About this Episode

The hosts discuss games that failed to deliver on their promises, from Destiny's missing story content and day-one DLC practices to broken releases like Aliens: Colonial Marines. They compare story-driven standouts like Halo: Reach and ODST with forgettable titles, debate the industry's shift toward multiplayer-only games versus single-player and couch co-op experiences, touch on Gotham's potential, and riff on Microsoft's confusing Windows naming decisions.

Sentinel online. Now loading the Geekcast radio

network of podcasts. Hello and welcome to...

Altered Geek Unlimited, episode 60. Oh my god!

I know, I don't know if it's actually ahead or

even with... Off the cuff, I think it's still

one behind, isn't it? No, you're ahead now. You're

two ahead, so. Oh, yay! Because I got lazy. Trust

me, I was totally conscious of the fact that

I was letting you... That you repair it's like

first week. I was like, okay now we're even the

second week goes like I guess you can have it

As a crazy Charlie Sheen would say winning but

Sorry bad bad joke, um So what's what's been

going on with you guys? Well, I'm having a pleasant

day What is what does this episode typically

go up? It'll be up Friday. This is Tuesday. So

as of right now, I'm on a plane to Las Vegas

on broadcasting from the future My mixer or died

this week and it's how I record all my shows

how they always sound super professional awesome

Yeah, my nice 4 -channel mixer my Behringer bit

the dust this week and this thing When I lose

a piece of technology, it's like losing a child

Like I love this thing like hell I cried when

my ps3 died When this thing died I went into

a furious rage because I'm like live damn it

live Like literally I was like pounding the table.

It never gets any easier So that's been my week

although Like this weekend I get to hang with

UFC fighters George St. Pierre and I'm just gonna

talk about Captain America the whole time because

he was bat rock in winter soldier oh nice i'm

gonna say yeah i've never seen you fight but

you fought captain america so how was that and

yeah it's gonna be interesting so it's being

sponsored by nos energy drink and 7 -eleven so

i'll let this still exist yeah it's gonna be

interesting to do this because my wife can't

drink nos energy drink because she's got a like

uh blood pressure problem Whereas they're gonna

expect me to drink all this and awesome like

are you sure you want to make this decision?

Cuz there's no going back. I Know what you get

like on Red Bull, so oh boy fun, but I get to

see Penn and Teller So I'm pretty excited for

that that will be cool. Yeah, so I'm hoping I

get to cruise around Las Vegas and not burn the

place to the ground So this week has definitely

been a mixed bag Well, first of all, poor one

out for broken technology. That's right. Man,

I can't think of the last time I had something

break on me, knock on wood. Now I've been, geez,

what have I been doing? I've seen you play Destiny

a bit. Yeah, I mean I'm so wow it's weird like

when I sit down and play that game with my friends

I'm having a blast and then as soon as I sign

off I'm in the off -the -cuff Facebook chat And

my friends and I are just tearing that game apart

It closed Luke cave so I was very sad I mean

there's more there's other Luke caves, so we're

not worried about that, but we're just like But

you know that we jump back out and we play it

and we're having fun, we're having a good time

and then we jump off and then we're just, you

know, talking about, it's like we were talking

about Fred behind his back. It's like, yeah,

we have fun hanging out with you. And then you

get off and man, that guy's a dick. I mean, basically

that's how destiny is for us. And it's weird

because I don't think, I know Danner and Joe

have had experience with MMOs. before with City

of Heroes, but myself and my wife and I believe

Shaunzy We've never really experienced an MMO

We've always played games that are pretty much

feature complete from the beginning not games

that evolve over time And We just aren't it's

very hard for us to get in the mindset of playing

Destiny because when you sit back one of the

best things I heard And it kind of makes me think

is that About destiny is that it does not feel

like a game that was in development for the shipped

product mind you Does not feel like a game that

was in development for five years by a team of

500 people that cost $250 to make The shipped

product does not feel that way and There's a

lot of stuff that's been coming out on reddit

about Like what happened to the game in the last

12 months because people have been compiling

like from the The video documentaries that bungee

did for the game saying like this is gonna be

in the game And that's gonna be in the game and

you're gonna be able to do this and that and

the other stuff People have been compiling all

those videos and and writing that stuff down

and then none of that stuff is present in the

game that some people have had where it shows

all the new content that's going to come out?

Yes, and what's really disappointing about that

is that content is actually sitting on everyone's

system. Fuck me. Are you going to access it?

I don't know if people were able to access it

or not. I just know that it's sitting on everyone's

system, and that's another thing that we got

in the off -the -cuff argument we got into was

about It wasn't so much because that came as

like part of the day one patch put destiny in

you start installing it and then you turn it

on you download another 15 gigabytes of game

data and Everyone was kind of like well, what

is this stuff? Well now we know what that stuff

was It's the story DLC that was supposed to come

out in December and it's the and then the second

one comes out in Like January or February and

you're gonna have to pay another $15 15 to $20

for that content if you didn't get a season pass

But The argument that we kind of got into in

the Facebook chat was, you know, what's about

day one patches? And I said, there's a difference

between a day one, like most day one patches

for video games are balanced patches. They're

like little like 10 megabyte files that, you

know, maybe they clean up the control scheme

or they fix like some crazy enemy AI that was

like way out of hand in, you know, the game that

won gold. And that's what that is. It's not.

15 gigs of story content that we're going to

sell you later So there's some some strife about

that because one of the things I was really hoping

for was that the Story DLC for the game and anyone

else listening to this and listens off the cuff

you're probably gonna hear me repeat the same

stuff over again, but I I was hoping that with

that DLC that they might be able to expand on

Destiny and open it up a little bit make it feel

a little more natural instead of a stiff stiff

as it is but the fact that a lot of that DLC

is already on people's consoles just waiting

for them to You know buy an unlock code for Means

that it's gonna be more of the same where you

run around with your tinklebot and stick them

in a computer And he sets off an alarm and then

you start shooting stuff because he doesn't know

how to hack properly I'm really sick of companies

doing the whole on disc DLC or like you said

day one patches. It's a really unpleasant Side

effect of game development today. I mean EA's

pulled this shit Capcom is notorious for this

shit I think there's a difference between like

a day one Like I said, I think there's a difference

between on disc DLC and a day one patch like

I really do and Like I don't like the day I hate

the on disk DLC, which is one of the reasons

why I'm like this annoys me because You know

this should not have happened at least I should

have downloaded 15 gigabytes the day it came

out You know, I should not have downloaded all

this stuff already You know that that should

be hidden in a patch that like borderlands did

it borderlands would release a patch Like two

days before their DLC came out that everybody

had to download but you know That's just so you

could still play with your friends if they bought

the DLC and got a gun That you didn't have you

know what i'm saying? Yeah um Like what what

destiny did is is completely crazy and what's

weird is they didn't tell anybody what it was

the other game that I can think of that did this

recently was infamous second son when you put

that game in it downloads another five gigabytes

off of the internet for the game, but Sucker

Punch told you what that was for It's for expanded

content like they added Between the going gold

and The game that was released they added in

a whole bunch of like, you know Piddly little

side quests and stuff just to kind of pad the

game out which was fine And that's what they

said. They said when you when you boot it up

You'll be downloading all the side quests the

game comes with all the story missions on it

Yeah, and now here's all the side quests that

you're gonna be able to do if you choose to do

it But they didn't charge you for it. They weren't

like Here, pay us $60 for the story and then

now pay us another $5 to $10 for the side quests.

It was just, you know, we wanted to work on these

while the game, you know, the game was in certification

and now they're done and you can have them. But

here's the rest of the game we are working on.

Now, my fear with Destiny and just the more I

agreed. And of course, what I'm reading is Internet

sleuthing going on. by Reddit users and some

other people. None of this is from Bungie or

Activision or anything like that, but my theory

is that with the declining sales of like Call

of Duty and like I can't remember what Activision's

other big franchise was, they wanted Destiny

to be this massive crypto. Yes. And I think what

happened was Bungie made this amazing game That

was everything that we all wanted it to be but

Activision didn't know how Sustainable that was

from a money -making standpoint So in the last

they spent the last year hacking and slashing

that game up into bite -sized chunks that could

be sold And that's my theory as to what happened

but one of the reasons I was excited about I

was excited about Bungie making destiny and I

completely over it completely overshadowed the

fact that it was an Activision published game.

And the reason that that overshadowed it for

me is because I thought Bungie would have the

clout to tell Activision. No, that's not how

you do it. And from everything I've seen and

heard, like all the conjecture and just what

I've seen in the game and stuff like that, Bungie

didn't went out Activision one and Even if that

is the case, I don't think bungee can say anything

over fear of being sued into oblivion Yeah So

because you know Activision put up a healthy

chunk of money to advertise the the crap out

of this game Probably and not to mention help

fund its development. So it's kind of like, you

know Activision owns Activision owns Destiny

and in a weird way they might as well kind of

own Bungie right now because If if Bungie's name

wasn't attached to this game, nobody would care

Yeah, basically unless this was some like AAA

studio No one cares if it was sucker punch or

Naughty Dog people would care but not as much

but Bungie and the fact that the game feels like

Halo in a way They're selling it on that too

It's I don't know see the play I said this on

another show that I do I said if they're talking

about a 10 -year plan They better be worried

about the next 10 months Yeah, I already starting

to drop off and that sucks because this game

can be fun Well, they're doing a lot of things

that They're doing a lot of smart thing. I can't

really see they're doing smart things They're

making good decisions and handling them poorly

The communication from bungee regarding Just

anything for this game is poor And they're making

jokes at the community's expense and I don't

think they're very funny And I don't like the

whole you know The loot cave totally undermines

the way the game is meant to be played. You don't

need to tell me how to play again You made a

game we played it your way and it's broken Yeah,

your way sucks. My way is fun. Well, shooting

at a hole in the ground for two, three hours

at a time is not fun. But it gets results. I

just put on music and just kind of sit there

and just kind of chill out and hang out with

people. But yeah, I totally hear you. Yeah, but

I don't like them telling me that I'm playing

the game the wrong way. And it's like, no, I

tried playing the game your way. Your way doesn't

work. And while I did the loot cave I did not

the only thing I benefited from the loot cave

was just being able to upgrade my crypt arc and

get weapon parts and like Exotic materials for

upgrading stuff. I never once I mean I must have

gotten at least ten purple engrams out of that

But none of them ever decoded as purple engrams

or purple items. They were always blue or green

I ended up having to just grind out and getting

what's called vanguard marks in order to buy

my armor like i had to buy all of that and one

of the things i keep seeing bungie call back

to with regards to the loot cave and how it's

not meant to be played that way is that they

wanted all the loot in the game they wanted you

to be proud of all the loot in the game that

you got like the the gun that you pick up they

want you to have earned that and have it be this

Thing that you remember like a story that you

tell your friends and while that's cool in theory

I can't tell you where I got a single piece of

anything like even before loot cave or after

loot cave like I said I Anything I got out of

the loot cave. I'm not using anything. I got

out of the loot cave I used the loot cave stuff

because it was not better than what I had I used

that just for parts and crafting materials Every

gun and piece of like every gun that I have I

got for shooting some random dude on the way

to doing something and All the armor I got I

bought that like there's nothing epic about that

Like zero like you're failing at your own mission

statement I can tell you how I got it. It was

right place right time I got my exotic rocket

launcher because I decided I got ten minutes

to kill before I'm gonna go to bed. I'll play

a skirmish match And through random chance, have

an exotic rock -a -lodger. And I guarantee you,

if mics were on, people would have been calling

me names all up and down, had that happened.

So the game's a little too much of freak luck.

Now we should bring Steve back into this. And

I have kind of a, because I think, Mike, you

and I have kind of hit on something. Games that

didn't deliver what they promised or things that

maybe went wrong. I mean, one example, who here

played Aliens Colonial Marines? Nope. Nope. I

know pain. No, no, no. I can I can I can talk

with you about this. I have no firsthand experience

with it, but I know where you're going with it.

Yeah, like this is a game that was shown off

by Sega and Gearbox for like probably two or

three E3s and the demo, the tech demo board.

The Sulaco looked amazing, and some of the stuff

you saw on LV -426 with the aliens running down

the hallway looked amazing, looked really cool.

And then we get this game, and it's literally

a cosmic joke, would be the best way to describe

it. Stupid enemy AI, textures that look like

they came out of late 2009. Let's just call it

what it is, it's a joke generator. Oh, so like

the Star Trek video game with the Gorn. Yeah,

like, and that's the thing, we're promised. This

is a canonical story, like Star Trek and Alien's

Colonial Marines. And here's the shitty thing.

This story, this piece of shit, is officially

considered canon to the 1986 James Cameron classic.

And here's the best part. Did you know Hicks

is alive? He didn't die on the prison planet.

No, that was some random Weyland -Yutani mercenary.

which evidently, you know, Ripley couldn't tell

by looking at them when they performed the autopsy.

Like, Jesus, man! And it sucks because that game

had promised so much and it didn't deliver. And

another game that was hyped up, I rather enjoyed

it though, was Halo ODST. I loved it. Loved it

a lot of people consider that the worst game

in the franchise blasphemy See the music the

sound design in that game is beautiful Well,

I see for me the only to the of the six not well

seven if you count Halo Wars All the seven games

in the Halo series that matter to me ODST and

reach are the only ones Those are the ones that

are actually it's funny. Those are the ones.

I like the most I feel like those two Did the

most with story in game? Yes Whereas like I have

played halo halo 2 halo 3 have not played halo

4 which is just a pretty looking Metroid Prime

But I feel like you're playing through those

the story I had no idea what was going on and

I bring this up all the time with with people

whenever I bring up hail I'm like, I have no

idea what's going on and oh good 75 80 percent

of the time I either get I hear I hear oh you

have to read the books and the other you know

20 percent of the time I get agreement that no

idea what was going on but the mechanics in it

were really fun which I agree Halo is a very

competent first -person shooter it's a lot of

fun to play and there's a lot of cool things

going on but I have no idea what's happening

And ODST and Reach just the way that they were

presented, like there was story there. There

were characters you did care about. Yep. And

it's not that people didn't care about Master

Chief or Johnson or Cortana. There was a relatable

element with those other games. And I don't know,

it seems to me like in the last couple of years.

Just things in the game industry are just I don't

feel they're where they should be I mean I can

think of another game that was supposed to blow

open the world in a huge way There are two games

I can think of Street Fighter X Tekken or cross

Tekken It's supposed to be a huge deal supposed

to be this huge Namco Bandai Capcom crossover

fighters supposed to take the world by storm

Then we find out there are 12 characters locked

on the disk and people discover them by just

mining files that sucks and the game by itself

sucks and there was another game this was done

by id software the guys who did doom and quake

there was a game called rage they even went so

far as to promote it in breaking bad fourth season

this game also sucked And they're just, I don't

know, it's like, we get these unrealistic expectations

because we get these flashy press conferences,

we get all these really cool things, and it just,

it's not where I think it should be. I mean,

I mean, another game that I think let a lot of

people down, but they went back and fixed it

with Mass Effect 3, with the laser color ending,

which pissed a lot of people off. But they went

back and gave us the extended cut six months

later. Which I think the whole thing was BS.

I don't think they should have done that. See,

I'm glad they did because I wanted to see what

happened. And I'm most happy with the ending

where you choose control and Shepard controls

the Reapers and rebuilds the galaxy. I like getting

that kind of closing. But the laser's ending,

I could see how that could be fulfilling for

some. but not for all having not played it i'm

just looking at the at the bigger ramifications

of feedback to a game maybe of feedback to anything

imagine i mean imagine if they had done it just

a hypothetical here imagine if they had done

that to like um lost or um Like the last chapter

of any given book had been rewritten because

you know fan reaction to it was was so like wrong

or like I don't know any movie were you know

didn't end satisfactorily like I feel like just

the Yeah, it sets a bad precedent for the the

artistic for artistic vision is that would that

be Have either of you seen a movie called The

People versus George Lucas? Yes, I have. Okay,

so Steve, I'm presuming you haven't. No, unfortunately

not. There's an argument in the movie that says,

when does a piece of art or who does the piece

of art belong to? Does it belong to the artist

or does it belong to the people who are going

to consume it? And Mike brings up a very interesting

point there. This is setting a very dangerous

precedent. In Mass Effect 3's favor, in its defense,

it kind of worked out. But at the same time,

if we compromise once, what's gonna happen next?

Okay, I know what you're talking about here.

Yeah, I mean especially with George Lucas going

back and re -editing these things every few years,

saying this is now his definitive vision, this

is now this, this is now that, and there's people

like, oh, I really want the original Unaltered

Trilogy because that's my Star Wars, but I can

see how it is not his. And he's openly come out

and said, guys, this is... my movie so i don't

know i mean it's really bad and you see even

in comic books you could even argue this when

a popular character dies hell right now in comics

they're killing Wolverine you know fan reaction

is gonna suck you know he'll be back same with

superman well they always come back yeah i mean

it's comics no one truly stays dead i mean there's

a great short film on YouTube. It's by Max Landis.

And it's called The Death of Superman. And it's

basically explaining how Superman didn't... He

changed comics in the 90s because he killed death.

It made it mean nothing. And I think that extends

to other pieces of art as well. And with companies

compromising like that, or not compromising,

or even, like I say, companies telling us you're

playing the game wrong, Don't know I'm not liking

a lot of where this is potentially headed well,

okay, here's the thing I I I compare I do a lot

of comparison with what I'm talking about destiny

to Borderlands And I honestly the loot cave and

stuff like that well, that's fun in destiny I

never expected that like patching that out. I

completely I'm okay with that like I'm completely

with them. Okay going in there and removing it

But for them to say you're playing the game wrong

that or to imply that that frustrates me Go ahead

fix your game because we found a hole in it,

but don't sit here and tell us we're playing

it wrong But like I the reason I reason I go

back to that is because Borderlands 1 to me and

all of my all of us on off the cuff Is a really

we really really like that game like if there

was a if they do a next -gen like re -release

of Borderlands I'm like 90 % sure we will all

buy it again and play play the ever -loving crap

out of it But the reason we like it so much is

because it is a broken game full of exploits

just full of them and when I say like exploits,

I mean glitches like there's a I'm not sure how

familiar you are with that game, Dodd, but in

one of the DLCs, there's something called like

the Nox's Armory. Yeah, yeah, I got it. There's

a glitch where you can keep getting into the

armory by throwing med packs on the ground in

front of the locked door and then you can fall

under the floor and walk into the armory. Like,

we did that hundreds of times. hundreds of times.

I found a glitch in, what was the game, Transformers

Fall of Cybertron. If you go through in the part

where you're supposed to be Starscream and you're

breaking into the area where the Insecticons

and Shockwave are at, where you're supposed to

release Grimlock, if you go through the tunnels

in jet mode, not just to get up to the tunnel,

but if you actually fly through the tunnels in

jet mode it breaks the level and you can actually

bypass getting Grimlock and stay at Starscream

and go on through the game and eventually you

get stuck because there comes a point where you

have to lift up these huge barrels to unlock

certain areas but you can play up to that point

in Starscream Well, that's that's cool the the

the part that I was that I what I was getting

at though with that really long story was You

know Borderlands being a broken game. We were

super excited when Borderlands 2 was announced

And while we still had fun with that Gearbox

decided to start policing that game and patching

out exploits and each patch they made like lessened

Borderlands 2 for me because It's like I bought

Borderlands 2 off of the promise of Borderlands,

which was going to be this fun, broken game that

was policed by the community, not by the publisher.

And all of a sudden to Gearbox, Borderlands 2

became this Halo level game that needed to be

policed. Like they had to put in balance patches

for the guns and change loot drops and... and

all this other stuff and every change they made

drove me farther and farther away from Borderlands

2. But that goes into Destiny. Going into Destiny,

like just given Bungie's track record, I expected

them to police that game and keep it, you know,

redo balance patches and to keep it clean and

fix, you know, exploits that people found. So

when they patched the loot cave, I was actually

more surprised that it took them so long to patch

it. rather than that they did patch it um but

i don't know it's just it's just one of those

things you're going back to what you were talking

about with mass effect i don't i still think

it's they i don't know i i've never had a game

that i actually like even if i didn't really

care for the end i've never played a game where

they've gone back through and patched in a new

ending Yeah, I mean I've had endings really piss

me off both notably Halo twos Yeah, like there

and it's weird just to think there are things

like BioWare is the first developer to go back

and say hey, you know what we're listening to

you Now imagine if they hadn't done that how

much work could they have gotten if they hadn't

had to do that? Yeah, well, I mean there were

people like There there were there was actually

legal cases too Like people had tried to sue

by were saying this was false advertising saying

your choices in the galaxy matter and I've played

that game up, but I played the entire trilogy

multiple times with multiple different Actions

to an end In the end it all comes down to the

three choices control synthesis or destroy the

Reapers And I don't know like It's fascinating

the fact that they would go back and fix that

because but then again that maybe because I think

Bioware really cares about its fans But you think

bungee would be the same kind of company where

if there was something really negative they'd

listen now They are fixing loot drops in destiny

to make them a little more Consistent where if

you get purple or always decode purple you get

blue and always deep decode blue or higher Yeah,

you'll never get shit which well that patch was

supposed to hit today, and it hasn't yet Oh,

well now I know because I'm like I haven't played

that game in a few days. It's it's really there's

a great Twitter account the legendary engram

And he posted one of his tweets today. He goes

the new loop patches isn't isn't it isn't up

yet, but your patience is And I just remember

because you know that guy he There's a guy that

shows up on the weekend that still sells you

the exotic stuff. I was at the geek garage sale

this past weekend in Grand Rapids, and I saw

this awesome tweet go out. I don't know if I

favored it or not, but it was basically Destiny's

loot system in a nutshell, and it had me cracking

up and it had all my friends cracking up. A guy

got... Oh, here it is. I favorite it. He said

He goes burn 23 motes of light on an exotic engram

received in an exotic helmet for a different

class Pre -ordered Shadow of Mordor So that night

when I went into the tower and I looked at the

art I was looking at it and I was like I can

I can actually buy something I Didn't like the

helmet. I didn't like the way the exotic helmet

look for the warlocks I was like, I'm not getting

that and then I looked at that exotic Ngram and

I was like, do you roll the dice or not? I did

not. I did not. I was like, you know what? Nope.

I'm not even taking a chance because if I had

done that, I probably would have been done with

the game. Like at that point, if I if I had wasted

all that time I spent into getting those those

coins, if I had bought that thing and it turned

into some green level crap, I probably would

have been done with the game. But that said,

I screamed when I had that happen. Oh my God,

hold on. Someone's bugging me. Fuck off. To get

away from Destiny, though, what I've kind of

decided to do, and this is the view I had from

the game from the beginning, was that it would

be a game that I would come back to over the

long haul as something to play when I'm waiting

for another game to come out. And I'm pretty

much just going to go back to that, because by

the time By the time, you know, you're done with

we're done with the Grand Theft Auto or the crew

or Assassin's Creed or Far Cry 4 or any of those

games Like all that story DLC will be available

for Destiny for me to yes, of course purchase

But I'll want to because I'll be starved for

something to play But it's it's not I'm bummed

that it's not as rich as what you know Bungie

was promising and Don't know who's whose fault

that is, but I'm willing to put the blame on

Activision over bungee But yeah, I mean honestly

there's you know, I imagine Activision's corporate

offices look a lot like Mordor and There's somebody

sitting on top of this throw like Bobby Cody

could just sit there stroking this big beard

and just laughing over piles of money And it

sucks and I I don't like like I said, I'm not

I'm not liking the way that Some of these games

that are coming out now or like it's just something

to play until something else cuz there's nothing

I really stick with the one of the things I have

stuck with since it came out in March I've stuck

with Titanfall and it just got its final map

pack this past week actually and The community

for that game just dropped off Which really sucks.

I'll have trouble fighting matches now. I'm thinking

man. Are you okay? This is like the tightest

shooter out there right now For Titanfall, I

feel like that's more of a case of attaching

your horse to the wrong Cart Though I think Titanfall

2 will be very different. I hope so. I hope they

give you a more substantial single -player campaign

Oh, I'm not even talking about that. I'm just

talking about it being on the ps4 as well the

community for it being larger than just the Xbox

One. It'd be great if it was cross -platform.

That'll never happen. I know. I await that day.

I think the best thing they've possibly done

for that is at least done what they were capitalized

on their original Windows Live promise, which

would have been nice if Titanfall PC users could

have played against Xbox One Titanfall players.

I think they did that for the game Shadowrun.

Yeah, I'm not 100 % sure. Yeah, it was the only

game it was ever done in was Shadowrun. But if

there was a game that it could have capitalized

on, it would have been Titanfall. Like, I don't

know, that sucked. And that was such a waste

of a good IP, too. Which makes you really sad.

Oh, yeah, like I am a huge Shadowrun role player.

I played that game since 94. Yep. I like that

game, too. Although Shadowrun Returns is quite

good and you can mod the shit out of that. So

Steve, how are you? Pretty good. You know, I...

What have you been up to, Steve? Yes, now that

we've talked video games, you're like... 30 -40

minutes? Not much other than watching the new

shows on fall TV and playing Diablo 3 which it's

getting increasingly difficult to find people

to play on the game with because there's I think

most people are on the expansion at this point

I just I can't bring myself to spend the 30 bucks

to buy the expansion because I never liked the

Diablo expansions once they come out. I always

feel like I got screwed. So that's partially

why I'm still playing the original. But I've

also found that, I mean, I've been playing Unreal

Tournament 3 still, which funny enough, you can

still play online. Is that the one from like

the late 90s? No, it's from 2007. It's the last

Unreal Tournament game that came out. And funny

enough, the developers are on their own now,

kind of. I mean, they're still with their company.

I think Activision was one of the ones that was

doing it, or Epic Games or whatever. But they're

developing Unreal Tournament 4. And it's going

to be completely free. That'll be fun. But it's

going to be PC only, so. But I've been playing

Unreal Tournament since 99, the original one,

and then 2004, and then Unreal Tournament 3.

So it's the same thing with the Diablo games.

And then kind of piggybacking on your patching

to police and fix the game, that's pretty much

what Diablo 3 has done since day one. Well, here's

a question for the panel. What do you think about

games going more towards multi -players than

focusing on a lot of single -player content?

I actually hate it, but that's more so because

unless I'm playing on my PC, I can't play the

game with other people. And even then, if I lose

my internet connection, I'd still like to be

able to play the game. Whereas, you know, when

I play Diablo III, I'm kind of screwed if I don't

have internet because I can't play the game.

Unless I had it on my Xbox, but even then I don't

really want to for the fact that I don't want

to buy the game again Yeah, like I'm not a big

fan of this going towards multiplayer only and

this is most noticeable for me Swinging back

at Titanfall. There is no offline mode for that

I would love a mode where I could just fight

bots because it would be great to strategize

To learn new weapons and to grind if that's what

I want to do Well, that's what I do with Unreal

Tournament 3 is I play on my console because

I have the same game on both. I just bought them

years apart. But I've trained myself how to use

it with the Xbox controller now, which I plug

into the computer. And having played all the

bots on really hard difficulties, I can at least

stand a chance when I play people online. I think

a game that kinda got it right, single player

and multiplayer, is Destiny, actually, because

you don't have to play missions with people if

you don't want to. I did the entire story by

myself. I rather enjoyed that. But if I wanna

do more epic things, I need people. Like that

raid, I'll probably never do it unless I can

get a good bunch of people to do it. Yeah, but

Destiny still doesn't have an offline mode. Yeah,

that's kinda shitty, because if you can't connect

the bungee, you're kind of done there should

be something local that stores at least your

information and just populates it with like AI

or something and it sucks though because if you

want to get that cool raid you can't do it by

yourself and it's kind of forcing you to be social

and I know there are some people out there that

are just not social I mean I don't play with

a lot of people with microphones or headsets

or whatever Because usually it's some 11 teen

year old screaming in my ear Or you know, it's

just it's not worth talking about I think destiny

is different though. Like the way it's set up

I mean there you cannot talk with anybody that

isn't in your party So, I don't know I I Have

these I don't have these conversations often,

but I see them It's kind of like I don't I want

to do this raid, but I want to do it by myself.

That's not the point like that has like never

been the point and even then like something I

can relate to like Borderlands and some of their

like quote unquote raids there were like a couple

like Cromerax was one and stuff like that like

you you're not you can do those by yourself there

are glitches so that you can do them by yourself

you're not supposed to do them by yourself and

doing them by yourself with those glitches makes

them like not fun Just hiding like okay wrong

I like hiding like shooting at a cave just as

much as everybody else, you know And I've done

Cromeracks and Borderlands by myself or you hide

behind a rock that you can shoot through but

he can't shoot you through it But that's not

fun to do that for 30 to 45 minutes By yourself

I I understand that people want to be able to

do all the content which I think is that's that's

a that's a fault on the game on the game designer

which is what we've been ragging on destiny for

there isn't enough stuff to do by yourself in

that game before it gets boring um but i don't

know i i hear that argument all the time it's

like i want to be able to do this that's not

the point and that's you know go get go make

some friends i don't want to people are mean

um then make different friends Get out there

and make friends and you damn well like it. Throw

your old ones away. Yeah, like I don't know like

multiplayer games I mean one of the get like

and there are certain communities that are very

I would say helpful to making friends on MMOs

seem to be some of the best for it some of the

worst of shooters Like you always hear people

talking trash about calling you players or Halo

players the fighting game community can be a

mix Good people and bad people like there's some

people that want to teach you and say okay you

suck now Let me help you. I actually had one

of my friends with screw attack Nervous Nick

trade me and killer instinct for a night if you

realize my technique was kind of garbage And

some people will take you all will take the game

offline with you to teach you stuff, and I like

that yet a game like Where I was going with this

I kind of forgot Sorry brain fart I Don't know

just I would like to be able to do some of those

missions by myself because honestly for me It's

not the experience of playing with friends. I

want the story and Sometimes with everybody talking

in a fire team it can get really really distracting

And I know that's that just comes down to coordination

and everything is getting people to shut up at

the right time But part of the excitement is

also talking with the fire team Wardening attacks

making sure someone's in to revive someone can

provide cover file where you get someone out

or something like that But that's like I don't

have a lot of experience with MMOs I mean the

most I had experience with is the matrix online

when that was around I was around during the

beta till pretty much near the very end and I've

played Star Trek online on and off for the last

two years And that game sucks. Because you need

a fleet to take on anything major and nobody

talks to each other. But everybody dances. Everybody

dances. Or hides under the shielded bubbles.

Ah, frustrating. I don't know, it's really weird

just to see how multiplayer and single player

games have evolved. Like, one of the best memories

I have, for example, was sitting on my couch

with somebody when I was a kid sharing a two

-liter of Coke and just playing through Contra

or hell, even the original Halo doing split -screen.

There's something to be said for local co -op

or local play and as opposed to playing over

the internet where like you can trash talk someone.

Uh -oh. Really think it just I like I think it

depends on just like almost everything else like

the company you keep you know, I have not met

Through traditional online play I have not met

a new person since 2008 Because the reason for

this is because every time I go into play Call

of Duty or something like that I immediately

my friends and I we immediately start a party

and we don't interact with the other gaming community

because we don't want to listen to our 12 year

old insult our sexual preferences. And I that's

just the way it's been since 2008 just you hop

online you start a party chat Then everyone figures

out what game they want to play and then you

go and play that game now I will admit there

is a certain pleasure I get in because in in

Call of Duty. I am a tour. I'm a notorious camper

But when I have an exceptionally good game I

will admit to leaving the party so I could go

into the actual game chat and hear people call

me out I won't engage them. I will go in there

and listen to them swearing up and down like,

yeah, fuck you, or F you, Booth Ninja, yo, camp

you, effing camper, blah, blah, blah. And I will

just sit there and listen to it like, yep, I'm

getting exactly what I want out of this. And

then I'll just go back in my party and hang out.

And every once in a while, I'll get the voice

message that they'll send you on Xbox Live or

something like that calling you out. And I'm

like, oh, OK, thanks, you just. That's charming,

that's true. But yeah, everyone I've met, you

know, I haven't met anyone new since then because

of that, you know, that very thing. I have a

very close -knit group of friends that we move

from one game to the next, so there's never an

issue with finding people to do stuff with. Destiny

was actually the first game where we actually

had problems with their fire teams being capped

at three. Instead of the traditional four. It

was kind of like uh -oh. How are we gonna do

this? Okay, so well since we're all in a party

chat, we'll just you know, there's four of us

We'll just break off into groups of two You know

and then two more people will get on it's like,

okay now we have three fire teams But there's

no way we can play on the same server together

Which is fine we made it work it's it's it's

been great but it's for me Don't get me wrong.

I also growing up. I like the couch co -op, but

you know what growing up my friends live just

down the street from me It was a lot easier to

get them to come over Now, I mean most of the

guys that I do off the cuff with one of them

lives in New York and two of them live in Grand

Rapids Which is like an hour and a half two hours

away from me. So it's kind of like well How are

we gonna be able to play games together? So really?

Online gaming to me like the what I do with online

gaming is kind of just like using it as like

an interactive chat room if you will I We we

get on there and we hang out with each other

we go and do some random stuff But we're not

really talking about the game. I mean sure if

stuff here starts getting especially hairy We'll

start calling stuff out and like helping each

other out But usually it's like usually like

you're making a phone call or some group chat

or something like that It's like oh, hey, what

do you been up to? Oh, yeah, you know, I've been

doing this bang bang shooting stuff Which is

why one of the reasons I've been championing

so long for Activision to put a paintball mode

in Call of Duty Because I really like playing

the Call of Duty multiplayer stuff, but I Just

as casually as I play it. I wish there was a

multiplayer mode or not a multiplayer mode a

paintball mode So like kind of like from Goldknife

where instead of just shooting a bullet at somebody

I see like a little spray of blood. I'd like

to see a little splash of color but Could be

a lot of fun actually I just think it'd be interesting

because I don't play it like competitively I

just play it to have fun with my friends So if

I could it's kind of like it's kind of like the

modifiers you can turn on in Halo or if you get

a headshot Confetti shoots out their head Like

why is that stuff not in Call of Duty? That's

not actually in destiny like the birthday grunts

thing birthday thralls would be wonderful But

that's how I kind of If you're listening That's

that's how I kind of view multiplayer It's just

another extension for me to hang out with friends

that you know, don't live down the street for

me Do I prefer the couch co -op thing? I actually

like it I have I have a friend that comes from

out of town every once in a while and we hang

out on the couch for the evening just passing

the controller back and forth playing games and

that's just as much fun to me as You know hanging

out with them online exactly Like for me, I love

playing fighting games when my friend Vito and

come over we both get our fight sticks out And

it's such a different experience when you could

hear the click of his stick going in the middle.

You can hear him starting to roll out a Shah

Rukin or charging like a bow -rog move or something

for bison. I love that. There's something about

it. And also feeling the table shake ever so

slightly as you're pressing your buttons, getting

out your combos and stuff like that. For me,

I love local because it's a more tactile experience.

You're not going to call someone a bunch of big

names and they're sitting right beside you unless

you're some tough guy. Some of the stuff I say

to my friends, I would never say online. Oh,

we do. We say all of it. There is no differentiation

between what my friends and I will say to each

other in person and what we'll say to each other

online. I guess that's true of me too. I don't

really hold back, but I wouldn't say to a stranger.

And you see what happens because people will

get swatted if you know what that is. Yeah, yep,

I've recently heard that. Steve, have you heard

of swatting? Yes and no. Okay, so swatting is

let's say person A kicks the crap out of person

B in Call of Duty. Person B takes it really personally.

Person B decides to call the cops on you saying

you're holding a family hostage and people are

dead. SWAT team then kicks in your door. This

is swatting inside of a nutshell. I can't imagine

people taking it that far. I mean, it's a video

game. What the hell's wrong with you? That's

why I prefer couch co -op. That's the same reason

people think video games cause violence. Yeah.

You gotta blame something, I guess. Anyways.

Anyways. One thing I would love to bring up you

guys has have you guys seen the first two episodes

of Gotham now? I watched episode one yesterday

and episode two Well just before we started recording

this but I'm saving my overall thoughts for remote

control You think it's getting better is basically

what I want to get from you guys Is there potential?

It's hard to say. I'll say this. The entire time

I was watching the second episode, I was thinking

of the squandered potential of not having this

be set in the Dark Knight universe. I mean the

films within the Dark Knight trilogy. Just that.

that type of squandered potential but I'm I'm

gonna keep watching it but I don't want to say

too much more than that without it being on remote

control because I don't want to repeat myself

I'm enjoying it I'm not hating on it yeah I like

it but I want to love it it's not arrow yeah

I'm kind of torn I really don't want to see 10

years of Bruce Wayne growing into a punk -ass

kid that becomes Batman. You don't want to live

to see Batman's balls drop, basically. Basically.

To me, that's... Plus you have Nigma. He's already

older. I mean, you have... I don't know. There's

too many different things floating around of

people that should be the same age or around

the same age that aren't. I for me it's that

that's where I that's where I was kind of getting

at to see was the whole like I don't want to

you know Ten years of waiting for him to become

or you know with it with the chance of being

able to see Batman and that's why I was kind

of like If they had said it in the world of Nolan's

Dark Knight trilogy At least you would have got

to see Batman You know what I'm saying Because

there would be like an unending like I feel like

that could have been we could be looking at like

Groundwork for what is basically the last half

of the first job of Batman begins. I I don't

know I have other I Have a really funny thing

to say about the about the show, but I really

want to say it for remote control so So Steve

what else you got on your little cheat sheet

there that we should probably hit Well, I found

it interesting that Warner Bros. wouldn't give

Ben Affleck a bat suit. Yeah, they won the Church

of $100 ,000 for it. I'm not that surprised.

I mean, I understand they want to keep it hush

-hush right now, but I'm surprised that, you

know, when the film comes out, they won't let

him have one. I imagine they'll probably change

their mind. Because, I mean, if you look at Marvel,

they... I mean, a lot of them... Yeah, I mean

not Downey jr. Or any of them guys because I

mean their suits are epic it which I can kind

of say Batman's would be too, but You have instances

where some of the actors tend to steal their

costumes offset stealing given yeah point given

Star Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy and the

keyword there is steel true And granted Star

Lords was just a jacket. So who really cares

but Plus he goes to he goes to hospitals for

kids for that, but you have to think that if

Rob I mean, yes, obviously Robert Downey jr.

Walks on water right now for Marvel But you have

to think that there wouldn't be a little bit

of hot water there if he decided to walk away

with an Iron Man suit especially especially if

it was the Iron Man suit for like Avengers 2

you know Because We all know that they're going

to change it again. Oh yeah, they changed every

film. So irritating. For fun and profit. Yeah,

so they can sell another toy that nobody wants.

I hated the Mark 42. Was that the remote controlled

one? Yeah, I don't like the way it looks. I think

to me the Mark 7 from Avengers was my favorite.

Is that the triangle one or the round circle?

Triangle, I think. Oh, because I liked the one

that had the triangle. That was my favorite one.

And then the one at the end of Avengers went

back to a circle, which really irritated me.

Yeah. And I didn't care for the... Was the Mark

42 the gold one? Yeah. I hated that. I hated

that too, the inverted colors. Yep. I wish we'd

seen more of War Machine because I don't like

the way Iron Patriot looks. And Iron Patriot

is really Norman Osborn. I think they'll switch

it back in the next film that he shows up No,

I hope they leave him as a giant walking American

flag It would just be really bad if a foreigner

burned him Although it wouldn't surprise me if

Warner Brothers does eventually bend on it and

they do give it to him as if that movie proves

to be a ridiculous success But it's got the I

Think it will be cool. I Don't know if it's gonna

be there Avengers. Oh, it's I Don't want to drive.

I Wanted to be better But yes, I want it to be

better than Avengers I don't know what to think

yet, but I mean, there's so many damn rumors

floating around about it, I don't really want

to comment about it, but everything I've seen

so far, like the Batmobile, the Batsuit, I'm

not hating on it. I love what I'm seeing so far.

Yeah, there hasn't been a thing announced for

this movie that makes me hate it other than the

title. Yeah, the title, I think, it's terrible.

It sounds more like something for the DC animated

universe. like batman superman movie tada i don't

know i i don't know if you heard dot i i i said

on here before i think the way that dc should

handle their stuff is just one off mega movies

not necessarily connected by continuity um that

could be really cool actually which which it

sounds like what they're which it sounds like

that's what they're doing like you know you got

the Batman versus Superman. The next one is called

Justice League. Like they could do like Doom,

you know. So they could almost do like what they're

doing with the DC animated universe. Yeah, exactly.

Just just do like why? No continuity. They just

it's just there. Yeah. Or there would be a loose

continuity because it'd be the same characters.

I'm just saying, like, I don't think I don't

think they need to follow the same blueprint

as Marvel, where it's like you're telling one

continuous story. It's just You can still do

your Batman your singular Batman movie your singular

flash movie or whatever I just think that they're

big movies. I don't think that they need to be

So like they can have a small hook in it, but

not really it could stand alone if it needs to

I think I think the best thing to do it I think

the best way to do it be like, you know You get

your three Batman movies and you get your three

Superman movies But you know Ben Affleck is gonna

still play Batman and Justice League, but it's

not And that's the only link that it is connected

to his batman movies that it's still been at

like playing batman like I don't think you need

to Have like batman 2 tail end into like justice

league. You know what i'm saying? Yeah, um Because

that's essentially what happens all these heroes

are doing their own thing Somewhere at some time

and all of a sudden it's like oh here's a major

event. Whoops. We're all together now. Okay,

let's go. Ha ha ha It's not it's not everyone

tracking down the same thing and they're like,

oh you're on this too. Oh Maybe we should have

called each other before running into each other

here What are your what are your stances on films

that are splitting in two for the final film

of something such as Rumors well now there's

rumors that Avengers 3 is gonna split in two

If the story demands it, I'd rather have two

good movies as opposed to one really long one.

But I'd like the option for a supercut. See,

for me, I think the only opposing argument I've

heard to this split would be that contracts for

Captain America and Iron Man are running out.

to renegotiate for a two -part Avengers 3 would

cost them a lot of money Which granted the movie

will probably make a lot of money and it's not

like they don't have the money for such contract

negotiations The thing is though would you want

to see you know Avengers 3 part 1 with Captain

America and Iron Man and then have them exit

in that and not be in Avengers 3 part 2 There's

just stuff like that to consider I I don't really

have a problem with it. I'm tired of the part

twos like Like calling it a part two. Yeah, like

I don't know like and and obviously they're doing

a way is it? Because it's not Avengers 2 age

of Ultron is it it's just Avengers age of Ultron

I think it's Avengers age of Ultron Think the

numerical thing was an 80s thing. I think that

they could not have to do it I think the only

because today the only numerical Marvel movie

is Iron Man Yeah, they've they've intentionally

removed the numbering from them so that the sequel

thing doesn't get overdone in their franchises

Which is smart. So it's you know, I don't think

it'll be Avengers 3 part 1 and part 2 I think

you'll just have Avengers like Don't know maybe

they could do it like the Avengers infinity gauntlet

part one and the infinity gauntlet part two But

I Don't know. I'm okay with it I can't you know,

it's kind of like you see that come you could

have seen it coming because everyone's doing

it. I Don't think Harry Potter was the first

one to do it were they? I think they were because

then I like did it and now Hunger Games is doing

it. Yep See for hunger games it kind of makes

sense because there is a lot to set up Harry

Potter I think it was necessary for Twilight

no fucking way Twilight was definitely a money

grab. Well the thing with Twilight I mean I've

seen all of them because I hate my life Nothing

happens in part one and Then they randomly turn

into the X -Men in number two Yeah, those are

memories Yeah And and then of course in other

news, there's the the Disney closing couple of

their Various rides Like their backlot tour which

I've only just recently seen like last year because

it's the only time I've been to that park but

which it was kind of interesting but I'm sorry.

I'm just not interested in Disney stuff. Yeah

Can we talk about Microsoft's inability to count?

Yeah, I think that's actually hilarious. I didn't

have that on here, but because it kind of came

out after the fact and I was in class Windows

10 First it first they go like XP which was a

complete jump from the the year thing You know

they had 3 .1 3 .1 1 and then they went 9598

and then all these other numerical and and you

know Millennium and XP and Vista and then they

go seven and then eight and I guess eight point

one would technically be nine No, but it's eight

point one. I know it's eight point one, which

is like the three point one back in the day And

then I don't understand where nine's being skipped

which means ten should be garbage Now, are there

really only nine Windows operating systems, or

is this actually the tenth one? There's more

than that. Well, I mean, let's be honest, ME

doesn't really count. Well, Millennium is like

a bastardized version of XP that was crossed

with 98. I thought that was 2000. Same difference

it was kind of a bridge. It was it was a throwaway

bridge between 98 and XP for home users I think

it was the first time they played around the

NTFS for home home use And then and then of course,

you know, there's you know, Vista that's the

shit version of seven and eight Which is probably

the shit version of what's coming out Because

I know they bring back the start menu and virtual

desktops and basically make it like I think maybe

they're trying to go for that os 10 vibe I I

someone said they should have just I first of

all when I I'll say this when I first heard it

was being called 10 I thought they should have

just shot right for 11 thinking of um What's

that movie spinal tap? I was thinking they should

have you talking about Steve No, there's a scene

in spinal tap where they're talking about was

it speakers or amps? amps amps, so they're talking

about a guitar amp and the knob on the amp goes

to 11 and He's talking about how most most amps

go to 10 He's like bars goes to 11 and the guy

that's doing the interview isn't really getting

it And he's like, he's like, well, why wouldn't

you why wouldn't 11 just be 10 and the guys like

because ours goes to 11 And I was that that's

the first thing I thought of when they analysis

I'm like, well, why not just make it 11 But then

someone else jumped on it later my Twitter feed

saying they you know They should have just called

it Windows 11 because then at least they'd be

one better than Mac OS 10 There's people trying

to figure out where the hell the 10 came in I

think they should just name it after animals

like Mac does and use fictional animals. Like

a liger. The unicorn. Windows unicorn. This is

Microsoft. I don't know. Dragon OS or something.

Call it call it unicorn. Yeah, it's mystical

and never been seen. That's what happened. And

then they can tie in my little pony to it and

sell it to kids. It'll be great. Like seriously,

what is... I know that this new CEO wants to

make everything universal though. That's fine.

Microsoft's had a problem for the last year.

More than that. Like the last 18 months they've

had a marketing problem. Someone over there is

smoking something when it comes time to name

a product. Don't know what's wrong with them.

You know there's some guy in a back room going.

You know what would really fuck with the people

Let's call it ten instead of nine Well, it's

like it's kind of like the comedian Brian Regan

You guys familiar with him mm -hmm and his spiel

about serving sizes Yeah, he's like hey. Hey

come here. Look at this this carton of ice cream

Says a serving size a spoon his one spoon. I

set it out like that. I'm just gonna leave it

I don't know what's wrong with them. They're

on something. It just harkens back to their whole

space point plan for currency. I don't know.

They need to learn how to count. Well, at least

it's better than having a Tetris movie. Why does

it look like they just slap Windows 8 on everything?

Where Windows 10 like this one this this one

picture that everyone shows I keep seeing across

my Twitter feed Which is like Windows 10 and

says one product family one product or one platform

one store And it looks like they just slapped

Windows 8 on everything Probably because they

didn't have an official picture of 10 This looks

like an official slide Maybe it is Why would

I call it Windows Because it would confuse people

they would be like I have windows what version

How about Doze? They should just call it Windows

DOS Microsoft Doze Just call it DOS that would

really fuck with people But I know that they're

bringing the start menu back which is kind of

nice for people that like to get to all their

applications And they they have their kind of

new goofy Metro thing built into the start menu,

which whatever I'll take it but I Don't know

I don't know how it's gonna go. I'm kind of curious.

I'm more so excited about the virtual desktop

app or ability I've had that I am of the actual

operating system. I've had that ability. I don't

know what the point of a virtual desktop is emulation

I don't know I can have more than one desktop

set up with certain crap like one could be my

my my podcast screen and one could be my see

you gaming you think that now here's the thing

you think that until you get it all set up that

way and then one day like you know the next day

you're you know on your general productivity

one where you're just kind of playing your games

or whatever and then it's time to do a podcast

so you just open up your podcast app in that

one like It's one of those things where it's

like you I think it's for me Like that kind of

stuff works. We have like a multiple screen setup,

but like when you have two screens, but I mean

more than that like I just feel like when you

Like this is it's it's great in theory because

you get it all set up as like on this on this

desktop I'm only gonna do my podcast stuff and

over here It's only gonna be stuff to do with

like working on the website and this one is gonna

be what I'm just looking at Facebook Then and

then one day you're just you're looking at Facebook

that it's time to record a podcast and instead

of you know Taking the time to alt tab 2 or whatever

it is to go over to the other desktop You're

just gonna open up Skype in your Facebook desktop,

and you're never gonna go anywhere ever again

like That's true. I mean that's that's what's

always happened to me like I've tried to organize

like my workflow that way like this everything

here is just gonna be this but it's like You

just start doing whatever you want to do from

whatever desktop you're on. Makes sense. I think

the last thing I'll touch on before we close

it out because we did have some listener comments,

but I'm kind of curious. And Don and I talked

about it on Future Imperfect a little bit. uh

as we talked in bash the abrams verse um more

or less uh the the the william shatner speculation

i haven't even read a single article about it

i've seen the headlines but i'm not reading it

because every time i read the headline is yes

let's make it suck even more like i future spock

Is if I could point at one thing that Ruin has

ruined the last two movies for me. It's future

Spock Well, you got to give him at least the

first one. He was okay in that No, I don't because

he was in there which means they could put him

in the second one So they should have had him

been on Vulcan How about we just have a story

that doesn't involve future Spock That's all

right. They're trying to bring him and shatter

into the next one which there's all kinds of

speculation on how that's gonna happen Why why

couldn't you just have? that giant Romulan ship

that no one's ever seen before that Like why

couldn't have just been lost in a black hole

that made them travel back in time to now why

did it? Whatever Like that is the one that is

I that's the one like domino like the ripple

in the water the pebble that causes the ripples

of Crap in the Abrams movies like I like them

Don't get me wrong and I have issues with the

second one that we've talked about extensively

on this show But that pebble the one that started

those ripples is future Spock like And I don't

even want to see William Shatner like One of

those guys looks old the other one looks really

old Well, that's cuz he has to wear big boy pants,

and I don't even think he fits like in the Abrams

continuity I Don't even know how they bring him

in he's dead We talked about it anyways if people

want to hear more about that they can listen

to future perfect later this week It's it's in

there So Anything you guys want to bring up or...

Future Spock is annoying. What? I just wanted

to reiterate that Future Spock is annoying. Future

Spock is annoying. He should not be a get out

of jail free card. Amen. I just want Abram's

first Borg. Preach it. He can't be even Borg.

He merged with Vejur. There will be Borg! Or

the Tholians, man. But if you want to know more,

me and Steve talked about this for like an hour.

Just have the whore to eat him. I forgot about

that. Just go over him. Just make Harry Mudd

the bad guy. With his android women. It'd be

a slave planet. It'd be horrible. I think I'm

going to close this out. I have a feeling this

could go down a rat hole real quick. Isn't there

listener feedback? No, FutureSpock took it away.

Fuck that guy. He went back in time. You raced

it. Yeah, most of the comments, because I kind

of just threw up random questions last week.

It was about YouTube, whether people thought

it was still relevant. FutureSpock said your

responses were bad, therefore they're bad. You've

transwarped them. I think we should try to find

all the clips of Future Spock talking, and he

should just be a regular excitement on this show.

Future Spock says... Whenever we don't want to

answer something, we just have him talk. Just

play a random clip. It'll be kind of like how

Conan O 'Brien had the Walker Texas Ranger thing.

Will has Future Spock. I think it'd be marvelous.

I'm so gonna do that. I'm gonna download those

and rip those clips So yeah, and then the other

the other comments were about the cosplayers

taking over conventions, which we kind of talked

about You know what one cosplay that has not

yet been done? What? Future Spock. I don't need

a punchline to this show, I guarantee you that

from now on. Oh, well, Future Spock did it. As

Future Spock would say... A random clip here.

You're bad. What was the clip? As my normal salute

would be, oddly self -serving. Oh, that's horrible.

FutureSpot... Oh, you can't do an underscore?

No, you can't. It won't let me. Wait. Oh, come

on. It's doing this weird thing where it keeps

highlighting the whole thing and deleting it.

You know whose fault this is. FutureSpot. That's

right. Okay. Future Spock is not taken, but there's

it's just all one word It's like the email future

Spock at geek cast radio calm password is too

obvious, okay, so Just do the one that I put

in the the Skype window I was gonna suggest everything

is future Spock's fault super long and good luck

guessing it But now that I've said it we can't

use that Should have had his username. Since

my typical greeting is oddly self -serving. Hey

Blair, do you want to check this? Sorry. FutureSpock,

good luck. Okay, let's go. FutureSpock. Uh, no.

Uncheck that. Continue. I'm sorry if this is

boring to people. Hey, don't worry. You are witnessing

the birth of what will surely be an internet

legend. We're gonna go by a future Spock calm.

Oh my god Just goofy pictures there just actually

nothing just Photoshop memes of future Spock
