act like it's something so if that's that's
more of my issue. I think like when it's just
like a hey look a costume Yeah, I think I think
I've taken the the stance with with trailers
is that I'm gonna watch the first one like on
my own Because I, like you, I like trailers.
My joke with going to the movies used to be,
and to a certain extent still is, I come for
the trailers, but I stay for the movie. Because
I, it's one of the things about my theater that
kind of irked me when I started working there
is that they only play three trailers. I love
going and sitting through like six, seven, eight
trailers before the movie starts. But it's...
Took it upon myself to watch like the first trailer
for anything and Kind of judged like I don't
I don't ever look at the trailer and be like,
oh that movie's gonna be bad I look at like I
don't know what that trailer told me, you know,
like like is that a good trailer? Like I kind
of like judge trailers like a little mini movies
Rather than As you know, does that really interest
me and see the whole thing because generally
if a title doesn't interest me too much I or
like the director or the actor or something that
I'm not really gonna give it like a shot like
there's there's so many things that cross my
mind before I even Decide whether I'm gonna watch
a trailer for something that the trailer has
no influence on whether or not I'm going to see
a movie Yeah, that's same for me like I didn't
well I tend to watch like everything that's my
problem, but Yeah, like I tend to like if it's
a Say like a cohen brothers movies coming out.
I i'm gonna watch it because I love the cohen
brothers I tend to not watch seek out the trailer,
but i'll seek out the trailer for For like avengers.
I don't know why that is but I just I guess because
there is like an art to make in a trailer and
I do think When it comes to a movie like in avengers,
there's more it's I guess there's more of a that
geek factor to it where In you having the expectation
because it's coming from a property, you know
Or something that's brand new and it's a little
bit different So I like you and that trailer
is never a make or break for me But I do I do
like to think there is an art to it and I do
like seeing it when it's done properly Speaking
of the the the trailers and I'm just this is
just reading what people have said about the
trailer And I kind of feel this way after I kind
of watched it that Released leaked whatever trailer
of that member Superman. Yeah, okay. It's I actually
downloaded it so It ain't going anywhere. I think
everybody else is doing the same thing at this
point and all the sites already have ripped images
and everything else. It is not in HD, obviously,
but it's that teaser from Comic -Con at the very
end is on the very end of the same trailer. We're
like staring at each other or whatever. Yeah,
except it's there's a little bit of actual dialogue
in there, which I heard earlier today. after
the Star Wars trailer dropped By comparison of
having watched the two the Star Wars trailers
infinitely better I Mean granted is still not
in HD, but I I still feel that the Star Wars
trailers stronger Well, I wonder can we talk
about the since the Batman vs. Superman trailers
just a bootleg? Yeah, can we talk about the Star
Wars trailer? Yes the I'm just gonna come right
out here. I'm probably on the the negative side
here. My you know, my opinions are usually not
the correct ones, but I This new trailer. Well,
I thought it was cool and interesting. It didn't
do anything for me. I like the first trailer
better. I I'm just coming down on that side of
it Because I the the scene in the first trailer
where the Millennium Falcon shows up that lands
for me like every time There wasn't a scene in
this one that gave me the feels and I don't know
I know the one scene that everyone's talking
about is giving them the feels and I can understand
like why but that scene doesn't do anything for
me the scene the falcon on screen again for the
first time and like What is it almost 30 years?
Like yeah that I mean outside like the special
edition releases Seeing it on screen again new
For the first time in like 30 years that got
Gave me the feels but this new trailer well cool
and doesn't do anything to diminish me from like
mine to see the movie You're being excited about
it. It just doesn't do anything for me So I think
I think the first one did the did the job of
effectively teasing The film I think the second
one is more so building on just showing you more
of the what's in the universe for the the new
The the new film. It's not necessarily anything
Yeah, and I get what you're saying. There's not
as much grab To it and the way the Millennium
Falcon is presented in the other one is just
It yeah, it does bring back the nostalgia kick
and it just reminds you of what made Star Wars
great And they I think they kind of tacked on
a little bit of that at the end when they added
in Han and Chewie. Yep And I think that's really
the only saving grace of the entire trailers
is seeing that nostalgia kick again, but I I
do like the the aspects of you know, the fallen
Star Destroyer and in the desert and you know
the giant army of stormtroopers and oh Without
a doubt there's a lot to like I'm not I didn't
hate the trailer by any means I'm like I I liked
everything that I saw I just maybe I'm just not
a human Need I didn't get the feels like everybody
else did for this trailer. I just saw I was like
man This looks really cool. Even my wife made
a comment about the Star Destroyer. She was like,
that's really cool. I was like But I wasn't but
I wasn't not expecting something like that I
guess the way I look at it like probably the
first one had me more excited But this one has
me more intrigued because it has me asking more
questions. I think it it I mean, it's hard to
like like like you mentioned Mike like Seeing
the you know, this Millennium Falcon like again
for the first time. It's hard to get that again
It's hard to recapture that same feeling but
I think what this effectively does is it's more
so kind of just setting the stage and making
you kind of question what exactly is going on
and what I've liked about this series from the
beginning and I really like the trailer a lot
is that it's it's not focusing on the Nostalgia
too much. It is trying to put the primary focus
of these new characters out there. I mean obviously
you have the Luke talking but still you don't
really see him It's more that these new characters
and it does seem like with these trailers nowadays
that it's almost like they know Obviously that
people are gonna like freeze frame every little
second of it and they're they just like dump
in as many little like Questions or things in
there every you know, it's just like a barrage
of images and which is not necessarily a bad
thing It's just it's kind of intriguing to see
and I don't know. I liked it. I'm I just love
They're getting the look right and it's it's
like feeling like we're seeing the Star Wars
Universe in the right way So because of that,
I'm looking forward to it. I mean, I don't know
like comparing it to the last one. It's There
there I mean there are similar images, but I
was I was Sold from that first image of just
like the Star Destroyer in the background with
the music It's just I don't know to me. It's
yeah, it's all gravy at this point. So Yeah,
well you you talked about the look and I'm pretty
sure I've said this before but I've when they
started production I remember one of the things
that they were talking about that JJ was talking
about was he was trying to make because he's
really good at like Super 8 looks like something
that could have been made in the 80s. I mean
outside of the special effects heaviness of it
Yeah, he's like Tarantino. He's very good at
homaging and like taking cues from other directors
and kind of make his own thing But I remember
one of the things he said that he was setting
out to do was to make it look like episode seven
was shot two or three years after episode six.
And the special effects aside, I believe I feel
like he's achieved that. I know there's a lot
of practical effects and stuff like that in this.
So that works out to his favor. But this does
not look like. I don't think I'm going to be.
Yeah, I don't think I'm going to be seeing floating
people in this movie. which is one of the things
that I constantly see when I'm watching the prequel
movies is just floating people because the light
sources are all wrong for those scenes. So. But
can we this trailer and the other one? I don't
feel like anything's been spoiled now. Yeah,
I think that's like for me, I I feel like that's
a common theme. In what I've seen lately for
a lot of movies like I don't feel like a lot
of trailers There was a point in time for me
that trailers could be awfully spoilery Like
they were basically like retelling you the movie
like the Cinderella trailer for example was just
like a miniature version of the Cinderella story
But I like this one I don't think bond gives
too much away Even even to a certain extent,
you know, Jurassic Park, everyone knows the formula
for Jurassic Park, but I don't think Jurassic
World exactly gives everything away. Even like
Avengers, I don't feel like it gives too much
away. The one trailer I will say it feels like
gives away everything is the new turn data trailer,
which seems to like give away. Oh, my God. I
have not seen that. I have not seen the new one.
So I'm glad I and I saw that exact same sentiment
shooting around the Internet. So I'm glad I haven't
seen it. I. Have to say I didn't see that coming
Because it's a really dumb idea I was I was like
and I was geared up to see the damn movie and
now I'm like, what's the point? I I mean I I'm
still gonna see it but Yeah, I would Mike I would
highly avoid that trailer. Yes I I will I I was
excited after you know seeing the first trailer
because I like the I like anything involving
time travel So I like the premise that they were
setting up with the first trailer So I after
what you guys have just said what I saw shoot
around my Twitter feed when that trailer came
out I am thorough. I'm going to avoid the second
trailer. I mean it could all be just like like,
you know, I Know setting you up for something
and end up pulling, you know Just the wall over
your eyes or something like that. But it if it
does seem like it's completely ruining Like a
major plot element of the story, but sometimes
like you think that it ends up not being the
case But this does seem that way Has anyone seen
the ant man trailer? I have I have I can't I
can't not laugh at the end scene With thomas
to train. Yes, that was hilarious. I can't not
laugh with when that when when that plays Speaking
of I I put this on Twitter and I was just we
can put this out there for the for the listeners
to over under on him becoming Going giant sized
at the end in the movie at some point Giant size
and naked or just nine times because those are
two Well, I'm gonna say giant size because this
is a Marvel movie after all yeah after daredevil
over under I'll go I'll go like you know 70 %
chance. It's gonna happen in some some way because
I think I I think it's gonna happen because then
they can make the sequel a giant man Steve what
do you think I? Don't know enough about the mythos
to know well a man. He's had a ton of different
personas he Obviously do his name he has the
ability to make himself really small But then
he goes through an identity crisis, and he's
actually able to go the other way with the tech
and make himself really big So I was just basically
it's just you know Do you think that's going
to be a thing in the next movie like maybe at
the end is like a teaser or? But I could see
that I That was probably my favorite part about
the whole trailer was the Thomas the train thing,
but I Feel like I said I can't I said this about
Said this about a lot of movies after seeing
Pacific Rim but like Guardians last year was
like last year's Pacific Rim for me I didn't
know what to expect going into that movie and
I had a lot of fun with it Ant -man I think might
be that movie this year. Like I don't know what
to expect from Ant -Man Yeah, it's I don't know
I like this one much more than the first trailer
because I felt the first trailer was far too
self -serious and you like the fact that they're
kind of Yeah more that more the comedy more the
interesting visuals, but I don't know I still
like the thing that bugged me so far It's just
I'm not a big fan of look at the yellow jacket.
I just find he looks really just really corny
like a bad like Power Rangers villain or something
like that. Just doesn't look all that fantastic.
But uh, I don't know I'm I'm I thought last year
Guardians might be the first like misstep for
Marvel more not more so just box office wise
and I'm kind of thinking Yeah, a little bit,
you know a little bit kind of way off on that
one So, I don't know I kind of make is the Marvel
brand strong enough I see it probably doing as
well as like that first Thor or something like
that But I guess it's gonna depend on word -of
-mouth I think it's gonna be better than Thor
mainly because of where Marvel is now in terms
of like movies I've made the comparison to Marvel
the Marvel Studios flag being kind of More or
less synonymous with like the same type thing
as like the Pixar lamp Yeah, give or take right
you put the Marvel stamp on a lot of people don't
even know anymore that the X -Men movies they
some people like I hear in comments that you
know They think the X -Men movies are made by
Marvel Studios, and they're not Or like spider
-man so they that that Marvel flag has become
synonymous with like quality to some people Kind
of like how Pixar is like that lamp is synonymous
with, you know, animated quality. And I've made
the thing. I think I think Ant -Man may end up
being Marvel's cars at worst. That's still not
I mean, that's not a bad thing, because cars
is highly marketable. Yeah. So kids love cars.
So as long as it's not as bad as cars, too, I'll
be happy. Makes me sad. Anyways. Anyone else
want to say anything about trailers? I'm good.
The other thing I want to bring up about, again,
jumping back to the Star Wars thing. For some
reason, people were thinking that Luke's line
that's in the movie was recorded or was reused
from Return of the Jedi. Even though part of
the line was reused, I can't see how it was the
same, like just moved. Because they at the end
of it he says and you have it for like the force.
Oh, yeah, I don't think that was really I don't
think that was I know that was new like but I've
been seeing like all kinds of weird reports from
people saying I think that's Really, you know,
I did some digging and I it's I checked and it's
from the return of the Jedi I'm like how if it's
the last word we call those clickbait articles
Yeah, well, I didn't I know I'm just saying people
I was seeing on social media I wasn't I didn't
actually read any of those articles I mean you
kind of shy away from news at this point, especially
with seeing Jared Leto In his freaky ass looking
Joker. I haven't seen that yet. Yeah, it's floating
around It's been going around all day because
it's been you know, Batman Star Wars It's a competition
Yeah, I I don't know. Maybe it's they're using
similar dialogue. That just could be just like
an homage to the well It's the line if I remember
correctly, it's it's the line right up until
the last bit which doesn't mean he's not saying
it he's just he could be just be saying it again
like It did sound like it did sound Surprisingly
more so like the younger Mark Hamill than I expected
but uh, I don't know I think that's why people
were thinking that it wasn't him Like in in modern
Then again the last time I saw Mark Hamill was
when he was on flash and he was basically being
the Joker again So yeah, clearly it has nothing
to do with his age, you know He's just damn good
with his voice We need you to sound more like
Luke and less like a psychopath How do I do that?
So So I'm going to daredevil. Yeah, that's where
I wanted to go cuz Dan hinted at it for a second.
I just watched the first episode like an hour
ago. What'd you think? I was surprised. How so?
I mean one, my wife didn't really care too much
for it. She was kind of like in and out of consciousness
during it because it wasn't the flash. I liked
it because I think that the story seemed to flow
a little bit better with including the Kind of
third party people in it that are in this story,
but they're not actually In the story if you
kind of get what I'm saying like it's not like
villain of the week like Gotham And it seems
like the budget is in the quality of the the
shots is so much better For especially for being
a Netflix show compared to watching say Gotham
or agents of shield And even to some degree some
of the CW stuff is this your first I'm just curious.
Is this your first Netflix series? Yes, okay
that explains one I don't None of the other contents
interested me in the slightest even to truthfully
this didn't even interest me I just I was looking
for something to watch that was an hour long
and That was the only thing that kind of popped
in my head at that moment. So I figured I'd give
it a shot anyway. And I was kind of surprised,
like I said, for it being a Netflix series to
see it look better than something a major TV
station has. Yeah, it seems more coherent, you
could say, than a lot of the stuff that's on
TV. What do you think, Dan? I loved it. My biggest
worry with doing a series like this is when connected
to, especially with the idea of creating a semantic
universe, is that you're going to have a lot
of things that are very stylistically the same.
And I was worried that would happen with this.
But I love the fact that it didn't really hinder
just the creation of it at all. And it looks
and feels like a Daredevil series should. certainly
in it The word that kind of comes to mind is
adult not just in the violence the language but
just the plotting of it just that it the way
it treats the audience with a element of respect
that I feel like you don't necessarily get with
the other superhero shows where You know a lot
of the drama is based upon and a lot of like,
you know the major conflict are based upon like
really complicated in like in some ways uninteresting
ideas of just corporate in Political corruption
that you know the idea of basically, you know
You know using the Marvel event of Avengers and
how that people are taking advantage of that
unlike the corporate angle and how that Influences
this series but in a really cool way and you
know acting is phenomenal like universally around,
you know From you know, Charlie Cox as Daredevil
and of course, you know Fulton Reed as a foggy
Nelson though I did take me some time to get
kind of used to him. But you know, I liked it
a great deal I do feel like the last I think
it peaks at episode 11 in the foggy Nelson verse
Murdoch's episode in the last two episodes I
just don't get that moment. But uh, and then
obviously that the stunt choreography is Phenomenal
and I think it's a benefit of having a series
that doesn't have to worry about ratings and
doesn't have to worry about getting cancelled
it it can make a Comprehensive story and like
you know budget is a huge thing and it feels
very cinematic in the best ways so Well, like
I said before I can I don't have to say anything
I can just pose a question and let Dan answer
it I have yeah, no, I agree with what you said
Dan I I think it treats the audience with a certain
level of intelligence Or it expects the audience
to be somewhat intelligent watching the show
One of the things I and I Steve my wife won't
watch it, but that's because it's she finds it
too violent She made it through the first three
episodes which there is a weird Side note here.
There's a weird tonal shift because I've started
re -watching it again The first three or four
episodes are the most violent of the entire series
and Then it becomes just a big like beat -em
-up like there isn't as much I'm gonna say gore
but not necessarily gore I don't really know
that the right term for it because it's not like
it's not like saw or anything like that, but
Yeah, my wife watches saw so that's That doesn't
bother her the slightest. It's the fact he doesn't
have superpowers and he's wearing a costume.
That's what bothers her. I love his costume.
It's funny. I thought I would not like it, but
it fits. I don't know. I've ended up liking the
black costume more so than the Daredevil one.
In watching the show, I kept thinking... Why
isn't this because I, you know, we've got on
TV now, we've got The Walking Dead and we've
got Hannibal on NBC. I kept looking for adult
content that would make this not eligible for
at least like prime time 10 p .m. you know, TV.
And with a few like edits here for like, as I
just talked about, like Broken Bones and a couple
of door slams Or maybe a scene lasting a little
longer than it then it comfortably should No,
this is not a knock against Netflix in any way
this is a knock against television studios in
general right like NBC ABC CBS like I see no
reason why this particular property this particular
show, you know couldn't have Made it on TV as
is the thing is I feel like if it if it had been
developed with broadcast TV in mind We would
not have gotten this Because they have to play
to we'll call it the lowest common denominator,
which is one of the reasons why shield is a wreck
Because it's just designed for Like a jack -of
-all -trades master of none because it doesn't
know what the hell it wants to do on a weekly
basis Or who it wants to cater to This one this
show is designed to cater to a very specific
group of people kind of like a show you'd like
like Walking Dead or Hannibal or Game of Thrones
like it's designed to cater to a very specific
group of people, but I have to imagine that I
mean one of the reasons it's got picked up is
because Marvel wanted full series orders for
The into all five shows, right? Daredevil, Luke
Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and the Defenders.
They wanted full series pickups because they
wanted to be able to tell the story and I have
to imagine it right this time that ABC and NBC
and possibly CBS or maybe some other networks
are like kicking themselves for not taking that
chance. And I thought I thought about it for
a little bit because you know Netflix is made
for the binge watching thing so they were able
to tell like a cohesive story that fed from one
episode to the other but walking dead does that
on a weekly basis and Hannibal did it and Game
of Thrones does it like people are willing to
watch intelligent stories if you give them something
intelligent to watch and In my opinion daredevil
ruined flash and agents of shield and arrow because
it showed me what What a competent superhero
TV show could be you mean by the cohesive story
the cohesive story that the way it's it's the
way it looks like yeah sure it was expensive,
but It's not villain of the week either. Oh,
there's they're they're telling a story and they
don't have to rely on it But I wonder how much
of that it also is it's gonna be around for 13
episodes and not 22 Yeah, and it doesn't have
to doesn't have to feel the necessary the need
to kind of tell you everything up front or like
Set its stage so you kind of have a complete
understanding of this character Like it doesn't
really touch on the origin until well It doesn't
fully touch on it and probably for the entire
series But I think that's it piggybacks and picks
it picks its moments that make sense for the
character like and I also just love how they
handled like daredevils powers and just you know
little nods here and there and you know, you
only he doesn't really you know do the daredevil
movie route and kind of just give you this radar
sense of what he looks like but kind of just
more subtle hints and you know, even just the
way he enters into a room and You know, I think
like you mentioned with storytelling it just
there's no fact to this to the story everything
matters and it will Take the opportunity to build
up characters And I hope like arrow looks at
this and realizes you don't have to give a character
superpowers to make them interesting you can
actually just give them make them an interesting
character and Give them a good story and they
can be an interesting. So I just hope that happens
Because I feel like you know all the characters
in this in the series and like the bad guys aren't
your Kingpin isn't this guy who's just plainly
evil. His motivations are very Legitimate and
like he's very closely tied to like the the motivations
of their devil It's just their methods are very
different in the no one's plainly evil. No one's
plainly good it's all you know elements of gray
and it a lot of people made the comparison to
like the wire and just the way it builds its
universe and I think it's it's obviously much
different, but it it does seem like it takes
a lot of cues from that especially from like
the Ben Irelia character and the way he gets
involved with everything so But yeah, I will
say this I I felt and This is not a spoiler at
all Steve or it might be because you might be
looking for it now You want to take your headphones
off for like five seconds I really like I like
the show. I have really nothing bad to say about
it I feel like the fight scenes like peaked in
episode 2 Yeah, I could it's hard to top that
moment. It really is though. I did really like
It's hard to how do I can't see this without
there's a Showdown that is a very honorable fight
as they mentioned I thought was was also quite
good and also the taxi fight that I like it's
not nearly as extensive as that but I just love
the like the The way they use the camera and
the the overall like the song that they have
so I do agree with you the best probably the
most standout sequences in that episode, but
it which I think Is kind of the why I feel like
the last two episodes aren't necessarily Finishing
on the highest note because it just it doesn't
reach that level that it hits So like right out
of the gate within that second episode Also,
the weird thing is and I'm not I kept I was looking
for this is another reason why there was a weird
I feel like there was a weird tonal shift because
I And I'm pretty sure you guys might have followed
this a little bit There what early on there was
a showrunner shift Yeah, to guard left, right?
Yeah, he left to go to Sinister six over at Sony
and now he's doing the spider -man movie for
Marvel. So I feel like that was the plan all
along, but that's a different story. But he wrote
the first four episodes, I think, and I don't
know how much goes into writing as far as plotting
out how much control you have over what's in
each scene visually, but... Stephen tonight who
did Spartacus for stars, which I also thought
was a Started out kind of rough. It actually
got a lot better as it went on Anyways, he took
over after the fourth episode as showrunner.
So I and like I said, there was that total shift
in terms of the violence So I'm wondering if
one of those If they just had no more need for
the violence at that point because they had already
established themselves as this is adults We're
beating you overhead the head with this adult
content and they you know They did it for four
episodes and then they didn't feel the need to
necessarily do it again or if it had something
to do with changing the showrunners, but Was
episode not to give anything away, but was episodes
for the car door episode I think so and I think
that's where it peaks. Yeah, like that's the
after that I don't think I also noticed it's
never him. It's never daredevil. It's the villains
that are doing the most violent thing As it should
be Yeah, well, yeah because there's also the
well there is that I don't want to spoil anything
for Steve or anyone who maybe hasn't watched
it but there is that you know a little bit of
torture sequence that he has an episode to that's
okay that I guess that's where that's but that's
not as bad as the other like when I that's I
almost forgot because like I sometimes I'll watch
shows and if I'm trying to get my wife to watch
and be like okay don't look at this you know
yeah hurt your eyes child um but it's uh yeah
I that was the one scene that almost got away
and I was like oh wait hold on This happens and
so she like looked away during that one I like
but that one didn't even register next to like
the other stuff that I knew was in Even in that
episode, I think No, no, no, it's episode three
that that happens in Yeah, I think the other
thing too is it I feel like it does a really
good job of again. He has no superpowers. This
is a guy who He you know, he doesn't have super
strength he doesn't have He's not invulnerable
or anything like that. And I think they do a
really good job, especially in that fight scene
at the end of episode two of showing you that
he gets tired. He gets worn down because he's
just a guy. And that was refreshing to see, too,
because I don't even think Arrow does that very
well, because I mean, Oliver will get the crap
kicked out of him. And then five minutes later
in the same episode, he'll be fine. My only question
is like after the series is what? What is Marvel
planning on doing with the TV series? Because
with Civil War coming up, the other Avengers
movies, are they going to combine these worlds?
Because I just couldn't imagine... It's hard
for my mind to comprehend seeing Daredevil in
the Avengers, considering the world he's coming
from. I mean, it happens in the comics, of course,
but it just... Knowing the action sequences that
we're used to him seeing and then seeing him
into... That you would see in the Avengers. I
just I don't know how that's gonna work if they're
gonna go down that route I know they haven't
really said anything at this point. Well, there
was a funny thing There was a rumor that shot
around it. I saw on slash film that the defenders
May show up in infinity war part two Yeah as
like the four of them to together because the
article also goes on to mention that the Avengers
will look very different by that time Because
certain contracts will be over plus. They're
also introducing like spider -man black panther
dr. Strange I Personally I wouldn't be surprised
to see dr. Strange show up in the Netflix series
Mostly because dr. Strange is set like Hell's
Kitchen is also his backyard and It's they cast
Benedict Cumberbatch who is You know a TV actor
as well So I would be surprised to see him make
the transition to to help further connect both
Series Yeah, and it does seem like with that
said though this scene looking at like how the
season was ending that it does trend towards
the more comic book element and kind of getting
into the more the mystical element of Daredevil
and it definitely a lot of ties to The lore of
iron fist specifically that that it seems to
hint at so it's I'm curious to see like how this
is all gonna tie together because I Feel like
a lot of the leftover threads in in daredevil
were set up for stuff leading to the defenders
Yeah, and kind of like the cosmic cube for you
know, phase one. Yeah, and they've also said
that the reason You know Jessica Jones and the
occasion stuff didn't show up in daredevil is
because those characters weren't cast until they
were almost wrapped under devil So they said
don't be surprised to see Foggy or Matt even
show up in Jessica Jones or Luke Cage or something
like that. So those series will become more cohesive
the farther they get along. It's only a matter
of time before they make them cross over with
Agents of S .H .I .E .L .D. I cannot imagine
that. I just don't think that Agents of S .H
.I .E .L .D. will go over to the Netflix. those
actors will go over the other way. I don't know
if I want anything connected to Agents of Shield.
I mean, there's really no reason to. But you
know that eventually they're going to try to,
to probably try and save Agents of Shield. I
don't know, because I get to see Netflix saying
no. I don't know if they have what their power
is in this situation. I don't think they have
any of the power really. I think Marvel has all
the cards. Yeah, I I mean I will obviously it's
that it's it's more I think Marvel has all the
cards It's just that they wanted someone to pay
for the series up front and I'm pretty sure Netflix
is going man. I'm glad they delivered Rather
than rather than giving us an agents of shield.
I'm like man really glad they delivered so well,
and if you saw but like Netflix's subscription
went up like one I get like Don't know not doubled
but like the last the first quarter this year
went insane. So they're there and they're kind
of on a hot streak with their stuff It's it's
it's nice that it seems like it might be sustainable
too because I know they were they were really
worried about like People just signing up for
like a weekend. Yeah and binge watching the shows
and then canceling so But So daredevil yeah,
give it a watch if you're a Marvel guy Or just
like good TV. So I even told my mom, I told my
mom to try it because I mean, she's not like
a superhero person, but she's she recently discovered
Netflix and she's always looking for like good
stuff to watch. And I was like, this is actually
a good show, you know, like just on its own.
Yeah, my wife, my wife actually liked it a great
deal. And I was actually in my hometown. I was
watching it at her home and her mother, my mother
-in -law, her mother, actually, they liked it,
too. She cares nothing about superheroes. So
I think it does have Crossover appeal for people
who are maybe just like crime shows or just you
know general good television like you mentioned
So Anything else you guys want to Dapple on before
no, I don't feel like bringing it down with the
with the other two topics Sounds good So I take
it neither one of you cut up on flash. Oh, I
have What was the last I think I just I'm trying
to think in the last episode I watched it. They
had the bee lady this week. Oh, yes. I just watched
that last night So and I'm not really gonna talk
to the plot of that per se I'm more so going
to jump into the whole Reverse flash aspect What
Do you guys think about how they revealed that
information and and how they're going towards
it again? What did they reveal I This episode
I can't think of I know what they did the trickster
episode. Was there something new? He Barry finally
told the rest of them that Wells is the reverse
flash Okay, I'm gonna miss the end of it might
have so Don't know I mean That's where I was
it was gonna happen. Anyways, I'm more I'm more
kind of bum that I had to they had to bring over
Felicity and Ray to do that, but Can I just say
I hate that suit like with a passion? Oh, yeah.
No what the atom? Yeah, like you're not alone.
Oh It's my wife was like why is why is there
a DC version of Iron Man? I just I don't I don't
it just seems it's My problem Sorry, go ahead
now. I just gonna say it seems to seem wrong
in every way It just looks ridiculous. My problem
isn't with with the suit. It's the well Yeah,
okay. The suit looks ridiculous, right? But my
problem really is it doesn't lie with the suit
My problem lies with the fact that it's a power
suit and not a suit that makes him tiny Yeah,
which I feel like with this episode. That's where
they were hinting at he might go with it But
who knows at this point Guess we'll find out
when they spin off all the side characters in
their own TV show. Yeah I know that the Adam
is supposed to get his own show. I thought that
that's what the spin -off was Yeah, that's that's
like at what point does CW just spin off into
a new network just called like DC TV I'm just
waiting for the spin -off where like DC and like
vampire Diaries combine universes I would watch
that cuz I like vampire Diaries Yeah, even though
the lead chicks lead in the show. Yeah, it's
OK. She was not. My favorite part of that show,
she wasn't important anymore. I mean, she is
not the entire thing kind of revolves around.
It was early on, but it's not so much anymore.
So and the kid that plays her brother supposed
to be leaving, I remember he was up for like
Nightwing. Those those rumors for Arrow have
like dropped off real fast. I know the Titan
show is supposed to start up and I didn't see
this week's arrow But I know what happened because
Blanchard. Yeah, I'm sorry about that I don't
know if you know what I'm referring to but I
I do but I all I'm gonna say about it because
I don't know I don't want to spoil anything for
Dan, but Is that someone's leaving? Yeah, but
it's really weird like I and all the TV I've
seen I've never seen anything like I've never
heard of anything like this like you hear you
hear about it like at the beginning of a season
or like the end of a season but not Like partway
through a season. It's it's it's interesting
to to read the the reason why it's just kind
of like I've never Seen that usually it's like
creative differences or something like that.
But what? It was interesting I read the one article
I read was that it was the I mean This is what
you feel like they say all the time that it was
the plan from the beginning that that that was
the Their design since the start that that was
always what they were gonna do I mean at least
the time period wise so I don't know maybe it's
just I'm trying to save face or something like
that Well, yeah, it sounds like it to me. It's
like we didn't renew his contract, but here's
how we spin it Yeah, I was like but no you do
that like it you don't do that in the middle
of a season you like Carry it out to like the
end and just say the guy's not coming back, you
know, like I don't know it was it's weird I was
never a big fan of that character. So i'm i'm
I don't mind it yeah, i'm not a big fan of them
either but But then there was the other element
that they they revealed the lazarus pit finally
Well, what the lazarus pit's been in this season.
I know but I mean Like they're actually going
to use it Okay, I guess I don't I mean I know
how I mean I know race has been in it But I mean
yeah, I was gonna say I know how they use it
and I mean we've seen race use it So I'm like,
well, what are they gonna? Can we also say I
don't understand this because I think she's never
mind This is just arrow doing this is what we've
talked about and Then we've kind of got the same
sentiment here arrows just doing cool shit to
be cool Instead of having anything make sense
anymore So I feel like this the end of the most
recent arrow episode is like the epitome of that
it's like But whatever it's arrow it's it's slowly
sliding back into that trainwreck state for me
and I'm Having a severe time watching a lot of
the comic based shows at this point in time I
mean, I still really like the flash. I mean,
I'm I Not maybe really like the strong word,
but I I guess I'm just curious where it's how
they're going to do the show after the whole
like Reverse flash angle is kind of addressed
like what is the next step in that because I
could see that running into an arrow problem
where you don't have that primary like thread
to kind of a lie on to You know garner interest
you have to come up with new stories has become
more like villain of the week type of stuff So
I mean, I don't know much about the flash lore
like his other potential villains, but I don't
know. Maybe they could just Just I don't know.
I just that's my my major question Yeah, tackling
one of the one of flash's best stories as the
basis for your first season does kind of make
you wonder Thanks. Thanks for that, Dan I mean
there's also ways of prolonging it like, you
know, there's it could just be like the one way
they you know, this is just a You know introduction
into the throw a larger story arc or something
like that. So so possibility That's my only question
is like after this, where does it go? So Arrow
has no idea where it's going. So it's driving
around in circles with the The wheels falling
off even my wife made a comment without me make
because like I said I watch all these shows before
I watch them with her and She we're just sitting
there watching arrow and something happened one
of the most recent episodes. She's like this
is crap And I had not said anything to her like
nothing. She's like this is really bad. I was
like I looked at I was like, yes So but we're
no we're still enjoying flash but I'm I'm wondering
how much that is like I feel like Barry is a
more likeable character than Oliver is He's and
it feels like he's Oliver has like one note in
a lot of ways where it's just getting overplayed
where i think there is a little bit more dimension
to him at least i find his his story is a little
bit more intriguing to me because it it you know
the the uh... there's his injustice that was
done to him seems less self self uh... induced
compared to like albert which seems like his
most of his problems are just because he was
a douchebag as a kid pretty much and it also
very is more having more he's having more fun
With the whole thing. Yes very much so but then
again how much that is because barry can have
more fun with it because he has superpowers versus
Versus batman light. Yeah, i just renamed the
show batarang and gave him a cape Oh, I said
it before I just want to say it one more time
since we're talking about all these shows I'm
really bummed that the teen titan show on was
a tnt. It was supposed to be isn't going to be
a 30 minute sitcom We already have Teen Titans
go. So okay, there's Teen Titans Because I'm
getting confused with all these shows that are
coming out. So you have Teen Titans. You have
Supergirl What's the Haw Girl series? It's that
also or that's gonna be on the atom. Yeah, she's
an atom. Oh, okay So she's not like her own series
and then she'll get her own show and I don't
know but that is Firestorm getting his own show
too. Is that like no he's gonna be crossing over
between the atom and more and more or less arrow
Okay And Supergirl supposedly tied into all this
stuff at some point somehow Yeah, possibly a
possibility of it there because it's the same
producers But Teen Titans is not as far as I
know It'd be interesting to see Roy show up over
there I Think that'd be a best place for him
and it already established somebody that people
know But that as far as I know there's no connection
that way like producer wise or anything like
that. So To be I'm just bummed that it's not
a 30 -minute sitcom because I think that would
be refreshing that and I know it's you know,
it's Show that Steve doesn't really care about
but I like the I like Teen Titans And not Teen
Titans Go, I haven't seen it. Do you like the
original Teen Titans? Yes, I like that. I just
thought it was fun and it had its moments. But
I had a friend that got me into it, like explained
not who the characters were because I already
knew this, but explaining to me the different
seasons. So that made it a little more enjoyable.
Plus, I think that type of dynamic works just
as a comedy. I'd also like to see you hear about
Fox wanting to make TV shows based off of the
X -Men properties, I would like to see them do
the X -Factor investigations because that's like
real world, like MTV's real world with mutants.
I don't know. Dan, have you ever read X -Factor
investigations? I haven't. I need to. It's spun
out of House of M and it deals with like multiple
man like decides to open up a detective agency.
To help out mutants in New York and so he you
know, there's like him and Four or five other
people like mutants that live with him and they're
like part of X Factor investigations but the
the way the dynamic between them all works out
it basically the comic was kind of like reading
a an MTV real -world comic but they all had like
Superpowers like one of the girls gets mad at
multiple man for sleeping with the other girl
in in the in their home and so she goes up to
multiple man and starts beating the crap out
of him because she wants to talk to the clone
that slept with the other one and he's like he's
like that's not how this works and she's just
sitting them punching him in the face and all
these multiples are pouring out of them and then
it gets kind of serious because I guess at some
point in in multiple man's life he decided to
send off clones in random directions and the
way his abilities work is when he absorbs them
he gets what that he gets their knowledge that
they had so he sent out like any number of clones
to just live a life and become people and eventually
the book devolves into him going around and reclaiming
these clones from Their lives so it gets kind
of it gets kind of depressing But the beginning
of the book is actually kind of funny and I would
like to see this is a different take on the whole
superhero thing It's not like super serious,
but it could be you know, some of these things
could be comedies Speaking of superheroes, you
see that Constantine didn't get cancelled Did
or didn't it did? Okay. I I saw that I saw the
headline that said it did get cancelled and then
I saw one that said that cancellation was premature
Oh, well, maybe I'm wrong Who knows with NBC?
Excuse me And speaking also have you watched
the powers TV the series on PlayStation Network
whatever it's on I have not watched that yet.
I've not heard good things I have not seen myself
but I mainly because I don't go on my PlayStation
watch TV like even Netflix I did that on other
things. I'm like I had to go out of my way to
find that Curiously here. I have not I mean,
I don't have PlayStation but I was I know the
first episode was online for free to watch but
