About this Episode

The hosts break down the trailer for Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon, discussing its visual tropes, its potential as a 'Star Wars' alternative, and the broader trend of splitting films into multiple parts. They also dive into toy history by examining the commercial failure of 1967's Doctor Dolittle—and its iconic 'Push-Me-Pull-You' character—compared to the success of Star Wars merchandising. The conversation concludes with a look at Ahsoka Funko Pops and reflections on how personal nostalgia influences how they curate their own collections today.

Jazz here, and I am so diggin' the Geekcast Radio

Network. Greetings, humans. This is Starscream,

and you're listening to Toycast. And if any of

you call me a parts former, one more time! Hello

and welcome to Toycast. This is episode 182.

We're on the road to 200 episodes. I'm of course

TF2 and Mike. Joining me once again is Mr. Dave

Draper. Hello, sir. How are you? Hello. Mildly

irritated. It has nothing to do with the issues

we've been having this morning. Yes, internet.

Internet. Yeah, let's not get into that. But

we are here to talk about stuff and things and

things and stuff. And we've got toys and we've

got trailers and we've got Hacks Snyder basically

making a movie about everything or a movie that

has every trope ever. OK, well now I know where

you stand on that whole debate. It's just a joke,

really. I don't care. Those people are crazy.

Anyone who stands for Man of Steel is a madman.

I don't really want to diss people's personal

beliefs, and I do think that Snyder's version

of Justice League is better than the Whedon one,

which isn't hard. I think he's good at what he

does. Man, Man of Steel is garbage. I cannot

believe people are mad that we're going to get

a reboot on that. The only thing with Man of

Steel that I actually liked was how they told

the origin story. The way it was told. I didn't

even like that. Okay, well, that was the only

thing I liked about Man of Steel. But looking

at his directorial filmography, he's just not

a director that I care to watch any of his movies.

What is the one? I mean, I could look it up,

but I'm notoriously lazy. What is the one with

the girls in the Insane Asylum, and they have

these amazing, like, very elaborate fantasies?

You know what I'm talking about? I think it came

out after Watchmen. After Watchmen... Well, after

Watchmen was Legends of the Guardians, The Owls

of Gahol? He did Legends of the Guardians? 3d,

come here animated fantasy adventure film Based

on the guardians of the it's not it's obviously

not that that's not okay That's not a 300 rise

of whatever Wonder Woman. He was not the director

on that. Thank God Justice League Aquaman Wonder

Woman 84 Okay, maybe it was before that but there

was there was one Did he direct it or is it something

directed it? Oh, wait, what was it a short maybe?

Wow, okay. It's not on here sucker punch. Yeah.

Oh sucker punch punch I would have never got

that in a billion years. Yeah, no that I mean

to me that's like his quintessential kind of

movie because it's hot girls It's like kind of

elaborate costumes. It's it's cool set pieces.

Yeah, and there's nothing to it Yeah, it's just

like okay. We're kind of jumping ahead, but it's

just coolness for coolness sake. Yeah which will

come back up, I believe, when we get to the trailer.

Yes. Well, the thing of it is, for me, I love

teasers and I love whatever the first or whatever

the final trailer is going to be. Whatever the,

oh my god, it's coming this Friday. Here's two

minutes of clips of what you could expect to

see. Teasers maybe 30 seconds 45 seconds like

that's fine. I'm more than fine with that anything

else Here's a clip from this scene Here's like

all of the what used to be TV spots because they

used to all have to advertise on television they

all now put on YouTube channels and they're like

Star Wars and I'm gonna be contradictory when

I'm saying this though because for a film, I

just want the teaser and the trailer and And

then I go in and if either one of those gets

me to want to watch it, I will watch the film.

However, when it comes to certain characters

in certain TV shows that I'm like, I have watched

every single Ahsoka clip the Star Wars YouTube

channel has put out along with watching the episodes

because I want to see Ahsoka in live action and

obviously we have her in live action now. But

but yeah, I don't know trailers their advertisements

They're supposed to get you in in the seats of

the theaters, which I don't care to go to theaters

at all anymore. So It is what it is I I still

like the theater experience and I used to the

thing about trailers that I used to love is that

it saved me the cost of like six movies Because

no really because they would like they would

they would tell you the whole like Zemeckis was

infamous for like putting the ending of the movie

in the trailers, right? Like the one with Harrison

Ford where he's a murderer. Spoiler alert, if

you didn't see the trailer yet, you know, because

it's a mystery about whether or not he killed

this girl and then in the trailer, they reveal

it. And then, uh, uh, Castaway, it shows him

getting home, you know, does he get off the island?

Well, in the trailer he does. But, uh, famously

there was a movie called Mr. Holland's Opus with

Richard Dreyfuss. Love that movie. Uh, I had

a friend who saw it and recommended it, and I

was like, yeah, I've already seen it. And he's

like, have you? It's like, yeah, I saw the trailer.

And then I told him the entire movie. Every twist

and turn, he goes deaf and can't hear anymore.

And he can't relate to his son and blah, blah,

blah. And at the end, his students all get together

and do the thing. And he's like, you did see

the movie. I'm like, yeah, I saw the trailer.

But the movie is amazing, though. I suppose.

I love that movie. Oh, my God, we are two years

away from that film's 30th anniversary. Oh, my

God, it came out in 95. Wow. This year is the

30th anniversary of Batman Mask of the Phantasm.

I think it's well, it's the 30th anniversary

of Jurassic Park. Yep. Which I actually saw.

We went to go see it in the theaters for the

30th, which was kind of like it was it was like

they put it in like a little side theater. Okay,

it was it was really underwhelming especially

because the last time I'd seen it We have a thing

in st. Louis and I think other other cities do

it. I'm not saying we're special but where the

they take out the soundtrack and They and the

local Symphony Orchestra plays the soundtrack

And it's it depending on the movie can be really

cool and I did we did that one for Jurassic Park.

So it's like This huge screen in like the big

concert hall with Jurassic Park and the Symphony

Orchestra playing it live or the rinky -dink

Like, I could have just stayed at home and watched

it on my TV. Yep. I mean, it was still, it was

so fun watching, you know, cause, cause Jason

went with me, my best friend went with me and

we had a good time watching it together, but

it was like, you know, eh, it was fun. But yeah,

it's the 30th for Jurassic Park and it's the

30th for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3. Yep.

The, the best one of the series. One of the best

movies ever made. Absolutely. No, no, no, I love

that movie. I really do. I love that movie. Also

good hmm, I gotta start dissing I guess a Funko

pops or something to get some little sparks going

on here No, no, no, you got a just no damn fucking

I don't know. I mean Jason looks like he's gonna

barf every time I say that so it's What? I really

I really enjoy Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3

It's fun like if you have a particular attachment

to the franchise, it's fun Absolutely, it is

and the thing of it is is it was it wasn't it

wasn't what I thought it was gonna be I knew

it was gonna be time travel But around that time

somewhere, and I'm sure I'm gonna get this wrong

I might as well look it up while I'm talking

about it at the time in the arcades and on the

Super Nintendo was TMNT for Turtles in Time and

with the game Yeah 1991 arcade. Yeah, so the

arcade game came out in 91. It was eventually

released on SNES and other Well, it was it was

only released. Yeah, I was only released on SNES

So but I remembered that and I remember all the

cool worlds they went to and they basically had

a Turtles f -zero world in the future where you

had to fight so when I got to see the the trailer

for Turtles 3 I was like, ooh The scepter they're

going back in time. That is so cool. And I absolutely

I dig that movie. It's just a Lot of people don't

dig that movie I've discovered that But it's

uh, it's fun It's it's better than people remember

it being or it's not as bad as people think it

is. It really isn't Well, I think Jason's thing

is the costumes are kind of are not as nice as

the first one Yeah, and he's a special effects

now. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. And the thing about

that is is I think they switched Yeah, they switch

from Henson. I believe yeah, I don't think it

was Henson anymore. I Think it was something

else But yeah, so we're here you had mentioned

to me about Rebel moon so It's starting to get

some buzz and it was interesting to me is that

the way that it's it's it's it's being buzzed

about is that it's the quote Star Wars killer

It's the mature version of Star Wars that will

you know finally once and for all put a stake

in the heart of Disney Star Wars the the shambling

corpse that Kathleen Kennedy has made of the

Star Wars franchise and I was like, okay, I'm

interested And it's by Zack Snyder. And then

I was like, OK. And. You know, and then there's

this whole backstory about it that like Snyder

had actually pitched in, I believe, in 2014,

I could be, you know, it's been a while since

that he pitched this idea for his idea for a

Star Wars movie. And to me, that was kind of

interesting because, you know, Star Wars fans

know that Lucas. The original idea wasn't to

do Star Wars, it was to do Flash Gordon. And

he couldn't get the rights to Flash Gordon. So

he created Star Wars. So it's like, as George

Lucas would say, it's like poetry. It rhymes.

Where, you know, he couldn't do the movie he

wanted, so he made his own movie. And Snyder

can't do the movie he wanted, so he made his

own movie. So it's like, I'm interested in it.

I apparently liked the trailer a lot more than

you did. But I do have issues with the narrative

that's being woven about it. Yeah, because I

don't think it's gonna I don't think it's gonna

just kill Star Wars I mean, no joke is it's already

dead. But secondly, I I don't think Snyder as

a director has the ability to do what made Star

Wars special and what makes Star Wars endure

So when I looked at this when I watched the trailer

my first thought was Was he's throwing he's throwing

the spaghetti all of the spaghetti at the wall

to see what sticks There's everything in this

trailer, just in this trailer. And it's two parts.

It's this movie trope now of part one this time,

part two this time. I don't mind sequels, I don't

mind threequels, I don't mind multi -movie...

15, 19, 20 -year cinematic unit. Fine, whatever.

But this part one, part two crap has got to stop.

Just call it a sequel. Just call it a straight

sequel. Don't say part one of the first movie

and part two of the first. No. Well, OK. I think

it depends on the movie and the story. Sometimes,

like with Dune, Dune is a big book, and they

didn't need to split it up. But it's like Lord

of the Rings. With Dune, you have the Lynch version

where they try to cram it all into one film.

So I think splitting it up into two films was

a good idea. Now, again, we haven't seen this

thing. We've only seen a trailer. So we have

no idea if there's story enough for two films.

I will also say having watched Snyder's Justice

League, I don't really want to sit there for

five hours. No. And that's one of the reasons

why I don't like him as a director, is he makes

movies. I will listen to a five -hour podcast,

because I can go anywhere with it on my phone,

my headphones, whatever. I'm perfectly fine doing

a five -hour podcast multiple times and coming

back to it. But a film, I do not want to film

more than two and a half to three hours. Anything

more than three hours is too much. And I think

even that's pushing it. I agree. But that's right

on the teetering edge of, oh crap, I miss movies

that are 90 minutes or 80 minutes or whatever.

I really miss that about films. People might

be wondering, how are you guys going to tie this

into toys? Because it always comes back to toys,

folks. Presumably, they will at least make Funko

Pops because they make Funko Pops out of everything.

I'd be shocked if it hits. Even if it doesn't

hit, there'll be somebody who has the license.

Yeah, because it's Zack Snyder and it's a big

science fiction blah blah blah said somebody

somewhere will have the license and frankly,

I Mean, you know, even though we're kind of joking

that it steals from everything there are very

Cool toy edit characters. There's there's one

she's not in the trailer, but she's in the poster.

She kind of looks like a hella from Ragnarok

like a Sith Lord robot hella That's a cool character.

I'd like to have a figure of that. In the trailer,

there's a giant spider lady, like from Doctor

Who. It's a cool design, you know? Like, there

are some cool designs in there that would make

for cool toys. Yeah. So I watched this, and I'm

like, OK, Rebel Moon. All right, let's go. And

I'm watching, and I'm watching. And I'm thinking

because it's not necessarily the way you framed

it to me, but the way that I thought of it in

my head and just hearing the title Rebel Moon.

My thinking is it's going to be like, wow, I

almost said Revenge of the Jedi. You'd be right

for a few months in 1982. I know, right? Return

of the Jedi, where it's like a space battle and

a battle on Endor and a space battle and a battle

on Endor. And it's kind of that, but it's not

that, because there are more battles on whatever

this rebel moon is kind of thing. And it's, I

don't know, it was just. They have Anthony Hopkins.

This is a sure sign of quality doing the narration

doing the gladrile thing. Yeah This is not mission

difficult. Mr. Hunt. This is mission impossible

difficult should be a walk in the park for you.

I Love Anthony Hopkins, but not even he can sit

like I don't even know if I'm gonna watch this

thing because I'm I'm not a fan of Snyder I'm

not a fan of Snyder either. I'm just I'm but

I'm curious like and that's These days, I'll

be honest, I mean, I hate to be Mr. Cool Guy,

too cool for school, but these days, if it's

even remotely interesting to me, that's half

the battle. Because half the stuff I see is basically

just kind of out of obligation. The other half

is red laser, blue laser. Sometimes. I get the

reference, yes. So yeah, anything else on Rebel

Moon? I mean, it seemed like we were setting

this up to be the main topic of the entire episode.

So I mean, like you said, it does seem like it

has a lot of different things. There's like a

very the music has a very Dune feel to it, which

is sort of Middle Eastern. There's there's a

little Warhammer. All the bad guys are kind of

dressed pretty openly like Nazis, which Warhammer

like Warhammer is not even subtle about it. Neither

is this where like other like Star Wars is kind

of like The outfits kind of resemble suggest,

you know starship troopers They suggest and these

guys are just like nah, it's just is just it's

just a space Nazi. Oh, yeah so, you know, I I

don't know why there are the one thing that kind

of lost me is Why there are fucking hippogriffs

in the science fiction movie? Like so we can

write it like Harry Potter I think that one was

a weird one to just jam in there and there are

two hippogriffs. There's there's There's the

black one that apparently like that the hero's

boyfriend rides and then if you if you pay attention

during the funeral The shots of a funeral of

presumably the Emperor. There's like a big white

one following following the the two humans Yeah,

so apparently hippogriffs are a big thing in

this world. It's just weird It's just a weirdly

random animal and I can't imagine aside from

seeing it in Harry Potter why you would you would

gravitate towards that one? Yeah, I Don't know.

I thought this is gonna be a bigger conversation.

Okay, let's let's talk about Push off. All right.

Let's let's go ahead and let the glass shatter

Don't touch all right toys. What toy are you

going to talk about sir? Apparently ironically

both in in universe and somewhat outside universe

the wily and elusive push me pull you from Fisher

price toys in 1967 and this one like I like things

with story. So this one has a bit of a province

first of all, it was It's a stuffed toy of an

animal given to me by my best friend And it's

it's from the 1967 blockbuster movie dr. Doolittle

which which came out before the Eddie Murphy

one and before the Robert Downey jr. One Dr.

Doolittle is a beloved children's classic and

they made this huge expensive like for the time

ridiculously expensive movie in 1967 and it was

gonna have this massive marketing push of Toys

and games and stuff because it was a beloved

children's classic The push me pull you is this

weird animal. It's it's I can't remember where

it's supposed to be from But it's got it's basically

like cat dog as a llama where they're like both

halves are the front half of the animal like

a llama right and it's very iconic to the Dr.

Drew little universe and What happened was the

movie bombed? No, it was a huge bomb the merchant

like they said something like three million units

of something and it none of it sold Wow, it was

a disaster. I mean it was like the Atari ET of

its day and It it became common think in the

world of Hollywood and Merchandising that movie

merchandising won't sell you can't sell stuff

from a movie, right? It just it will not sell

it won't end by the mid 70s I mean Mego was doing

pretty well TV like you look at all those people

Mego lines like my Planet of the Apes you go

Well, that was a movie. Yeah, but the toys are

from the TV show which was a very short -lived

show, but they had it. That's why there's the

two guys instead of just Charlton Heston. Although

they do have a generic astronaut figure. They

had like Star Trek. Now they had like Little

Rascals and Wizard of Oz, but by the 70s, those

were staples on TV. Kenner had the $6 million

man, which you're not seeing in a lot of movies.

And in 1977, 10 years later, This guy was going

around trying to merchandise this new movie coming

out from this young go -getter named George Lucas.

Nobody wanted it. As we talked last week, the

idea that MeeGo passed on Star Wars. Famously,

everybody passed on Star Wars because movies

don't sell. General Mills, the owner of the Kenner

Corporation, decided to just take a chance. We'll

crank out a few figures. We'll do something.

It's so so so to me that that weird little push

-me -pull -you thing is part of my Star Wars

collection Because it's like, you know It's it's

why we have the Kenner figures as opposed to

Mattel or Hasbro back when Kenner and Hasbro

different companies or me go like it's the reason

it's it's That's the history of it. So I I kind

of appreciate it for that. It's And I was a fan

of dr. Drew. It was okay. I like that I like

the books and in school we sang, you know if

I could talk to the animals like yeah This thing,

it... Well, it's very simple. It's like a little

stuff thing. It's got a wire frame for the legs.

It's almost like a bendy. Yeah, it's like a bendy

toy, but it's one of these things where if you

want to get in a fight with somebody or if you

want to play tug of war with somebody, this is

one of the toys that you would probably use because

it's called push me, pull you. But it reminds

me, you're right, it is two llamas, two heads,

two whatever. But I'm looking at this more and

more and more and my head is like stuck in the

Star Wars universe and I'm like, I wonder what

this would look like if it was two porgs attached

like this. Then it would look a lot more like

Cat -Dog. I mean, more like Ton -Tons. Ah, yes,

yes. Yeah, you're right. Absolutely. Oh man,

a conjoined Ton -Ton. What a Star Wars movie

that would be. Or a Disney Plus series. Don't

give me any ideas. They won't take them. That's

true. Doesn't matter. It's like if you tell us

anything, we can't take your ideas, blah, blah,

blah. And if we do, you can sue us and buy all

this. Well, that's yeah, that's old school. Yeah,

that's everybody. That's yeah. But yeah, so Dave

went stuffed. I went vinyl. And this is leading

up to our coverage of Ahsoka. Which will not

be on this podcast It will be on a different

podcast since it's specifically covering a television

show. It'll be over on studio 2009 But I have

All of the asoka funko pops that they've released

to date other than the new ones They just came

out with or I have almost all of them I don't

have one where it's just her and her blaster

But the one that i'm looking at is the amazon

exclusive hooded asoka And I didn't even notice,

and Funco does this a lot, and it's great. I

think it's cool. They have, in the back of the

box, they have a little insert with her. It's

like Sabine's art, kind of. It's like her symbol

or whatever. And it's, you know, Hooded Ahsoka,

because it's the Star Wars line. It has to be

Bobblehead, and it's her and her, her whites.

Wait, are those white or blue? They look white

to me, but I could be wrong. I don't know. I

had to send you a picture, but you didn't send

me one. Yes, I did. Did you? I didn't see it.

It's right there. It even did a whole collage.

Yeah. I don't know what that was. Yeah. OK, well,

you know, the image is very small. Oh, that was

after I sent you the thing. You can click on

the image to make it bigger, Dave. That's how

they get you. No, it's not. They're white. They're

white. They're clear. Yeah, I mean, they're clear,

but they're meant to be her white savers. And

I just, I love the hood. I love the cape that

she has. I just, I think it's super cool. I just,

I love her character so much. I was not, I think

we said this last week, I did not watch Clone

Wars, Rebels, any of it. Up until about two years

ago and I started watching Clone Wars and then

a bunch of stuff happened two years ago and I

had to move and Deal with life and all that and

in the last I would say well the last eight months

or so nine months or so I Popped out of Star

Wars, baby, because I went and watched all of

Clone Wars finished that up. I had stopped at

season 5 So I finished up through season 7 Started

rebels and I still had the same problem I had

initially with rebels other than not being able

to find where it's airing but I don't like Ezra

in season 1 after season 1 he gets better and

he improves but I thought Initially season 1

Ezra. I'm like, oh god. What a little bitch.

He's gonna be oh My god, but he gets better.

So he learns and he does things and it it works

out and I love all the I love Zeb I love Hera

and Like we're saying Ahsoka and she only shows

up intermittently but I just Her the way that

Funko is doing her her characters and her character

design is just so cool And it's just I like having

the character Did you watch a tales tales of

the Jedi? I watched everything what it whatever

is current. I've watched it So yes, I watched

all of rebels. I then went to bat I did Clone

Wars, Bad Batch, then Rebels, and then I went

into Tales of the Jedi, and I'm like, ooh, this

is interesting. So you are an Ahsoka fanboy?

Oh, yes, most definitely. I love that Rosario's

doing the live action, but I love Ashley's voice

for the animated version, Ashley Eckstein. She's

great. Yep, yep, yep. Most definitely an Ahsoka

fanboy. Like it's weird like because once again

much like Funko Pops. I don't hate Ahsoka Like

and I liked her well and like I guess I'm not

a fanboy, but I liked her well enough Yeah, and

I'm not like I mean I liked it when she showed

up in Mandalorian and I like that Rosario is

playing her I think she's doing a pretty good

job. Mm -hmm. So But I'm not like it's weird

cuz I'm not like super well, okay We'll we'll

talk about the show when we see four episodes.

Yeah I'm sure that fourth episode will completely

change every opinion I have about the show. It's

going to be the best episode ever. It could be.

You never know. Who knows? Well, we will find

out. But yeah, no, I just... What I like about

her character is where she starts. and she kind

of starts using the force a little bit and she

grows up and she does all this stuff and she's

a constant learner. Obviously she becomes Anakin's

Padawan and the end of the very, I think it's

the last or the second to last episode, I think

it's probably the last episode of Clone Wars

where she's on and it's not, I wish it was but

it's not. that final planet that they were on,

that snow covered... I thought it was Hoth at

first. It isn't, sadly. Isn't it the one where

they get the crystals from? Yeah, I think it

is, yeah. So she stands there, and then, you

know, she buries her sabers in the snow, and

then it ends on the cliffhanger of Anakin showing

up. I'm like, oh, God, how dare you end it that

way! That's it. She has a great character arc

and I can't wait to see where she goes from here

Especially when she has to train Sabine and and

all that so Yeah, so that's the there's an interesting

discussion to be had there that that I kind of

keen to have about well Because there's a lot

of complaining that Sabine, you know It's like

oh well Sabine has the force and everybody can

have the force and only Jedi can have the force

There's no fair blah blah blah. I'm like There's

a lot about Star Wars and fandom that irritate

me. I have very strong opinions about The Force.

You might say you're one with it. I wish I was.

No, but I'll sum it up like there's a great line

from the movie Ratatouille, which is a great

movie. At the very end they say, you know, something

like, not everybody can be a great cook, but

a great cook can come from anybody. And that's

one of the things I really hated about rise of

Skywalker when they made Ray a Palpatine Was

I liked the idea from last Jedi that she was

a nobody I liked that she was breaking the chain

of these two elite families, you know Yeah, it's

like no she's got to be somebody special because

she's special Like but but let her be, you know,

there's a great Michael Jordan has a great line

where they were talking about I think Penny Hardaway

Like do you think you'll be the next Michael

Jordan? And Jordan was like, well, let him be

the first Penny Hardaway. You know, be the first

one in your line, not just the next great Skywalker.

And of course, she's a Palpatine who takes the

name Skywalker, which is like double garbage.

Yeah, I don't like her character at all. What

character? Exactly. No, seriously, like she's

good at everything and she's perky. OK. She's

not perky enough. I meant personality. I know

what you meant. I twisted it. I went to the dark

side on that one. But no, I just I watched the

three and we're getting into all this other stuff

that aren't toys. But like I watched those three

movies. And they have some toys from Rise of

Skywalker. Yeah. They didn't make a lot of them

because I think they kind of knew. But like I

just didn't. 7, 8, and 9 were not as special

as 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6. I agree. Almost getting

back to the Rebel Moon stuff, there's a magic

in the first three films. Rebel Moon is supposed

to be a mature version of Star Wars. Star Wars

isn't supposed to be mature. Star Wars is supposed

to be available to kids and to everybody. It's

like a Pixar film. And there's a magic and a

mystery and a simplicity and a fairy tale aspect

to it. And the sequel trilogy was, this is the

cool thing from the original film, we'll use

it again. It was someone creating a thing out

of pieces without understanding the magic that

made it special. We need a Millennium Falcon

to shoot the TIE fighters. But there's Hans Provato.

There's the tension of the moment. There's things

that they didn't get. There's a magic to it.

In a larger sense, that's one of the things about

movies starting in the 90s and through today

is very rarely do they understand the magic of

it. They're trying for the cool stuff. That's

Snyder's thing. cool, this looks badass and boom

and pow. But there's no magic, there's no mystery,

there's no wonder. The reason the original films

will always last is because when you see it as

a kid, you have that wonder. When you see it

as an adult, you're plugged into that wonder.

Either you relive it or you remember what it

was like. I think a lot of the new stuff doesn't

have the wonder. Yeah, it's like a line from

and I could I don't know because I haven't it's

been years and years since I actually read the

book But one movie and this has nothing to do

with geekdom. This is just me One movie that

I always end up rewatching a lot because I just

enjoy the movie is 1998 version of Great Expectations

with Ethan Hawke Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert De

Niro and all that and at the the beginning or

the end of the movie Ethan Hawke's narration

says I'm not going to tell you the story of how

it happened. I'm going to tell you how I remember

it. And I think that is a line that really kind

of, I don't know, it kind of fits me with a lot

of stuff that I remember is half my memories

of stuff that have happened to me in the last

43 years of my life. Sometimes it may not be

the exact way it happened. It's going to be the

way that I remember it happening. Well, there's

the line in Return of the Jedi. You're going

to find that many of the clues, the truths we

cling to, depend greatly on your own point of

view. We all experience things our own way, and

we all see it our own way. We all tell the story

the way that we remember it. Usually we're the

heroes. Well, in some people's cases, they want

to be the villains, but that's... That's generally

pretty rare, I think. That's one of the problems

with villains in general is that... most people

don't go into it going I want to be mean to people

and blow stuff up but well I mean they want to

blow stuff up but there's always like a they

want to blow stuff up because this thing is bad

or that thing is bad and if I get rid of that

then I'll be I'll be a champion of the people

and everyone will love me and the world will

be better and I'll be sunshine and unicorn farts

like nobody really sets out to like be horrible

on purpose yeah absolutely no it just kind of

Most things in life good and bad. They just kind

of happen to you Yeah, I mean you can try to

forge your own destiny as a toy collector and

figure out like I Remember having all kinds of

toys as a kid everything not not everything everything

but like all kinds of stuff and I eventually

got out of it and grew out of it as I grew up

and by the time I hit 2005, that would be 25

years, 25, 26, 27 years old, right before I started,

right before Steve and I started GCRN. It was

like, oh, I want to recapture my childhood and

I want to do this and I want to do that. And

now with the Funko Pops, it's like, hey, I can

just have these characters and they can just

be there and I can enjoy. Like after we finished

recording this episode that you'll hear later

this week, folks, once I actually release it,

I'm probably going to take all of my Ahsoka pops

out of their boxes, find a good place to place

them all, and take a nice little picture in honor

of, at least as of this recording, the episode

releasing tonight, the fourth episode of season

one of Ahsoka, or series one, or however the

hell Disney's doing it. I don't know if it's

whatever, it is what it is. I've enjoyed it so

far. That's the only thing I'll say until we

actually get into our full -on discussion over

on Serial 2009, but what I've seen, I've enjoyed,

and I think the reason why I enjoy it is because

I blitzed through Rebels. I enjoyed Rebels for

most of the characters and most of the action

that happened in Rebels and the events that happened

in that show, but I fully believe that most of

the... at least the first three episodes of Ahsoka,

you need to have at least watched Rebels because

it has a lot of... I was gonna ask, because I

think that's the fatal flaw of the show. Yeah,

it's very niche. It is very tuned into continuity.

It's very tuned into... You don't necessarily...

If you want to understand why Chopper and Hera

are funny, you would have to watch the show to

figure out why the whole thing between Hera and

Chopper and and whatever else. And I think I

sent it to you. I don't know if I did. I'll have

to send it to you. Somebody. Well, I mean, like

I, I'm familiar. I didn't watch Rebels, but I'm

familiar enough with the idea of the characters

because I because I because I like Star Wars

and I do have a lot of the toys. And, you know,

I get that Chopper was the saucy R2D2. There's

stuff you pick up anyway. You pick up that they've

got that kind of relationship. It might be funnier

if you know it already and it's like watching

Han and Chewiebicker. That's exactly what it

is. Yeah. There's always an on -ramp. You always

got to enter that story at a certain point. Good

stories, people will figure it out. I got it.

I got that they got this cute relationship and

it was funny. It was cute. Well, the thing of

it is is there's a scene in one of the I forget

which episode it is where she's asking him to

plant a tracking device or whatever and He's

going No, it's not even a good. No, it's not

a callback. It's no it it's a scene in Ahsoka

I forget so yeah, it's a scene in Ahsoka where

Hera is asking him to plant a tracking device,

and he's going through all his stuff, and they're

arguing back and forth. Somebody on Instagram

translated it into what they think she is actually

saying to her. So I will send that to you. It's

hilarious because the words that they use to

translate, I'm like, in chopper sounds, I hear

those words. I heard those words before anyone

ever told me that there was a translate that

somebody tried to Translated into actual yeah,

it's funny. It's hilarious. It's awesome Anything

else you want to talk about anything else we

want to bring up I mean a lot of the stuff that

I kind of want to talk about is a little gated

For a soaker review. Okay, you know stuff about

like cannon and about the force and about like

The show so yeah, like I guess we gotta wait.

I gotta wait till 9 o 'clock tonight That that

blows this whole thing about waiting till 9 o

'clock like why they've been doing that Dumb

I think it's a thing of They want like prime

time for their streaming service, which is kind

of silly because it's a streaming service. Yeah

I also think it's I wish it was like 9 a .m.

or 3 a .m. or 12 a .m. or whatever whatever it

is like I wish it was that because I could then

say okay we have a full 10 o Tuesday because

I think that's what originally it was supposed

to be on Wednesdays the normal Wednesday Star

Wars stuff that they had been doing but then

they switched it to 9 p .m. Eastern or 10 p .m.

Eastern or whatever the hell time on Tuesday

so okay 9 Central 9 Central Okay, so it's 10

Eastern Yeah, so so yeah, I'll watch it at 6

a .m. Tomorrow or 6 a .m. On Wednesday when people

are hearing this in the future Oh Time Makes

my head hurt All right, folks. I think we're

Ahsoka Funko Pop and the Push Me Pull You llama

looking thing was what we talked about today

as well as Rebel Moon, the new Netflix two -part

film that's coming out December of this year

and then April of next year for part two. So

I think without looking at I'm pretty sure I

have this ingrained in my head. It's December

22nd and April 19th For when Netflix is gonna

release rebel moon parts 1 & 2 it didn't really

excite me Like set aside the whole Zack Snyder

thing, but like I was hoping for more space stuff

That's the one thing that that really cuz cuz

cuz it was sold as a Star Wars pitch and I was

expecting like dogfights Yeah, me too. And that

was the one thing that was really kind of missing.

Yeah, absolutely. Any final thoughts from you,

sir, this week? No, I think I'm good. All right.
