You are tuned in to Steve Megatron on Altered

Geek Unlimited Hello and welcome to Altered Geek

Unlimited I'm your host Steve Megatron Phillips,

and I don't have anyone joining me this week

I technically could have recorded an episode

with some of the others. Unfortunately TFG1Mike

is having, he was ill yesterday and I was trying

to test out the streaming service of YouTube

gaming and I'm gonna try Twitch next but I'm

kind of trying to compare the two. YouTube gaming

wasn't too bad but I... And I could have recorded

with Birdman Dodd, but I didn't feel like really

Doing too much last night Kind of a weird night.

So yeah, we didn't record the top 50 video game

franchise Countdown last night and that was more

so to do with the fact that I Think everyone

forgot that the recording was going on other

than myself Birdman and TFG one so unfortunately

There wasn't an episode recorded of that so we're

gonna have to do it next week. It's a little

I Don't know it's a little bit Off -putting but

it's it's fine. I kind of needed the break anyway

My hand was killing me yesterday It almost feels

like between the ring finger and the middle finger

on my right hand like it wants to split in two

And I was talking to some of my gaming buddies

because I have to, when I play video games, I

can't use the keyboard and mouse anymore because

the mouse, the keyboard doesn't impact me whatsoever.

The mouse is what fries my hand because of the

constant sliding my arm around with the repetitive

movement, the angle of my wrist, and then the

way my hand sits on the mouse because the mouse,

most of the mice that you get for a computer

are like narrow and have a wide hand so it's

kind of it's literally like two of my fingers

fit over the entire mouse and then the other

two fingers just kind of dangled to the side

so I'm dragging them across my desk so it's quite

painful I'm actually gonna have to go to the

doctor about it because it's it's so bad with

pain I have a wrist brace on for my wrist purposes

but also to kind of keep my hand scrunched together

because it hurts so much It feels like watching

one of the Saw movies and having somebody cut

my hand in half. That's probably about the only

way I can kind of tell the level of pain that

I have in my hand. So yeah, I'm gonna do kind

of a shortened AGNN this week. I'm gonna do like

a little bit of altered gaming and then kind

of a altered tech app segment. The onslaught

of big summer blockbusters makes May the perfect

time to celebrate some of pop culture's unstoppable,

unrelenting, and unbeatable characters and objects.

.com slash gcrn and enter the promo code TBV

to save three dollars on any new subscription

so Yeah, stay tuned after the break So this week

on altered gaming I played Battlefield 4 and

as I mentioned in the opening of the show I I

Was trying out YouTube live streaming and I because

I've been really curious about getting into the

live stream stuff Not you know not to get like

notoriety or popularity because I'm far from

the most entertaining personality on the internet

But I wanted to I Wanted to try it out because

I like fan interaction. I like conversing with

people Weird as it may be for me because I'm

I'm one of those people that I'm kind of Introspective

in a sense like and I'm kind of shy like when

I meet people in general like in real life But

on the internet I'm more outgoing because probably

I don't have to actually see the face of the

person So it doesn't throw me off all that much

But anyways like I was playing altered I was

I insured it as altered gaming the live stream

is actually on the altered geek Entertainment

YouTube channel, which I will link in the episode

the live stream and So yeah, I was doing that

and I Notice that there was quite a bit of lag

and I'm not sure if it's the settings I had because

I'm not like I said, I'm not experienced with

The live streaming or the settings or things

like that So I it's gonna be have gonna have

to be something I tweak it could even be the

program I was using X split broadcaster The free

version so I'm not sure if that has anything

to do with it I'm hoping not, but again, I don't

know enough about the program or how the livestream

functions to divvy up enough bandwidth because

I did at one point get booted from the game because

of a connection issue. But I also had lag on

the video, so I'm not sure exactly where that

falls. But I was playing Operation Metro on Battlefield

4. I may eventually try playing Diablo 3 on YouTube

Gaming, but I wanted to try Battlefield because

I play that almost every time I'm on the computer

or on my Xbox. So I had a lot of fun playing,

played Metro for a little bit. I was getting

stomped. I'm normally pretty good at it. I know

that's hard to explain in the video because I

was getting thrashed, but when I installed my

new video card, there was a definite increase

in speed. Then I noticed be in the game and it's

funny because when I was playing on the live

stream it was killing my Killing my speed in

the game and I was getting stopped and it was

real laggy and I The minute I shut it off because

my brother got online to play and I did it did

a stream for about 42 minutes and Tried to converse

and tried to show some of the stuff throughout

it. There was a couple different levels and I

switched actually games at one point of servers

and my brother jumped on and I jumped off the

live stream because I was having issues with

it anyway and I noticed an increase of speed

like almost immediately and it could be again

it could be my processor I have a solid -state

hard drive I have 12 gigs of RAM and I have a

2 gig GDDR5 video card I know this may go over

some people's heads but So it's it's been plenty

fast for me, so I'm wondering if it's something

with the settings of the broadcasting software

And the fact that it was importing directly to

YouTube at the same time so So yeah, I'm oh yeah,

it could be because it was broadcasting and live

and yeah, I don't know anyhow so I again I noticed

an increase in speed and I was able to play much

better and I played for another like two hours

after that but So I accomplished almost nothing

last night other than live streaming and playing

battlefield 4 But it's definitely been an interesting

experience jumping into that But uh moving on

to some other altered gaming The TMNT mutants

in Manhattan trailer dropped this week and The

it's like this Cell shaded kind of look to the

the turtles they look like a combo of the the

film and the 2012 so yeah, it's a joint thing

between Activision and Platinum Games People

that did Transformers Devastation for those that

don't know so I kind of got that just from just

looking at the image of it But yeah, it looks

pretty awesome because you get to You get Leonardo,

Donatello, Michelangelo, Raphael, and then you

take on Bebop, Rock City, Shredder, and a ton

of other bosses. But yeah, it's available for

PS4, PS3, Xbox One, 360, and a PC. You can pre

-order it. I will be picking this up for the

360. I'm actually quite surprised that games

are still coming for the 360, but I guess because

of what it is, kind of like the Transformers

Devastation, I was kind of surprised it came

out for a 360 and the PS3 as well. But I think

because this studio Has it coded for all of those

it? It works for me because I'm not upgrading.

I'm keeping with the 360 and the PC I'm not if

I need another console. I'm just gonna stick

with my PC and upgrade that instead and then

Add on the Stuff I need to make it run games,

but I think I'm pretty set Because I'll have

a second video card hooked up soon So yeah, there's

that. Microsoft could release two new Xbox models

in the next two years. There's reportedly prepping

a cheaper, slimmer model for release this year,

and a more powerful model for 2017, signaling

a new strategy of more frequent updates. I would

have to see what they do, because if it's cheap

enough, and there's a slim Xbox One, kind of

like the 360 came out with, It was to begin with

the Elite, and then it just became the black,

slim Xbox 360. If they'd went that route, I would

possibly pick it up at some point, but I'm not

sure. I guess I'll have to wait and see what

kind of information comes out, because they're

saying that they could announce the smaller version

at the E3. So I'm kind of wondering what the

hardware specs on it and what the cost would

be, because if it's relevant enough. It would

be enough to get me to switch from the 360 to

the PS or to the Xbox one I'm not a PlayStation

guy anymore. I used to play the PlayStation 2

back in the day but I I much prefer the Xbox

controller and Setup to the PlayStation 1 and

so I've not looked back, but that's just personal

preference so doom Getting into another story

has an elder scroll five Skyrim Easter egg in

it which is kind of interesting to me So they

said a fan played through the entire you know

through the enough of the game single player

to come across it That alludes to the fate of

the last dragonborn from game publisher Bethesda's

RPG Skyrim Yeah, so It uh it says being that

it's doom ID software would essentially consider

to you know To be hell the outcome of the dragonborn

is not a pretty one So yeah, it's it's saying

that it's a concealed area that allows Fans to

play through environments that give props to

the first version of the shooter, too So like

there's there's some Easter eggs of like doom

one like the original doom in there which It's

funny because they have the invisibility thing

and then the blue floor and the skull and the

walls look very much like it but you get the

Updated shotgun like and all the stuff is on

the screen. So it's actually pretty funny to

look at as far as the the Easter egg there So

yeah that runs it out for altered geek gaming.

So we'll be back after this Welcome to the Wicked

Radio Network. Look for us every week on GeekCastRadio

.com of course, Stitcher Smart Radio, iTunes,

Blog Talk Radio, and AlteredGeek .com. And now,

back to the show. You're listening to the Altered

Geek News Network. This week in the Altered Geek

News Network we have, well, quite a few things.

First the flash for those that haven't watched

you might want to skip this next 30 seconds They

revealed the man in the mask The identity it

is none other than Jay Garrick, which I figured

it was Jay Garrick, but it's also Henry Allen

Doppelganger Who hit on his mother's side was

maiden name was Garrick, so it's actually really

funny that Happened and then the helmet he claims

for himself even though it wasn't his originally

so That was pretty cool seeing that and getting

to see him play that role and then The way the

whole episode ended I was like what? the heck

and Definitely put a ringer on it they've done

another time travel thing where Barry went back

to the night his mother died and then things

Everything is gonna change. They're definitely

heading for flashpoint, but I wonder how much

it's gonna influence the other shows whether

it'll influence arrow or legends or Supergirl

plus there's that Collider type thing that zoom

was trying to use in the season finale and Technically

it would destroy the other universes or other

worlds and leave only earth one universe because

like The real Jay Garrick's from Earth 3. You

have Harrison Wells from Earth 2 with Zoom. And

then, so that also puts into question, where

is Kara Zor -El Supergirls Earth? Is she Earth

4? Originally I thought she was Earth 3, but

apparently not. So I guess we'll find that out

when everything comes back in the fall. So yeah,

obviously they're saying nothing will be the

same as far as the flash So we'll we'll see what

the status quo will be at some point So yeah

fans are getting another little soapbox. They're

trying to give Captain America a boyfriend campaign

on Twitter Just like the give Elsa a girlfriend

If it doesn't matter to the story like and the

characters never been that way like if it's a

new character And they're gonna make them fine

whatever, but if they're gonna like alter a character

like just to do it like this. This is a prime

example of what I was trying to say weeks ago

of what people are trying to do on the pity parade

there. So that's, I'm not going to get into detail

on that because we kind of touched that last,

you know, last week or the week before. But yeah,

that's a prime example of what I was talking

about. People trying to change things just because,

and there's no relevant reason. Never mind that

Captain America has like had female interests

like a lot but I have more of a problem with

this than I do like people complaining that Captain

America is saying he's Hydra in in the new comics.

I haven't read the new comic obviously like I'm

not gonna like jump on that bandwagon but I think

it could be an interesting twist anyway with

him being like always Hydra because he's still

got the moral compass going for him. So it really

doesn't matter because like Shield's got some

shady stuff going on too, and so does the US

government and everything else in comic universes.

So like if he's trying to guide Hydra to be this

pristine thing, what does it matter? Yeah, you

could have some radicals in any organization.

You can almost argue that Nick Fury is a radical

in Shield. So I mean... It's kind of all up for

interpretation, so we'll see how that goes. So

yeah, in film news, Netflix will soon be the

only place to find Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm,

and Pixar films. Which works for me because I

have Netflix and I'm not bashing Hulu or anything

else. Hulu is great for television and stuff,

for modern stuff that's going on right now. Netflix

you have to unfortunately wait forever But I

do like that Disney and Marvel and Lucas and

Pixar will all be on Netflix because I have a

Netflix subscription and It would give me the

opportunity to watch some of these without having

to actually own them so I Don't know I think

that will help drive a lot of people back to

Netflix Considering a lot of the stuff that they've

lost and with Disney's Marvel's Lucas and Pixar's

huge library I think that would be very helpful

on their their cause Side news, there's a New

fan made Ghostbusters trailer that our friend

of the show Octobotomus found somewhere and he

was telling Sony Paul Feig that you know this

fan made trailer blows theirs away, and it really

does It's the trailer. We should have gotten

that made things less Pokey in the trailer and

more coherent It gave us that 80s Ghostbusters

vibe with the way it was recut from the other

trailers so and honestly it made that much more

sense for the trailer so I Granted after that

second Ghostbusters trailer they'd sold me like

the first one I was kind of like I don't know

but I'm not like I'm not gonna hate on it because

it's got a female cast because that's just That's

just people being stupid and playing to the lowest

common denominator like I have no problem with

the female cast I just wanted to know that it

was gonna be good and now that I've seen the

other trailer I think it's gonna be good. So

a new Netflix trailer dropped this week with

Adam Sandler a lot of people are bashing Adam

Sandler for just because he's Adam Sandler. Let's

not forget that 90 % of comedies nowadays pretty

much suck. So anyways, Adam Sandler has a new

movie called The Do -Over with him and David

Spade. David Spade's supposed to be this kind

of loser guy that never really moved on and Adam

Sandler's character's supposed to be kind of

just this dickhead friend of his from high school.

So the gist of it is with the trailers, they

fake their death and take on the names of these

two guys that were murdered and have to fight

for their life and everything. Well, in a sense,

it's kind of like the Date Night movie with Tina

Fey and Steve Carell, where they take personalities

or names from other people that are wanted by

this organization. So it's not really a different

formula, but people are still bashing it because...

It's Adam Sandler. It actually looks pretty good

for once, unlike a few of his other movies he's

had recently, which has been total dog snot.

This one I don't think is going to be a waste

of time. I do wonder how bad it's going to be

as far as language and bathroom jokes, but we'll

find out, I guess. So as far as Mighty Morphin

Power Rangers, Lionsgate could make up to seven

Power Rangers movies. And there's also been...

Putties confirmed and the red suit in action

on a couple things and then of course they've

got a new TV show coming ninja steel so Plenty

to go on in the Power Rangers realm So maybe

that'll give the guys from from the command center

something to do on the show in the near future

Which I that was one of the shows I like listening

to as far as Power Rangers because like I'd like

it But I don't like enough to like Watch all

of it, so it gives me the opportunity to pick

and choose and figure out which seasons I would

like based on what's going on So So yeah moving

on to the Star Trek Beyond trailer. Oh my word

that was awesome the Star Trek Beyond trailer

Has more or so blown me away because it's given

It's gotten away from that kind of Fast and the

Furious Beastie Boys kind of look to it to Showing

what the character development is gonna be and

that As well as like the adventure of it all

that is the heart of Star Trek So I think Simon

Pegg is gonna is as far as writing credits It's

gonna knock this out of the park and I think

Justin Lin is kind of just what the doctor ordered

of getting like a little bit of like Don't know

he he strikes me as he's gonna get the job done

as far as like the action and what needs to happen

in the sense of how most Star Trek should be

I Almost feel like this is gonna be like the

the rebooted universes version of like first

contact in a sense And I'm not trying to say

that it's gonna be better than or worse than

I'm saying like this is like this rebooted universes

version of that I want to say whereas The last

movie, Into Darkness, was like our final frontier,

the William Shatner helmed one. So, or The Motion

Picture, whichever one you want to go for, even

though it was a base off of Rathacon. That aside,

the new Star Trek trailer looks really, really

cool. They've also come out with some colorful

new posters, which are reminiscent of like The

Motion Picture and some of the older, the original

series film posters. And then so it's paying

respect to Star Trek history with the 50 years

None of the notable notable thing in the Star

Trek universe is We reported a while back that

Paramount Was doing a lawsuit against one of

the fan films which mind you they weren't doing

it for the money They were in it for the fun

of it and trying to get the production done So

they had a Kickstarter and they had all this

stuff going well it looks like Paramount is dropping

their lawsuit against Axanar, the Star Trek fan

film. And J .J. Abrams revealed a pleasant surprise

to a crowd at Paramount's Star Trek event, debuting

the second trailer to the Justin Lin directed

Star Trek film. It says, the Star Trek producer

informed everyone that CBS and Paramount would

be dropping the lawsuit against Alec Peter who's

behind the upcoming Star Trek Axanar. Abrams

said this wasn't an appropriate way to deal with

the fans Abrams also let the crowd know that

it was actually beyond Justin Lin who convinced

Paramount and CBS to drop the suit which That

in itself gives me that much more respect for

Justin Lin, but also he's about the fans You

can kind of tell like I'm not a Fast and the

Furious fan whatsoever But I can't deny that

they're very popular fun popcorn movies so I

I have that much more respect for the guy after

that and the fact that they're saying, hey, look,

your fans are promoting your franchise by doing

this fan love created content. They're creating

their own characters, their own premise. They're

not stealing per se like anything. They're doing

it for the love of it. And I think that that

should be supported. by the company that, you

know, created it originally. So, CBS and Paramount

never gave much insight as to why they targeted

Axanar, and it seems out of character for them,

since they let many other fan -made projects

see the light of day. The assumption is that

most have come to is that because of the immense

amount of crowdfunding that was done, over 600

,000 companies got uncomfortable with a project

of that size not being within the CBS and Paramount

family. Which... Could very well be like and

I think that it's justified But at the same time

it's not justified being the way that they handled

it there could have been another way that they

took it and More tastefully you could say like

giving them their blessing but said hey look

as long as you don't turn a prophet on it It's

fine. You know if you're doing this just for

the love of it great because it's kind of very

fine line there, but That's kind of nice that

the precedent has been set that they're not going

to go after anybody and that it's not going to

take hold. So we should still see more Star Trek

fan films, which have been a lot better than

some of the crap we've gotten lately. So... Alrighty.

So... DC Comics launched their rebirth line.

I have to say... with the 80 page issue and the

$2 .99 price tag, that normally would have been

like a $7 .99 issue on the new 52. The new 52

was uncharacteristically bloated as far as the

pricing. They'd priced themselves so high up,

like, I don't make that much money, like me personally,

I have a hard time dropping money on a comic

book. I'd like, don't get me wrong, I would much

rather buy a comic book and hold it in my hand

and look at the beautiful art on it and read

it and then store it because I love the artwork

and I'd use it as like a poster if I could frame

it. But I don't like digital but that's because

I don't like having to look at a device and I

don't like the clunky software. I just like reading

the comic at my own pace and taking in all the

art. So they have this new 299 issue. I got the

DC Universe, you know, rebirth number one. I

will be picking up Flash and Batman when I get

around to it. But it says that in the issue they

kind of explain, and I don't really want to spoil

it, but this particular character from pre -New

52 during all of these infinite crisis and all

these different things going on. States that

because Barry changed something in the timeline

Nobody remembers what happened, but him because

he got sucked in and erased from it So he's trying

to reach out and find somebody who remembers

him Enough to because if he gets remembered and

there's a strong enough pull It'll yank him out

of the speed force so He reaches out to like

Batman and some other people It looks like Jay

Garrick at one point, like an old Jay Garrick,

and then he reaches out to Barry who ultimately

causes him to come out. But it's like a pre -New

52 character, so it's nice that they're kind

of resetting without resetting. They're more

or less admitting that they screwed up by going

New 52 and wiping out all of continuity. So what

they're saying with this this comic and their

very meta way of apologizing and explaining the

story out in this, they Say that you know because

of this secret entity behind the scenes Causing

something to happen during the time that flash

altered the timeline The last ten years of their

memory has been wiped so nobody remembers anything

over the last ten years There's big memory gaps.

There's stuff going on. It's It's kind of interesting

in a sense of how they tackled this, and I think

that it's going to turn out to be a very tasteful

rebirth and kind of return to that nice legacy

that they had going before they rebooted the

universe because you're going to see things come

back into the fold from the pre -New 52. But

it's also not discounting that the New 52 happened

because there's that... thing incident that happened

in the dark side war with Batman and the Mobius

chair asking about the Joker's origin and he's

like that can't be and then you get in this you

get Hal Jordan in him sitting down and you find

out that there's Three jokers, but they don't

say if they've all been around concurrently if

it's the same Joker if it's a different personality

if it's you know Nothing is explained as far

as that's concerned so That'll be interesting

because they've got the 1970s joker, then they've

got kind of the late 80s, 90s joker, and then

they've got the new 52 joker. So you've got three

jokers that are all on that continuity. So they

also give us a new look of the DC's rebirth new

joker. This was another, this was an article

I read. by artist Rafael Albuquerque. And it

says that the first look on his Instagram page,

it combines a little of Frank Miller's Dark Knight

returns, the white suit, purple shirt, white

tie combo, with a healthy dose of Jared Leto's

take in the upcoming Suicide Squad, skinnier

frame, slicked back, green hair. I'm not sure

how I feel about it. I'd have to see it in more

detail than what's right here, because this is

just a rough sketch. I don't... Particularly

like the inverted look and I don't like I think

I can get over the inverted look. It's the face

that bothers me Yeah, we'll see on that So yeah,

this is one of the more drastic redesigns on

the character Involved in the especially involved

in the DC rebirth so far This is the Joker's

gone through a few looks over the years with

the most recent being the face mask literally

wearing version it says that DC certainly has

high hopes for Suicide Squad being able to spin

the characters from it and the other films is

important to the studio starting with the room

of Harley Quinn so obviously they're trying to

tie in the comics as much as possible into the

films and kind of create that kind of synchronized

character development. So with that we'll be

right back after this. Hi, this is Pat Fraley,

purveyor of Doc Doog and Velen Voices, and you're

watching Altered Geek. And we're back with Altered

Tech. So there's a new website besides speedtest

.net. There's fast .com. It's a new tool to check

your internet speed and it's run independently

by Netflix. Which I found to be kind of interesting

because they wanted to create their own tool

that wasn't a part of the ISP's favorite little

search tool because they wanted to see how much

bandwidth people are actually getting especially

to their media service because Yeah, they just

it's very simple to use you click on it You try

it out. It's I've tried it it works if your Netflix

member or not you click on it You start it it

automatically starts testing Telling your megabytes

per second It's a really neat tool. It doesn't

really give you much else other than your download

speed. So it just shows you in plain text. And

then it says compare to speedtest .net. So you

can take it over to speedtest and try it over

there. I've tried it on both. I get the same

speeds pretty much. Like I might get a couple

megabytes more on speedtest. But the only thing

I don't like about fast .com is it doesn't tell

you the upload speed which I would like to know

Because I'm one of those weird people But yeah

So for those that don't want to be stuck with

Windows 10 and don't want to have to worry about

it. There's this there's this program called

never 10 and When I say that it's it's by grc

.com slash never 10 dot htm It is an easy utility.

It's like literally like 89 kilobytes in size

literally could fit like 100 or 200 of these

on a floppy So anyways it removes 6 .5 gigabytes

of Windows 10 files on your computer You have

the option to disable Windows 10 upgrade enable

the Windows 10 upgrade if you've disabled it

remove the Windows 10 files or install the updates

from this app if they're installed so I myself

I've had installed on all my work computers because

for what we use them for we can't have Windows

10 because it's not compatible with any of the

software any of the programming tools for cars

it's not it's not yeah it's it's just not friendly

with any of it And by the time General Motors

and some of these other companies get up to snuff,

the Windows 10 free upgrade will no longer be

available and then they'll make us all purchase

it. So that just shows you how backwards these

companies and the internet are. Considering I

have to have three browsers for anybody to get

to anything at our workplace because not one

website is programmed completely for any of these
