About this Episode

Steve and Birdman reflect on The Flash's season finale and the multiverse it opens up, discuss how the Jem and the Holograms reboot misses what made the original special, and touch on other superhero shows including Agents of Shield, Gotham, Agent Carter, and Daredevil. They also pay tribute to Mike Blanchard's mother, Kathy, and discuss the challenges of securing celebrity interviews.

Hey, this is Steve blue and you are listening

to the geek cast radio network Hello and welcome

to altered deacon limited episode eighty nine

and your host the megatron phillips and joining

this week is what do you want i'm back uh...

so or without me i'm not considered at all crickets

crickets uh... y 'all it's good to be back It

may Thursday's worth living for outside of tacos.

Taco Tuesday. Taco Thursday. Tuesdays are for

taquitos. Taquitos. So yes, so what's going on

man? Tell me, catch me up. I mean obviously on

a more sincere and somber note, I guess you should

address the big alpha in the room. For those

of you that have been following the social media

for Geekcast Radio, TFG1's Mike's mother, Kathy

Blanchard, passed away this past week, unfortunately.

So Mike is obviously going through the grieving

period right now and trying to figure out what

happens next. So we do wish him the best. Hopefully

he'll be back contributing regularly very soon.

Yes. Rest in peace, Kathy Blanchard. You raised

An interesting son, let me tell you that much.

You must have been a strong woman to put up with

his shenanigans. So I guess we should, I guess

in a weird way we should dedicate this show to

her because without Mike, none of this would

have really happened, I guess, how you guys met,

but still. In fact, actually, what is the origin

story of how you two met? Because I have no idea.

Believe it or not Please tell me dating site

twig. Oh my god Well, the funny thing was I joined

Twitter And then I discovered your show and Then

I started following everybody that followed your

show So I followed Blanchard who had social media

for like he had Twitter for like two months longer

than me and then Started following everybody

that had transformers and then you know geek

stuff and then eventually that's how I bumped

into him and then He's like, yeah, I'm looking

to do a podcast and I'm like, oh, I'm already

doing a podcast and then that's kind of how TFG

one came into existence through my transformer

site and then As they say the rest is history,

but yeah, it was from I joined Twitter to communicate

with your podcast that I listened to streaming

through iTunes on Friday mornings when I was

doing my job. Oh my god, I remember the good

old CRNC 90 .1 FM days! Oh my god, that was so

long ago! It was funny though, I'd listen to

it every Friday until you guys quit doing it.

It's because the teachers moved us to later in

the day. That's why your ratings dropped. I know,

right? I loved the morning drive time radio because

I could come in and be so retardedly energetic.

Well, it was great because all the salespeople

would have their meeting until 9 o 'clock and

then I would get all my crap prepped so that

I could just sit at my desk from 9 until 10.

Man, that's freaking awesome, dude. That is so

cool. Man, I can't believe we've... I mean, our

site's been around for so long. Yours has been

around for so long. I mean, hell, we've almost...

Together our sites we're gonna be near in a decade

in just like two years two or three years. I

Think we're already past the decade between the

two. Well. Oh, yeah Between the two of us were

like 20 years Yeah, but yeah, we've got we just

hit six years or we will hit six years on the

first Yeah, we were seven or seven or eight back

in January So we started 2007. Yeah, we've been

around eight years. Holy crap It's funny how

time flies. It really is. Like, holy crap. I

mean, we now have... We're at the age where we

can show our kids really cool movies. And you

have kids, whereas I do not. I have cats. I have

two cats, a dog, and I have two kids now, so...

Slowly being outnumbered by small people. Yeah,

man. I mean, that's really cool, though. And

like I said, I mean, we have to... acknowledge

our roots and I guess it's unfortunate that we

have to dedicate a show under such unfortunate

circumstances. But like I said, Blanchard's mom

certainly raised an interesting fellow, good

old Grizzly Adams Aquaman himself. Well, she

raised a fellow geek and a fan of radio broadcasts.

Did you ever see that picture of Blanchard on

Facebook this past week where he's got purple

hair? Yes, I'm like, oh my god proof positive

you were what's cool he's like, I I don't know

what made me think this is such a great idea,

but Dude, he looks kind of cool actually In that

picture thinking you know what chicks might have

dug him at some point. I like this I'm totally

taking shots at you. I fucking love you now Although

wait, okay full disclosure here Mike posted a

picture of his mom, I guess, when he was like

two or three months or years old. You know the

picture that I'm talking about? Isn't that his

profile picture? Yeah, yeah. Is it inappropriate

to call his mom kind of hot? I don't know. Can

I just say it? I don't know. I'm just saying.

She was a real looker. And his dog looks really

fun. Snow, I think, is the name of his dog. I

think so, yeah. I love golden retrievers, so

I don't know. They always look so happy to see

you. I've never seen a sad golden retriever in

my entire life. I just don't think it's possible.

Anyway, to get to the show we were going to do

earlier. Well, I don't know if you've seen this,

but I saw this on social media earlier this afternoon.

Do you follow Scream Junkies? Yes. did you see

the surprise wedding of nick monday by the rock

that is so badass and for the rock to do that

well he and he's he even got certified or ordained

as a minister so that he could do that that's

so incredibly badass like that is a story that

he will never forget he was going like you know

what the fuck and during the entire video like

it was just great that's that's such a an awesome

thing for that guy to do yeah that's pretty amazing

i mean especially when you can get a celebrity

or one of your favorites involved in your wedding

in fact i actually had celebrities involved in

my wedding um john saint john the voice of duke

nukem sent me a wedding greeting and we Nice.

We played that at my wedding. He was like, Mike

Dodd, Blair, tie in the knot. You're going to

get laid for life. And he just goes on for like

30 seconds just to do nuke of crap. And then

Stan Bush did some music for mine. And it was

really cool just to know that certain celebrities

are like that. They will do things like that

for you. Like, and to keep going with John St.

John, he prank called me from PAX East, or no,

not PAX East. It was on my birthday, like three

years ago. I get a phone call two o 'clock in

the morning from Duke Nukem telling me to suck

his balls of steel. And I was doing a live stream

at the time, and I'm like, Duke Nukem? And it

was actually him because he was responding. It

wasn't just a soundboard. Like, okay, officially

bucket list made. Now, it's not the rock officiating

my wedding. I'm trying to think who the hell

I'd like to officiate my wedding if I could go

back in time. Okay, I've got a really weird one.

Johnny Five from Short Circuit. Johnny Five.

Just imagine how cool that would be to have Johnny

Five marry you. Or fucking C -3PO. Huh. That's

right. I pick the unexpected. I don't know who

I would want to do that. Peter Collum? Hmm, no.

Frank Welker? Maybe. It's kind of hard for me

to decide. I have so many favorite voice actors.

It's really difficult for me. Dude, Hamill. That,

I would probably get behind. That would be so

fucking badass. What a goddamn Batman. And Kevin

Conroy has to be your... No, okay. Kevin Conroy

marries you, but Mark Hamill's the master of

ceremonies for the evening. Yeah, he would come

up, Tonight we have... ...Steven and Mary. Mark

Hamill, if you're listening, do weddings, dude.

I'd love if you did my voicemail. Actually, you

know what I found out? There was, I can't remember.

Somebody told me this week you can pay Jimmy

Hart from the WWE, the mouth of the South, to

do your voicemail. I think it's like 25 bucks

or something like that. So I was thinking, I

should just get a, cause I have like three or

four different voicemails for like my different

phone numbers. So I should get Jimmy Hart to

do one. Gilbert Godfrey, because he'll do them.

Because what else is he doing? You know, evidently

he's doing a really successful podcast. He has

like a bunch of really cool comedians. I think

he's like number four, like I did or something.

I don't know what he's doing else, but maybe

stand up, maybe? I'm thinking who else is doing

really who does voice at reasonable prices um

I know John St. John will do them I'm friends

with commander Shepard mark mere I think he'll

do them if you ask him really nicely I'm not

gonna say that one way or the other But this

is his favorite voicemail on the on the Citadel

um You know what whatever you guys do your voice

after your interviews you should just collect

a random assortment of voicemail like messages

I Think that'd be funny. I mean like obviously

like you guys know the original bumblebee Dan

That was funny when they interviewed him because

he did he said um That's too complicated, because

he was trying to differentiate between Mike and

Mike. Yeah. And he's like, I'm just gonna call

you Dave. To the other, to Michael Wilson. I'm

just gonna call you Dave. Which I thought was

hilarious. Oh man, I gotta get around to interviewing

more of you. Actually, you know what's funny?

A few weeks ago, I was actually approached by

a PR company, and they never followed back up

with me, which really sucks. I could have the

fucking penguin. I could have Robin Lord Taylor

on the show. That would have been cool. I'm like,

motherfucker, call me back. I want the penguin.

I want to try and get some of the guys from like

Arrow and the Flash. I hear Stephen Amell's really

good with his fans. Which I've thought about

it. I just want to get the right, you know, timing

down. Well, I know what he's doing Casey Jones

right now, so he's probably like really retarded

busy You know what? I'm trying after Comic -Con

see if he's available because like I said, I

think he'd be a fantastic interview Oh, I do

too. I think he'd be awesome because I He's he's

very personable Whenever you see anything from

him. I like to also talk to the guy who does

the flash Grant Gustin Yep, or actually I want

to talk to the guy that plays Cisco That show

he just seems fun. He does he seemed like he's

genuinely a fan of what he does or Jesse L Martin

the character's name completely escapes me Detective

black guy Detective Joe West that's it No, you're

gonna get letters sent all hate mail to um not

giving you my address this time you bastard um

anyway um tell me who else would be really fun

to talk to i would years ago years upon years

ago when thor was coming out uh paramount the

company here in canada that used to take uh care

of them offered me the chance to talk to clark

greg all ready to go but it got pulled at the

last second because of Like, extra filming or

something. And it wasn't until years later that

I realized, man, I could've had fucking Agent

Coulson on my show! Goddamn, that would've been

awesome! I... yeah. That's another one of my

favorites. Even though he doesn't have powers,

he's still awesome. Exactly, because he is the

glue that holds the MCU together. Even though

they don't acknowledge he's alive in the films

anymore. Yeah, which I found that really odd,

but then again... Joss Whedon over the last few

weeks has had, I mean, he's expressed frustration

with Marvel and kind of the whole Hollywood process,

because I think he's done with MCU now, officially.

Yeah, he's, he's, he's so rabid on Marvel right

now that it's, it's almost kind of sickening

just to see him kind of reply to anything about

Avengers. Yeah, which kind of sucks. And then,

then allegedly he was chased off Twitter which

he wasn't he was like guys i just need to focus

and that's cool there was something he said he

was chased uh people had reported he was chased

off because of the black widow character arc

and which is funny because he writes strong women

in his stuff it's i don't know what i i mean

i guess i don't know what they were trying to

do with black widow in this film I thought she

was alright. I mean, she helped her out. She

was good when she wasn't around Hulk. Yeah. I

mean, even when she was captured. Well, when

she was around him, she just seemed like she

wanted his nuts. Wouldn't you want the Hulk's

green zucchini? No, thank you. I'm not gay, and

even I would. But no, I mean, it just seemed

kind of, I don't know. And then there was that

line by Steve Rogers in Tony Stark's party. that

he was like, you know, basically, like, who hasn't?

Yeah. Um, because, like, she was, like, flirting

with Tony Stark in Iron Man 2. Then she was flirting

with Hawkeye in Avengers. In a sense. See, I

got more of a sense of, like, Super Cow Broderies.

It was more of a sibling thing. It was more like

a sibling thing there, though. It was different.

And then... With Captain America, it was almost

kind of that way. Yeah, like I I see Hawkeye

and Black Widow as Like I've got well, they were

like brother and sister. Yeah, and Even with

Steve Rogers, it's sort of like there could have

been something but I respect you too much Sort

of thing. Mm -hmm. But yeah, actually, you know,

it's really fucked up because you speak Yeah,

you speak about strong female characters for

some reason it pisses people off This past week,

I've been watching my Facebook, which I've often

called the cornucopia of stupid over the last

few weeks. No call screeners and no censorship.

People were talking about Mad Max Fury Road and

how MRAs, or Men's Rights Activists, which has

got to be the stupidest goddamn thing I think

I've ever heard, are pissed off because in that

movie... There's Charlize Theron's character,

Furosa, I think it is, or whatever. Half that

movie is chicks killing dudes. And people are

pissy about that. How? Oh, it's degrading men

and all this crap. Like, motherfucker. Can you

people not, like, shut the fuck up for, like,

a day? Can you people, like, take a break? I

don't know. It's so weird just to see how people...

get so up in arms about this. I'm like, you people

don't bitch when you see Ellen Ripley killing

people and fucking aliens, do you? Or Samus Aran

from Metroid. Like, fuck off, chicks are cool.

Who cares? They're all made of the same shit.

I don't get it, man. It's weird. It seems to

me now, like the battle of the sexes is worse

than it's ever been, or maybe it's just because

we have louder voices we're seeing it now. I

think it's because it's all public. I guess so.

It's just, it's so disheartening. Like, there

is one guy on my Facebook, and I really wish

I could out this motherfucker. But he is like...

I think he's convinced every woman in the world's

against him. Or against the male race or whatever.

Because whenever there's anything remotely positive...

Actually, it's funny. Okay, so this past week,

one of the shows that I work with... here in

Canada, it's called Video Game Sophistry, which

is one of the larger video game talk shows on

AM640 and Edge 102 .1, which is a fairly big

deal, right? So there's a fairly large audience.

So one of my producers was interviewing a writer

at BioWare talking about lesbian, bisexual, and

that LGBT, I can't remember what it all stands

for, representation in gaming. did it affect

sales for Dragon Age Inquisition? Because Bioware

has always had, you could have the same sex relationship

in certain games, like in Mass Effect, you could

have a lesbian femme chef, you could have a gay

Commander Shepard if you so want, which is cool,

right? So, he was asking, is this a factor? And

the comments on my Facebook were mostly positive.

They were like, yeah, yeah, this is a great thing,

it's cool. Most people are like, I'm excited

because this represents me. And then this motherfucker

comes in and he's like, there doesn't need to

be this. It's forcing minorities and shit and

gaming. I'm like, motherfucker, are you serious?

Like, it blows my mind that people can be against

we're all supposed to be equal, or at least recognizing

the system that we currently have. Honestly,

it's more advantageous for us as dudes, which

sucks. but we have to recognize that because

the system was built broken we can now fix it

because we can now see it for what it is and

this guy just swearing up and down that this

is a terrible thing like like we're cramming

it in and I don't know I mean it's kind of cool

that we're seeing more representation in gaming

and some of that and I think that's cool hell

I think I think that things should be free for

everybody to kind of choose for themselves. But

at the same time, I don't think everybody should

be shoving shit down each other's throat either.

And that goes all directions. It's not a one

-sided thing. Yeah, I mean, as long as the options

there, that's cool. Yeah, that's all I'm saying.

I mean, if the main character for a game happens

to be gay, cool. Yeah, I mean I don't I don't

really care I mean I'm still gonna play the game

that doesn't matter to me in the slightest I

the the whole thing to me is I see everybody

pissing and moaning about it one way or the other

and It ultimately I mean yeah, it matters, but

it doesn't at the same time I mean as long as

the story's good, and you're not Doing it for

pure fan service. I mean yeah I mean I don't

give a shit if it's if you know the story warrants

it then great whatever I don't you know it doesn't

bother me I I mean, in one of my games, like,

for example, I sent you the Mass Effect games

as a thank you for doing the stuff that you do

for Twig. And in those games, last year or the

year before last, I was playing Mass Effect 3.

And I tried to do all the big romances because

in the end, Mass Effect's a really cool dating

simulator with guns. I've never had my femme

chef pursue a lesbian relationship, and there's

one you can pursue with your ship's assistant,

trainer. I can't remember what her first name

is. Yep. And I just thought that was really cool.

Now, as a dude, I'm thinking, hey, man, that's

really cool if you catch my drift in the subtext

of my voice. But at the same time, I'm thinking,

all right. That's really neat. And even in Mass

Effect 1 with Liara, because the Asari are an

asexual species, you can technically have a romantic

relationship there, because the Asari have no

males, technically, so they're all technically

female. And I just thought that was really cool.

And then with my male Commander Shepard, you

can romance the shuttle pilot, Steve. Which I

thought that was really cool, because I'd never

seen that before in a game. And I think it creates

a better story. You can even turn the biotic

cadence into a romance for male Commander Shepard,

too. And I thought that was really cool, because

you never see that very kind of prominently.

And evidently, there are other characters. I

think one from Heavy Rain is gay, or maybe I'm

thinking of Soul Surve - There was one from the

PlayStation. I can't remember what it was. It

was, uh, Ellen Page was in it. I can see the

trailer in my head But yeah, but back to my original

point it was just it's so weird just to see people

bitching about shit like Mad Max Fury Road or

people bitch it about this that and the other

thing and I Don't know man. Just people gotta

be pissed about something stupid every goddamn

day And it's not even just that I mean, it's

it's films. It's um you raped my childhood you

know and i'm not saying that i'm not excluding

myself from the group of stuff with nostalgia

fanboyisms because i do speaking of nostalgia

fanboyisms have you talked about that gem trailer

yet no oh boy you want to yes yes i do steve

speaking of taking a dump over childhood Okay,

I like it when Hollywood takes a classic idea

and does something new with it. Occasionally

it can be good. And you know what? I'm one of

the few people that thought the new Robocop movie

was somewhat okay. It's not as good as Paul Verhoeven's,

but you know what? It was alright. Then you look

at Michael Bay with Transformers. Arguably two

out of the four movies are okay. The first one

and the third one, in my opinion. Two and four

are guilty pleasures and let's never speak of

them again. The gem of the hologram. So this

thing comes out and it's basically Somebody put

it like this and I couldn't describe it any better.

It's this typical by the numbers ref Suburbia

to riches glitter story. It's you it's glitter

2 .0 for like YouTube and I know Mike Blanchard's

a huge fan of gem. I'm a huge fan of gem too

with the whole They're basically superheroes.

They fight crime. They do these things. There's

the Misfits who attempt to murder them at every

chance they can. There's a supercomputer called

Synergy. There is none of that in the trailer.

I mean, they have to be able... It might as well

be just a generic... Glitter? Or process? Yeah,

I mean, it's like... Yeah, it's just... It's

not even anything resembling it. Which really

sucks. I mean, I was talking with Max Landis

on Twitter, the same guy who did Wrestling Is

It Wrestling and the Death of Superman. He also

did Chronicle a couple years ago. And I said

to him, what the Gem of the Hologram's first

trailer should have been? It would have been

the theme song from the classic 80s cartoon done

as a cover, as a music video. Let that be the

teaser trailer for it. And at Comic -Con premiere,

the full trailer, bring the cast out. Because

that would have got people talking. You would

have got at least an idea on what the buzz was

going to be from it. I imagine the theme song

will make it in there, if not as the credits

song, maybe as a montage song at some point during

the movie. But I really feel that's such a missed

opportunity. Now, I was talking with Andrew Roebuck,

one of the guys I work with on Movie Madness.

And he's like, this looks awesome. And I really

have to question him. Are you sure we watch the

same thing? Now, when we talk about nostalgia

goggles, you know, them taking a crap on us.

And I don't know, I think this is one of those

cases where I really think nostalgia here, it

plays a part. But what I see with the new gem,

the holograms, it looks so boring. Like, nothing

happens. Yeah, it didn't leave anything for me

to actually care. I mean, granted, I'm not a

huge fan of the original source material, but

I understand what it is, and I have seen it,

so I know what it is, and this is nothing like

that. Yeah, like, I wanted to see the Misfits

as a rival band. I thought it would be really

cool to see the synergy give them... their outfits

or something. I don't know. Like I said, ultimately,

what I want for the Gen movie is two -fold. I

want a movie that won't suck. So far, it doesn't

look like that's gonna happen. But, if a Gen

movie should have anything going for it, it should

have an amazing soundtrack. I really worry what

record labels gonna stuff tracks onto this. And

you'd think for a movie like this that gets someone

like, I don't know, Meghan Trainor, Katy Perry,

some superstar, maybe Taylor Swift or something,

to do the theme song for it. Maybe they haven't

announced it yet, though, for all I know. But

yeah, I mean, I expect Gem to have a really good

soundtrack, and I just, I don't know. I am gonna

see this movie, but it's now moved up from one

of my most anticipated, admittedly probably kind

of stupidly, to sort of, eh. That's okay. I don't

know. But more positive news, stuff coming out

of the new Ninja Turtles movie. We know Arrow

himself is Casey Jones and he looks like a badass.

They cast Bebop. I think the guy's name's Carrie

Something Williams. Either way, he played Uncle

Ruckus. the boondocks, which is first off amazing

casting right off Because I love that guy I'm

wondering who they're gonna do rack steady I

think I think they should take a riff from the

new Ninja Turtle series where he's like Russian

or something You know who they should get fucking

Dolph Lundgren Just gonna do the voice Yeah,

or I don't know who's another Russian dude who

could pull that Tough guy off. Just have Arnold

play it. Oh, well, he's more Austrian. Still.

Yeah, but if you could just get the right muscle

-bound sounding voice in there, like, man, that

would be so freakin' badass, or maybe, I don't

know, hell, what's Bill Goldberg doing these

days? That could be cool. Well, they're gonna

have Crane in the movie, too. Really? Yeah. Who

do you think would be cool for Crane? I'm biased.

I like Pat Fraley. Do you think he can still

pull it off? Do you still have it taken seriously

with it being live action, though? I don't know

if they would do it being live action. They'd

want to go for something probably darker and

more, you know, I don't know. I'm thinking they

may go the route of like having Roseanne do it

or something. No, that'd be horrible. Hated that

when I saw that Gilbert Gottfried. I liked when

he was subprime crying in the cartoon, but I

Really don't know I I know that they're gonna

go dark though I mean cuz they they deepened

everything and changed everything so I really

don't see them If they cast him as crying I'm

not watching the movie and he's uh the red skull

and I think that'd be hilarious because you know

he's basically Hollywood's bad guy because nobody

likes him who sounds evil enough they'll just

call Ultron hey your character is out of the

movie so uh I'm trying to think James Spader

nah cuz who He'll always be Ultron now. He'll

be that dude from the Blacklist, and he'll be

Ultron forevermore. Who else? Who's got a really

dark -sounding voice who could pull it off? Maybe,

um, if they take it from animation, maybe they'll

talk to Fred Tescoria, or however the hell he's

gonna say his name. Fred Tettishore? Yeah, he

wouldn't be that bad. I can see him doing it.

Um... They should just call me. I can do Crane.

There you go. Steve, this is your chance to break

into the movies. Hey funny, you know Somebody's

actually doing that with the Simpsons. Oh cuz

they're looking for replacement voices now. Yeah

Cuz the original I think it's like Harry Shearer

or whatever he quit that's that's a tragedy and

honestly With that news, maybe the writings on

the wall. I think I think it's been there for

like 10 years Just no one's bothered to look

at the wall Well, and somebody posted, I saw

it earlier this week, they said, what was it?

They said they actually had the series finale

years ago. Yep, yep. It was called, it had to

do at Christmas, but it was like Christmas 30

years in the future. Yeah, I actually talked

about this a couple weeks ago. Yeah, and it was

like... It's Brock Baker that was trying to...

He impersonated 14 of Harry Shearer's characters

in an audition video thing that he did. Can you

tell? Yes and no. He actually had his own dialogue

kind of flowing between them, so it was kind

of hard to tell. It was younger sounding and

some of them like but it was close enough that

it would be ultimately forgettable when watching

the show Kind of like the difference with Mark

Hamill and Troy Baker. Yeah, it's that kind of

Authentic sound with a little bit of the original

guy in it He couldn't do Skinner or like two

other guys, but he did A good percentage of all

of his characters Like I said with that show

it maybe Take a graceful bow out. But then again,

it'll be in season. What 28 by then Yeah, I would

have liked to see the series end at series 30

but I don't know if I can put up with another

four years of this Although someone Said this

And I think it makes total sense The Simpsons

has just become Sunday night Sunday night at

8 o 'clock. What are you watching the Simpsons?

It's like the 6 o 'clock news. It's just always

been there and That's a good thing and that's

a bad thing good thing is the fact it's become

such a Pop culture and cultural staple that you

know, we just associate that But at the same

time, it's become as forgettable as The Six of

Walkers. I used to watch it. I haven't watched

it in years, honestly. It's just not one of those

things that I care to watch anymore. I don't

even watch South Park or any of those other shows.

I enjoyed The Simpsons, don't get me wrong, but

it's the same schtick over and over and over

and they're behind on the times on the pop culture

when they're attacking it. Whereas you have shows

that are like Family Guy and South Park that

are Instantaneously hitting it. Yeah, like South

Park because they can turn around an episode

in a week Family Guy, I think Seth McFarlane

is just an incredibly talented writer When he

wants to be with the Simpsons, um There are I've

watched I'll watch them when I know there's a

cool couch gang like there was one I watched

This year. I don't remember why I watched it

but it was for I think it was the Family Guy

crossover or something but either way the intro

was done by Don Hertzfeld who's this really weird

animator and it was really weird like just type

in Don Hertzfeld Simpson you'll see exactly what

the fuck I'm talking about I haven't laughed

that hard at something in a really long ass time

and I feel ashamed admitting this one Do you

remember the singer Kesha? Unfortunately. Okay,

so you know that song TikTok she did? Yeah. You

get a Simpsons couch gag like that. I unfortunately

thought that was really clever. I just thought

it was kind of funny, but now that I'm a terrible

human being for remembering that. Yeah, I don't

know. I mean, it's so funny. We used to have

such memorable Simpsons. We used to have such

good gags out of it. I actually watched a new

episode this week. I don't know why. I think

I was waiting for Big Brother Canada to come

on or something, or maybe it just finished. And

it was Milhouse's cousin came over from the Netherlands.

They made some kind of a weird incest joke. And

then they had a gag about e -cigarettes and vaping.

How it's not marketed towards kids then a poo

pulls out would you like smiling lemon or watermelon

or something like that and I Got nervous and

I was sitting there thinking What weren't they

talking about this like two years ago or something?

You're right. I think so. Yeah, like it was like

I remember this being in the news and I'm thinking

why is this relevant now? Um And I know it was

someone big doing the voice, but I'd give a fuck

less It just, I don't know. I want The Simpsons

to be what I remember, but it's never going to

be. But then again, I mean, go back and watch

some of the classic episodes. Are they as good

as you remember? A few of them really are. But

some of them, eh, not so much. Anyway, more positive

things that do talk about. Because I know when

we were just talking about negativity sucks,

and yet here we are. This year for TV, I think

actually was really good. In terms of a lot of

things that I saw this year. Because a lot of

TV shows have just had their season finales or

are wrapping up right now for this week. A show

that dramatically improved, in my opinion, was

Agents of Shield. Yes. Considerably. Now they've

set up all the inhuman crap. They kind of talked

about Ultron. It'll be interesting to see how

it all ties into Civil War next year. So I was

fairly pleased with that. One show that I didn't

think would touch me in the way that it did,

and once again, full disclosure here, it's because

I know the guy who writes it, was The Goldbergs.

And the season finale for this year was actually

kind of a tearjerker in just the way that the

outro was written for that show. If that was

a series finale, I would have been okay with

it. But they got picked up for season three,

so no worries there. That show was considerably

one of the strongest comedies this year. I was

so surprised by it. I'm trying to think of other

comedies I really liked. One show that got canceled

earlier this year, and I really wish it hadn't,

was a show called Selfie, but I think the name

doomed it. I'm pretty sure I've talked about

that before. Yep. Gotham was inconsistent for

me. I wanted to love it. I liked it, but I haven't

watched anything since it came back. What did

I miss, Steve? Because I know you watched it,

right? Yep. Did I miss anything? Am I going to

care when it comes back next year? A lot of the

crap in between was just filler. That's how I

felt anyway. When it came to the last episode,

you had Bruce doing research on his dad and all

the stuff he was hiding. You get the Riddler

enigma finally has a mental snap. Where he's

thinking about you know he's doing his riddles

and his head to himself And he's catching himself

in his own riddles like when he's writing stuff

to people So like it's completely warping his

mind And then there's the What is it's penguin

pretty much took over the entire city as far

as like mob bosses Because everybody's taken

out of the game except for Falcone and he retires

And Moroni gets shot by fish fish got pushed

over a building by Penguin and Penguins like

this city is mine and you know that's the end

of his story for the episode there Bruce finds

a remote that opens up the Batcave Because his

dad has like a secret chamber that opens up between

behind the fireplace They didn't it was a push

-button remote like a garage door opener He finds

it in a book though, that's what's cool really

Alfred's like don't press the button and Bruce

is like I have to press the button That's basically

how the dialogue went Not as stupid sounding

but it that's how it went and then next season

they're saying that they're gonna introduce mr.

Freeze They're gonna introduce The Joker's origin

story without turning him into the Joker so that'll

be nice But I don't know I'm I was underwhelmed

by that show compared to Shield, which I've said

before, like the middle stuff's kind of filler.

It's only good around a movie. And then like

the episode before Age of Ultron on through to

the end was good. It's a lot of the inhuman stuff.

I kind of thought it was effed up how Coulson

lost an arm. My guess is he'll get something

cool for the season. He's going to get prosthetics.

He'll get a death walk. Arm that'll be fucking

awesome. You're gonna loop Skywalker arm with

fake skin Maybe that'll be how they introduced

the idea of the life model decoy Hmm like by

building him an arm Yeah, they're like maybe

like Pad and Oswald's character will make like

an off -color comment like oh, I've got the same

model That would be funny because there's like

eight of them yeah, he and he'd be like what

nothing and just keeps walking. So that could

be funny. Another show this year that didn't

survive, and I really wish it did, was Constantin,

but they're shopping it around right now. Because

I think that show would survive better on a CW,

because CW is basically superhero TV Central

now. And it's doing it really well. I think that

they've done really well with the iZombie, with

Arrow, with Flash. They're gonna have Legends

of Tomorrow. Which that trailer looks so sick.

I was actually pretty stoked for it. I'm like,

oh my god, this looks so cool! Vandal Savage?

Like, ah! I had a little bit of a joygasm there.

I wonder... If we're gonna start to see the beginning

of superhero burnout though because only although

if CW can carry the torch and do it consistently

well like they have Maybe not. I mean Are you

really curious to see if they can keep up? the

momentum because basically legend of tomorrow

is just this society of the TV show and Supergirl

I think that looks kind of cool Think it's cool,

but I think it's gonna either a fall into the

trope of sex in the city with with tights Well,

they've they've already kind of equated it to

being like the devil wears Prada So I'm not entirely

sure where they're gonna go with the show I'll

give it a while and I'll watch it But again,

I'm I'm not sure I'll give it till midseason

You got until December to impress me. I gave

it that long with Gotham, so we'll see. I can't

think of what else here. I'm looking at a list

of canceled shows. I'm trying to think of any

ones that really grabbed my attention this year.

Let me see. I'm honestly surprised. Let me see,

what the fuck is it? I'm just trying to find

a part. And I've lost my train of thought, goodbye.

I'm sorry. Evidently, one of the shows that's

gonna come to an end is Hot in Cleveland. That

surprises me. I thought that show didn't go really

well. Forever? Wasn't that the show with Mr.

Fantastic? Yep. I thought that was kind of a

neat idea, actually. But it seemed like it wasn't

going to go anywhere, honestly. Looking through

my list of stuff here. So you're just going to

have to give me just a moment. Let's just stick

with the superhero stuff, I guess, for the moment

and kind of see. I hear people were kind of pissed

about it. The season was kind of weak. What made

it suck? I don't know. I didn't enjoy it as much

as I did season two. I guess that's kind of what

it is. I hear people have said the finale really

changed things up for it. It changed up and it

split up everybody kind of and then you know

Arrows basically like well the arrows dead. I'm

just gonna go live and then John You know Diggle

is gonna Have a some sort of head protection

costume type thing for next year and then You

know they're still gonna be doing their thing

but They made it seem like the the Adam died

and even though they released the trailer for

Legends of Tomorrow like the day before or the

maybe the day of. So it's kind of a hollow death.

Oh, yeah, considering people fucking like kind

of do it. Yeah. Yeah. So, I mean, overall, it

was all kind of I don't know. Speaking of superhero

shows, what did you think? of Agent Carter I

Didn't like it to begin with but it kind of grew

on me the more I watched it Yeah, I was kind

of the same but like I fell off after about the

fifth episode just because it wasn't grabbing

me as much as shield does but I'm glad it got

picked up for a second season Yeah, I'm stories

you tell next well They're going to LA now instead

of New York, so there's other possibilities.

Just not sure where they're going to take it.

The only one I'm real optimistic for is Flash.

Flash, I haven't seen the season finale, but

I've been reading up about it. The fact that

the multiverse is now open to them and they have

a speed force as an established thing. Man. Those

writers can now have so much fun. Well, they

put a twist on everything at the end. I was concerned

that they were going to go the Flashpoint Paradox.

But they almost went that route without really

spoiling anything, because this story, they completely

put it in a different direction. I didn't see

coming. They skipped that and they skipped what

almost looked like it was gonna be the crisis

on infinite earths kind of thing where you know

Flash's or infinite crisis or whatever where

he's going through different timelines and trying

to fix stuff and none of that happened. It went

in a completely different direction because when

they were about to have Flash save his mother

future Flash which is the one that has the proper

suit. Like the actual red suit with the white

and the gold instead of just all, you know dark

red and gold Kind of stopped him and then shook

his hand like no don't upset the the history

You get to see that but you also got where Eobard

Thawne is getting ready to take the time machine

Jay Garrick's helmet that was so cool that I

saw he he saw that knew what it was and he's

like time to go Which tells me that somewhere

Jay Garrick is in existence, but they don't tell

you who he is So I'm wondering What they're gonna

do with that they hinted at Cisco as being vibe

Earth 2 is gonna kind of merge over a little

bit So yeah, I'm kind of Looking to see what

they're gonna do. I mean, it's I Hope now that

they've introduced the idea of multiverse It

brings me so much joy There's a possibility that

a rumor this year could possibly come true That

we can see Tom Welling back as Superman From

the Smallville universe mm -hmm my god that would

That would be one of the greatest moments in

superhero TV ever I think Is that would be like

Man, I don't even know what to say what that

could be like just that or maybe even have Michael

Rosenbaum show up That would be cool. Like oh

There's so many cool possibilities that the flash

can now do it with legends of tomorrow dealing

with time travel Like I don't know like it's

it was CW possibly even getting Constantine now

Because that would be a great route for them

to explore magic So man like I said, it's a good

time to be DC in TV movies not so much TV Nerd

boner And it's kind of it's kind of funny because

Like Stephen Amell said arrow is done. No more

arrow suit. I've worn it for the last time which

means next season He's gonna be green arrow.

Finally And I'm almost wondering what they're

gonna do with that vibe is Cisco and they kind

of insinuate that he can see vibrations through

the universe and Because of what he reveals to

Wells thon And then there's a clip of something

happening and you see Hot girl show up before

she's hot girl Yeah, Earth 2 is definitely going

to be crossing over because that's why Jay Garrick's

helmet flew through. I'm wondering if they're

gonna have Wally West show up. I hope so. I think

they said that they are gonna have Wally West

in season 2. Oh, yep. Going to introduce a few

more speedsters next year and a bunch more villains.

So yeah, that's pretty much Should be nice if

they bring in Green Lantern though, because they've

also hit that Yes So kind of switching gears

a little bit before we close it out Still in

the superhero realm but different category of

it I watched the first episode, and I just, I

didn't have the energy to go back to it yet.

Wait. I'll say this, because I watched the entire

series over the last month. I finished it like

two weeks ago. You gained such a new respect

for Vincent D 'Onofrio, it's unreal. That's what

I've heard about him. I've heard that he's done

really well. And with Charlie Costing, I have

a place, Matt Murdock. When the TV Awards come

around for like I think it was it Emmys Golden

Globes. What the hell is for TV? I think it's

Golden Globes. Maybe no, maybe I don't know I'm

not sure someone's getting nominated from those

series. This is an off you deserved sad thing

is besides Harrison Wells or You know for superhero

stuff. He's really the only Actor we've had that's

our character. We've had that's actually been

worth a damn. Yeah But yeah, why'd you get a

chance stick with it I really think you'll like

how it ends Actually Sticking with superhero

stuff. I kind of hope they find a way to have

a cameo With maybe having daredevil or Matt Murdock

show up on shield Don't know how they do it But

they could Especially with how shield ended how

they're talking with sky forming the new team

That's a possibility who knows that might feed

into the defender series which happens in like

two years Anyway moving on yes, um, I kind of

mentioned this last week with The other Mike

the Have you heard of the the ed ex ed ex org?

Smithsonian The rise of superheroes and their

Impact on pop culture. Oh It is I've just enjoyed

talking about it because it's fun It's a class

by Michael Uslan and Stanley With the Smithsonian

And you have until tomorrow to pay to be verified

to get a certificate from them and an original

piece of art. Now, it's all digital, which is

kind of a downer, but... How much does it cost?

It's 50 bucks. But to me, it's worth it because

when you go through the class, it's... You get

to kind of see the innards of the comic industry

and kind of see how Things turned out the way

that they did like Superman is basically the

story of Moses In its parallels and then they

show you kind of the Greek mythology that comes

into it and then the the rise of comics in their

times of how they started I was like magazines

and comic clips in a magazine and then they compiled

them and you know so on and They they have it

to where you know the first week was the secret

origins of comic books Week two was the Golden

Age of superheroes Like their creators creations

of the Golden Age patriotic superheroes, and

they have these really cool basically PowerPoints

that You fill out, and it's and you turn it all

in at the end at the last week they call it a

sketch pad and You have to do research and you

basically get to create your own superhero. And

then next week, I believe that they're starting

the creation of the villain. And then they send

you to like this website, like hero machine type

thing that you can basically piece them together

and color them and do all that stuff on your

own. So it's been a real interesting class to

take. but if you don't care about the certificates

or anything that you can just take for free and

It's still a fun experience You can still get

in on it You can take it for free You wouldn't

get the certificate, but you'd get the completion

of it. It's just It'd be for a fun thing to do

Send me a link after the show. I'll just do it

tomorrow afternoon. Sounds good. All right. But

yeah, I think that's about it. Yeah, I mean,

obviously, we started the show off on a heavy

in there. We kind of hit all the notes of all

the things, and... We'd love to hear from you

guys that kind of talk about this I mean there's

a lot of interesting topics that we that we like
