Altered Geek
Three Years of Geekdom: Jobs, Internet, and DC Trailers

About this Episode
You're tuned in to Steve Megatron on Altered
Geek Unlimited Hello and welcome to Altered Geek
episode 153 your anniversary show I'm your host
Steve Megatron Phillips and joining me this week
are The double likes nobody nobody's here. Yeah,
I just assumed plancher would go second Sorry,
not always technically. This is your all shows.
So technically I'm so Well, that's I don't I
appreciate that but I don't know that I can I
don't know that I can still qualify You're the
one that started the show with him three years
ago. Not me. So yeah, technically this is your
all show and I'm just here Okay. Yeah Mike shows
up for the free microphone and then... Wait,
I paid $66 for this thing. I'd be sarcastic.
Yeah, I know. Radio free Mike. That'd be a dead
air. Oh, yeah. Crickets, crickets. Dead air for
everyone all around. Yep, pretty much. Or clicking
and typing sounds. I've used mute for the last
three years So what's new guys um I'm finally
setting settling into my new job With Christy
digital actually how's how's that been going
uh well um I'm really enjoying it I can't The
best praise I can possibly give it is I can't
believe it's a job Because so far it doesn't
really feel like one The only bad thing the only
bad thing I sounded really that bad because I
can kind of deal with it is I was more or less
Throw it into the field and it's like you'll
learn as stuff happens or like as you need to
know things That's when you'll learn about them
So that's been a learning experience over the
last two weeks. So I apologize because the last
episode I was on I was like, yeah, I should be
able to be on on the next two Thursdays there
for you guys. So I have nothing going on. The
only problem is, is that I was way too paranoid
about work because of the way that it is, is
Ohio is a one man market. So I'm responsible
for the entire state. And so it's like, so the
job is never like, uh, done until like 10 PM.
So there's like special things where like, yeah,
it's like a seven to four, you know, it's kind
of, and you can kind of make up your own hours
because it's like, there's no special pay like
on the weekends. It's like, once you, once you
hit 40, obviously you get time and half and stuff
like that, but it's. There's no special like
every day is treated like the same so it's like
if there's something to do you just go and take
care of it and The only time I can think of is
like when I don't have to jump for my phone When
it goes off is like after like 10 p .m. Or later
so like the first two weeks it was kind of like
I'd go and drive to like Cleveland or Cincinnati
and And and do a couple things and then I'd come
home And like four and you know that I've got
six hours where it's like I'm kind of like on
the edge of my seat I can't really relax focus
on too much But now having having been in in
that boat for Well, actually I'm just tomorrow
will be the end of my third week with the company
so very cool I'm finally starting to get like
figure out like a process for everything because
like not every call that I get is something that
I have to like run out the door for so you kind
of get to You accept cases that need to be addressed
and you kind of fit them into like a schedule
And then there are other ones where it's like
you have to go and do something now So it's like
kind of like the best way I can think to explain
it is kind of like being a doctor where Sometimes
you have like you've got regular patients that
you see that make appointments and then you've
got Sometimes where it's like, okay, you've got
something you got to take care of like right
now Then everything has to be like rescheduled
around it so I'm just finally starting to get
the grasp on that which allows me to Relax a
little bit in the evenings and have some free
time It was is the first case I was actually
able to feel like I was doing anything on was
actually kind of funny because There the theater
I worked at for ten years. They had one type
of projector so I got really familiar with one
type of projector set up and You know one really
good on this one system and the first theater
I go to Completely different projectors that
I've never seen before So I'm immediately just
out of my element and there are people I can
call, you know So I don't I don't feel like left
like alone or anything, but I'm like, I have
no clue how any of this stuff works Some of the
underlying fundamentals are all the same But
I was kind of like, all right, a little over
my head here. But no one knows that unless you
say something, you know. So in front of the theater
staff, I was keeping my cool. But secretly, I'm
over in the corner on my cell phone crying. You
know, I wasn't I wasn't actually crying. But
yeah. But so the first call I was actually able
to go on and not feel like that was like I went
out to a theater and they had a You know, a lot
of theaters now, they use TVs to display their
show times. So I go out there and there's the
TV, see the show time. I got a call that one
of these TVs was like, wasn't showing its image
or the image was tinted pink. And I was like,
I was like, okay, well, I'm like kind of nervous,
you know, because like I'm, first of all. You
think I kind of thought this job was gonna be
like projectors only it's not it's whatever a
theater needs an extra set of hands for Wow Minus
janitorial and like actual like being ushers
and stuff like that, but So I go out I go out
to the site and I'm kind of like I have no I
was like You can't really be this simple They
the way that these theaters work, there's a central
hub and there's a like, let's say like they've
got a media player, like one DVD player hooked
up to it. OK, that DVD player comes out, it goes
into a box and then on the other end of that
box, it turns that video signal into an ethernet
or cat five or cat six cable. And then they'll
they'll run that wherever they need to in the
building because cat six is way cheaper to run
than like an HDMI cable for like hundreds of
feet. Yeah, and on the other end of that cat
5 cable or cat 6 you put a receiver Which then
takes that signal and turns it back into an HDMI
cable or DVI or VJ or what -have -you a video
a standard video cable and So I got you know
I got a ladder and I went up and I was looking
at the looking at the TV and I you know power
cycle the TV and just thinking Maybe it's something
that simple. It wasn't it was however as simple
as unplugging the receiver From power waiting
10 seconds and plug in the receiver back in Wow,
but That like that one simple little thing like
after all the other stuff that I had done like
that week like I was able to do that without
having to like call anybody and being like hey
Not too familiar with this stuff yet. What am
I doing? So I actually felt pretty good about
that and I was like the first that was the first
time where I was able to like Step off the paranoia
ledge So and then of course after I got so many
cases I was able to see how things work and that
not everything is like go go go So I've had some
had some crazy things like last night I had to
Take apart a Sony projector Which was fun interesting
it was They are without trying to get myself
in too much trouble here I will say they are
over engineered to a fault that's that's Sony
for you I mean they've been over engineering
stuff for 50 years they are innovators yeah so
let me ask you now that you're somewhat three
weeks settled into the new place and the new
job What is your favorite thing about being in
Ohio versus being in Michigan? If I'm being completely
honest with myself, just because everything in
my house runs on the internet, I'm just completely
flabbergasted by the internet that I get here.
Which was an ordeal in and of itself. What company
is out there? Time Warner is out here. and AT
&T and then a company called Wow, which is wide
open. It stands for wide open. Wireless? No,
wide open west. They are in Ohio. They are in
southern Michigan, apparently, which I did not
know. But I'm getting 300 megs for about seventy
five. Wow. And that's not on a special. and they're
supposed to be increasing that to 600. Steve,
let's go to Ohio. Yeah, really. Yeah, it's 300
down and 20 to 25 up. So it's more than adequate
for what I need here now. You think? I'm only
getting 25 now, so. And 75 is what I was paying
for living in Michigan, but I was only getting
like 100. So I'm paying the same price and getting
three times faster internet, which makes me happy.
However, I will say before I Over at the whole
beginning part of this podcast like getting the
internet set up in this happen in this townhouse
was a nightmare in my opinion, so Let me just
start at the beginning here. And if anyone's
tuned out already, I'm sorry, but I'll be good
So I I'm I'm really picky when I come out to
when I when I look at a place and Alan I kind
of jumped in this place I kind of had an idea
where I was going to put stuff like in the family
room where the TV was going to be and I wanted
to have the the router and the modem next to
the TV so I could hardwire all my stuff in that
needed to be hardwired you know so I wanted everything
on the main floor so I come I get out here on
move -in day and I had scheduled for the WoW
installer to come out and meet me much later
in the afternoon so that You know, I the truck
would be unloaded and I would be kind of just
putzing around when he came out to the house
so I could Address any situations that came up
while he was down here that didn't work out I
got here with the truck at the same time. They
showed up to install the internet. So it's like
90 degrees outside Myself and my dad are unloading
the truck and the installer is going through
the house There's two cable jacks on the main
floor in the family room there's a cable jack
in the first bedroom and there's a cable jack
in the second bedroom and The first bedroom is
gonna be the master bedroom, which I you know
didn't want the thing in there The second bedroom
was is where I am now recording it. So it was
gonna be like the den or whatever But like I
said, I wanted on the main floor the guy comes
up to me while I'm unloading the truck and says
Only one jack in the house is wired for Wow internet
Because apparently they use Wow uses a different
type of coaxial that uses runs at a different
frequency to deliver their speeds and the other
three Outlets were done by Time Warner and they
used the standard coaxial cable So the guy couldn't
he couldn't piggyback on the lines that time
Warner had put in So basically he was telling
me the only room in the house that could do it
was the second bedroom, which is upstairs nowhere
near my stuff. Oh Damn and so I was like, I'm
like, are you kidding me? There's like nothing
you can do and he's like no apparently like they
ran everything in through like the ceiling and
And it just so happened that like the management
for the townhouse was out here because my keys
originally didn't work. So they were out here
like when he was here and I asked them like if
they knew where that where the cables and everything
came in and the guy, the management literally
said. A lot of times they'll run a brand new
cable from the wow box around and into the basement
and then up to wherever the customer wants it
and they'll leave it on the ground and some people
will come by and bury it. Like later on after
the cables run for whatever reason I don't know
if it was because it was a Saturday and like
90 degrees outside But this cable installer was
not having any of that stuff. Yeah So like he's
like he's like, yeah, it's not your your cue
boxes He took me around Shelby where the connection
is and how it was actually set up and everything
He's like, yeah, I'd have to like leave a cable
like laying out around which like I said Townhouse
management said that's like a normal thing. But
he was like I'm not I'm not doing that and I
was like Find whatever just hook it up. I'll
call and Have them come out and run a cable,
you know and bury the cable So he hooked it up
in the upstairs bedrooms just so I had internet
house because I can use Wi -Fi, right? Yeah,
the problem is the whole thing was like completely
jacked up. So The Wi -Fi router that I use is
an airport extreme AC router, which is fantastic
In my opinion And I took it It was it was set
up in the main room here right next to the modem
And if I went downstairs into the family room,
I wasn't getting 300 Meg speeds. I was getting
like 20 Wow, and so I'm like this is Frickin
ridiculous. So I was trying I was going through
everything I could possibly think of in my head,
which of course Routers Wi -Fi routers. They
work in a dome. They don't they don't fire down.
They want to fire up and shower everything so
Got the suggestion from Joe Reed. I tried flipping
my router upside down so it would fire the Wi
-Fi signal through the floor. Oh sweet In that
That worked but it only got me like Like up to
a hundred Still that's funny Yeah, so I went
and bought these um These they're power line
adapters so they can take the power line in your
the power the power lines in your home and turn
them into an Ethernet connection Okay, so I I've
heard about them seen them I thought about using
them in my other house Before I moved down here
and I thought well, this is a perfect. This is
a perfect way to try this out So I went and bought
those Hooked it up. It worked the way that it
should but I was only getting so I had a hard
I had a quote -unquote Hardwired connection down
to the main floor now The issue is I was getting
like 70 or 80 between 70 and 100 megabytes over
that nowhere near the 300 that I was supposed
to get and So I was kind of like, okay, well,
I had already called and made the appointment
for them to come out and bury the cable, but
they said it was going to be any time within
the next two weeks. So I was like, all right,
I can sit here and I can wait for them. I can
deal with this while I wait for them to come
out and bury the cable and get myself hooked
up the right way. Well, that night I was listening,
I was watching, I think I was either playing
games with Joe or I was watching something on
Netflix and I could hear this. I thought it was
one of my cats breathing. but it was static coming
from my speakers. It was like this, it was intermittent.
You can only hear it when like it was a quiet
scene. That's why I thought it was like, I thought
it was like one of my cats breathing, but I,
you know, got down on my, got down and crawled
up to where my speakers were and I could hear
it like intermittently in the speakers. And I
was like, you've got to be kidding me. So I was
like. I thought maybe it was like just the power
in the house, like anything. Long story short,
I traced it back to being those ethernet connectors.
Oh, damn. It was it was only present any time
I was trying to stream something because that
signal is piggybacking on the existing wire,
the wire structure in the home. Oh. So I took
those out. I was like, I can't have that. No.
What I did is I was like, OK, you know what?
I don't want to do this, but I'm going to do
this anyways. I had a really long left. I had
a really long 100 foot ethernet cable left over
from when I wired my old home and I ran it out
of the out of the second bedroom. down the stairs,
along the wall, all the way around to where I
wanted my modem and router in the house. And
this was like Tuesday now. So I've been I got
here on a Saturday. It's Tuesday now. I kid you
not, I'd spent maybe eight hours at that time,
maybe 12 just fidgeting with this stuff because
it was driving me crazy. You know, first it's
like slow speed, the bad Wi -Fi, the sound of
my speakers. This stuff and so I ran that cable
downstairs and all of a sudden I had 300 megabytes
in every room of the house even on Wi -Fi because
the router was able to work the way it was supposed
to be I was able to hook the switch up to and
get you get the switch running to hardware all
my stuff in Meanwhile, the modem is still sitting
Up here like in the main room, but the internet
comes in and then runs from the modem downstairs
to the router and then the signal gets shot back
upstairs. Cool. So that was like the it just
drove me mad because like every step of the way
I was like, this shouldn't work like this. This
is ridiculous. And I kind of I kind of wrapped
it up and and made it look nice because I ran
it with a green cable that was like way too long.
Like 100 feet was way more than I needed. So
I went on Monoprice and I ordered two white 75
foot cables. Because my wife really wanted to
have her PlayStation hardware in. So and this
is her room. This is where she games. So she
was like, yeah, the modems in my room. I get
the game. You know, I get the best connection.
So what happens is it comes in. Signal comes
into the modem. One white 75 foot cable carries
it downstairs to the router. And then. there's
another 75 -foot cable plugged into that router
that runs right back up the stairs and into her
PlayStation. So all the game consoles are...
anything that can be hardwired in this house
is hardwired. Anything that runs on Wi -Fi is
running on Wi -Fi. Awesome! What about the area?
What about... you guys have been there for a
while now. What have you liked about being in
the area for Columbus? So we've kind of kept
to the, I guess it'd be like the northeast side
of Columbus. In terms of like where we live directly,
I think it's kind of a lateral shift from where
we came from because we, we came from like Burton
and we became, you know, Flint in the Burton
area. It wasn't, it was not a bad area where
we were because we were closer to Davison. But
it was kind of we kind of made a lateral move.
We didn't really go up or down like lifestyle
wise. Right. So like if we drive like 10 minutes
in any direction from here, like the the scenery
changes like drastically for the better. Sweet.
And there is like. Or within 10 minutes of three
different movie theaters. and then also 10 minutes
from two different Apple stores, like three different
Best Buy's. Didn't that kind of overkill? I mean,
technically, don't stores have the same damn
thing? You know, I gotta say, I'm amazed by what
is going on, like, because I drive all over the
state. Okay, I've been in the last two weeks.
I've been to Cleveland three times now I've been
to Cincinnati once and I'm going there two times
next week. I'm going I've been to Finley for
anyone that knows, you know high where Finley
is about two hours north kind of like Cleveland
is but I've been to Finley Twice and I'm going
tomorrow again Um, but I drive all over and the
one thing that doesn't seem to be a lack of is
like construction going on, like in Michigan,
like there's a lot of abandoned products and
like the roads are crap. Like I, I don't know,
like I heard, you know, from my friends, from
my Michigan fans, my friends that are Michigan
fans, I heard nothing but crap about Ohio. And
I think it really just comes down to like a sports
thing because yeah, the speed limits are a little
slower here, but. Like the traffic management
and the roads are way better than whatever and
whatever is going on in Michigan So I don't and
there is a lot of development like there are
there all these there are so many little pockets
of My forgive me like I don't know I don't know
your area too well, but Steve like the In Grand
Blank where they were trying to build really
built like Walmart In Graham. Yeah, I have all
those like little shops and was kind of like
really nice like imagine that but like Every
every shop you can think of being located in
there as well and like probably five times bigger
Wow, like there are tons of these little pockets
like all over the place and I see them and like
like I said, I'm ten minutes away from Two of
those is that kind of like going to like Great
Lakes crossing area like Auburn Hills Yeah, but
it's all outside and it's all like It's it's
designed in such a way that you can like walk
to each different place and it's so so like birch
run Yeah, but doesn't look like dilapidated like
birch run. Yeah There's like a dump like it's
it's so weird like seeing and like I said I don't
know like this this kind of thing I can't think
of a place for this but like work in michigan
because like uh I I just don't feel like michigan
either either michigan doesn't have the money
or doesn't have the population to support this
it also could be because Columbus is like a much
bigger city than Flint. But even Detroit doesn't
have anything like what this is. As far as I
know, from just driving around Detroit and where
I've gone, because you see little pockets of
development and where things are, but this is
like... This is like on a whole nother level,
like what they have out here. And there's so
many of them. Like Mike, I agree with you. It's
like, where are all these people coming from?
And I think it also translates to, it's got to
be like just the sheer size of Columbus being
like a major city because... along with all the
upscale stuff and the nicer surroundings, as
far as shopping goes, there is a whole lot of,
I do see, and it could be, I haven't quite figured
out what to attribute it to yet. It's either
the massive increase in population or just the
amount of time I spend on the road, but I really
can't go out without seeing at least four or
five car wrecks of varying severity. And the
other thing I would give them credit for here
is while there's a lot of construction going
on, they manage it really well. And there's always
a cop with the construction group. Yeah. Columbus
is more of a, it is a big city, but it's also,
it's a big city with a small town feel. And here
in Louisville, Kentucky, they try that, except
there's so much backwards. Crap here that it's
just not even funny it really like you know you're
saying about these these little pockets of you
know construction and stuff They've they've had
various things over the last 20 years of 28 some
odd years I've lived here that you know constructionist
popped up and something new has happened and
you know 20 years later They've let it go. They've
let it get dilapidated. They've let it get what
like we had This was this was at least Well,
no, last year it was 50 years. 50 years ago last
year, National Amusements, Showcase Cinemas,
whatever it was called, when it first started,
debuted on Barchetown Road here in Louisville,
Kentucky. I think it was 3408 Barchetown Road,
if I remember correctly. And that theater went
on for almost 40 years. I found it when I came
down here in 93, here in Louisville. In 2005,
they shut it down and eventually destroyed it
and now a Costco is going in there. And I'm like,
wow, that's just hard. The whole area of where
I used to live here in this town has just changed
so much in 20 years and not for the better. There's,
um, where a mine key used to be, there is now
a liquor barn and a wheat shop. And I'm like,
how is that like, But you're saying earlier that
you go all over the state and that you go down
to Cincinnati. I'm thinking, hey, if you drive
an hour and a half south, you can come see me.
Yeah. Oh, you forget. I I'm only I'm down there
to work. Plus, I get paid. No, no, no, no, no,
no. I know. I'm just saying that I'm just saying
that I'm not. Yeah, I don't. I'm not planning
any regular excursions down to Cincinnati unless
I'm getting paid for it. Yeah. So I get I get
I get paid to go down there and come back. So
it's like that's part of my my job. I've already
worked 40 hours this week, but I like more than
half of that was me just driving in a car. Oh
no, I completely understand. I'm just saying
the location. Yes. No, I know. I'm perfectly
aware of how close I am to Kentucky. I think
a lot of people are that live around here. Oh
boy. But yeah, everyone's been really nice. It's
funny going into the theaters and everyone's
like, because they know I'm new. Mm -hmm. They're
like, where are you from? I'm like Michigan and
every single one of them always has the same
response. You're like, oh I'm like, I'm not a
sports fan. I'm like, okay Steve what are you
been up to this this past week or so? Um Marketing
this podcast That's been part of it. The other
part is I redid the alter geek comm and then
I've been trying to migrate all of my domains
over to Google domains because it's getting too
hard to figure out what hosts I have all these
different domains at because I have some over
in one, you know, this area and some over on
this host and some over on this host and then
they all link back to the same web hosting account
I have but so I've been moving them all Slowly
to Google domains and the nice part about Google
domains is that they give you privacy for free
on the domains Which normally other web hosts
you have to pay like an extra like hold up three
to seven dollars up? Google is giving you those
domains now for free. I know they do domains.
They're giving you privacy for free. Yes. I Just
seems counterintuitive Well, it's they they mask
your information. They obviously know your information
because you're with them. But is it free to transfer
or do you? It's it's what it is is because of
the way the ICANN records work. OK, you you pay
for another year of the web hosting. OK, like
it's free to transfer, but you have to pay for
the next year of hosting. OK. or of the domain
name or whatever so like it's you know 12 bucks
to move it from wherever it is to Google which
is in some cases cheaper mm -hmm and they give
you the the privacy thing for the the domain
so nobody can see any information so like I said
I've been moving stuff and then and then re -upping
some of them that I don't want to lose or that
are due within the next month so Yeah, I've been
doing that and then jumping back into some audio
play, fan dub type voice roles that I used to
do back before the network and during the early
stages of it. It's funny because a couple of
audio plays I did on BehindTheVoiceActors .com
for their casting call set up that they set up
about three years ago. A couple of the transformer
ones that I... auditioned for I Couldn't figure
out where some of these people were contacting
me from And they were telling me oh, yeah, I
got this script and I'm like, oh, yeah nice blah
blah blah and then you know just kind of Humoring
to some extent because like I knew Who they were
vaguely, but I couldn't remember who they were
because I was seeing their real name on Facebook
and not their screen name And they would just
contact me and a lot of times like I just because
I may not always remember who it is I kind of
err on the side of caution and then I They're
like, oh so When can you get me the lines for
and I'm like, hold on. Who's this? and I'm like
and what what did I do and They're like, oh,
yeah, it's this thing from behind the voice actors.
I was trying to contact you on there. Well, and
then I looked and I wasn't contacted, but they
had decided to actually take the casting call
and actually like having written the script and
delivered the script to me to do the lines. And
then, of course, I was going to do it. And then
every week I've been so busy, I keep forgetting.
And then they're like, could I get those lines?
And I'm like, Yeah, I forgot sorry I've been
busy with stuff so And then the then the the
fun aspect was remembering how to do the voices
that I auditioned with oh jeez Because Everybody
knows I use my like Joker and Megatron voice
Beast Wars Megatron the most out of any of the
voices I use or like generation one scourge and
So this audio play has a Beast Wars Megatron
voice but a different name for the character
and then like another character but it's like
basically a Scourge's voice just deeper and I
got cast as those two as well as G1 Megatron
and I'm trying to do the G1 Megatron earlier
today and my throat has been so dry because the
temperature and then having to take Benadryl
because my allergies are flared up so I couldn't
do the voice very well It took me going back
to behind the voice actors comm to listening
to it and replicating my lines that I did To
remember how I did the voice And then I was able
to replicate them after that But it took me forever
to get the get the lines down and I recorded
them earlier, but it was just it was insane trying
to remember how to do that stuff, but um So yeah,
I had fun doing that and then I've been doing
a lot of the the altered gaming a couple of the
video shows on AlterGeek for the YouTube channel
and I've been having fun with doing the video
game stuff, kind of figuring out how the the
broadcasting features work. This particular program
like XSplit is the program I use. You can toggle
different screens on it by clicking a particular
button on this program so like I could setups
of my my intro video plays through the one button
or the Be right back offline, you know thing
displays on another and depending on how you
display you can have your your webcam play or
you can have the the video show up so I was doing
that with like Battlefield 4 and Battlefield
1 when I was playing the alpha and So every time
I do it I learned something new but at the same
time I have a couple of fails on the video while
I'm doing it So it's been an interesting experience
messing with that. Interesting learning curve,
huh? Yeah, interesting learning curve, and I'm
having fun kind of trying to do the YouTube thing.
I'm not doing it like, I mean, yeah, if I make
money off it, great, but if I don't, I don't.
I'm just doing it because it's fun and it's something
new to learn. And also I finished the follow
-up EDX org superhero class that uh, they took
groups of four of people that had done Characters
for previous classes and we basically took our
character and We had to create like a superhero
team Which was an interesting task to say the
least because you're working with people all
over the place and EDX is Forum software that
they use is very clunky. So we ended up switching
over to Facebook messages so that we could get
more instantaneous responses for whatever people
had time. Because it was too hard to follow up.
There was no notification of whether that forum
topic had been updated. It just had the time
that the original topic was created. So you had
to like toggle the drop down to see whatever
was underneath that that topic header, which
was kind of a pain So we did that and had to
create a new villain in a scenario and you had
people from all over the the world collaborating
together kind of thing so It was it was interesting
and obviously passed I get the certificate for
it and then go to get the certificate and they
go to tell me that They no longer do PDFs. They
do web certificates. What? And I was like, the
last three that I've taken, I got the PDF. And
they're like, yeah, we're phasing out the PDF
and going to web certificates. And I'm like,
so how am I supposed to download it? I said because
what if I don't just want it on because like
you can put it on your LinkedIn and you can put
them on like you print them out they're like
well you can do the the screenshot and save it
as an image or Do the print to PDF thing and
I'm like, yeah I know about those two but like
I shouldn't have to go through that to download
it Yeah, that's crazy so I was a little peeved
and I was going back and forth with their their
support about that, but I ended up doing both
methods, but it's not the same quality as if
it had been an original PDF. So I was a little
agitated about that. Other than that, I've been
having fun reading the feedback for the show.
Yep. Heck, I turned one of the feedback things
into a blog post from Epicurious where he asked...
Does being a geek now feel less special than
what it used to be? So that'll be part of my
from the desk of TF2 and Mike thing that I'm
gonna work up here in a little while I don't
know that being a geek ever felt like a good
thing Okay How did you say that he said some
of the effect of now - Well, because we had talked
about it last episode of a possible - Right,
we talked about it last episode, but what he
said was, in today's society, does it feel like
being a geek is less special than what it used
to be? Okay, what I meant was, I don't think
I ever felt special being a geek. Okay. That's
what I meant to say. Well, the reason why he
asked that is because everyone nowadays, you
can be a geek about anything, no matter who you
are. Well, I think that was the way it was back
then. In fact, there's a great video from the
guy that you don't really care for, MovieBob.
You brought it up. This is your fault. You brought
this up. Okay. Let me just state for the record.
I have no ill will towards movie Bob whatsoever.
I just don't like the guy's style. And if I don't
like his style, I'm not going to watch his videos.
And the last time I watched one of his videos
is when you pointed it out to me like four years
ago. Okay. We didn't need that explanation. I
just said you don't care for him. That's fine.
Anyways he had a great video and it was about
I'll see if I can dig it up somewhere but because
it was on Escapist but I don't think it's there
anymore anyways it was about how it was about
this exact topic how there's always been geeks
like if you're for example if you're a sports
fan and you're wearing a jersey and it has somebody
else's name on it you're cosplaying okay And
you're a geek of sports. Yeah, exactly. Geeking
out over sports statistics is the same thing
as geeking out over like the stats of like a
role playing character. Like it's all the same
thing. It's just. Different topic. Yeah, it's
so it's I don't think that the idea that I don't
really think the idea of geeking out about, you
know, I don't think the idea about everyone identifying
as a geek now is any different than it was. I
think it's just now people. kind of realize that
I think it's okay. I think it's kind of realized
that it's okay and I feel like it's always been
that way or at least I thought it has been because
like my dad geeks out about like woodworking
and metalwork and and and working out or working
out in his garage and you know I geek out about
you know video games and wearing my home for
home internet. you know, it's all varying degrees.
I don't think it ever really felt special. In
fact, I kind of thought that geek always was.
I mean, yeah, we've kind of taken it back, you
know, in the last, because, you know, the most
popular movies tend to be, quote unquote, geek
movies or geek driven movies now, you know, but.
I feel like so we kind of decided that we're
gonna kind of take it back and make it into something
that It wasn't but I always thought it the whole
like geek nerd dork I always felt like that kind
of stuff was just like derogatory like yeah,
it used to be yeah and and that's I think that's
part of his his question here is that he's saying
that Essentially and I could be wrong so he can
let me know in the comments. I'm sorry Whereas
30 years ago there were less geek voices. There
were still geek voices, but when we were kids,
there were less voices than there are now. I
just think that it's gotten more saturated now
because social media, everybody gets a voice.
Exactly. I wouldn't equate it that everybody's
a geek. I would almost equate it that it might
bother certain people because everything that
was... you know, like your superheroes, your
transformers and stuff like that. It was kind
of a niche thing back then that's become more
widespread is like the advancement of the pop
culture itself. I wonder how much that actually
I think if it's two things that you kind of put
together, but I don't think they kind of came
together the way I would have put them, which
is, you know, if you got back back then information
was. Drip fed to you through like a magazine
or going to comic book shop like you could yeah
you so it was really easy to kind of like identify
with someone like Like that guy in the comic
book shop with me, but now with it with with
not now I mean the internet's been around for
a long time But like with the rise of like Facebook
and and Twitter where you said everyone has a
voice all the last ten years Yeah, like the last
all of a sudden everyone You can like it's kind
of like uh the i don't know how i'm the base
example i'm trying to say here is the the wrong
way to say this is it's kind of like porn uh
there's something for everybody and so like if
you want to run a search just for like transformer
stuff and i'm not talking about like rule 34
or anything like that i'm just saying if you
want to run like if you Like if you're a Transformers
fan, you can sit at home and you can go to Transformers
sites and you can see someone that has a counter
opinion to you and you can just be a dick to
that person. And I think like, but you can interact
with people from behind a computer. It doesn't
have to. And I think because we spend so much
time. on a computer looking at that same stuff,
it's kind of like, that's all you see. I know
my Twitter feed is set up so that I really only
see moving and gaming news, because that's how
I want my stuff curated. So if that's all I see,
then I think, yeah, there's a lot of people out
there that, you know, whatever. But I just think
it has to do with how, because we're bombarded
with so much stuff, and there's so many options
for how you choose to curate the information
that you get. um I just think the internet's
made the world smaller and I think just like
there are more people willing to sit behind a
computer like a guy that you know might might
get online and and nerd out like on a on Transformers
uh forum or like a Ninja Turtles forum or something
like that or maybe they even listen to like uh
like you know like a video game podcast like
in their spare time maybe they don't tell their
friends about that maybe it's like still like
a closet thing you know what i'm saying like
because you can do it in the privacy of your
own home yeah um so it's i i still don't i don't
think i don't think like the jock that made fun
of you in high school is is gonna you know outwardly
like in person gonna call himself a geek you
know what i'm saying um for a nerd because that's
just not who he sees himself to be right but
in in the privacy of your own home on twitter
sure everyone's gonna be like yeah i'm a geek
i love those movies but i don't know it's i see
where i see where he's coming from i see where
steve's coming i see where you're coming from
like i just think that i don't know i never i
never really cared for that's the that that stuff
growing up it's like you you like what you like
what what does it matter You know, oh yeah, and
I and I agree with you I'm just you know, I was
just saying that that's if anything I think I
think nerd nerd culture geek cultures just become
more obnoxious It has Because I think you get
the people that are on the wrong maybe that's
what you mean by just it being less special because
you get the the gamer gate crap and Just people
being mean like I don't ever remember being mean
I guess I don't remember they're being mean geeks
I mean, I can honestly say, and I've watched
even some YouTubers say the same thing, like
going back and listening or watching your older
content and then seeing how much of a dick you
are compared to now. It bothers me to even see
it, but I'm not going to deny I did it. I just
call it like I've evolved by seeing all of it.
Because like and I think you're right there too
like people You get the lowest common denominator
that is the loudest voice Unfortunately, and
that's what everybody hears instead of having
the the people that are actually having a conversation
about the topic It's that old adage that you're
gonna hear more about the bad stuff than the
good stuff. Yeah. Yep So if it bleeds it leads
Okay, so Mike mentioned earlier about the transformer
stuff and I'm only bringing this up because it
falls into the context of what we've been talking
about Earlier this week as a joke I saw a news
story Revealing a transformers 5 character as
a joke my Comment post whatever you want to call
it on Facebook when sharing said article was
The Luke Skywalker Darth Vader thing no and that
more so not about the design that was more so
about my god Michael Bay now has his hands on
my favorite character and It just spewed this
whole long thing of everybody having a voice
on Facebook, which is fine. No problem with that
whatsoever You know and I one of my other friends
who's friends with another friend of mine We
used to actually podcast a lot together. We don't
so much anymore, but I Really don't wanna yeah,
it's not it's not him that I've found. It's the
friend of our the mutual friend of ours anyway
This mutual friend Where I I had said something
about I don't necessarily care for the designer
Why couldn't it have been it had a little bit
of a hint of what where hot rod came from and
then this guy's like The movies aren't g1 get
over it love and I'm like dude. Where are you
even getting that? I said one thing that wasn't
even a negative. I said the design is okay I
just wish it was different colors or something
like that and it ended up in this long back and
forth back and forth long story short We're now
no longer friends blah blah blah But it's just
one of those things where I get it the Bay verse
is never gonna be g1 Anything beyond g1 is never
gonna be g1 animated is never gonna get Another
season, you know, I understand that the Bay movies
I'm fine with them all as I'm asking for is just
one little thing To show where They came from
in those movies and they and you you you look
at the last cuz next year It'll be ten years
since that first Transformers film you look at
the last ten years of Bay verse Michael Bay slowly
has been listening to sort of in his own deluded
way listening to the fans on certain things So
I then made one other comment, and then I'll
leave this topic. I made one other comment. I'm
like, OK, so if the design is what the design
is, could they at least please either get Judd
Nelson or Dick Gaudier to voice the character?
Because that's who voiced him originally for
Hot Rod. And he's like, yeah, but this isn't
G1. Get over it. And this guy is acting like
I'm whining about the whole thing, and I'm not.
I'm just asking one simple question. I'm not
even complaining, I'm not even being negative
about it. I don't know, whatever. Doesn't really
matter. But it's just one of those things where
it's like, how can something where I'm asking
a simple question and not being negative go so
negatively wrong that we're no longer friends
at all anymore? It's just, oh God, felt like
I was back in high school all over again. As
for the rest of my week, I have been... Watching
through the first two seasons of Justice League
again since lawland records released their four
CD set of the The score for the first two seasons
of that animated classic God, I love that show
It's a good show yep, yep, and the music is amazing
Where to now Steve I Guess I'll bring up some
of the listener comments cool from the episode
last episode because last episode we kind of
went into Various comments and questions throughout
the history of altered geek and then There were
any I know I wasn't there but there weren't any
questions like pertaining to me were there but
I'm just asking But it's more like generic questions
Well, like there was Like we brought up arts
Justice League predictions since the cast is
now You know that kind of thing the cast is out
there the trailers out there. So we want that
trailer looks amazing I know right I know I I
was much more Enthusiastic about the Justice
League trailer than I ever was about Batman v
Superman. Have either of you seen the extended
cut yet? I'll bet maybe Superman. Yeah. No, what
did they change? This is not a knock against
the movie. I'm just prefacing this conversation.
I am only two -thirds of the way through the
movie, which means I'm two hours into it. I still
have an hour left. That's not because I couldn't
watch it. It's because I was too tired. I watched
it. I watched an hour, went to bed. The next
day I watched another hour, went to bed. I haven't
been able to get back to it. They they fleshed
out quite a in my opinion they fleshed out quite
a bit now remember I like the theatrical cut
All they did I think was make the theatrical
cut better the motivations behind like Superman
going after Batman and vice versa Are way more
apparent the subplot that Luther was like hatching
is Actually in the movie now like you can see
it long before it's actually kind of like Revealed
what he's doing. You can see like the his henchmen
moving in the backgrounds in certain situations
It just it flows a whole lot better than the
theatrical cut did there's more time to breathe
there's subtle differences in the Batman versus
Superman fight. It's I think it goes on for a
couple minutes longer Which, by the way, fantastic
editing for whoever decided to chop that movie
up because it still works when you put these
scenes back into it because it's interesting
to see what was removed and what was left in.
But I'm enjoying it. It's also the first movie
that I've seen in the new ultra high definition
HDR, which is the high dynamic range for color.
Okay, and it looks amazing I was watching it
in a darkened room and I probably shouldn't have
been because there's some stuff in there like
Eye -burning like bright coming off of the TV
like lightning like it looks like there's a couple
like instances with like lightning strikes and
it's like they A flash might have gone off might
as well have gone off in my face in a dark room
Like I could not see like the next several seconds
of the next scene because that was so bright
but it looks amazing and the color is definitely
there at least obviously with the HDR they probably
recolor time some stuff and it's a little bit
funnier the movie I think but I haven't seen
how it wraps up so I'm interested that's where
I'm kind of interested to see and the one scene
that I'm waiting to see and I have not been able
to find out I thought there was a deleted scene
maybe it's a deleted scene or something but There's
supposed to be a scene with Luther and a mother
box. And like I said, I'm two thirds of the way
through the movie and I haven't seen that scene
yet. So I don't know if it was deleted. They
had it on YouTube. See, I wonder if it was a
deleted scene or if it was never just perfect.
And I can't find it on the. I haven't watched
the deleted scenes on the disk. I think it's
a deleted scene. It's supposed to be where they
have Steppenwolf show up and use the mother box
and disappear. Man, that was going to be. I'm
going to go find that deleted scene because that's
one of the things I was looking forward to seeing
in the movie was the mother. I mean, outside
of the scene with in the video. Cyborg. Yeah.
But I was looking forward to seeing that as just
a more direct link to what's going on in that
video. But yeah, going back to the Justice League
trailer. Amazing. Like I've watched it like five
times. I've been watching it a bunch of times
and it's it's entertaining. It's light. You can
still see the the dark. you know within it but
it's still it's got enough wisecracks in there
and it's not you know you have the more normal
bruce wayne batman in a sense i'm i'm now i i
won't go all positive here and rainbows and sunsets
and butterflies i am a little miffed about the
flash costume but i am too um they also changed
the bat suit it's darker again it's all black
well that's fine i don't i mean that that doesn't
bother me like i i'm just like the i don't Don't
get him have the flash having an armored suit,
but I'll see how it plays out like I'm not gonna
write it off I'm just saying like that's the
only thing about the trailer that maybe coat
really Well, they're they're almost supposed
to be doing something in the kin kinship to injustice
to Well, no, not even in justice like how Tony
Stark goes to You know Peter Parker and helps
with his suit I get that we'll probably see two
different versions of it, but I'm just kind of
like I It looks like the screenshot that we saw
for the Power Rangers suits I was fine with it
for Power Rangers, but not for Flash. Yeah. Yeah,
but it looks pretty cool. I mean I'm really looking
forward to the movie and then the fact that you've
got Wonder Woman and Batman creating the Justice
League. And Wonder Woman looks great too. Yeah,
the Wonder Woman trailer was awesome. Yes, finally
a bright DC Universe movie finally a DC Universe
movie with actual color I think I got that out
of the I got that I was just like I didn't get
that from From Wonder Woman and they also said
that they said early on that it don't expect
it to be that bright of a movie It didn't look
that bright to me But it was it was more the
poster was definitely and it it was lighter tones
It it kind of reminded me of the first Captain
America movie. Yeah. Oh god. Don't say that Why?
What's wrong with First Avenger? Moving on. No,
come on. This is going to be... What's wrong
with First Avenger? Come on. It's not very good.
I can't stand the First Avenger or Thor because
those movies were... I don't want to start a
flame. I don't want to see comments that I'm
never going to read. I didn't care for either
one of those. Okay, the thing is, the first Avenger,
yeah, it's a solid, I guess I can say it's a
solid movie, but I find it almost unwatchable
and that's just me being a movie snob. Like,
it does not look good at all. There's so much
blue screen and green screen used in that movie
that it's just, it's laughable. And I feel like
obviously the that and Thor like they were both
they are both the first Avenger and Thor are
the two weakest movies in my opinion in the Marvel
lineup because they were like rushed through
production to get them done and introduce those
characters before Avengers hit the screen. agree
with you on that. And there's they didn't really
hit their stride till the second film. Yeah.
And so when they had time to breathe and those
characters were already like, OK, they're there.
Like, I mean, even the first Iron Man is more
watchable than the first than Captain America,
the first Avenger, because Iron Man had more
time put into it. The the other thing that kind
of and I also point out like there's one scene
in the end of that movie when they're in the
hangar chasing down the plane that just. It's
nails on a chalkboard to me because okay, so
There is a shot of Steve running through the
hangar a shot of Steve swinging on a rope And
then there is a shot of I think he's either are
I think he's in the car or still running to the
car Like there is no here's the shot of him jumping
to the rope swinging and dismounting into whatever
he's doing It's a shot of him running hard cut
swinging hard cut something and and I'm like
That doesn't work at all. What did I just see?
I understand that, yeah. It's more from a technical
thing than the movie itself. It's funny, I thought
it was well written for the first thing, and
I like the characters and everything that came
out of that. I understand why it was done, and
obviously done for as cheap as possible because
it's Marvel. And I will fight anyone that says
they don't do things for as cheap as possible
because they do. But they get results There's
no doubt. I'm not doubting that but they it's
Problem with the story that's that's why I know
but if not, it's the Captain America They told
the Captain America story. It's just the way
that the movie was shot and filmed and edited
in looks that makes me go Can't I can't watch
it? And then, of course, there's those two trailers.
I'm very pumped for the Justice League one and
the Wonder Woman. Then, of course, we get to
see our preview of the new Superman in Supergirl.
That first picture was wonky as get the hell
out. The suit looks interesting, but the guy
looks not... He doesn't look like Superman. Well,
it's not that he doesn't look like Superman.
My problem is he looks smaller than Oliver Queen
Green Arrow, because they had him side by side
with him in just a shot that somebody took. But
the guy is scrawny by comparison to... He's middle
of the ground between Grant Gustin and... Stephen
ML. Well, I think that's fine because Superman's
strength isn't necessarily like muscle bound
No, but I mean like he just looks awkwardly thin
instead of like a little bit built I haven't
seen that photo but the one photo that I did
see I was like it was the promotional still of
him next to Supergirl like this I'm pretty sure
it's the first one that most people saw yeah
and that he just looks all sorts of awkward in
that picture like other pictures I've seen like
from set photos and stuff like that. I'm like,
okay, that's Superman. The other thing looks
like a like a like a misprinted action figure.
Yeah, the promotional... And I saw a video of
it earlier of where he's fighting Matalo. Oh,
cool. Yeah, the promotional photo. She looks
fine. He looks like, you know... Photoshopped
all get out. Yeah, I mean, it looks like it looks
like somebody. OK, there was an article on on
Facebook. I don't know. earlier this week, or
might have been the end of last week, who knows,
two weeks ago, I don't know, about the dying
art of drawn movie posters versus Photoshop and
digital art and whatever else. And this image
reminds me of that, because it looks like somebody
took the time for her, and then they just scribbled
him in. That's what it looks like. the way he
is posed the way he is his his facial expression
just looks like he's so he doesn't know how to
do the cw face shot yeah the rest of them know
yeah have they have they um i've been out of
it for three weeks so forgive me have they addressed
how supergirl's gonna tie in with the rest of
the stuff they from what i gather they're gonna
have her cross over And it's gonna be a one by
one by one shot. She's gonna be in flash first
then arrow then in legends So flash is gonna
it's a four part episode between all four shows
So she's gonna the first half of her season is
gonna be in the original one And then the last
half is gonna be like a convergence I'm not quite
sure I'm thinking it's what I'm thinking is it's
gonna be midseason because They're saying that
flashpoint is going to be The first half of the
flash season three. Okay, and then there's gonna
be they're gonna reset back to the regular timeline
But what's gonna happen is there's gonna be repercussions.
So I'm thinking that in his jumping back to That's
what we talked about last time I was on Yeah,
it's gonna collapse back in on itself and then
all four shows me in the same universe is what
I'm thinking but I think the the big four crossover
isn't until December. So I think what Steve is
saying about the whole midseason. Yeah, it's
gonna be a midseason thing. Yeah, it's the midseason
finales for all for all shows. I'm just saying
what I'm saying is what we talked about the last
time I was on, which was my fan fiction where
they take the entire like every DC TV series.
You see the repercussions of Flashpoint. in every
in every series instead of just instead of aero
carrying on like like aero and and everything
else like all of a sudden maybe aero maybe aero
season 5 opens up and it's like light -hearted
Oliver Queen you know like like from smallville
Because because we're because now you're in the
Flashpoint universe, you know, so and then, of
course, one by one, slowly the pieces start coming
back together and then everything kind of rubber
bands back in on itself, which I for me, I said
it could have been like the season finale and
let the writers have like crazy fun for 22 episodes
on each series just to kind of cleanse everyone's
palate. But even doing like half a season, that
would be like f'd up for each show. That would
be kind of cool, too. I I actually saw something
it looked pretty funny, but it I could see this
if they ever decided to bring Batman albeit briefly
into the fold I Don't see it happening, but if
they did somebody had photoshopped a a shot of
Jensen Ackles as Batman Had him side by side
with the Superman, the Supergirl, Flash, Green
Arrow, and like the rest of the superheroes.
So it actually looked pretty funny, but I could
totally see him playing the part. Yeah. If it
was because it's all CW anyway. Yeah. So, OK.
You guys might know more about this than I do
or someone in the comments might know more about
this than all of us. But why is Superman allowed
on the small screen and not Batman? That's what
I want to know. But I like I said, I could. Wish
that they would honestly because I'm sick of
flake. I mean I get Gotham's not terrible. I
have enjoyed it, but I I'm not I'm probably not
gonna watch season 3 just because you can say
Gotham's terrible No one's gonna hate you. You
can still see who was actually good That's the
problem Season 1 was terrible season 1 but it
wasn't I could watch it towards the end of the
season season 2 was better season 3 I have no
hope for so It's kind of like watching arrow,
you know, yeah except arrows anchored by two
better shows. So Yeah I saw that Photoshop and
I thought it was funny and somebody actually
Photoshop Ackles next to like Ben Affleck, and
it almost looks like it could be a younger version
of that same Batman You know what the funny thing
is is he was originally Jason Teague on Smallville
So that having him as Batman on the CW if it
ever happens that would actually make sense Well,
he's already paid by the same network would you
have to say they couldn't yank him. Oh, absolutely
As far as no Batman on TV. It's something to
do as far as I can remember without looking anything
up from a few years ago, it's something to do
with the, I believe it's either the estate of
Bob Kane, or it's Warner Brothers, or it's DC,
or it's all of the above. It's DC, they just
don't want to have Batman on. Well, to a lesser
extent, it's also Warner Brothers, since that's
essentially DC's parent company, where they just
don't... Feel like Batman will like actually
having bat a Batman on television will work I
think what they're scared of is what happened,
you know back in the 60s and hey, it's gonna
be campy And of course, it's not we live in an
age where everything is dark now. It's not gonna
be campy It's not gonna be Adam West Batman,
you know, I think it is I think it's because
Batman's the only franchise that Warner Brothers
has in the DC lineup that makes them any money
I Think so That very much could be it. But yeah,
I mean, I'm stoked for the DC television stuff.
I'm so like, when are they gonna get like, these
shows are only, we've only got a month or so,
well about two months or so before they actually
debut. on October 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th. So
we got a Flash trailer, we got an Arrow trailer,
we got a Legends trailer. When are we getting
a Supergirl trailer, dammit? Come on, now. I
would imagine... I won't see one. Yeah. Actually,
you know what they're... Actually, I think they're
waiting... Isn't the CW airing every Supergirl
episode every Monday up to... The release? Yeah.
They're gonna do double episodes every Monday
night. I wonder if it's gonna come like right
before that starts or or after that or after
that's over or something like so not to uh I
don't know mud it in the water I guess or I don't
know. Yeah that could be cool. I'm still wondering
what the whole plan is gonna be for CW and streaming
stuff honestly with these superhero shows because
well What it is is that the after the seasons
ended then they're gonna put the full season
right at the end of the season finale They're
gonna put it all on Netflix. Okay, so they're
not gonna be on Hulu anymore. No, no That what
they're gonna do is right after the season finale
here. Yeah, I knew that next day. It's gonna
be on Netflix I knew I knew that is it know if
it was gonna be on Hulu the next day. No, they
signed an exclusivity deal just like Disney did
with Netflix. Yeah, the Hulu deal is essentially
dead at this point So but back to torrenting
them. Yep kind of sucks Yeah, I yeah, that's
how I have to get my TV shows. So yeah Because
I don't have DVR Actually, I might I might jump
at a TV package No, I mean I have local channels,
I just don't I'm never on Like I can't watch
the TV because usually I have stuff around the
house to do but here's the here's the crazy thing
I can get I can get the same speed internet I
have and my local channels in HD So really the
only channels that matter Because everything
else is streaming The local channels in HD with
a DVR for like a hundred bucks So I might do
that Anyways, whatever But yeah, I'm looking
forward to when they they do it I just I'm waiting
for the shows to come back now at this point.
Mm -hmm What are your guys thoughts? I don't
know if you've Watched or if you've heard anything
on suicide squad. Oh boy suicide squad I haven't
read I've seen some of the stuff going around.
I haven't read any of it. I I Won't read any
of it until after I see the movie what did you
plan on seeing this weekend? so I If you guys
want to talk about what you've seen and what
I that's fine I read one review and it was a
pretty negative review. I mean the guy pointed
out some interesting things obviously This is
not and this was never going to be the BTIS Harley
version gonna be the Over sexualized new 52 version
of her which is fine. Whatever. That's what they
want. You know, as we all know sex sells But
when you can't tell me the original Harley wasn't
sex selling to She was innuendo after innuendo.
She was innuendo, but she was never... She didn't
flaunt the part, she just talked about it. Yeah,
exactly. Animations can be subtle too. She was
sexualized from the get -go. They mentored to
be that way because they saw the actual actress
on a soap opera dressed like a clown and trying
to be sexy. Mean the movie in itself. I'm still
gonna see eventually I probably won't see it
in theaters, but I'll see it when it hits Netflix
or whatever But I don't know I think my overall
thoughts on it just on the movie in general from
what I've seen From the trailers and the clips
and all that is it looks a hell of a lot more
fun than BBS was But I never thought that could
be just the first 20 minutes of the movie the
rest of the movie could suck who knows I never
thought Batman vs Superman was gonna be fun.
I thought it was gonna be good I didn't think
it's gonna be like a fun rip -roaring ride though.
I don't know I just I don't I feel like there's
a I Feel like it doesn't matter what DC does
like I think I'm very hesitant to say conspiracy,
because I haven't seen the movie yet. So people
could be right. It could be bad. But I was also
one of the ones like Batman v Superman. So whatever.
I like DC's movies. And I like the Marvel stuff,
because they're two very different things. But
I feel like if it doesn't look and feel like
a Marvel movie, it's just going to get slammed.
And I don't feel like DC needs to do that. Plus
the one thing I've seen the one headline I've
seen was the studio getting involved with the
whole business I didn't I didn't dive into it.
It was like a YouTube video It was like it was
like someone like it was like some flame grabbing
headline which was like did studio meddling ruin
Suicide Squad Which it very well could have because
they made a lot of they did reshoots on it like
after Batman v Superman hit so I Mean, we'll
never know the full story But it looks fun. That's
all I want out of it. I just want it to be fun.
I don't care what whatever else it is. It just
looks like fun. Yep. So. Absolutely. Yeah, I
feel like the same thing happens anyway with
DC. I personally don't. I personally don't care
to see Suicide Squad. And it's more so because
I just don't care for the premise and the villains.
I expected, I knew I was gonna go in liking BBS,
regardless. I mean, yeah, there were some poorly
written areas, but overall I enjoyed the film.
But I didn't want it to look like a Marvel film.
And I feel like the Marvel films have like this
cookie cutter element to them now. At least the
ones that are gonna tie back into the Avengers
films. Yeah, because like Guardians didn't feel
like that and we have yet to see the second film
and Doctor Strange looks different too. So The
rest of them though, I kind of knew what I was
getting into and like I saw Civil War it was
good But it wasn't like this spectacular thing
that everybody was like clamoring over It basically
felt like I was watching the same movie as BVS.
It was just different color palette and And a
lot less emo -ness. Sorry, there's so much emo
in VHS. Yeah, but the extended cut, the reason
for that, what comes across as emo, I think,
in the theatrical cut is because of their brooding,
the way it's cut, it just looks like they're
brooding for brooding sake. And the extended
cut, in my opinion, it remedies that. That's
not the... They're not brooding just for brooding
sake in the direct in the extended cut There's
there's reasons like the the whole conspiracy
with like the desert and like there's scenes
where Bruce is not Bruce Clark is actually investigating
the Batman. Oh Okay, so time and make people
actually go see the movie and cut the parts of
the plot that make any damn sense out of the
movie, they took all the Clark investigating
stuff out. Yes. Well, they kind of insinuated
it anyway. They did, but not like, they, like,
Clark, like, it was, I think there's only like
one or two scenes in the theatrical cut, and
the only prominent one I can remember is the
one where Laurence Fishburne is like, nobody
cares about Clark, can't take it out of the bat.
That's like it. And then it's just like all of
a sudden, like everyone's just and Clark's already
like moody, but there's like there were way more
scene shot where like Clark goes to that den
that the bat the Batman was at. Yeah. In the
beginning, he goes to that crime scene and he
investigates the crime scene and he follows up
with a number of different. things like while
he's researching batman right the guy that goes
to prison uh the whole thing like those pictures
that were like given to him but the guy that
was executed in prison like that is a whole storyline
that was like deleted from the movie and it's
all back in there um like clark talks to the
widow like the the guy that was killed in jail
and that's like one of the things he's like I'm
I can stop this so I'm going to stop this he
doesn't know that you know bruises Batman until
he actually like confronts him but there's definitely
like footage in there of him being like I can
stop this so I'm going to stop it can you guys
believe it's been three years of the show the
podcast and we're still talking about this I
don't think it'd be an altered geek if we weren't
talking about it since you know since The show
was founded on that. Yeah. But I mean, I, I,
I, I, I understand why people didn't like it.
I understand not wanting to give it like a second
shake or whatever. And that's fine. I just don't
have time to argue with people that do that.
Don't like it. Like, I'll just like, you don't
like it. OK, that's fine. We don't have to talk
about it because I don't feel like arguing my
point either, because it's kind of like banging
your head against a brick wall. Yeah. This day
and age before I liked everything to do with
Ben Affleck and Batman and Bruce Wayne and everything
else I just felt the story was too disjointed.
That's all the the weakest part but also one
of like the coolest parts is The one that got
like the meme is the Martha stuff Because it
never occurred to me that both their parents
their moms Yeah, it didn't occur to me until
I saw that image on Facebook where the two of
them are facing off somebody captioned under
it Martha is the safe word and I'm like Martha
can't Martha. Oh, yeah Somebody wasn't being
too creative that day I just well it was two
different creators at two different times, right?
I understand that yeah, but I I never even realized
that I didn't even realize that when I was watching
the movie for the first time but like I don't
know if it's like I don't know if it's been half
like in that mech suit when the revelation hits
him or But that scene even in the extended cut
that scene still doesn't look right. Where did
you say that name? Especially, especially since
that fight goes on a lot longer in the extended
cut and is a little more brutal, like not bloodier,
but just a little more brutal. And so it's like,
and then you get to that part, you're like, hmm.
So let me ask you what the extended cut is, because
as everybody knows, the extended cut is rated
R. How much actual blood, guts, and gore is in
the Extended versus the Theatrical? I had to
watch the opening again in the desert. There's
way more stuff going on in the desert, especially
with people actually getting shot. And I think
there's not blood splatter, but red mist, like
blood mist from the bullets. Other than that,
I haven't seen too much of anything other than
like like certain things go on a little longer
than others Like I said, the Batman vs Superman
fight actually goes on a little bit longer. I
haven't gotten I've stopped right before Doomsday
gets let loose. That's where I've stopped So
I get to watch from there to the end of the movie
and there's still from that point in the Ascent
cut There's still like 45 -50 minutes left in
the movie Wow, so I still have yet to watch that
chunk of it. So I don't know if like things get
kind of messy in there But I really think it
just it just went I think things just went on
a little little bit longer and and scenes especially
like the I Think there might have been there's
actually a stab it like they show you the guy
dying in jail with the bat marker I mean it's
not it's not like anything that you probably
wouldn't see like on arrow except that it looked
it's not any different than when Roy got stabbed
on arrow except it's through a cinematic lens
that is the grit of Batman v Superman so it's
kind of like okay I guess that makes sense so
I don't know it's nothing that I mean they probably
could have put it in the theater as PG -13 I
just feel like there's no way they would have
put a three hour movie in there, which is kind
of a bummer because I feel like there was a great
article I saw that it was about like, why don't
Zack Snyder's director's cuts ever get released
in the theater? Because they tend to be a lot
better than his theatrical cuts. So I don't know.
But yeah, I don't know. If you liked it, give
the extended cut a look because they fill in
a whole lot of gaps. Good to know. So is there
anything you guys want to bring up before we
go for this massive three -year episode 150 No,
not really I don't think so I think we're about
there Yeah, I think I'm I'm set as well hold
off on some other stuff Yeah Well anyways, so
yeah, that about rounds it out then. We will
be taking a brief hiatus for the remainder of
the month just because I'm going on vacation
and I need a break. But I will be on game streaming
from now until the end of the month, just kind
of periodically. Might do more with the YouTube
channel, just kind of depends on what's going
on. But I'd like to point out before we leave,
and I'll have Steve put the link in the show
My Generation and I recorded with all of our
mutual friend, the king geek, Joe Reed. King
geek is what Danner called him on Facebook. We
recorded a thing of why, what makes us the geeks
we are. So that was a pretty cool hour or so.
conversation so if anyone wants to go check that
out you can but yeah i'm kind of i don't know
i'm kind of almost winding down early this year
for podcasts i'm cutting back on a lot of stuff
uh more about that in another time but uh but
yeah alter geek three years yay first okay outside
of alternate numbering first GCRN podcast to
ever reach the 150 episode mark Wouldn't wouldn't
actually three years be 156 Well there was that
time that Steve threw the numbering out so What
numbering the episode numbering on the posts?
Anyway, I don't know not no. This is actually
episode 150. Oh, okay It's been about 50 episodes
a year because I usually skip about two weeks
throughout the year, okay, okay? So and then
there's some weeks where I might skip an extra
week, but I might double up episodes that week
so So yeah, it breaks out right all right so
But yeah, so if there's any comments questions
suggestions or things you'd like to see us cover,
please leave feedback on the episode post and
Of course, I will hold on to it and save it for
when we return. Oh, sorry. If anyone has any
kind of, if there's any theater geeks or nerds
out there, movie theater geeks or nerds that
have any questions that I could vaguely answer,
I can potentially do that for you, vaguely answer
those questions. So I get myself in trouble.
So if you guys have any questions about various
different... systems and how they work and all
that stuff with movies and movie theaters. You
can ask those too. So yeah, do that too. So until
next time, get altered, get geeky with the Altered
Geeks.
No chapter markers for this episode.
