About this Episode

Steve and Birdman talk about their week: a Toronto Xbox media showcase featuring Halo 5, Dark Souls 3, and other upcoming games; personal gaming experiences with Call of Duty and Battlefield 4; collectible Hot Wheels and action figures including new DC Animated Series Batman and Robin; the new Star Wars poster by Drew Struzan; Star Wars Rebels and Disney's geek-friendly programming; D23 highlights including Marvel's Civil War footage and A Goofy Movie's 20th anniversary celebration; Star Trek's future on TV; and a fun hypothetical: building a fictional presidential cabinet with famous geeks and movie characters.

You're tuned in to Steve Megatron on Altered

Geek Unlimited. Hello and welcome to Altered

Geek Unleashed. Yes, I changed the name back.

After a hundred plus episodes. My name is Steve

Megatron Phillips and joining me this week is...

Yes, if you did it the right tone you could be

like the Chevy Chase I'm Chevy Chase and you

are not Well yesterday was exciting for me I

went to the Xbox media showcase up here in Toronto

Got to see a lot of really cool new games that

are coming out. I saw a cup head on the Xbox

one, which is looking phenomenal I actually got

some hands on with that I saw Rise of the Tomb

Raider, which is also looking friggin' badass.

I saw Halo 5 Guardians. I saw Dark Souls 3, Just

Cause 3. The Division, Rainbow Six Siege. What

else did I see? I'm trying to think, what the

hell? Oh, I saw Quantum Break! I finally got

to see gameplay out of that and learned a little

bit more about it, though it's still confusing

as fuck. What else did I see? I'm thinking through

all the appointments that I had yesterday. But

it was pretty legit on what I saw. So that was

pretty fantastic to see all that stuff up close

and personal. I'm trying to think what else.

Working on my back -to -school gift guides right

now because finally the heat is broken here So

I can start resuming podcasting because my studio

was like a little oven trying to record there

So I took the week off I've got this thing Steve

called a soda stream And it is one of the weirdest

and coolest things I've ever forgotten. It's

basically like having a soda pop fountain in

your house and Do you have barks root beer in

the States? Yes Okay, I can make barks root beer

at home. And it is literally like 99 .98 % accurate

to it. Like, yes, like, literally, I could take

that Pepsi challenge bullshit. And if I if I

was having an off day, I could tell my wife made

me a cola before she left. And it's pretty much

95 % coke. Nice, ridiculous. So I'm definitely

putting this in my back to school guy like if

man if you want to be cool and have something

really awesome for your dorm room this is pretty

freaking sick um plus it also beats having to

lug around giant tube leaders uh when it's like

the winter time and shit i'd much rather spend

seven bucks on a flavor shot and then spend like

falling on my face carrying it pop during the

winter time so yeah pretty good um what else

to tell you um what else has been going on this

week Call of Duty Black Ops 3 beta on PS4, so

legit, but I've discovered I don't like playing

Call of Duty on the PlayStation because I don't

like the controller. Really? The PlayStation,

the PlayStation controllers, I like them for

action games like Tomb Raider and all that shit,

but I don't like first person shooter on them.

I think that's where the Xbox kind of thinks

sells. I think so, too. It just never feels right.

Whenever you see competitive COD being played,

either at the Call of Duty Championships or an

event like, say, UMG DALs or whatever, they're

all using Xbox. Although this year, with PlayStation

4 getting the Black Ops exclusives, I wonder

how that's going to turn out, whether we'll see

more PlayStation. I don't know. It feels too

small to me. I'm actually using... these things

called control freaks they extend the size of

your like analog sticks it makes it a little

better so i've got a little bit more grip but

it's a little awkward as all shit but i do like

the triggers on the playstation controller better

than the xbox triggers but i could fix that with

like a scuf controller if i really wanted to

i just don't know if i feel like dropping 200

bucks but i like first person shooter so maybe

i will um Anyway, that's what's been going on

with me this past week Well myself um I've had

quite a bit actually um We're getting our bathroom

renovated right now That's one thing Also in

addition to that we have been We well for instance

for my schooling we're I'm done with the semester,

but a new one starts in about two weeks and They

had a power outage so the director couldn't finish

editing the film on time So what what happened

is the teacher gave us till technically Sunday,

but they should have it done tomorrow And then

they're gonna go through a scoring process this

fall and then it's gonna be in the film fest

since December so I got to come up to the school

tomorrow and make copies of everything to my

flash drive so that I have it Should this guy

no longer? be able to come back to help edit

later. I don't foresee that, but I like having

backups of the files regardless. It actually

turned out a lot better than I thought it was

going to. Once the sound got added, the music

got added, some of the effects and the voiceover

and some of the other stuff, it's looking pretty

sharp. And then I'm doing the superhero class

thing again which is through EDX and the Smithsonian

and I'm a alumni teachers assistant community

assistant kind of thing so I'm helping people

that are having issues or trying to figure stuff

out and then I'm world -building stuff that I

started in the first class so that's that's kind

of neat And then pretty much other than that.

I mean, I've been playing some games I've been

playing Battlefield 4 with my family Because

a lot of them play that on the PC I'm ungodly

terrible Well, they call my brother my youngest

brother the arrow because he runs around with

a bow and arrow and just blows people away, which

is hilarious. My dad plays, my brothers play,

and then I play in it. I'm pretty good with machine

gun, I'm pretty good with... I use these RPGs

that are meant for tanks to send into big crowded

hallways so I can blow away a large amount of

guys because I'm an asshole. And I'm pretty decent

with the sniper rifle too, so I like sitting

there picking people off any chance I get. I'm

getting pretty well rounded in it, but... It

depends. If I think I can get them without having

to zoom in and everything and kind of hold it,

I, you know, I can clip them, but it depends.

I'm more... What's that? Have no idea. Okay,

when you quick scope or black scope literally

you you you're targeting is dead center as Soon

as you raise the scope and when it goes black

that's the simulate you raising the scope to

your eye So you can see just the edge of the

plastic Or whatever black scoping. Yeah, you

have something in your sights You quickly raise

the rifle and bam because you're because your

target radicals dead center. So really so real

people that are really really goddamn good can

black scope you across the map like that and

quick scope obviously means you are up for less

than a sec less than like a frame or two of having

your like scope up otherwise it's old man's diving

yeah i'm not that good yeah i can't don't worry

i can't do it either though i'm pretty good with

assault rifles Well, yeah, I mean that's that's

pretty much my fallback because at least then

I can gun a bunch of guys down and usually what

I do is I Surround myself by my teammates and

if there's like a ramp or something and people

are coming up on it I kind of I play dead I lay

on the ground So they think I've just been shot

and killed if I'm around my other teammates Like

I said, I'm an asshole. So I sit there and I

wait, and while they're pegging at my teammates,

I'm gunning them down from the ground, shooting

them in the balls. And then when there's forest

around and I'm a sniper, I generally hide somewhere

in the greenery, waiting for order. Well, I do

that, and I get as close to the base as I can

so I can start pegging guys off. And it kind

of helps too because And I don't generally stay

there I stay there long enough to Wait for my

team to respond because respond around me because

usually what happens is they all die and then

I'm the spawn Responder and so they all spawn

around me and then I get up and go after whoever

it is but I think it's hilarious to drive vehicles

too, because I like to go like a bed out of hell

and then crash into stuff and then jump off.

That's one thing Battlefield 4 definitely got

right. That's one thing that was kind of missing

out of Hardline is all the insane vehicles you

could get. I've only played maybe two or three

hours of multiplayer for Hardline, and it's nowhere

near as chaotic as Battlefield 4 with helicopters

and fucking tanks and shit. But I prefer COD's

more land -based combat. Although, one of my

favorite things to do is to run around with a

pistol and just pistol and flashbangs and annoy

the shit out of people. And 9x10, I usually have

the most kills on the map because they're all

stunned by flashbangs or stun grenades. I just

walk up and pick them off. And there's always

some asshole on mic going, why are you using

flashbangs? Yeah, there's there's always somebody

in there and doing that I agree. They're they're

throwing that out I just do it to annoy people

straight up I'm not gonna lie. It's hilarious

because People are pissing a moaner about it

and I'm I'm not one that likes it I'll admit

that but that's when I usually have make sure

I have my my rocket launcher going I shoot into

the crowd, it helps. I'm doing crowd control.

Although, I have another annoying as fuck tactic

that I do. I get an assault rifle with a grenade

launcher, just so I have a long -range option.

I take a grenade launcher, all the explosive

grenades that I can carry, there's a perk called

danger close and a perk called flak jacket, which

means I can take more damage from explosives,

and my explosives do more damage. So I usually

play objective game modes. There's one I really

like called hard point. It's basically king of

the hill, right? You hold the hard point as long

as you possibly can. People come in, they can

fuck it up or take it from you. So I like that

fire into the crowd strategy too, because I just

bombard the hard point from like a distance and

it works. I'm sorry. I'm like, people may call

me a noob for that and annoying, but Saturation

bombing is a legit strategy in war. They're not

going to call you out and be, you know, like,

a fucking camper. Like, well, if it's good enough

for the US Army, it's good enough for me. Yep,

because they sure as hell would do it. Oh, yeah.

And then my wife in the background is telling

me to do something else. I do this one thing

called bang bang punch. There's one game mode

called gun game, where every time you kill someone

with a gun, you get a successively better gun

or a worse gun. Basically, the object is to get

24 kills to get the last kill with the crossbow.

But if you get punched, you get sent back to

the previous gun. I run around in the most obnoxious

outfit that I can find in my armory. I'll put

on pink pants, a clown hat, clown shoes, and

a psychedelic t -shirt. And I will run around

and just punch people. And people just curse

at me, and curse at me, and I get messages. It's

so great. And I get it from this online guy called

CostDev. He's the manager for Team Caliber, which

is this really good esports team. They always

consistently place top 10, usually top 8, for

most of the big kind of COD tournaments. And

he has a video series where he just trolls people.

And I'm not going to lie, I'm a bit of a fanboy

for it because I think it's hilarious. But now

that we've bored the shit out of people with

first person shooter talk, don't do what we do

or you will be annoying. Yes. So one thing I

did do today, because like I said, they're doing

the renovation upstairs. We luckily have a downstairs

bathroom. So I was going through my office and

I've had various things from year to year that

end up displayed on my wall or on my shelf that

Every time I move certain things get put away

and certain things end up out that weren't out

or you know vice versa so Being I have this big

ass empty wall in front of my desk and in a window

and I have a Star Trek into darkness poster on

the wall and I have the Batman Returns film poster

on my wall as well. I have every Batman Hot Wheel

car, the Mystery Machine, the Enterprise, the

Back to the Future car, the A -Team vehicle,

and the Ecto -1. All of those Hot Wheel cars

pegged to my wall. Yeah, do you even have the

old kind of vintage ones from the 60s? The Hot

Wheel ones? Yes, they're the ones that they made

within the last few years of Hot Wheels, not

the bigger in scale. It's the actual Hot Wheel

size car. But yeah, I got one that's the original.

And then I've got the animated series Batmobile,

which was only made in a bigger size. Up on my

wall. I got the Joe Colton Bruce Willis John

McClain figure Three different cover commanders

from the 80 series. I have a bunch of Batman's

and transformers and Stuff and then I've got

a bunch of posters that I need to get frames

for to put up but This past weekend my friend

Sean came over and we're going to my closet because

we're trying to clean Our house up and I might

be having a huge nerdy garage sale soon. So any

nerds where I live near the Toronto area I found

an original Indiana Jones movie poster Really?

Yeah, and it was like an original theatrical

like and this was before the PG -13 rating So

I like it was really cool. It even has the sticker

on it where the theater would put their own kind

of reading on it I sold that online to a friend

of mine for like 70 bucks, which is pretty kick

-ass. I found all these original weird movie

posters I had. I found a Titan AE, which is pretty

cool. I found Osmosis Jones randomly. A couple

of the original Pokemon movies, I got their posters.

I got the Digimon one. But you were mentioning

Batman. And this past week I got a package from

a fan of mine. I occasionally get fan mail and

a fan of mine sent me Batman and Robin from the

new animated series DC director based on the

Batman series. You're making me cry. My god those

figures are gorgeous. I have the new Batman Adventures

Batman figure when that came out. My brother

got it for me for my birthday last year. It's

not the original animated series of the newer

figures. I have to get that yet to complete my

little wall collection. It's it's spectacular

the amount of detail that's in it because I have

the shorter figure and that doesn't come with

nearly as much stuff or interchangeable pieces

I thought that was a really nice touch They even

have a hand that has the grappling hook just

built into it, which is kind of nice The Robin

figure that's the nicest Robin figure I've ever

owned And I'm so impressed that I'm actually

kind of thinking, you know, I have a chunk of

the line now Anyway, I could just finish it Oh,

I'm kind of thinking about going after the Joker

and Mr. Freeze at some point. See, I want to

collect all those, but the only thing that holds

me back is because it's like 20 bucks a pop.

Well, that's not terrible. It's not terrible,

but when you don't have the money, it sucks.

When I was collecting Gundam figures, each of

those was 70 bucks. Ouch. And they were about

as, they were about four to five inches tall.

But the articulation on them was equal to Revoltec

which you're familiar with like those figures

Which is pretty nuts I've got most of the Gundam

wing figures. There's one I would get but it's

a repaint and a slight resculpt and Homie don't

play that it's the Tall Geese 2 from the end

of the series that Trey's uses as his personal

Gundam Yeah, they want 200 bucks for that. And

for a time a couple years ago, I was actually

flush because I come I came into some money and

I was thinking, you know what, man, I got a shit

ton of money and I'm even like, fuck that. Although

there are evil tech figures, which are typically

about 50 bucks a figure depending. They have.

Ninja Turtles based on the next series. They've

got interchangeable heads which have like different

expressions on them weapons and just different

hands and shit They look so fucking cool. I just

don't know if I could justify over $200 for four

figures that are not a hot toys or something

like that because at that price I could get one

really good hot toys figure. Oh, yeah Like hell

I'm even looking at my four Hot toys now now

thankfully I didn't pay for this one because

I won it through a contest through sideshow collectibles

But I'm even thinking Jesus Christ people pay

three four hundred dollars for these things and

even more because like there's one for Okay,

if I ever won the lottery, I would so get this.

It's an eight hundred dollar hot toys figure

But it's the hulk buster from age of ultron.

It has a little iron man inside of it that you

can take out It lights up, it moves, it's like,

if God came down and gave you a Hulkbuster figure,

this is the one you'd want. Like it is, it's

like having a mini Robert Downey Jr. in your

house. That's funny. It's so amazing. And like

everything that comes out of Hot Toys is phenomenal.

Like the line of theirs I really want to collect

would be their like aliens lines. I think came

out four or five years ago. I just want to have

a tiny Bill Paxton in my house, or maybe Michael

Bean as like Hicks. Because all the detail they

put even into their weapons, I think there's

even, it's not functional obviously because I

can't do anything that small, but there's even

like, it looks like the LED counter from the

side of the pulse rifles there. I think even

the ammo clips come out of the weapons too. Elves

must make these things because their hands have

to be so tiny and so precise So jumping into

some of the fun stuff this week Maybe we should

talk the Star Wars poster I think it looks great

Drew Struzan for, I think it was like a birthday

or something. And you never realize how many

of those classic movie posters that guy has done.

And every time he does a Star Wars, I mean, even

if the movie sucks, like Phantom Menace, the

poster still looks amazeballs. This one's awesome.

Like, damn, I'm gonna be bugging my local theater

to see if I can scoot this one. yeah I think

I'm gonna go after it too I'm not not lying I'm

gonna try and get one but I think it's also I

think it's also the fact that you have new character

new character Sith Lord old -ass Han Solo Mean

he looks the same. He's just got different colored

hair Yeah, but still it is pretty cool I'm looking

forward to seeing what some of the alternate

posters will be for some of the other kind of

countries too Like I am kind of looking forward

to force Friday when that happens actually I

want to get a date for that for when the new

poison I used to be in the Star Wars collecting

And I might be again, I might just collect the

black series of figures Those are superior. Oh

god. Yeah, like I like the three and three -quarter

inch figures But at the same time I like articulation.

I like pose ability Like my perfect scale for

a figure is the Marvel Legends size Okay because

it's like the six inch figure they look great

the star wars and that scale fucking boner um

actually a lot of cool stuff came out of d23

last week like man there's gonna be star wars

fucking disney world i know i've not taken my

honeymoon yet guess where i'm going star wars

land oh my god it's gonna be I guess it's going

to be based around the new trilogy. Which is

going to be cool because they will have nods

to the old stuff, too. But at the same time,

yeah, they have to push the new stuff. And ultimately,

I think they're going to be in it for the long

haul. Although, one thing to consider is Star

Wars costuming is not cheap. They're going to

have to make every person who goes there or works

at disney world as one of the costume characters

all that stormtrooper armor is going to have

to be custom made because with stormtrooper armor

there is no one size fits all vacuum form stuff

it has to be custom fitted to your body at least

as i understand it but it's disney more money

than god so that means that's going to be fucking

cool they got their imagineers they'll do it

just And think about that. You're strolling down

the goddamn street. There's fucking Buzz Lightyear.

And there's a First Order Stormtrooper ready

to gun his ass down. That's going to be so cool.

They're going to have a ride based on the Millennium

Falcon. It wouldn't surprise me if they take

all those new Star Wars arcades and build like

a fleet of X -Wings out of them or something.

Like, man. Oh, man, it's gonna be so good to

be a nerd the next few years. Like, holy shit.

I'm sad we didn't get a new trailer out of D23,

but, you know, whatever. I'll take it. I'm almost

betting they're gonna wait till about October.

Yeah, my guess is October, November. Or maybe

they'll tie it to a September premiere. Maybe

with Agents of S .H .I .E .L .D. With the whole

Disney Marvel tie -in. Yeah, that could be so

either way. It's gonna be pretty cool. Oh, I

also like the fact that at d23 they're like,

oh Pirates five which you know, nobody really

cared and then they're like, oh they're gonna

have Sparrow Barbosa and then they're you know

They introduced the new villain and then two

new young characters that nobody's gonna care

about and then they're like Oh and returning

for this one is Will Turner You might remember

me as the guy who's done nothing since the last

Pirates movie. That's pretty much what I was

gonna say. Like, really, what the hell has he

done? Nothing. It's like, no, The Hobbit. He

comes out of retirement for Hobbit movies, so

he will only ever be Will Turner and Legolas.

On his tombstone, that's all it will say. Legolas,

Will Turner. Will Legolas. It'll say Legolas.

Captain of the Flying Dutchman. Exactly. That's

what it will. That's amusing. Thank you. Yeah,

I like Orlando Bloom, but he's forever typecast.

Whereas everybody else who came out of those

movies has somehow found a career. Although Elijah

Wood does smaller stuff, but he's really good

at that FX series Wilfrid. The other big news

that come out of d23 was obviously all the new

like kind of Pixar stuff Which I only have I

I like everything but one of them Yeah, why is

there a cars three Yeah, I I don't see the reason

for that. They made planes and planes was infinitely

better than cars, too Didn't the other planes

movie suck though the one that was like the fire

rescue one or whatever it actually i watched

it with my kid it's actually not that bad oh

it didn't suck okay based on that alone i will

check it out cars too i i i want to gouge my

eyes anytime i watch cars isn't blanchard a fan

of the cars franchise yes okay that doesn't surprise

me but he doesn't like ratatouille so yeah what

yet he doesn't like ratatouille yeah i like ratatouille

That it kind of goes with that that standard

either like Ratatouille and hate cars or you'd

like cars and hate Ratatouille so Yes, if you

want to be confined to car hell or if you want

to cook food that tastes good I can't remember

what movie it was. Hellmater. There was a movie

where someone said someone sold their soul to

the devil to get the grosses up on Home Alone.

I can't remember what that movie was, but I'm

pretty sure Owen Wilson made a pact with Satan.

It says, look, man, I'll give you Larry the Cable

Guy's soul if you promise to keep the Cars movies

going. You can have mine and his. So Owen Wilson

is a Satanist you heard it here first double

confirmed double confirmed I Just but hey we

get the Incredibles 2 which is about 10 years

too fucking late But you know what it'll be a

better Fantastic Four movie than anything we've

seen before Toy Story 4 fuck yeah Although I

would love to see Toy Story Like, make that,

like, a cartoon on TV. We've got the technology

now where it doesn't have to look like a Pixar

movie every goddamn week. Like, you could so

do, like, hell, you could even base a series

around Sarge and the army men. Do it well, Arry,

Arly, Emory's still alive. And whatnot. Because

I think most of the original toys are still alive,

although... Slinky dog passed away cuz that was

Jim Vardy. Yep, and then he was played by Sean's

dad from Boy Meets World. Is Don Rickle still

alive as the rest? Yes. Okay. Yes. So yep, those

guys those guys are still they were in all the

shorts They need to make a Toy Story's cartoon.

I mean cuz Disney XD is producing some really

good cartoons like Like, Star Wars Rebels is

awesome. They did Tron a couple years ago. Well,

I liked Tron. I just hated the animation because

they ended up using that again for the same animation

studio for Transformers Robots in Disguise, the

new one that's out. But yeah, Rebels is awesome.

I've only seen a couple episodes, but I like

what I've seen. I've seen the entire first season.

Lando comes in. i'm gonna have to buy that when

it comes out on like blu -ray and vader now you've

got my attention um but yeah like it's pretty

bitching like disney i'm glad they held this

event and i'm glad marvel showed off some legit

stuff for like civil war they showed i guess

more footage than ever's been seen before for

uh civil war we got to see them fight like bucky

uh we got to see them Hawkeye kick the fuck out

of Black Widow or vice versa. Ant -Man meets

Captain America and is totally blown away. Like,

it sounds awesome. They also talked about Doctor

Strange. So that's gonna be awesome. Like, I

don't know. You know what, if they do... I don't

know whether D23 is like an ongoing thing. Or

like, the D events or whatever. I might seriously

go, hell. I'm sad I didn't go this year because

I am an unabashed fan of a goofy movie. I love

those two movies. They had a Powerline concert.

And that was the fictional boy band or dude from

a goofy movie that came out back in like 95 with

like, I think his name was Tevin Campbell, did

the voice of Powerline and they brought him back

and he had like dancers and shit and he did the

Think it was eye to eye or stand. I can't remember

which which like song it was But still the fact

that they did that Disney because it's the movie's

20th anniversary. Yeah, so I guess it was 95

That's so awesome like Disney I think finally

has the right people in charge Like the people

who maybe were junior executives like 15 years

ago are now in positions of power Hell, I bet

you that's why Disney owns Marvel at Star Wars

Like hey, this stuff is awesome. Maybe we should

buy it. I think Lucas always had the intention

of Owning or of dumping off to Disney at some

point But I called both of those so yeah I think

always entrusted his vision to people who are

fans of movies like like legit like for example

I don't think this is untrue. Call me out if

I'm wrong. You look at Marvel, that's made by

people who love comics and movies. You look at

DC's movie schedule, that's like someone who

loves big business, who happens to work in movies.

But admittedly their TV division is held up by

people that are nerds, and that's why it does

so well. But I hate on DC a lot. So you know

what? I hope I'm wrong. I Hope you're wrong,

too Because you know what I want Batman V Superman

to be cool, but When Star Wars got handed off

to Disney, I wasn't happy with the fact that

they killed the expanded universe but now that

it's in the hands as you put it imagine ears

I Wonder what's gonna happen and if rebels is

any indication of future awesomeness You know

what? I think it's in pretty good hands. Yeah,

it's definitely something I'm looking forward

to seeing how it turns out. I'm not going to

be all pessimistic and hate on it and everything.

I want to see what they do and I hope that they're

very successful with it because honestly, unless

they can turn around... Star Trek Beyond from

the the mess of Into Darkness. I feel like Star

Wars is actually going to be the the I mean in

Regardless, it's going to be the series to watch.

Well, there was something about that since you

mentioned Star Trek Supposedly the people that

worked on renegades had approached CVS as hey

What do you think and they're like we like it

but right now we're not moving forward with any

television development for X reason They can't

legally talk about that. So I wonder what that

means. Well, I do know that there was rumors

that CBS was and a couple other things were wanting

to bring Trek back to the airwaves. And they

need to because we've discussed this on Future

Imperfect before, which you can find old episodes

at ThisWeekInGeek .net. Trek needs to come back.

the tv in a large way because we have no ongoing

space thing right now like we have no babalon

5 we have no battle star galactica we have i

think the show's called falling skies i think

there are some shows set in space but nothing

as prestigious as trek just trek is you think

of space that's that's what you think of um and

We have the technology to make them well. I mean,

I would argue making a TV show in the Abramsverse

might be easier, because that stuff looks like

it's not that hard. Like, I don't know, just

from a set design standpoint, it looks like it'd

be so much easier to make. Well, I mean, this

is going to be a double -edged thing here. I'm

going to be playing two different sides of this

coin. If you're if you're gonna go with the Abrams

verse and keep that that universe not only does

it kind of Just it kind of cuts it loose if on

the baggage of the original track But theoretically

they could reuse all of the sets from the enterprise

So, I mean well I'm saying like, you know the

for the newer movies I mean all they'd have to

do is just reuse it all they wouldn't have to

rebuild You know for a new You know a new TV

series or anything and to try and make it different

they could just keep it the other thing too that

I would kind of like to see and this is kind

of a Flipping with the Star Wars and Star Trek

Since Star Trek they seem so scared to bring

it back I mean unless I think honestly they would

have to bring it back in the prime universe of

Some to some degree Or just kind of have standalone

series of it like we've discussed before too

I think Renegades or some of these other, you

know fan funded Projects like that I think would

be actually beneficial to bring to to light and

kind of have even if they made like each seasons

a completely different show of Star Trek just

have it like an Anthology series kind of thing

and we've discussed that too before but If they're

not gonna go that route I would almost like to

see them kind of renovate. And I think with Beyond,

they may end up doing that. It's hard to say.

We'll bring that up again later. But stick with

the films for a little bit, just to kind of see

if they can figure out their what. Because I

don't think Paramount or CBS really knows what

they're doing at this point, because the current

powers that be. And the people that were around

that ran it before were around with Gene Roddenberry.

So there was some of that vision left behind.

And they kind of just kind of let it go because

it was like his legacy. I'd like to see Star

Wars hit television and stop doing so many of

the separated anthologies. Someone had mentioned

there's a possibility that live action Star Wars

coming to Netflix. And I thought I saw that.

And I would honestly rather see them do that.

rather than all these anthology series. I wanna

see both, but I wanna know who's gonna fund the

Netflix series. Because that's gonna be expensive.

The difference between Star Wars and Star Trek,

Star Wars, you can use... I think from, once

again, from a set design standpoint, I think

it's easier to make that stuff. With Star Wars,

it can be harder, I think. Plus I don't know

like you see so much more aliens that that that

just don't have funny foreheads or weird noses

You have like talking dolphins and shit in Star

Wars. Yeah, it's true Star Trek was more cost

-effective with their aliens then In a big part

of Star Wars is space battles So there's I can

just imagine the money that be spent even do

small -scale stuff And sure, CG looks cool, but

you've got to make it look good. Now, it's not

to say I couldn't do a Star Wars series like,

say, Row 1, except maybe set it in... Like, this

would be my... If I could have a Star Wars miniseries.

There was a game that came out on the Xbox PC

and a few other platforms called Star Wars Republic

Commando. You can have Republic Commando, Band

of Brothers, put that in Star Trek, or sorry,

in Star Wars rather. Make it a six episode mini

series with a lot of money behind it. Take my

money now. Because that, if you could bring a

true war epic to Star Wars, that would be amazing.

Yet still have the fantastic Jedi, Sith, lightsabers,

TIE fighters, whatever. With the Star Wars TV

series, you can tell so many different stories.

You could have, like, the Breaking Bad of Star

Wars. You could have, like, talk about spice

smuggling, because Han Solo, in A New Hope, openly

says, I had to dump that cargo. I was going to

get boarded. So Han Solo was a drug smuggler.

When you break it down, like, or, like, what

if that killed people for money? Star Wars is

brutal. There's so many cool stories that can

be told out of that. fucker make this happen

because it's always been rumored for years i

remember 15 years ago back when wizard magazine

was still printing they were talking about having

a star wars tv show and it was going to come

to like abc or something and it's always they've

always been him in a hall or they can't get the

story right or this that and the other thing

with with the new movies coming out and the anthology

movies Now is the time to strike when that iron

is red -hot again. Like, I want to say people

have already seen episode seven now through,

like, early test screenings or, like, you know,

stuff to judge that focus group kind of shit.

And I think the response has been, like, oh,

my God. So if you can ignite the public's interest,

like the original trilogy, into a limited extent,

the prequel children because i think we're going

to say that people pretty hyped up and episode

seven should be bigger than anything because

it's new star wars because like we talked about

last week with michael we already kind of knew

what was going to happen during the clone wars

now we don't know what happens post death star

since they're like ah eu's dead so man just think

about that can't tell my Star Wars fanboy colors

are showing. Yeah, I'm more of a Star Trek fanboy

than Star Wars, so it's, I don't get me wrong,

I love Star Wars and I enjoy it, but Trek is

still where it's at for me. Although, you know

what, it would also depend on what network carried

the show to. I think with Netflix you'd have

more flexibility in terms of what you want to

do. See, Star Trek could easily survive on network

TV, depending. because We saw how successful

shows that balance our galactica work Well, the

thing is is trek would have to in order to update

it enough for television In today's age. I think

it would have to get edgier. I think they'd have

to actually have to Have used the same language

in the same Vibe as the films In order to stay

relevant on television not to say that they couldn't

still have some of the science -y stuff in the

background Kind of going on and some of it in

some of the dialogue, but I think that And we've

kind of discussed that on future imperfect I

think society as a whole doesn't really They're

looking for more of the relationships with the

characters rather than the actual whether it

makes sense or not which is kind of sad because

we're living in such an age of discovery right

now and there's this new movie out coming called

the martian and nasa screened that for a bunch

of critics like the first like like hour or something

which means like hey this is really accurate

you should check this shit out and i don't know

i've seen some of the science things that come

out of your country from your education system

i mean this is no disrespect to you directly

but jesus christ if you look on On Facebook,

for example, I see this share guaranteed three

or four times a year. Someone will always share,

like, share this on August whatever this year.

The moon and Mars will appear as the same size.

People believe that shit. You motherfuckers are

stupid. I'm not gonna lie, our country's full

of morons, but... Jesus, man! Like, how? Like,

that's basic science! And the thing to remember,

though, is it's not everyone. I know you're not

lumping everyone. What I'm trying to say is it's

the morons that praise the Kardashians and Bieber

as God. That makes me so sad. The fact that you

know the name Kim Kardashian over, let's say,

Carl Sagan or Neil Tyson. Well, I know who those

guys are. More so than I know who these two are.

The only reason I know who these two are is because

that's all the damn media covers. Like, we give

a shit how big Kim Kardashian's ass is and whether,

you know, Kanye is, you know, whatever. I don't

know. I don't follow any of their crap because

it's just garbage television. There was something...

It was from a Fox affiliate in Orlando. I think

it was last week or the week before last. They

did a story on Kim Kardashian getting a hamster

or something. I'm not making this up. Or some

new pet. And one of the anchors walked off set.

He's like, this is a non -story. I am not talking

about this. I will come back when you are done.

And the host who tried to play it off is funny,

but I think he was legit pissed. Seriously, it's

funny because they can base entire entertainment

programs around what people are wearing. It blows

my mind like I wear clothes to cover my fat ass

I don't care whether it is made by Gucci or Louis

Vuitton or whatever the fuck that's why do I

know these names because of people like them

and It bothers me yet. I love there was another

funny post I saw on Facebook and it was someone

who took like a screenshot of a YouTube comment

and It says that's the problem with scientists.

They're always trying to prove shit Like, really?

Like, did Inception, did shit just happen? What?

Like, what the fuck, man? Or, like, there's just,

it's so weird when I see the education system

failing people. Like, there's this great show

on HBO, I think. It's called Last Week Tonight

with John Oliver. Man, if you thought John Stewart

was funny, this guy is just as good. Are you

talking about when he's talking about the education

so yeah Yeah, I I think I retweeted that a couple

months back when he he did something like that

He just did one on it was sex education in schools

My god is it funny and if even half of that is

true Wow Wow There are some seriously fucked

up policies But we could spend an hour bitching

about the government and education Yeah, we'll

go in a different direction. Yeah, let's steer

out of the politics Although one last political

thing I gotta talk about this a 15 year old kid

signed up as a presidential I saw that he's not

I would vote for him. He was pulling better than

Donald Trump for a bit The fact that it even

was on there? Well, here's the funny thing. They

don't double check against public records to

see if these people exist. So there's a cat in

Kentucky who's the mayor. It's McLibby McMuffin

or something. So I would vote on the McMuffin

Nuts candidate for 2016. I just would like to

have President McMuffin and Vice President Nuts.

I think we should just enter ourselves and...

My god, I would... fuck, that'd be so bad. Birdman

and Megatron rule the world. Because the other

guys are fucking stupid. That would be our campaign

slogan. Or, what's the worst that could happen?

What's the worst that could happen? First presidential

act, we're gonna banish the Kardashians to the

moon. And we'll send Bieber with them and everybody

else that believes in them We're gonna send him

to be the first man to explore comets and he's

gonna ride that shit to wherever it goes We're

gonna see how long it takes him to get to Mars

And you know what? We'll stream his audio until

he dies. So hopefully he'll give us one last

rendition of Baby Baby before his oxygen runs

out. It'll look like a goldfish on camera. Out

of water. I'm telling you man. Birdman Megatron.

What's the worst that could happen? And our campaign

bus. will be painted up like optimist prime and

our official i'm trying to think who do i want

to have our secretary of state can be will wheaton

our science advisors bill nye um carl weathers

can be the secretary of defense i'm trying to

fill my cabinet with like 80s movie stars hold

on oh what can i tell you schwarzenegger would

be the the secretary of technology Oh my god.

Er, no, he would be this... He would be a military

general. That would be awesome! I was like, this

is General Schwarzenegger, you take orders from

the Terminator? He would come up, I have my own

tank. I blow shit up for fun. Oh my god, I would

like to get the entire cast of Predator as my

presidential envoy to the Middle East. They're

like, okay, you either sort this shit out or

we're gonna have words. We'd have Hannibal Lector.

Surgeon General? Well, I was going to say as

the chief interrogator. Oh my god. No, we'll

get that fucking Dexter guy. Yeah. Okay, so there's

our question of the week. We'll have Walter White

as the FDA. Oh my god. So there's our question

of the week. Who do you want to see on our presidential

ticket? 2016 they can be fictional or non -fictional.

Oh And we're gonna change the the flag of America

to Let me see There's this great picture of a

guy riding a Raptor firing a rocket launcher

eating a cheeseburger. That's what I want to

be If somebody made fan art of that that would

be great, oh my god Steve somebody think I can't

A campaign boaster of us done up in that Obama

style where it says Hoper whatever and ours can

hate, why not? I don't know how people make those.

Those ones that are like red and blue. I love

them. I don't know how they make them. I want

that done. I just want to say why not? Because

fuck you. Because what's the worst that can happen?

We're either gonna have a war in the Middle East

and we're gonna launch the cardiac into the moon.

Come on Oh That's awesome, I guess moving on

so that we don't go down that morbid hole anymore

The aero bunker was revealed for season 4 Actually

doesn't look too bad It's got a it looks like

You've watched agents of shield, right? All right,

you know that that center room where they get

the round table And then we're Colson's rooms

off to the side. It kind of looks like that on

part of it There's a and then it looks like the

Batcave for the rest of it because there's like

a computer setup And then there's like all the

the cases for all the costumes It looks pretty

wicked I can't wait to see that actually in the

show But I just thought it was neat that it was

it was posted recently And then of course the

Wolverine everybody was like, oh we want old

man Logan and then as booth ninja mentioned prior

you know it'd be kind of hard for Marvel to do

that or uh uh ABC to do that being that they

don't own or not ABC what the hell am i talking

about Fox to do that being that they don't own

any of the rights to any of the Marvel characters

other than the X -Men type characters so they

couldn't really do it accurately and then Hugh

Jackman's dropping oh it'd be cool to have Silver

you know or uh Sabretooth I like to see him come

back. I thought Liev Schreiber didn't play a

bad Saber dude, actually. I think if they added

a little bit more hair to him, I think he would

have been better. Well, I'm glad he wasn't the

over -the -top Tyler Maine version. Well, he

looked the part of, like, the 90s cartoon version.

I like the fact that Liev Schreiber's was a little

more rooted in reality. Kind of like Wolverine.

Yeah, exactly. Kind of like Wolverine. So I'm

kind of hoping they do bring him back. I'm just

not sure. What they're gonna do so although speaking

of Hugh Jackman, I just randomly saw this like

a half hour ago There's a there's a video of

Hugh Jackman doing an impression I saw I didn't

see that one. Yeah, he he's like smoking and

then Jim Carrey does his hair up like Wolverine

and sticks like forks knives like a wine corkscrew

and like an ice cream scoop in his hand he's

like i'm coming for you brother or some shit

like that i'm glad those guys gonna have fun

like that i think that's hilarious i think it's

funny all these people are doing the dub smash

stuff uh you know like you get the like the agents

of shield and the agent carter people were doing

it for a while against each other and the agent

carter people brought in captain america to theirs

um and then Hugh Jackman did a dub smash doing

Katy Perry Whatever It was it was funny regardless

I tried to ignore the the lyrics but And then

the last kind of like newsy type stuff And it

kind of dropped before the episode before we

decided to do this new behind -the -scenes Star

Trek Beyond video which was Quickly ripped down

from the internet beef, but before that happened

all of these websites managed to steal screenshots

From it and it's clearly a green screened background

that they're gonna add something in later and

you get to see this new like all -white alien

and think of almost think of like If you've played

Mass Effect, it's almost like Lira's race Yes,

sorry The asari it almost looks like that but

white like completely white -faced and and we're

they've got Black lines across the face and then

instead of where the the hair kind of stops or

the tendrils in the back of the head It's actually

hair that goes down like a ponytail in the back.

So it just it looks really really strange for

this new alien that they created but they're

they get new Star Trek or Starfleet uniforms

and Their phasers actually look like closer like

the Star Trek 3 phasers and their uniforms look

like They're all blue and they've got like the

Almost like the latter Star Trek movies of like

the red jacket But if you mixed it with like

the first contact uniform So like they've got

their their their rank like on their shoulders

In that particular color, but the uniforms are

all blue and the backing kind of looks the kind

of the design of the red And then the front's

got it kind of almost the design of the the bluish

thing from the next generations movies It's kind

of a weird cross, but I like it. I Don't know

if it's an away team jacket type thing because

I see Scotty in another shot where he's in his

usual red uniform But I like the the gear regardless

It looks pretty badass, that's all I gotta say

I wish I could find the footage which I'm sure

will somehow turn up Despite paramount ripping

it down everywhere if it does I will have it

I'm actually looking for it now Even though I

shouldn't be Know like every site that had it

like nerd bastards had it and it says new behind

-the -scenes Star Trek Beyond video or pictures

of the video. Thanks Paramount So I'm expecting

to see it shortly somewhere it will be mine Before

we go to break and do comments Okay, so DC Comics

is working with uh with NBC to do a comedy about

people in the DC universe without powers. This

sounds retarded. This is like that Justice League

pilot from like 20 years ago they tried to do.

We're like this is just a lead but they're wacky

and dysfunctional. This sounds stupid. Oh my

god does this sound stupid. Yeah, I... If you're

gonna do comedy, pick a comedic character. Give

Howard the Duck a series, or... No, just do Charles

- do - do, uh, do, uh, Lieutenant Barclay. Yeah,

like - like, fuck, man. Don't do - Have him in

- him in Data talking about lifeforms. Ugh. Or,

like, you know, there's just - there's so many

other deserving ideas that deserve a half hour.

on tv or whatever i mean i realize geek is hot

right now and geek sells to advertisers and does

all that sort of shit just this is stupid but

then again hey i maybe it'll be awesome i agree

that it is very stupid uh it's a workplace comedy

called powerless uh at mbc which Guess along

the same lines of the office Which means there's

no way in hell that I'm gonna give her rats behind

about it This is the series is created by Ben

Queen who did a to Z which I'm not familiar with

It will be set in one of the worst insurance

and companies in the United States The show will

focus on the working life of normal humans in

the DC universe. Oh So they get to do the the

collateral damage of all the superheroes Screwing

everything up and breaking buildings. There was

a series in Marvel, I think it was called Damage

Inc. It was about people who cleaned up after

superhero battles. I don't think it lasted too,

too long. But this kind of sounds like that.

Basically, it sounds like nothing but a cameo

fest. But at the same time, if you can't use

Henry Cavill or Ben Affleck or, you know, big,

big superheroes. It even says While the list

of DC Comics characters appearing on the show

hasn't been worked out yet, rumors suggest that

it won't include top tier characters like Superman

or Batman, the real stars of the series. It says

the real stars of the series will be the powerless

workers who envy the superheroes that populate

their world. So basically, it's going to be as

dry as the office. It's going to be as stupid

as the office. And I know I'm offending people

saying that because I could get. I like the office.

I do. It depends on how clever it's written,

but the same size. It's going to be so stupid

like. Oh, hey, did you see Wonder Woman? Oh,

you just missed her. There's only so many times

you can do the Pokeroo joke before it gets old.

And that's what this series sounds like it's

going to be. Well, NBC, I don't like much of

what they have anyway, so it's not like I'm really

going to lose all that much by not watching them.

Yeah. So, but yeah, with that, we'll be back

after this quick break. Want to interact with

the show? You can contact us in the following

ways. You can call the voicemail line 502 -526

-5821. You can email us feedback at geekcastradio

.com. You can visit the episode post on geekcastradio

.com or altergeek .com. You can get a hold of

us on Twitter at altergeek. Look for us every

week on GeekCastRadio .com, of course, Stitcher

Smart Radio, iTunes, Blog Talk Radio, and AlteredGeek

.com. And now, back to the show. And we're back.

Once more. So, we had some comments from last

week. The first one is from Justin Washington.

He says one reboot I would like to see TV wise

or maybe reboot isn't the right word Continuation

series would be Deadwood because that never got

a proper ending that it deserved It is one of

the best HBO shows ever in my mind and a lot

of its actors are major stars today So I doubt

it's possible. I am really excited for the Westworld

TV series coming out on HBO that looks really

good, too I just found out what Westworld was

about, like, this past week. That's gonna be

fucking cool. It's basically Jurassic Park, but

with robots. I'm excited. And it's got a pretty

solid cast from what it looks like. Yeah, so,

man, I hope it goes over well. You got James

Marsden and, uh... Think yeah, no, maybe that's

a different. Yeah, James Marsden is gonna be

in it Anthony Hopkins Ed Harris And I love that

guy you do not see him in enough stuff anymore

who Ed Harris He is like one of my favorite like

actors of like the last like 20 years I loved

him in Apollo 13. I loved him in The Rock. I've

seen him in a couple other movies. Like, I love

his intensity. Love that guy. He's my man crush.

I like Anthony Hopkins and so. That's the one

I'm looking forward to seeing in there, so. Looks

like it's eight episodes so far. Yeah, I'll give

it a shot it's it's uh creators Jonathan Nolan

Which I Thought yeah, he's that's Christopher

Nolan's brother, I think maybe I Don't know I'm

not too familiar with the Nolans of shows. But

yeah, that looks like an interesting series and

if Comcast ever hooks me up with my upgraded

service, I should have HBO. Eric Hutchinson says,

I'm surprised Steve isn't interested in Rogue

One at all. I'm loving what Disney is doing with

Star Wars. They're making it mean something again

and have a full front assault on cool Star Wars

ideas. And not only that, they're getting great

people for their movies, directors and actors

alike. Rogue One is based on one line of dialogue,

but that also allows it to be tied to Star Wars

canon and not have it to be beholden to it. The

prequels weren't bad because we knew what was

going to happen going in. They were bad because

they were just poorly acted, badly written and

directed by George Lucas, so I'm not scared Rogue

One will be bad because we have come up with

our own idea of what that story should be. I'm

only not interested in Rogue One because I don't

really need the explanation. I feel like it,

to me, it would... Like the whole episode one,

I didn't see the reason behind. Like episode

two and three I did, even though two was pretty

bad still. Really the entire prequel trilogy

didn't need to be made. I think episode four

pretty much sums up everything you need. I'm

glad the prequel truly jigs this, but I think

it could have been done better. I'll end up watching

something once it hits video. I just I have to

be kind of selective on what I see in theaters

and being that I'm gonna want to see Trek in

theater next year. I'm gonna want to see Batman

vs Superman, Suicide Squad, Deadpool, Civil War.

There's so many movies I want to see next year.

Rogue One isn't really on my list. I'm hoping

it's good, I'm definitely gonna see it myself.

And I hope it's as more epic -y as I want it

to be. Once again, I'm not expecting Saving Private

Ryan, but with blasters. But it will be me. I

think that would be the only thing I could say

that... I don't know man, you may be surprised.

Yeah, I'm sure I will be. I just, I don't personally

see the need for it. Just like, I don't see the

need for a Han Solo flick or a Boba Fett movie,

so... I think the Han Solo flick, the problem

is that it's not Harrison Ford. And with the

Boba Fett movie, that will depend vastly on script.

Yeah. Because it could... For a guy that doesn't

talk... Well, he does talk, he's just very selective

of what he says, but then again, hey, you look

at a movie, let's say the good, bad, and the

ugly, and Clint Eastwood's character doesn't

talk a whole shit ton. True. It all depends on

how they want to pull it off. Hopefully like

I said, it'll be decent. I'm cautiously optimistic.

And then kind of jumping back to our comic -con

discussion Brad Lincoln says I completely agree

with you guys on comic -con Why do they make

it so closed off? I have no idea people have

been arguing that for years, but comic -con officials

have said they worry about it Going online will

make it less special But the real reason is they

are worried it will cause ticket sales to drop

But even if they do it's not like you won't make

up that money if you charge for streaming And

then piggybacking on that Jedi Disaster says,

I kind of get why they don't. Honestly, E3 is

much more media based than Comic -Con. It is

purposely designed for the fans over the media

outlets. E3 isn't even open to the general public,

so they have no worries of ticket sales falling.

Could Comic -Con make that money back with online

streaming? Maybe, but I don't think it's as easy

as people are making it out to be. You also have

to consider where Comic -Con makes their money

isn't even the ticket price, it's everything

else that comes with it. All the other money

people spend, if people can experience Hall H

without having to wait in line. Do they even

bother to show up to Comic -Con? Yes, but I doubt

you'll get the same crowds as you do today. My

personal thought on it is I still think the majority

of people that can afford to go will go. Because

if I could afford to go I would go regardless

like but I can't so I would like to see something

to that degree not saying like give away everything

but Maybe some of the some of the more, you know,

maybe you have to be selective on the events

you want Because I mean I think that that would

Also garnered, you know more attention towards

it especially from those that can't go and from

the fact that They won't have to worry about

finding all these pirated sources of all their

content later If people are watching it live

Yeah, I mean why not take the bull by the horns

and actually kind of You know show it off at

your discretion rather than everybody searching

torrent sites and and trying to Find this one

resource that happens to have it kind of like

the Deadpool trailer. Yeah Because I had that

like hours after they released that yes I watched

it in the middle of nowhere on like some random

YouTube channels. I couldn't wait till it got

released It's like the Star Trek Beyond clips.

I'm gonna find a clip of it and it's eventually

gonna be mine I'm gonna watch it and then I'm

gonna delete it Alrighty, so anything you want

to pimp up for this? Yes, hopefully now that

I'm back in production I have about ten days

worth of RPG a day videos to catch up on I am

recording a brand new bot stroll this weekend

I talked about it last week gonna be called and

I have all these books about lore and source

material that can add to your game I'm also gonna

be doing a spot on AM640 and the Coors Radio

Network in Canada talking about the X15 media

event I did. If you want to find out more about

that, look up Video Game Sophistry on Facebook

or on Google. You should be able to find it there.

That was me, Jamie Johnson, Andy Borkowski, and

a new guy named Cameron Allen. He's one of the

writers at VGS. This was his first event. Other

than that, I guess that's pretty much about it.

This month's topic show, like I said, it's going

to be Mystery Science Theater 3000. We're going

to be marathoning that for Twig. And then we're

going to do the Fallout games on Twig. So that'll

be a lot of fun. So that's what's coming up.

Oh, and I'm also working on reviews for Gears

of War Ultimate Edition. And hopefully, I'm praying

to God, I get my Metal Gear Metal Gear Solid,

the Phantom Pain or whatever it is, Metal Gear

5 either way in the next few days. Hopefully

I'll have a review out of that sooner as opposed

to later. As for myself, I should have my copies

of The Flash, Gotham, and Arrow. coming fairly

soon for review and then I'll have Those up on
