Altered Geek
TMNT Design Controversy, Girl Meets World Revival, and Social Media Arguments

About this Episode
Hey, this is Steve blue and you are listening
to the geek cast radio network Hello and welcome
to altered geek unlimited episode 25 I'm your
host Steve Megatron Phillips and joining me as
per usual Mike booth ninja powers welcome Hello,
yes, how have you been the last week? Not as
busy thankfully I got the guys website done.
It's actually live for the most part. There's
a couple minor tweaks I have to do, but it's
done. For that Indiebration magazine. That is
online, I got that done, so that's out of my
hair now. Got the GCRN awards kicked up and ready
to go. Yeah, I've been meaning to ask you, is
there a way that I can... That the people on
the website can actually look at the work that
you've done before it goes live or do we just
have to wait like everybody else? Unfortunately,
it's one of those wait and seize things. I'm
probably gonna publish it. I'm thinking I'll
probably have a teaser out shortly after this
episode You'll be able to see the categories
the voting will not show up until February 1st
Okay And then you will never see the answers
until I allow them to be seen. Some some GeekCast
Radio podcast in the future? Yes, it will be
covered. The goal is to run it for a month long.
However, if voting should taper off, we may do
it the GeekCast Radio episode early. OK, so.
Just kind of depends on how that goes, but it's
Everything's done all 26 categories That was
a complete mind rape on my side Because not only
did I have to build the images But I also had
to Set up the polls and then get the pages to
display the way I was hoping that they would
display Okay, so they're nice and separated I'm
interested to see how it turned out so yeah in
fact it might even be live soon yay voting but
yeah so that's that's been preoccupying my time
plus I redid the site header out of boredom I
saw that I went to the page earlier Earlier this
week and I noticed that the first thing that
showed up was just the the the GCR in five years
thing Yeah, and like that was all that loaded.
I was like today cool What happened and then
the rest of the page snapped in and then I realized
you'd only redone the top part and I was like,
oh, okay Yeah, I stretched the awards image out
a little bit so that it would kind of touch on
the five years my original goal so the vote would
be directly in the center below the five years,
but The rest of the image would have had to be
pushed and I didn't like how it looked so mmm,
and I was trying to make gcrn extra large Because
it was itty -bitty Before so right Looks like
an ass car logo. Yeah, I know it almost looks
that way doesn't it we need to be on the side
of a car I wish That would be awesome like that
the whole thing like the first annual GCRN Awards
like you know five years like I feel like the
number five should be the number five on the
car And then like all the rest that header should
just be like wrapped around one side or something
That would be awesome So oh Only in our wildest
dreams Yep Then again that makes that sounds
like I think NASCAR is a thing and I don't so
sorry if I offended anybody Yeah, I I'm not commenting.
I don't want it. I don't want to upset anybody
So Um, I'm not sure how how long I'm going to
be on the episode this week Because I have to
get up extremely earlier early earlier early
tomorrow for work I'm not sure if I'll end up
closing up the episode with you tonight or not,
or if I'll end up leaving you at one of the breaks
and for you to talk to yourself in a mirror or
something. Either way. I'm not sure how many
people actually listen to Off the Cuff, but listen
to Altered Geek. But I don't know if you know
the wife and I purchased a Xbox one over the
weekend I Wasn't sure I thought I read that but
I wasn't sure if I was reading it from you. Yeah,
we we went out Well, it's actually kind of funny
because I woke up on Sunday morning and You know,
I'm scrolling through my Twitter feed while I'm
sitting in bed and I noticed that Best Buy has
$20 off subscription for xbox live for one year
so it's like 40 dollars and i was like well that
would be really nice if i had an xbox you know
or if i used xbox live and uh as some people
may or may not know tomb raider the definitive
edition which is on the xbox one on the playstation
4 um released early like game stop decided to
break street date and just sell it um So when
my wife and I got up on Sunday, I was like, Hey,
I want to go out and get myself a copy of, you
know, Tomb Raider, even though I had a copy of
it coming from Amazon already. Um, but it wasn't
going to arrive till Tuesday, but I really wanted
to play it. So my wife and I went out, um, to
try and find it and she had just gotten her bonus,
um, from work and stuff. And so we were kind
of out and out and about and we found a copy
and then she went. over and was looking at the
xbox one and she has a thing for zoo tycoon okay
um which for people that don't know is basically
like a sim city but you're just building a zoo
um and they have they have a zoo tycoon for xbox
one um which i told her about as soon as the
xbox one came out in an effort to try and get
her to go have these with me on an xbox one um
but she wasn't buying it at the time but for
whatever reason we were out on Sunday maybe I
think it was just because she had gotten her
bonus and um she was like man I'd really like
to play zoo tycoon I said well why don't we go
why don't we get an xbox one you know and I said
I'd I'd pay half for it so we ended up picking
up one um brought it home hooked it up that thing
is huge it is unbelievably huge really yes um
It's as big if not bigger than the original Xbox.
It is pretty big. I mean, it looks nice. I mean,
I have some problems like the fit and finish
of the whole thing. The user interface for it
is very Windows 8, and I'm not really a fan of
it. I will say that Kinect 2 .0 actually works...
Lot better than the first version of connect
which is not unsurprising It actually listens
to you when you talk Anyways So we picked it
up and it's it's a lot of fun. She had a lot
of fun playing zoo tycoon Me personally I want
it for a tiny little game coming out in March
called Titanfall So yes, you know I drop Basically
five hundred dollars on a console that I'm not
gonna play a game on for another two months,
but It's there in my house I Think my only real
gripe with the system is that it does that I
don't I don't know If you've read anything about
the Xbox one Steve, but it has this The idea
behind it is that Microsoft wanted to dominate
the input one on your TV Okay, so it has an HDMI
pass through it built into it and The idea is
that you're supposed to hook your cable box up
to you you run your cable box into your Xbox
one and then your Xbox one out to your TV or
your stereo and So when you turn on your cable
box, you can actually navigate your TV using
your Xbox And that's a really cool idea for people
have cable Myself, I was thinking that I would
try and conserve HDMI inputs, which, you know,
anyone that has a lot of electronics knows that
HDMI inputs are like, you know, a cherished commodity
in an entertainment setup. Well, I was thinking
I could piggyback, as blasphemous as this is,
I could piggyback my PlayStation 4 through my
Xbox One out to my TV. Lo and behold, the passthrough
does not work unless the Xbox One is turned on.
Which just kind of irritated me, because I was
kind of thinking, you know, why, if it has this
low power standby state, why does the passthrough
not just work? Like, I understand that it needs
to be on, but I just don't understand why it's
not part of the low power standby state, because
I don't want to have to run two consoles, my
stereo and my TV just to play a game. I know,
first world problems. So I I just unhooked it
and put everything back the way that it was I
actually had to unhook my standalone blu -ray
player just hook up my Xbox but No, it's it's
interesting. I'm interested to see what games
come for it My primary platform is still gonna
be the PlayStation 4 but at least now I'll get
to play the exclusives and be able to talk about
You know the games more in depth instead of just
being like yeah, I heard it was okay It's all
right And then No, I also I sold I Sold my old
my old my two -year -old iPad to my my dad well
to my mom to give to my dad for Father's Day
Mm -hmm, and I ended up purchasing one of the
new iPad heirs How is that it is a thing of beauty?
Actually, it's it's the story is a little more
involved in that I When I sold it to my mom I
actually ended up buying an iPad mini with the
retina display in it. That was that was gorgeous
and it was perfect for reading, you know, digital
comics or web pages or anything like that. But
I had decided that I wanted to get back into
drawing and I was going to just jump into drawing
on, you know, my on my tablet. So I bought I
bought this really nice stylus for the iPad.
It's actually called a pencil by a company called
53. And it's really nice because it's Bluetooth
enabled and there's a little gyroscope inside
of it so you can draw with it like you would
a normal pencil and when you flip it over it
automatically knows that you're trying to erase.
So you can use it just like it's a pencil. So
I bought that. And I was playing around with
it, and I drew a couple pictures. I posted some
stuff on Facebook. I don't know if anyone saw
any of it, but I realized that drawing on an
iPad Mini was a lot like drawing on, like, a
napkin square at a restaurant. Like, because
the real estate to draw on was very tiny. So
I ended up I was within my 15 day return policy
so I took it back down to the Apple Store and
I exchanged it for a full -size iPad Air and
Just like the last two iterations of the iPad
I mean from the iPad 2 to You know, it wasn't
called an iPad 3 they just call it an iPad, but
it was the third iPad It was probably the iPad
I think was like actually the fourth iPad So,
from the iPad 2 to the fourth iPad, they didn't
really change the look of it at all. It was basically
the same thing with just upgraded internals.
The iPad Air is the first major redesign since
the iPad 2, and it's a big difference. One, it's
a lot lighter, and there's some optical illusion
stuff that's going on, like the screen looks
bigger, but it's the same size screen as the
original iPad, but it just looks bigger because
they slim down the sides. And so I'm used to
seeing this this thick black border all the way
around the picture Which makes your which makes
the tablet look square, but now the tablet tablet
is now more rectangular It just you have to you
kind of have to hold one and then the other to
actually see what I'm talking about But it feels
like a brand new device yet It's it's just as
easy to use and I'm really I'm really enjoying
it So plus it matches the color of my iPhone
now, which I also appreciate So but that's I
realized that I had kept some of that stuff a
secret from a lot of people From from the listener,
so I just kind of thought I would share that
that I'm actually able to talk about that kind
of stuff now, too like I said, I mentioned like
the Xbox stuff on an off -the -cuff and we'll
see if we get any responses about that, but Other
than that I Have talked the wife into Letting
me I'm either gonna do going back to like the
TV talk I've she sold on either the 60 inch P
series or She may let me get the 65 inch reference
series which is Vizio's top the line TV this
year I Set the weight and see what the pricing
is of that so we had a we had a nice conversation
about that over dinner last night, so So I'm
kind of I'm looking forward to that. So I'm really
hoping Vizio starts announcing prices and release
dates because man if that's within That's within
my price range that I'm definitely going after
that reference series because Anyone that was
paying attention last week through that TV conversation.
I'm First of all, I applaud you for making it
through the episode But you go from you know
64 local dimming zones in the p -series to 384
in the reference series So the the picture quality
there's there's a definite definite step up in
the picture quality going from the p -series
to the reference series for Vizio TVs, so Well,
that's about all I got I figure maybe we can
move on to talking about Some media and then
I might skip out Okay, unless you unless you
want to share what you've been doing the last
I know you said you were doing a lot of work
I just I didn't know if there was anything else
you wanted to share. I don't care to elaborate
It was it was more than I I'd ever care to take
out most part just want to forget about it Yeah,
I want to bury it in the past All right So have
I know that this is the new hot button on the
internet right now. The Ninja Turtles stuff that's
been popping up, whether it be the poster or
the picture of the shredder or the toys. Okay,
I know we talked for a second off air about this
stuff. And I spilled my opinion. I want to know
what you think, Steve. Okay. I'm torn, actually.
Was expecting to full -on nerd rage on this thing
and then the more I realized What you know because
let's face it people that have nostalgia get
really get like a hard -on for attacking things
that Ultimately don't matter whoa whoa Steve
come on now That doesn't happen. I'm I'm re -evaluating
myself lately, and I'm fighting. I'm doing the
nerd ragey thing a lot There's certain yes, there
are certain things at least continuity or not
continuity But like story origin wise of certain
things that that irks me when they don't do it
or certain Styles that they don't keep with I
didn't expect them to keep the old 90s hokey
look That was kind of that timeline I think that
the was at the 89 turtles Was it 90 or 89 or
90? It was 89 in 90, 91. It was 90 and 91 for
Turtles and Turtles 2. I like the design of the
Turtles in the 90s series in the 90s movie. It's
the designs after that in Turtles 2, Turtles
3 that just... I hate it. They looked really
bad. Here, I have some issues. with the um the
ninja turtles and it's it's more so i don't i
don't care that they've got you know the different
turtley textures and all that stuff because honestly
they kind of should my my problem is he michael
bay michael bay uh instead of bay formers he
did turtle like bay turtles um he added lips
to him which i find kind of Irritatingly creepy
like I don't like the Donatello one looks fine,
but I find it annoying that he has to wear nerdy
glasses or Yeah, I don't I don't know something
about that bothers me and then the fact that
Mikey and Raphael have noses Wait a second. I
need to go look at this because I don't it's
in the the dropbox folder I'll put it in is it
that poster that you put up? Yeah Don't know
I I'll post it in the episode. I'm looking at
it right now. Hey First of all, I don't think
that that that doesn't look like an official
movie poster to me. It doesn't but it's I've
heard that that's one of the teasing posters
out. I Mean I don't know I really have a problem
with them and it goes back to Thank you Hey my
wife brought my food in It goes back to the whole
issue that we kind of talked about with Oh, what
was it Green Lantern? You know a lot of people
had problems with the suit when they first saw
it and you know the two issues I had with the
movie beyond the script were you know the mask
and Blake Lively It had nothing to do with the
CGI suit and the guys that are handling this
this stuff It's the same crew that worked on
Planet of the Apes the remake Like the one not
not or I'm sorry rise of the Planet of the Apes.
It just came out like two years ago Yeah, it's
the same. It's the same team that's working on
these the motion capture for these guys So it's
one of these things where it's like one thing
to look at them in a picture But I have I have
to see them in motion Yes, I have to see this
stuff in motion. I don't even know if a trailer
is going to do it justice. I don't think so.
Honestly, I think this I think this is like the
equivalent of this is going to be the new hot
button between fans, I think. And I agree, I'm
jumping on that ship to some degree in this category,
but. I I find myself liking them but not liking
them and it's it's only because of those key
features like if they if if they Got rid of the
nerd glasses off Donnie because it's basing it
off a stereotype and let's face it Michael Bay
loves his stereotypes Yeah, but if you think
about though they've all been Stereotypes the
turtles have been you don't need to like shove
it my face essentially with the With the glasses
thing Like I get he's high -tech. He's he's nerdy.
He doesn't mean Again, we have to see how I still
I want to see how it plays out. I don't know
Like I'm more interested in the movie now than
I was maybe like a week ago I mean I was I'm
I like Ninja Turtles. I really do And I'm happy
anytime they get more screen time. I'm really
enjoying the Nickelodeon series and whatnot I
You know, I'm I'm actually more amazed that it
took this long for this stuff to come out No
for this stuff to come out like the artwork for
this movie to come out. They've kept it really
well hidden honestly. Yeah So I'm I'm excited
to see how it looks. I'm kind of bummed that
it got moved back to the end of summer. But that's
fine, because that just gives it more time to
finish up the effects. Now it is coming out this
year, right? Yes, it's this fall. I think it's
like a September, August or September. It's an
end of summer movie. I think originally it was
supposed to come out in March. I'm fine with
it as long as they can manage to do it right,
I guess. In the same vein... What do you think
of Shredder? I honestly love that. Because I
wasn't thrilled with the original Shredder from
the first set of films. So I'm fine with it.
Although there stands to reason that I'm wondering
if the Udram Krang are going to be in it. I'm
ready for the fact that they've said that the
ooze comes from another planet and from the looks
of it shredders stomach has the casing Well,
I mean I I've heard I remember when the whole
hype about Teenage Mutant when they were remaking
it and everyone was like, oh, it's Michael Bay
and there's a leaked script and it was this that
and the other thing I there was a really interesting
video and Maybe I will try and track it down
while we're talking here. We can put it in the
show notes done by a guy over on escapist magazine.
He's one of TFG one Mike's favorites the movie
Bob He actually has some really compelling videos,
but he did a take a look at the actual history
for Stop stop, okay He did a look at the actual
history of Ninja Turtles like where they came
from and what their comic origins actually are
And supposedly the ooze is actually at least
the oozes from another dimension. That is one
thing. That's for certain like space another
dimension I Think it was like that's like six
of one half a dozen of the other right? Yeah
So I mean and he was he was specifically attacking
the people that were just like freaking out over
the fact that he's making the TV to turn he's
making the turtles aliens Now I can see people
being pissed about the aliens thing but the I
mean realistically I wouldn't expect humans to
be able to come up with something like that Well,
I'm just I'm just saying I'm thinking but that
that's what it always was though It was the ooze
is from another dimension or planet and people
were just rolling that into he's making them
aliens, but that's But that's what they've like
if you're looking at it that way technically
that's what they've you know always been I think
I think I have it right off the watch it before
I actually send it to you some later, but I Will
let you know if I found the right one But yeah,
it's just a really interesting look at people
getting mad about the rumors and the implications
behind it and Like super like and one of the
funny things he says in the actual video is says
that if people cared about the turtles as much
as the Act is as many people cared about the
turtles as the internet is raging right now Kevin
Eastman and Peter layer would be rich mother
efforts Was basically his joke which I thought
was really funny But I'm I'm interested to see
I'm just I'm glad it's coming back to the to
the to the screen the question is Can I get my
wife to watch it? My wife won't watch the original
set see that's I would never try and show my
wife two and three because I refuse to watch
those ones myself I love to because I grew up
with that one, but three is atrocious. I would
I would try and get her to watch like TMNT and
The 90s one because the 90s like I said, I like
the 90s one I like TMNT just from the visual
style that they they chose in the in these subtle
connections It has to the live -action series
the live -action films but I'm I'm interested
to see if If if I can get her to watch this,
I mean if not I'm sure I can get you know You
or some of my other friends to go with me. I
don't think so. I'm definitely planning on going
so Well, then we should probably make plans to
go together Yay! AGU on location, though. Yeah,
we can record while we watch the movie and ruin
it for everybody. Yeah, Mystery Science Theater
it up. That'd be hilarious. They'd be like, you
have to leave, I'm sorry. Alright, what else
we got? Oh... We have... Girl Meets World, which...
I don't know how excited you are for that show,
but it's a quasi continuation of Boy Meets World
from the 90s. I'm indifferent towards it right
now. I have no problem with Boy Meets World.
I actually remember liking Boy Meets World. I
actually own all of Boy Meets World on DVD. As
do I. I'm kind of mad. I ordered my wife one
of them. I think I got them for her birthday
last year. Ordered them off of Amazon and they
didn't have a box set yet. All they had was like
the individual seasons But some guy had bought
had put all the seasons together and he was selling
them that way So I bought that and I guess sometime
in the last year they decided to actually release
a box set of boy meets world So kind of irritated
I bought them years ago online They were all
bootleg and I didn't realize that when I bought
them Which is why I don't really buy stuff online
anymore when it's digital media So I have them
all they're all like stuff that people recorded
off ABC Family Like it's presented nicely and
they're they're nice for the most part. I have
three bad episodes out of the whole Batch of
the eight seasons or whatever There was like
a there's a thing with them Ellie McBeal It took
a long time for Ally McBeal to come to DVD like
that. There was a black market for Ally McBeal
on DVD Which was basically the you know, the
bootleg copies put into nice packaging And I
remember that was a thing because You know when
when those I don't think this is like the case
with like Boy Meets World But I know it was with
Ally McBeal when they used licensed music when
they produced the show, there was no DVD releases
of TV shows. So the music licenses were all just
for the broadcast of the show, and to release
them on DVD would require new licensing. And
so now, but now Ally McBeal is actually on DVD
and it's on Netflix and stuff. The question is,
and I don't know because I never really watched
the show, but I'm wondering if they went ahead
and got the licenses for those kinds of distributions
or if the TV shows have been altered and different
music was added in. If anyone knows, if there's
any Ally McBeal fans that know the difference
between when it aired on TV and if there are
any differences to like the DVD release or the...
The the streaming alia McBeals let us know because
I do know that that was like a thing Because
like one of my favorite TV shows two guys a girl
on the pizza place Is another one of those shows
that you can only get the high -quality bootleg
copies of they don't have a an actual DVD release
for it, which is weird considering that Ryan
Reynolds is like a thing right now So we have
so boys world never really I mean, I never disliked
it. I remember watching it on TGIF As to die,
I'm I'm interested to see what they do I'm more
interested in the fact that ABC has enough faith
in it in it to go to 21 episodes It's actually
Disney that has a surprise but it's ABC that's
the same thing, right? Essentially, I mean is
it airing on the Disney Channel or is it airing?
Yeah, it's airing on Disney Channel. Oh, ABC's
not even playing it. Nope. It's strictly Disney
Channel they They well they have a couple shows
ending currently so it's gonna be filling that
gap and I guess ABC thing nope They it's the
same producers and everything. It's it used to
be on ABC and ABC family so I mean it's still
a Disney subsidiary I mean they owned it overall
but yeah yeah yeah I'm just I'm just right here
on Disney Channel yeah I'm just I guess I'm more
I guess that's the big news to me really is that
it's not on ABC it's on Disney I think the reasoning
for that is is it's about a girl oh yeah Because
girly shows no offense. I'm not trying to be
sexist or anything But I'm just saying like shows
that have a main character of a younger girl
or whatever Generally always go on Disney whereas
if it's like a boy. They don't really have that
okay, so really this whole thing you just this
so I'm imagining what a girl meets world is like
Disney's version of iCarly which makes me sad
It could be I don't know but It's still gonna
feature prominently the guy that played Corey
Feeney is gonna be in the first episode. They've
already kind of confirmed that the older brother
and Eric and Sean the best friend will return
at some point Well, you know cuz I'm not doing
anything. I mean Kevin is only gonna get you
so far well The guy that plays Eric he does voiceover.
Oh, I know that I'm just pretty much just yeah
Sean he doesn't do anything Sean did cabin fever
and fell off the face of the planet so yeah he
does like independent like shows kind of thing
now i mean um but the chick that played tapanga
she's gonna basically own the juice bar from
uh either power rangers or saved by the bell
okay well i mean the kids hang out so man i'll
probably watch like i'll be amazed if this gets
past my two episode shake because i the fact
that it's getting pigeonholed into like the typical
Disney Disney channel stuff rather than you know
an ABC comedy is I don't know that's that breaks
my heart just a little bit I have this odd feeling
that it's gonna end up being a uh um one of those
almost throwaway -ish type shows I mean why couldn't
have had the same gravitas or gravity is like
last man standing because it's on disney right
but i'm saying like why wasn't it why did i mean
that's what i'm just saying like why could why
could it not have been on abc but done more of
like you know i just i feel like it's gonna be
worse than last man standing and i but i don't
think i like the i like the the the stories in
last man standing i like the message in last
in last man standing i just Was kind of hoping
that girl meets world would be that same thing
But and maybe it is like I could be wrong but
Like I said, I haven't seen one one thing from
this outside of like a screenshot so Who knows?
Yeah I Hope that they do it justice. I hope they
don't botch it, right? I'd really be sad Because
I I did love boy meets world like it was one
of the shows. I watched every week as a kid so
mm -hmm But all right, it's about as far as I'm
gonna take that one We're gonna just the last
bit of media, which is just fun stuff. Yeah Legos
I lost my mind when I saw this today at work
I Wow i like i love ghostbusters um i find the
first movie to be endlessly quotable sadly i
don't own either the first or the second one
on on dvd or blu -ray i really feel like i should
rectify that soon um but i've seen them dozens
of times and you know it's it's one of those
obviously those series are those two movies are
one of the movies that you get your catchphrases
from right like you use phrases from those shows
and like your regular life um or from those movies
in your regular life. My favorite one is, yes,
have some. Very few people understand that's
a Ghostbusters reference, but I love that. And
I also, as Steve said, we're gonna talk about
Legos, and I love Legos. I love them. Now, so
much that I'm older, I just kind of buy them.
I buy the really nice ones, and I put them on
my bookshelf to display. Well, why shouldn't
you? Right, exactly. You're not going to beat
them all to hell anymore. I mean, you're just
going to have them as nice display pieces. Exactly,
because some of these new ones look, you know,
they're definitely displayable. And, lo and behold,
I caught the news from SlashFilm that the Kuoso,
I don't know if it's Kuoso or Kuso, is a Lego
thing where you can submit your designs and your
designs can be voted on. And if it reaches, I
think, 10 ,000 votes, LEGO will seriously chase
down the rights to produce the set that was voted
on. Nice. They've done like Back to the Future,
like they've had the DeLorean. Which it wasn't
just a DeLorean from one of the three movies,
it was a DeLorean that you could build to look
like whichever DeLorean you wanted. Which is
infinitely awesome. Yes. However, in defense
of the DeLorean, the set that LEGO released is
not as cool as the set that the guy built for
submission. That's sad. That is kind of sad.
But then again, you realize it's LEGO and they
have to be able to, you know, earn somewhat of
a profit or, you know. However, going back on
topic, the lead up here is they are going to
release the Ecto -1. With the four minifigures
of the Ghostbusters Nice and I am So excited
for this They don't have a release date yet.
They said that it was coming later this year
And again, they also said the design has not
been finalized So as cool as it looks in the
pictures and the links that we're sending you
it may not look that way because One of them
I believe one of the pictures actually has the
damn thing lighting up And I don't know if that's
gonna carry over to the final build, but man,
I hope it does. That would look, that'd make
an awesome nightlight. Just leaving that on out
in my family room. But yeah, so I'm definitely
looking forward to that. And Steve, you found
one. Yeah, the... Lego Batmobile. Which, of course,
there's no reason not to get excited about that
either. Oh, no. And the funny thing is, when
I Googled it, there are tons of different ones
that people have made. I didn't know that they
actually had released certain ones. I think they've
done the Tumblr. They did the Tumblr. They also
did one that's got that bat symbol head thing
on the front. The front hood scoop thing. And
it's got the two fins in the back. That's an
official Batman set But I've also seen on the
internet People have made the Batman Returns
Batmobile The animated series Batmobile and the
Arkham Batmobile, okay Which for me those three
I I'd have to own Was I you know, I'm gonna see
if I can track down a tumblr set because that's
my favorite batmobile. I Mean, I I do like I
don't get around I like the animated series.
Well, I like all the incarnation of the animated
series batmobile But I there's just something
about the tumblr that I really really like I
think it was because it was practical like it
wasn't a sports car. It was actually usable But
side note talking about the Batmobile And I can
send you the picture if you want to put it in
the notes Steve Okay, you know I took that picture
of the Cadillac at the Auto Show I think that
is that may be the car that they're going to
turn into the Batmobile Okay I don't I'm not
100 % sure but I know that just looking at it.
It looks like the Batmobile. For anyone that
wants to know, it's the Cadillac El Mirage. It's
just a concept, but we all know that concept
cars can become film cars, case in point, the
Camaro. But anyways, you're excited for those
sets, Steve? Yes, definitely. I need you to carry
the show because I'm trying to email this picture
to you. Not a problem. I will throw that in the
show notes. So I think we'll take a quick break
and come back with the Blitz, and then if we
see you or not after that, it remains to be seen.
Sounds good to me. All right, we're back we're
going to do the blitz looks like this time we've
got three topics lined up so it'll be about six
minutes give or take a few to reset the the old
timer here and after that I'm going to We'll
take another smaller break. So I'm gonna jet
after that So, let me get out my stopwatch here
and I think you know what I'm gonna do it this
week I'm actually going to find a nicer ring
for the show for the buzzer anyways than what
I've been using so all right the first thing
we've got we found a story about a man builds
a shrine to a retro video game collection this
little little setup here are there any numbers
in this article Nope, that's just a really nice
looking shelf. Okay. Looks like Joe's basement.
All right, anyways Yeah, we'll go ahead and start
the timer here I'll go I'm gonna count down from
three and then I'm gonna let Steve take it away.
So three two one So yeah the Images that it shows
on this link of this guy's retro video game shrine
he has a ton of classic games controllers all
the different versions of the game boy in multitudes
of colors and variations all the way through
a lot of modern stuff and then he's got stacks
and stacks of like Nintendo Super Nintendo Sega
like every game console nicely organized it's
insane yeah it looks nice I'm just wondering
like is this See I'm wondering if it doesn't
if he's got more games somewhere else in the
house because this does seem very Limited like
the shots are all like the same wall And that
is really cool that he found a way to display
maybe I'm guessing what are probably his favorite
games for those systems I wish I had all my I
mean I've had most of these I've had the you
know the Super Nintendo the 64 the PlayStation
the GameCube the NES Looks like he's got something
down there on top of the NES. Can't really tell
what it is I know if Joe was here he'd be able
to tell us what this is For those that are interested.
This is what Joe reads Joe read from off the
cuff Most of the stuff is in his basement, except
it's not this well organized The most important
part about all this I think is that he has it
hooked up to a standard definition television
Which in my opinion is the best and only way
to play those systems. So More power to you sir
for keeping that around Yes, it definitely makes
sense and it from the appearance it actually
looks like he might actually have them hooked
up to a switch box on the side That's that's
what I noticed too because he's got one set of
cables running into the front of that TV Which
why you'd run them into the front. I have no
idea why But either way easier. No, it's it's
it's cool Yeah, I mean, I wish I had a way to
display this other than you know, just the spines
of my game cases All right, let's see here Let's
see Next up this will probably be more just possibly
us ranting a little bit Last week we put out
a feelers to see if anyone had heard Any information
regarding like the multi -picture deals that
like Samuel Jackson and Chris Evans had signed
to play, you know Nick Fury and Captain America
in in either like if their cameos count as like
towards their picture deal. And Dragono responded
with, I heard when it comes to the picture deals,
it counts for an appearance they make with the
character. So again, we're going to start, I'm
going to count down from three and then I'm going
to let Steve take it away. So three, two, one.
I honestly think that. Anytime they show up in
a motion picture of any kind such as like when
Robert Downey jr. Showed up in Hulk or in other
Little little minor scenes kind of thing. I think
that that kind of applies You know same thing
with like Nick Fury or Captain America and anytime
any of them cross over between films I think
that it's a part of their motion picture deal
I'm not sure how the TV thing works. I kind of
think that that's a separate entity on itself
Because they made that it's up to the actor whether
they want to go down to TV level Right. I don't
know. I just think I think it's weird I mean
obviously they're paid a lump sum of money to
do the role nine times. I guess it doesn't matter
how how big or small that appearance is. I guess
I didn't really think about that last week when
we kind of posed that question, you know, it's
like you're contractually obligated, we're going
to give you this much money and we're just going
to use you nine times, whether it's like for
an entire movie or, you know, it's like 30 seconds
as a cameo. I guess I don't know. It just seems
weird because for some reason I feel like, yeah,
they're contractually obligated, but I feel like
it's they... for some reason in my head at the
time i was thinking that they receive like a
million dollars for like you know 30 seconds
worth of a cameo it's like are you kidding me
i mean yeah that happens like sometimes but um
i just i totally forgot that it was probably
like a whole package deal where they've already
received the money that they're gonna receive
outside of any like box office residuals which
is what robert downey jr gets um But, yeah, I
don't know. I guess we just had our heads stuck
up our asses last week. Or I did, at least, because
that really shouldn't even have been a question.
I just wasn't thinking about it in the right
context, so... Yeah, that'll about do it for
that one. Yep. Oh, time. And then the last one
we've got... apps for podcasting or apps for
listening to podcasts on smartphones mostly Android
If you'd like us to we're gonna do this in the
in the blitz But if you'd like us to expand on
this we can do that at the top of the next episode
Or maybe like the night maybe the episode after
that because I think we've got a plan for next
week's episode, but We can expand on it in a
later episode. Yes, so Countdown from three and
Steve take it away. So three two one Well, if
you're looking for the streaming route, I would
say stitcher depending on if the website actually
Has the show submitted there kind of like we
do but if you're not looking into streaming options
There are varying podcast players some free some
pay just kind of depends on how you like the
interface of the apps I in the show notes because
I don't want to go in and list every single one
of them. I have multiple links with varying Android
apps, and I've heard of some of them, so it should
be cool. Yeah, I was gonna, at first I was gonna
suggest Downcast, but he said he wasn't a fan
of that. I know that it works fairly well on
iOS. It's actually rivaled Against Apple's own
podcast apps which up until Maybe six months
ago was a piece of garbage But they've since
fixed the app by itself But downcast was like
the alternative to the their put the true Apple's
own podcast app. Well, it was broken Another
thing and again, that's iOS. So that's not your
thing, but I swear by Apple's podcast app that's
what I use right now because it just makes it
so easy to subscribe to podcasts and whatnot.
I always suggest giving downcast another try
if it's been a while since you've used it. The
other option that I will put in the show notes
is an app called Double Twist. I think what part
of the problem might be is that you might need
just a way to get them on your Android that's
easy and from what I've used of Double Twist
it It runs in parity with iTunes, and I know
a lot of people don't like iTunes, but they have
a really large podcast directory. But if I remember
correctly, it runs side by side with iTunes,
only it will interface with your Android device
and allow you to sync your podcasts and music
that you have in iTunes to your Android device.
Shoot. So if you would like us to elaborate on
that any more in the future. Just ask us, you
know, remind us and we'll come back to it. But
yeah, definitely try out Double Twist. And there's
a link in the show notes. There was one other
thing that Tim Silver's brought up just to save
time on you. I think we'll come back and cover
that next week as far as catching up on shows.
That's what I was going to say. Yeah, I wanted
to talk about I was going to bring that up. as
if we could come back to the catcher thing because
I did I you know we had that late submission
from Tim and I did want to talk about that just
not this week so yeah obviously because that
would go too far in depth and right you're you
have to work I do I do I do I do and I have Taco
Bell sitting here to eat yay Taco Bell so yeah
we'll cover that probably in the beginning of
the show I think next week will be more so a
topic show yeah I think we're going to We're
going to do the Super Bowl commercials, right?
Yes. We're going to cover those and kind of go
across them and give our thoughts about them.
And I think we should do what we should do, Steve,
is we should find a way to compile a list of
the commercials that were shown and do a poll.
I'll see. I'll see what I can because I know
Hulu does a like a Super Bowl commercial section
where you can watch all the commercials. Now
do we want to have the poll up for this episode
or do we want to have it up for next episode?
Well, I'm thinking that if we can get it up like
Monday and Then we could you know just pull it
for we can do it from Monday to Thursday Okay
Again because I will have to pull the list of
ads that we can find You know that actually aired
on like Sunday kind of kind of on Monday and
maybe posted on Monday Just just run it until
Thursday People can vote on what their favorite
one was And we can kind of just you know kind
of go off of that Or something. I don't know
just throwing it out there You can find myself
on Twitter at booth ninja 81 so if you want to
shout at me there So yeah, I will be back next
week guys don't have too much fun with Steve
Alrighty, so we'll catch you after the break
Bye! Welcome back to altered geek unlimited it
is the headshot segment of the show This segment
will actually be rotated in and out Off and on
in the future between the blitz and There's a
couple other segments that will be rotated in
and out as well it just kind of depends but This
time on this edition of headshot Which in case
you guys didn't get it the concept yet. It's
kind of like the family guy thing of You know
it grinds my gears So yeah, that's basically
what it is This time I'm going to complain because
Social media seems to and I mentioned this earlier
in the show It runs rampant, not only with fan
raging, but it also traverses across with social
media, only for the fact that people tend to
get bent out of shape over things people post.
And it doesn't really matter what it is. And
you have various personality types. You have
the people that go overlay board with the comedy
of it, making fun of something, whether it's
hilarious or not. Some of them go overboard with
it. For instance, well, I'll get into the other
typical types. Then you have the one that's posting
it. really to be mean or anything but just because
it's something that it's something that they
believe or something that they like but don't
necessarily want comments on it and then you
have the ones that are in full support of whatever
it is or you have the ones that are on the polar
opposite that are like you're evil for posting
this blah blah blah I I kinda have a hard time
with posting on Facebook anymore. And I think
the big dilemma is when I'm posting something,
I rarely post on Facebook on my account there.
I really don't use it all that much. But for
example, I posted earlier today a image and it
was between It was between the snowfall thing
and it had to do with The the extreme snow that
that fell here in the northern states like Michigan
and It was poking fun at the fact that you know
in Atlanta. They had no snow, but it was all
ice I found it humorous because Again, I can
relate to it because of the fact that It shows
like the the Atlanta snowpocalypse in the northern
snowpocalypse and the snow in Michigan I can
relate to only for the fact that I live here
and I have to drive through the crap and I have
to work in the crap so It showed a side -by -side
in the Atlanta when it has bumper -to -bumper
traffic and everybody you know on ice and the
cars are kind of staggering and it says atlanta
snowpocalypse motorists stay overnight in cars
or take 16 hours to drive home and then it says
northern snowpocalypse motorists grow impatient
walk home even miles abandon their cars now granted
i know that people in atlanta did the same thing
that's irrelevant it's it's one of those stupid
internet memes floating around just kind of poking
fun at the difference between atlanta snowpocalypse
and northern state snowpocalypse Okay. They're
equally bad, they're equally terrible, they suck
either way, nobody likes them. It's just, it
was making fun of the fact that one has ice and
bumper -to -bumper traffic, and the other one's
bumper -to -bumper traffic with a foot of snow,
or two feet of snow. So... It was in no way meant
to be derogatory towards anybody, I just thought
it was a little funny. Well... I'm in class,
and it's... this particular class was boring
the crap out of me. So I was checking my Facebook
and lo and behold somebody says a lot of Atlanteans
did abandon their cars and walk home also friendly
reminder that southern states infrastructure
is not set up to handle ice and snow conditions
okay so it's not but you know it's it's funny
to me because I'm from the north and I can drive
in the snow and I can drive on ice for the most
part I'm not saying you know trying to discount
it or anything and this person is making me out
to be the bad guy for posting it when I didn't
make it I just reposted it because I thought
it was funny and so I tried I said you know wasn't
trying to stir the pot just found it funny both
are equally suckage and then this particular
person said lots of folks find it funny I doubt
the nearly 200 families who lost loved ones the
past two days think it's all that laughable And
then I had to, you know, reply, I'm like, again,
was laughable at the image, not the predicament.
I live in Michigan, so the one with snow is relatable,
so please don't twist it around like I'm laughing
at the dead. That's the example of one person
going the polar opposite and making it out to
be something that it's not. It's a joke. Get
over it. But again, it's one of those people
that like to argue about stupid shit. So... Another
person on my Facebook proceeds to because that
person's done talking at this point. And so this
other person says, well, I'm laughing at the
dead, so bite me. And then the person immediately
after says, not everything has to be twisted
in a gloom and despair. And then it was kind
of back and forth between that person and another
person. And mind you, I'm not mentioning names
because I don't want to call anybody out. So
it was just a back and forth kind of making fun
of you know life and stupid stresses that people
put on themselves and It just kind of went back
and forth between there and then they proceeded
to post winter car crash fail compilations of
2013 and they have like the snowpocalypse in
the north and the south and It was just humorous
and then they said that they should be set to
the theme of Benny Hill, which I, again, had
to laugh. Now mind you, these people are just
poking fun at it. It's not a big deal, like,
yeah, I'm sorry for people if they lost somebody
in the snow stuff, like, that's horrible, I'd
never laugh at that, but I was laughing at the
image, again. So, for those that have access
to my Facebook account that are on my friends
list, I posted, you know, WTF Is it with people
wanting to argue so damn much about shit that
doesn't matter? I post an image or find something
funny, it doesn't mean I want a negative comment.
Either like it, comment nicely, or move on. And
that's pretty much what's breeding on Facebook
and social media at this point, is the fact that
people just want to argue about stupid shit.
It's just, it's not worth it. It's, I mean, it's
fine. to disagree or to state a viewpoint, okay,
but if somebody's posting something like that,
they don't really want to hear a downer. It was
meant as humor. People take shit so seriously
on social media. I'm not gonna lie, sometimes
I'm guilty of it, but it's only, again, in my
fanboyisms. I don't... Sometimes politics, I'll
give you that, because I know some people I've
irritated with that too, but... I try and steer
clear of everything now because I don't want
to end up in a 12 -hour argument on Facebook.
I had one of those with the political thing and
the Obamacare. I really don't care to redo that
scenario of 12 hours of arguing and again over
two differences of opinions. Now mind you, the
other day, and this again comes back to the same
stupidity clause, I was recording with TFG1 Mike.
I believe it was like Tuesday night or something
like that he posted something again political
and he found it humorous and I I couldn't help
like I I liked it or whatever and he was complaining
about something with the Obamacare and I Made
a slight comment or something towards it. Well
a couple people that know us online that we collaborate
with Took an irritated Well, they put it under
the microscope and just zoomed in and basically
just started ramrodding us with it It was stupid
Like, I don't understand why people want to argue
about crap when it has nothing to do with them.
I mean, honestly, it's... I don't jump on other
people's Facebook pages just because they say
something and they're like, oh, this is my opinion,
you know? They'll say their political views or
their belief on this and that. I ultimately don't
care. Like, it's not a big deal. I'm not going
to argue with somebody because everybody has
differing opinions. That's anything. It's like...
bungholes. Everybody has one. So I'm not going
to try and get in on this but anyways it had
to do with the exchanges and how you know young
people aren't enrolling or something like that
and Mike says don't enroll. Well one person starts
flipping out and then it was back and forth between
him and then my brother joins in and then I join
in and then this person wouldn't stop. And then
it eventually came to a point where I said, we're
obviously going to have to agree to disagree
here. No one is going to sway the other party.
And I'm frankly done discussing it. You'll do
what you're going to do and I'll do what I'm
going to do. And then they said, fair enough.
And then more people started in on it. So there
were two other people that started in on it.
And then not really trying to argue, just bringing
it back up. And then one of our Canadian contributors
jumps in on it who has nothing to do with. the
conversation, like I'm not trying to be mean,
but it's... I don't sit there and talk about
Canada's healthcare or Canada the way it's run.
I don't really care to hear it. So then this
other person's jumping in again on it and suffice
it to say this person likes to argue just like
the other person likes to argue that did it to
me. So it was a little annoying to me. And then
I check earlier today and there's another scenario
similar to that of something that was posted
by somebody and I think it might have been Mike
posted another thing and The same people jumped
in on it, and I was like seriously you're gonna
sit here pissing moan about it again But I'm
not trying to drag the show down the down the
crapper like honestly. I'm not I I'm sorry for
and again. This is what headshot is and I'm trying
not to I'm trying to keep it PG 13 rated because
the original headshot was our like X rated as
far as like vocals were concerned and the colorful
euphemisms we would use so I'm just saying that
with comes social media Comes stupidity as far
as like wanting to argue with people And I'm
not trying to call anybody stupid, it's just...
Arguments on social media, it's as dumb as people
saying, I ate a can of tuna for lunch, I went
to the bathroom, I took a shower and I'm going
to bed. You know, it's just dumb. So... And...
Like I said, it's it's it's social media for
you. I mean it I agree It's it helps to connect
people and I love it. It's it's nice and all
that but It's These are I'm gonna quote two more
things Not these are just on my WTF part One
person says you got it right if you got rid of
the constant Facebook post crap of, I slept in
this morning, my bowel movements have been irregular.
Worst case of jock itch ever. Stayed in tonight
and fixed a TV dinner, then threw up two hours
later. Piss off dude, say what? These pages would
be damn near blank. Point being, if it really
matters that much to you, then pick up a damn
phone and say your piece and hang up and do something
meaningful. So another person says it's because
some of us feel we have to be right and the other
guy gal has to be wrong Sorry, I know how you
feel I'm trying to reach a point in my life where
I don't discuss politics or religion But that
cuts out half of the good jokes. I've heard so
it's tough. So I mean again, it's it's just I
I'm gonna end this diatribe before the show goes
down the crapper. So we'll be back after this
Welcome back to altered geek unlimited so I figured
this week I'll go ahead and give you guys a couple
of questions to play around with before I close
it out first being what are some of the Super
Bowl commercials that you're looking forward
to or that you liked that you've already watched
be sure to let us know when the Feedback area
and we'll Maybe put those for a revolving poll
So we can kind of narrow down by the next episode
Which ones everybody kind of likes overall and
we'll cover those ones on the episode The other
thing is if you could be in a TV show or film
No, let's stick with TV show and work with particular
show or person what show would you want to be
on and guest and get to to meet the star of the
show just a fun one there so I think that about
rounds it out for this episode I don't want to
drag it down the rat hole unfortunately I did
during the headshot segment which I apologize
for but should be fun in any case through this
show and the remainder and everything else Maybe
we'll cover something a little bit different.
I know we're going to cover some of the ways
to download TV shows legally next episode, as
well as a little bit of breakdown of the GCR
and awards. Those should be available for viewing
of the categories and the nominees by the time
this episode is live. The voting polls will not
appear until february first so will have to wait
for that uh... other than that uh... i think
everything's good to go so thank you as always
